I was born in 1991, so I mdid not grow up with the NWA, I didnt grow up with Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Lex Luger. But I did grow up in Aaron's Creek, Virginia in the heart of the Mid Atlantic and I was trained by The Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant so that's all I heard about. How great wrestling was back in the day. Well, Tony I've always considered myself a throwback. I'm a full gear kind of guy, 6 foot 5, 280 lbs (Schiavonne blurts out 6'5?) and I kind of like idea of being the franchise player for this rebirth, rebrand of the NWA, so boys I'm not hard to find, get the contract, sign that dotted line and lets do this and create the new NWA style. Cash: "That's right Dax, theres two guys walking around with belts in James Storm & Eli Drake, why you have belts still from the last NWA attempt is beyond me, but whatever, were coming for that gold, because we are the best in the worl..... "But Enemies" I said.. </p><p> </p><p> Guys its</p><p> <img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/Ytj680M/Mark-Briscoe.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/Ytj680M/Mark-Briscoe.jpg"</a> alt="Mark-Briscoe" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/d5tyFyz/Jay-Briscoe.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/d5tyFyz/Jay-Briscoe.jpg"</a> alt="Jay-Briscoe" border="0"></p><p> </p><p> HOLY CRAP!!! NO WAY!!! I thought this was just a pipe dream, when you said, they were intrigued.. First FTR and now the Briscoes! I sense some people really are going to start talking about the NWA sooner, rather than us being an afterthought!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> I was so ecstatic, that I called my boy in Louisville, who I am trying to bring in to help keep things authentically 1980ish. Surprisingly he picked up. I said, "Picture this Arn Anderson sanctions a match for Spartenburg Memorial Auditorium TV taping featuring FTR vs Dem Boys" in an NWA ring, with Tony Schaivonne and David Crockett Jr. on the call."</p><p> </p><p> Sounds like you might need a manager or since one of your announcer is Crockett, maybe another voice in the booth. 13. <p>The Press Conference</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Well following my trip to Louisville, I left thinking maybe we had a chance to bring in another legend, but then started thinking, maybe its for the better that he doesn't come on board, since much of the world of wrestling today hates him.</p><p> </p><p> Time to hustle back to Charlotte, we were having our first press conference which we were airing on youtube and our web-site. FTR, along with some guys from The NWA were going to be there and we were hoping Arn Anderson could be our big surprise.</p><p> </p><p> Made it to Charlotte in 10 hours, then took another hour and half navigating Charlotte Traffic to the Studio we were using for the press conference. Dave Meltzer, Wade Keller, Bryan Alvarez, Conrad Thompson and a few friends and family were in the audience.</p><p> </p><p> My Media guy partner took the mic and basically stated how they loved what Billy Corgan did to bring wrestling from the 80's back and that we hoped to take it to the next level. We will have a rebrand of the old NWA World Wide Wrestling program airing on youtube, but we have had positive talks with WCCB in Charlotte, WLFL in Raleigh, WYCW Spartenburg/Asheville and WIS-TV in Columbia (All CW Networks) for paid programming. The intention of our TV program is to promote the weekly shows we will hold on Monday Nights at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, with hope to expand into those TV Markets as soon as possible. Its going to be old-school, smash-mouth, great promos, great matches with emphasis on no glitz and glam and all substance. I would now like to introduce members of Billy Corgan's NWA that will be staying on board with us as we take the NWA name to the next level.</p><p> <img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/xHpsQ2N/Tim-Storm.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/xHpsQ2N/Tim-Storm.jpg"</a> alt="Tim-Storm" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/bF57QPz/James-Storm2.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/bF57QPz/James-Storm2.jpg"</a> alt="James-Storm2" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/TmvTVzB/Bram.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/TmvTVzB/Bram.jpg"</a> alt="Bram" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/WnsqV51/Royce-Isaacs.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/WnsqV51/Royce-Isaacs.jpg"</a> alt="Royce-Isaacs" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/NFKKKbC/Eli-Drake.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/NFKKKbC/Eli-Drake.jpg"</a> alt="Eli-Drake" border="0"><img src="<a href="https://i.ibb.co/qRv99ZN/Trevor-Murdock.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.ibb.co/qRv99ZN/Trevor-Murdock.jpg"</a> alt="Trevor-Murdock" border="0"></p><p> The 6 men took questions on the end of the Corrigan era, Nick Aldis, what they continue to bring to the NWA brand. 14. This is fun!Got the feel of an old territory with some guys that can go in the ring.. Nice get by bringing in Gable and Hero (see them helping your match ratings going forward.
