Welcome to my nightmare

Quick question for those re-rendering

How long is it taking for the render process. I know previously mine could take a couple of hours. Is it quicker in the newest version of DazStudio?

With an RTX 2060 Super and the current DAZ Studio Public build (not sure if the RTX enabled on is the full release yet) usually between 5-15 minutes. With my 680 it was closer to an hour. Before I would get tired and stop them. Make sure to go to Render Settings, select the Advanced tab at the top and ensure your GPU is selected under photoreal mode. Also, Iray only works with Nvidia cards and if you don't have enough VRAM available for the scene it defaults back to CPU only (Which takes forever).

On a side note about Iray, does anyone who has been using it for a while have any setting/pre-set recommendations they are willing to share.....most of the renders I've done with Iray are coming out too dark for my tastes (I'm still using JSilver's presets that he shared a long time ago which work great with 3Delight, but I really like the render speed with Iray). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.....

The 3Delight ones aren't going to work very well with Iray. I updated the kit for Iray though. You can find the DL below. If your renders are coming out too dark with the Kit's Iray preset go to the Tone Mapping option in Render Settings and increase Film ISO just a little.

The read me says " Copy lights folder to your DAZ Studio install directory (ex. User/My Documents/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library)"

However I can't find this? Just downloaded it and mine is DAZ3D/DAZ3DIM1 or DAZStudio4/ or PostgresQL CM5

I open dazstudio 4 and dont see studio/ my libray. Any help?

You're looking at the Install Manager download directory. If you open Studio and go into Edit > Preferences and click the Content tab you'll see Content Directory Manager at the bottom. From there go open up the tree to DAZ Studio formats and you'll see where the default install directory is, you'll also be able to add one if needed.

This is nice and all, but are we really doing this? Putting everything in one giant thread? Request, alt's, new renders, rerenders,...The only thing's missing is promotion logos and title belts.

We're definitely not. Was I not clear enough about it only being worker renders and rerenders? Should I make it clearer? I made it clearer.

They've never worked out very well in the render threads. A lot of people just requesting elaborate renders and 25 at a time at that. If anyone wants to make a request thread though go right ahead. If it keeps this thread from getting clogged up with requests that'll never get done I really don't see any issue.

Not sure how a dozen unorganized, unmaintained threads is better than one unorganized, poorly maintained thread.

I’m going through my picture file from 16 and updating it for 20. What would be the best way for me to upload it for others to use if they’re interested?

Is there an easier way to sift through these than going into folder after folder?

Let me tell you a story from a magical time an internet age ago. There once was a website called Photobucket and he was amazing. You could upload files to specific folders and have folders in folders and, here's the best part, he had Tags. You could tag any pictures you uploaded with the worker name and the artists name making searching for specific things a breeze. Things were good, but then Photobucket started seeing all the social media sites and thinking he wanted to be just like them. Photobucket changed, he was all about the socials and stared to hide all his best features like Tags.

Then one day Photobucket started smoking that crack and it changed him. He threw away everything good about himself and charged people $500 for a peek. Photobucket quickly hit rock bottom after realizing nobody wanted him anymore. Then he kicked the bucket.

TL: DR No. Photobucket used to have everything we needed for a Render Thread gallery, but their new CEO was a greedy prick and killed the site. Nothing else has come along that does what PB used to do. If anybody finds a hosting site that does just let me know, I've tried all the ones I can find (No, google drive, Imgur and flickr aren't good replacements)

Can someone make an alt thread? Or will that just be taken care of here?

Is anyone even doing alts these days? If there are I'm sure one will make a thread soon enough otherwise everyone will just be sending requests into the void and it'll be no different than not having a thread.

Is the link in the first post not working for anybody else? Doesn't seem to be a bandwidth error as much as a broken link.

Well, just checked my e-mail. Dropbox suspended my public links for excessive traffic. I suppose they aren't technically a file hosting site after all. Either it'll resolve itself or it'll be another solution down the drain.

And before I forget, for my fellow artists a PM made me realize I never updated the readme with the 4.12 starter kit. The 'lighting' is handled by an HDRI.

Dome rotation will change the direction of the light. The stuff in the Tone Mapping section is also used. Environment Intensity would be the lighting strength, though you're probably better off using the exposure settings under Tone Mapping for that.

Have you ever looked at The Minor Annoyance and thought, "Boy, he ugly!"? Well, you're not alone. Here in this thread we make these workers look so much better, like this:

Also, since the thread for original renders always seems to get lost in the shuffle for months or years at a time this thread is now dual purpose, Worker renders and rerenders. (Note: This thread is not for alts, belts, logos, etc. Those have their own threads.)

All images in this thread were created with the rendering program DAZ Studio (Free) and Poser (paid) still exists too I guess. Please visit the linked sites and their forums to learn more about the programs. Trell's Render Tutorial (using DAZ Studio 3) can be found HERE, DAZ's New to DS4 Youtube playlist can be found HERE. Free content can be found at Renderosity under Free Stuff and ShareCG (acct required for both). I've provided a Render Starter Kit for new artists to DAZ Studio which includes light sets, render presets, and information on key render settings and links to free content. Also, since this has come up yet again recently, I don't nor have I ever claimed to own the idea of putting all the renders into one place for the convenience of those who want to download them. Anyone else could have at any point in time. They could even take everything from the current Dropbox if they want and use that as a starting point. Knock yourself out. I'll even add it to the first post.

If any renderer wants to zip up their renders from this thread I'll add them onto the dropbox. Also, I took some time (Since I needed to redo my lighting for Iray anyways) and redid the Starter Kit for Iray. The lighting (SettingsFinal) is a custom HDR image, just use dome rotation to rotate the lighting around. With a new game and new database out it's time to start fresh once again with this project. I'll attempt to keep all pertinent data here in the first post to avoid any confusion or needless repetition of questions. For anyone wondering about the Photobucket, screw Photobucket, we have Dropbox now.

Michaels, Killer and Parker were done in DS and the others in Poser. That said, you have a few options for cheap hair props. First would be DAZ's Platinum Club, it's $24 for 3 months, but you'll have a lot of $1.99 items to choose from, <a href="http://www.daz3d.com/hair?plat_club=23" rel="external nofollow">Platinum Club Hairs</a>. Another route to go is the freebies route, not always the best quality, but can't beat the price. As far as facial hair goes your choices are pretty limited, you either have <a href="http://www.daz3d.com/short-beard-for-genesis" rel="external nofollow">Short Beard for Genesis</a> (Which has pretty bad transmaps) and <a href="http://www.daz3d.com/unshaven-beard-for-genesis" rel="external nofollow">Unshaven Beard for Genesis</a> (Which is fibermesh. Tons of Polygons + already slow render engine = ?). Anyway, there you go. [*]Photobucket continues to astound me with how a once functional website can continuously regress in actual functionality for such a prolonged amount of time.

[*]For those renderers using Photobucket for upload, please go to user settings > Privacy and uncheck scramble filenames. This would simply be a kindness to me as it would give me less work and the less J has to do the more likely J will actually do it. Unless you're cool with quarterly updates. Just saying.

[*]I've pretty much given up on Photobucket. If anyone has alternate solutions for a gallery I'm all ears.

[*]I'll continue using Dropbox for uploads. If you want to DL just a single image click on it and then on the ellipses in the bottom-right to select download. You'll get the badly compressed version if you right-click dl.
