  1. Same here. I know that all of pro sports and "sports entertainment" wants to go the subscription route eventually. The thing that amazes me is that they have been able to convince so many people to put up with this. Otherwise rational people are eagerly jumping through hoops and even paying extra to "stream" programs that used to be part of their normal overpriced cable package. I refuse to do that. I grew up in the 60s. TV was free. Yes, there were only 3 channels, then 5 when we started to get UHF channels in my area. But I really do not think cable TV here in 2024 provides more value than TV in the 60s and 70s. I now have what seems like dozens of religious and shopping channels. Reality TV shows about "housewives" and other nonsense. "Sports" channels with programs that consist mainly of buffoons screaming at each other. And then there's Fox "News." My wife and I watch mainly The Filipino Channel, and NBA games, baseball and football when they are available on regular cable. But some evenings we just turn off the TV and read. I'm not going to download an app and sign up for something else with another freaking password and another freaking user name and another monthly fee, just to watch wrestling or movies or anything else. My local library provides far more entertainment value.
  2. I understand the "insult the home town" tradition. But maybe at my age I don't have the patience for some gimmicks. Some of them are not cute or clever any more. Insulting the host city, gimmicks that come very close to racist incitement, etc., those things are getting old. Yes, I remember Kaufman vs Lawler very well. Those were different times. To me, here in 2023, it just does not make sense for some guy to say on live TV, "Hey! I'm from here, and glad I left!" etc etc. When I heard what that idiot said I replied, "Ok, so you don't want me to watch your TV show," and I changed the channel. I love my city, and I'm not going to listen to some jerk on a pro wrestling show insult it. You can be entertaining without poking a finger in the eye of your hosts. If WWE really wants to be edgy, the next time they do a show in Saudi Arabia they should insult Islam and the Saudi royal family. I dare them. Or, the next time they go overseas to entertain at some US military base, how about insulting soldiers?
  3. I switched on RAW for a couple minutes last night and was surprised to see that it was in Cleveland. Nice! Then some idiot named Logan Paul began to insult the people of Cleveland. Is he from here? Apparently. I turned to another channel. The Miz did the same thing a while back on RAW. It's a head scratcher. Why would WWE personalities insult the host city on live television? I understand the whole gimmick thing, being a heel, stirring up controversy, but insulting the host city? Is that a good way to increase viewers? Why would local people watch RAW on TV when it comes to their city if the broadcast is going to raise a middle finger to their city? Why would they spend the money and time to go downtown and watch in person, only to have to sit there and listen to some idiot insult the city where they live? Didn't RAW go to Saudi Arabia not long ago? I'm guessing that the on-air personalities did not insult the local venue or the Saudi royal family.
  4. I didn't watch Wrestlemania. I'm surprised, though, to hear that Cody lost. Hasn't the Roman Reigns/Bloodline story line gone on for some time? I thought I read somewhere that Roman wants to step back and take a break from everything. My first thought when I heard UFC and WWE are now going to be under one corporate roof was that now they are both going to move most of their content to "streaming" and make people pay for it. Bye bye Monday Night Raw!
  5. Thank you so much! I guess my problem was that I had both broadcasters on. When I changed that to having the PPV broadcaster only, I finally started making money on each event. Now I can focus on finding good fighters to sign, putting together interesting fights, etc.
  6. I'm seven months into a new game as BCF. I have been losing up to $100k per month, even though I am having almost all my shows in London and have been doing common-sense things like hiring recommended fighters, having division champions fight #1 contenders, making fights according to popularity, etc. I am having one or two events per month. Is there some simple thing I am doing wrong? I have only about $500k left, so I will be bankrupt in less than a year. I would appreciate any advice on how to continue.
  7. You forgot "this business." For me, though, "this industry" is the worst. 😀 Cody Rhodes has been looking pretty good in interviews. I think he will make a great "universal champion."
  8. That's unfortunate. I hope he gets straightened out and can soon resume his career.
  9. One pairing I miss is Riddle/Orton. I read somewhere that Randy Orton is hurt, while Riddle is under suspension. I thought RK-Bro was surprisingly entertaining.
  10. How do you add a venue? I'm going to purchase the game, but at the moment I'm playing around with the demo. I live in Ohio, and I see that while Cleveland and Columbus are in the default universe, there are some venues in Cleveland that I would like to see in the game. For example, Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse hosts Monday Night Raw at least a couple times a year, and we have a couple smaller venues as well that could host a show. I have searched the forum for an answer, but have not found one.
  11. @Sentinel79 - Thank you. I will see if the videos will help me. At the moment I'm making no progress in understanding some basic concepts, even though I seem to have run one TV event. I am trying to run another TV event and have pre-booked several matches for it. But when I try to actually run the event, I get a message saying I cannot run an event for which I have booked no matches. How can that be? Sorry for the dumb questions.
  12. I noticed that. One thing that confuses me is how to go about setting up good matches. The rosters are quite large. How much time do you spend studying your rosters and deciding which matchups will be the best? It seems like it would take a very long time to create a group of matches for each show. In WMMA you can quickly look at potential championship fights, then check your notes to see who is calling out whom, and then ask your adviser to point out other possible good fights.
  13. When Gargano was wrestling here, I remember two things about him: he was kind of skinny, but he was the most athletic and technically proficient guy on the program. The local promotion was really low-budget, almost a "so bad it's good" kind of thing. They had folding chairs, and usually about 20-30 people in the audience. Yeah, I've been a wrestling fan since way back in the early 70s. Big Time Wrestling was on WUAB Channel 43, one of the two UHF channels we had. Johnny Powers, Bobo Brazil, The Sweet Man, etc.
  14. After RAW last night I was looking up some wrestlers on Wikipedia, and came across an entry for The Nexus. I had forgotten all about them! I always liked Wade Barrett, and enjoyed that whole Nexus story line much more than I did NWO. As part of my effort to understand how to run a universe in TEW2020 I looked up the WWE roster. Gee whiz, they have a LOT of people under contract! Why is it that only a few of them ever appear on RAW or Smackdown? I have watched wrestling off and on for many years, and there is much about that world that I don't really understand. If you don't watch every week, you really can't keep up with the story lines and you wind up completely lost. I liked Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler as a tag team, but I see that Nia Jax is no longer with WWE. I liked The Hurt Business, but it looks like they are gone. I thought Brock Lesnar was a heel, but it looks like he is a face now. I'm not sure where the Seth "Freakin" Rollins character is going. And I don't like the Dominik vs Rey Mysterio story line. The Viking Raiders are fun, but I don't like the Street Profits. "Profits" from what? The drug implication does not appeal to me. Paul Heyman is always fun. Elias always gets on my nerves. I miss CM Punk. And is Sheamus, one of my favorites, on Smackdown now? Has Asuka been injured? She used to appear just about every week, and the character was one of the most entertaining ones in the women's division. In our home it's hard to watch wrestling every week, because when the Cavaliers or the Guardians play, we usually watch that. But when I am able to watch, it's a fun way to spend a couple hours.