  15. Louisville, Kentucky We met at a Wendy's in downtown Louisville, at my guests call, for which he said, "If you are going to drag me out to discuss today's wrestling, that at least I want a good meal out of it." I started off with the whole 9 yard pitch, everything authentic from the ring color and apron, to the venues, to the theme music for TV, to the title names, to the character development...heck even bringing kayfabe back. The reply I get is, wrestling can't go back.. Its too far gone to the silliness, and goofiness of being this outlaw mudshow, cinematic bull sh!t, and my heart cant take anymore of this for f*** sake" "Jim, I promise you, we have the NWA name, we are going to keep the tradition of that, even more so then Billy did, we really need some links to the past and while we are awaiting word from someone in AEW that wants to come back home, to serve as a behind the scenes authority figure, and bring the vibe of the 80's back, we need a few more and you are Mr. retro wrestling." I said. We need a team of a couple of guys to put thier foot down and not let the silliness happen, but to critique (maybe with a few less cuss words) announce, put over the talent of today like it was 1984. "Who do you got?" he added. We have them best tag team in wrestling today signing on the dotted line today. We have James Storm, Eli Drake, Trevor Murdock, Tim Storm, Ricky and Robert and every other NWA contract besides Nick Aldis.. We are close on another great tag team that finally may take a step out of their backyard and we have a top talent in NXT who's contract is about to expire and a member of the Elite who has an opt out of his contract option that is considering stepping out and making a name for himself.. "Well if you are talking about Balding Buck and Road Warrior Buck or Twinkle toes McFingerb*** this conversation is over for F*** sake" He replied I promise you, that you will like the talent you are working with. Heck even our job team is coming together very nicely for our TV Show "World Wide Wrestling" Who else is on your 80's committee to be the voice, he asked" Well nobody yet, thats why we need you, but I have meetings in Charlotte, with a few guys that worked themselves on World Wide Wrestling in 1984!" My phone buzzes. It's a message from one of my partners, who texts me to let me know, we have our first veteran in, after asking for and being given his release from AEW, because he wanted to finish his career where it started. I look at my guest as I finish my Frosty and said "Check that, we have one confirmed! I show him the message and my phone which is accompanied by a picture of <img src="https://i.ibb.co/WWkYprB/Arn-Anderson.jpg" alt="Arn-Anderson" border="0"> I said, "There's one, can you make it 2?"
  16. Next Meeting Everything is happening so fast!!! Are group text chain blows up daily, with another inquirary. Guys we have so many local workers as well as some up and down the coast looking for work, that I just started asking, "How do you feel about being on the job team" "The Job Team??" I responded. "Yes, if we are going to run a TV show, that features our stars, storylines and promos we need to have a team of guys that not only play the role of jobber, but have the skillset to make our stars look fantastic.. Remember old 6:05 wrestling on TBS? They had George South, Trent Knight, Rocky King, Tommy Angel, Gary Royal, The Mulkey Brothers.. I have a growing list of guys willing to play this role, BUT it might not be a bad idea to maybe do a show once a month, so they can get real work, perhaps a child promotion.. I replied, "Im all for it, but if we're going to do it, some how, some way I want to see a Thunderfoot on our team... The rest of the guys laugh as we spend the next hour naming old NWA/WCW jobbers. The next day on my way across town, the group text started to blow up.. We had a schedule.. Thursday we would tape 2 episodes of our TV show World Wide Wrestling, Friday would be post production day, Saturday we would air on Youtube our World Wide Wrestling Program, as we still hold out hope for buying time on CW networks in the area. Sunday is open for now and Monday we will run a weekly event in Charlotte, NC. Tuesday is still open. (So we have some holes to fill, but for now its TV (Which we will do in Spartenburg, SC, and Charlotte every Monday Night... Greensboro, Raleigh, Columbia, Greenville, Asheville are coming down the road I pulled up to my appointment and knocked on the door and was instantly star struck seeing one of my all-time favorites. I did my best sales pitch in that we want want a return to 1980's NWA style wrestling. We start with bringing kayfabe back, running the towns, 80's music, presentation, managers, squash matches, plain trunks-smashmouth wrestling! We just need an icon that all the guys respect, that can lay down the law of our vision and the nostalgia part would be a killer bonus. "You know, that I have an agreement with Cody and AEW" "After about 3 hours, I finally got a "You know I like the idea of being able to go home after work and even less travel and of course the NWA is near and dear to my heart.......... Let me talk to the boys over there... You know, there might be a couple other old-timers there as well, that wouldn't mind coming home so to speak as well" My jaw dropped as I have a legend, telling me he is interested in coming to our team and that a couple other legends would probably be interested in this concept.. I followed up and asked do you think they would have a working agreement? He said, "You know these guys are so cool, so laid back that just might be open to some possibilities.. Lets talk next week." I thought my news was going to be the biggest news of the day, when then suddenly I get a text from my partner.. "Guys, we are big-time!!!! Drawing up the contracts for our first official telent signing as we speak. By the end of the day we will have these guys under contract to wrestle for the N.W. "F'N" A, my partner said without being able to contain his excitement The next message says Welcome to the NWA and then these 2 images <img src="https://i.ibb.co/vQPKLg2/Dash-Wilder.jpg" alt="Dash-Wilder" border="0"> <img src="https://i.ibb.co/bvsCjBB/Scott-Dawson1.jpg" alt="Scott-Dawson1" border="0"> I guess it's time to hold a press conference......!
  17. The Next Meeting Well alot has happened since the last meeting of our 5 team (Board of Directors-which is what we are jokingly calling ourselves).. Billy said make an offer. Well, we had already been working on additional investors and easily had the capital to more than satisfy Billy Billy if you are wondering is lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins and owner of the NWA Billy Corgan. His version of the NWA has been on hiatus and he had been thinking of closing shop. Our vision is to head back into arenas but bring the nostalgia we've seen on NWA Power except hopefully adding to our talent pool.. By the way the offer was made and accepted. We now own the name NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) as well as the contracts of their team, with the exception of one wrestler. That was Nick Aldis, who had some investment of his own and would like to move on to something else. We were ecstatic! We had deals with James Storm, Eli Drake, The Rock-N-Roll Expres, Royce Isaacs, Trevor Murdock. We had a brand (THE NWA). We had arrangements with arenas (Looks like the NWA is coming to Grady Cole Center, The Old Charlotte Coloseum, Spartenburg Memorial Auditorium and dialing in on Dorton Arena and Greensboro Coloseum. We had our website up and running. Our booking inquiries were going through the roof. We were planning our youtube TV series NWA Worldwide wrestling" with some showcase matches for our talent in hopes that people will go out and buy a ticket to watch the shows live.. Everything is starting to fall into place as far as our foundation goes. Now its time to add to the core.. Trips to Asheville, NC, Aaron's Creek Virginia, Laurel, Delaware and back to Louisville, Kentucky on the schedule for me this week. Additionally WCCB Charlotte's CW has paid programming spot available Saturday Mornings at 11am and a conversation with them is also being fit into the crazy schedule of a brand new wrestling promoter
  18. Meeting So a week has passed. Each member of our team had gone to work on a bunch of tasks. It was a marathon meeting. One associate brought up, that we dont need to travel! The internet can stream coverage and since we all live relatively close to Charlotte, I say we make that our home.. Much like it was the home for Jim Crockett promotions, I have checked with several arenas in the area and we CAN run Bojangles Coliseum, where many a stars showed up for work in the seventies and eighties.. We can run Grady Cole Center right off of Uptown Charlotte, for smaller more intimate setting, we can run Cabarrus Arena & Events Center just a short haul up 85 in Concord. I also have confirmed that we can get in Spartenburg Memorial Auditorium just a couple hours down 85 the other way. These building are all relatively smaller and we can make these kind of buildings a more intimate environment, not to mention keeping costs down. Well I have reached out to several agents and there is alot of intrigue in regards to our throwback style. There is currently alot of wrestlers out of work and some with contracts expiring soon as well. Not to mention possibility of working with other organizations. And .... And ... And I have recieved word that a big name in AEW has an opt out ih his contract and is willing to hear what we are doing! I am not going to say, who because I dont want to jinx anything. Well, I talked to Ric Flair! WHAT!!!!! was thecollective gasp from the others in the room.. Settle, settle, he has no interest in coming out of semi-retirement. But he did say you need to talk to Arn (Gave me his contact), he can help and is not under a written contract in AEW. You need to talk to some of the other legends in the area, Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson, Nikita Koloff, Ricky Steamboat, Magnum T.A. and do a Legends event, and bring the past and bridge them to your new philosophies. Those guys will get behind this and actually still sell you some tickets Well I tried talking to another Mid Atlantic Legend, and after he swore at me a bit, and asked if we were starting another all-friends wrestling, It took alot of convincing that we want our product to look 1984. A true alternative. He said he wishes us luck but the wrestling industry is ruined and there is no way he is coming back to work in the business. So what do we call this wrestling league? The suggestions poured out, "OTW Old Time Wrestling", "RWA Retro Wrestling Association" "World Championship Wrestling, does anyone own that?" "Tar Heel Wrestling" ....."Guys, guys...! I just checked my messages and I got a text from Billy." "He wants us to make an offer" .......................
  19. The Meeting So we sit down in a meeting at the offices of one of our partners. A Lawyer, a Concert Promoter, a Television Sales Executive and 2 Financial Advisors. Hardly, the group the should be considering putting up their funds and time to run a professional wrestling organization. However, Id like to think this group of 5, have some very transferable and useful skills, as well as a significant chunk of Investment dollars to follow a dream. So as we sit, in our partners law office, we pull out the easel with giant paper tab and decide to lets focus on what we want to be Old-school, 80's smash-mouth style, more substance less style, kayfabe, athletic, realistic and believable, nostalgic, sign the Briscoe Brothers (Yells our ROH Fan), guys showing up in plain trunks with no flashy ring gear and just fighting, No flips, just fists (yells our WWE Revival fan). The days where the crowds were screaming/screaching fans, wrestling at 6:05, 70's & 80's music (shrugs another as he embelishes on his Nostalgic idea from earlier) The night went on and on and on and on At the end, I said it sounds like we all need to jump into a time machine and head back to Charlotte, NC of 1984! You know, we could do this, but it might not be for everyone. The AEW fans, will be turned of by the armbar replacing the superkick, the WWE fan will be turned off by the lack of a 10 minute promo and pyro and jumbo tron to start the show We all agreed, its our wrestling promotion. Let us do this our way really well and cater to our niche. Who knows, maybe whats old will be whats new again But we need some people in the business to help us. Who do we talk to? I write a name on the board. "Oh boy" is the response I get. A-lot of people can not stand him. Guess we don't want The Young Bucks working for us. Lets meet next week. We need to talk TV Production, arena's and territory we want to run. We need to name our organization. Each member of the board, of our unamed promotion had work to do. They had an agenda to complete. before next weeks meeting. Oh and to make some contacts within the business!
  20. Well we started watching AEW and NXT together but apart every Wednesday via group text. The conversations were: Did yousee the match where they fought in WWE Headquarters and then Rey Mysterio was thrown off the building. Or, how about the tag match on AEW where 5 guys stood outside the ring waiting to catch the wrestler jumping off the tunbuckle. Hey, you should give Jim Cornette a listen, he has a podcast and he basically beats up todays wrestling. Dont forget to watch RAW, The Viking Raiders and Street Prophets are mini-golfing? It has become a weekly scheduled tirade on the world of wrestling which we all love, but have a tough time stomaching. Finally my brother kids and texts, "Why don't we just start a promotion. I mean between the 5 of us, we have Capital and surely we cant be the only ones clamoring for tough guy vs tough guy in the ring, no fancy outfits, flashy moves, just meat and potatoes punch you in the mouth wrestling like Arn Anderson or Tully Blanchard vs Magnum TA or Nikita Koloff, or the matches that get the screams like when Rock and Roll Express would take on The Midnight Express. Like when Flair would style and profile or Dusty would get funkey like a monkey" The text thread went cold then a response of "I'M IN" "ME TOO" "Make that 3" and then I finally responded "Lets go for it"
  21. We gather every year to watch Wrestlemania and while wtching myself, 2 siblings and 3 friends (ages 35-50) all take about wrestling's glory yeogars. We talk about attending shows at Madison Square Garden. We talk about spending summers at Grandma and Grandpa's where they have TV access to the NWA. We talk about our dislike for Hulk Hogan because he was cartoonish, but loved Paul Orndorff, Greg Valentine, US Express, British Bulldogs', Maginificent Muraco's. We discuss how Savage the Macho Man was antd his match with Steamboat was off the charts. We digress to the NWA, where we always believed that this wrestling was real. Nikita would take your head off, The Anderson's broke arms, Dusty was fat, but he was tough, obviously due to the amount of blood he spilled. Man the were intense. We sit back to watch Wrestlemania and following the Firehouse Fun Match and Boneyard match we just looked at each other and said, "What did we just watch?" We discussed AEW and our conversations lead to how almost every wrestler there uses a dive to the floor so often that this move is now like an armbar.. New Japan, Ring of Honor we all shut done. We left saying instead of meeting for Wrestlemania, maybe we should just meet for Starcade and start in 1983.. The wrestling industry has evolved and changed, some love it, but it just isnt this group of 5 cup of tea
