1.

Sydney Wrestling Federation Presents:

SWF: King Of Sydney

Saturday, Week 3, February, 2003

Attendance: 2,170

Rating: 0.04

1) Much like last month, I hit the ring and addressed the crowd that was slightly smaller than last month.

The promised arrival of Madison Eagles was to be halted as she could not return home from the States in time. I apologised to the crowd who honestly, did not really care whatsoever.

Until I made it up to them by introducing our newest competitor - Samoa Joe. Joe didn't even need to say anything and just stood there looking angry and mean as I talked him up to be one of the industry's brightest stars. Ultimo Dragon then hit the ring for the first contest of the night.

RATING: 57

2) ULTIMO DRAGON vs SAMOA JOE

From the outset it was obvious that this was to be one of our fledgling company's finest matches. The debutant used his raw power against Dragon's years of experience and agility and matched him quite well. Joe made several near fall's early on in the proceedings, however Ultimo fought back well and enjoyed a period of sustained dominance.

Until Joe snapped.

After kicking out just before a three count, Joe rose to his feet and delivered powerful, unforgiving blows to the veteran before hitting him with a huge powerbomb followed by a brutal muscle buster. The Samoan then hit the outside of the ring, past his boss Wilkie at the announce table, and grabbed a steel chair. Dragon was already past the point of consciousness when it was wrapped around his head. Joe walked to the back in a fit of rage as the bell was rung.

RATING: 33

3) The Legion of Doom were filmed earlier backstage, yelling with force their desire to become the King of Sydney. They stated that they had each others back and would take out the trash before deciding between them who deserves to be the inaugural champion.

RATING: 32

4) Amazing Red hit the ring in preparation for the first ever "Amazing Race" open challenge. After scouting his opposition the previous month he is ready to take on whatever the best of the SWF can throw at him. Enter Mabel. The big man says nothing as he strikes Red, thus beginning the first ever "Amazing Race"

RATING: 40

5) AMAZING RED vs MABEL

"Amazing Race" Open Challenge

Mabel began this contest and held it for the three short minutes the match comprised of. Using his superior size and power he was able to keep the high-flyer grounded and as such won in an absolute canter.

RATING: 22

6) As Mabel stared down at his fallen foe, he appeared to be preparing for another vicious attack, until Harry Smith hit the ring and blindsided him with a chair. Still reeling from last month's loss, Smith was able to dump the big Mabel out of the ring and check on Amazing Red as he began to stir on the floor. Mabel grinned at the two young men in the ring as he walked backstage.

RATING: 36

7) Vader bumps into Vampire Warrior backstage. The one time partners give each other a nod before going their own ways, preparing internally for tonight's main event.

RATING: 45

8) SEAN WALTMAN vs CHRIS CANDIDO

After the events of Australia Day Showcase, Waltman was out for blood against Candido. These two proved to be a solid match up between two equally gifted performers, however at times Candido was sluggish and seemed to be in a different world.

Candido's performance nose-dived towards the end of the match as he began to mouth off with a fan, challenging him to step in the ring or meet him after the show. Our security team managed to get Chris back into the ring where he was rolled up by Waltman as the Japanese ref (what was his name again?) counts a very quick one - two - three.

RATING: 25

9) As Waltman begins to celebrate, he is level by a Candido superkick. The attacker then runs backstage in a bizarre set of circumstances.

10) HAWK vs ANIMAL vs VADER vs VAMPIRE WARRIOR

This was a sluggish brawl between four ageing athletes. The Legion of Doom held the upper hand early and managed to throw their rivals to the outside of the ring. Instead of turning on each other, the veteran tag team waited for Vader to come back into the ring where the worked on him two on one. Vampire Warrior used his wits and watched from the outside, only returning to attack Hawk from behind.

After this beginning sequence, the four men all got their shots in and brutalised each other with clubbing blows and slams. The match ended in controversial circumstances when both Hawk and Animal were pinned by Vader and Warrior respectively, leading to Japanese ref declaring both men to be the winners. Yours truly, Julian Wilikie, hit the ring at this stage to sort this out.

RATING: 29

11) I, Wilkie, gave the Japanese referee a huge spray as I entered the ring that thankfully wasn't picked up by the microphones. I declared the match to be a no contest and that it would not be restarted as none of these four mean deserved to be champion.

I ordered the show to close and told our viewers to come back next month to see who can finally take home the title of King of Sydney.

RATING: 54

OVERALL "KING OF SYDNEY" RATING: 38

 2.
And Then Came The Celebrations...

It was pretty shabby, but hey, worst things have been put on TV. Considering most of our talent is well past their prime I think we put a decent product out there for the first show in our history. And at least if our events aren't great, we definitely set a high standard at the after party! Brian Lawler and Bryan Danielson, two people I am yet to meet, missed out on an outrageous bonding session that ended with most of us cruising Sydney Harbour in my dad's yacht - two days after the show had ended! I've been on some pretty good benders but this one has got to be up there.

Amazing Red was a bit perturbed about not actually getting to wrestle so I told him at about 4am that he was going to be one of my biggest stars and that I loved him. Guess I better give him a match next time we do this.

Red also flicked me three phone numbers. One was for some Japenese ref who's name I can't and never will be able to pronounced, and the other two were for some of his mates in America. Samoa Joe and CM Punk are supposed to be the hottest up and comers in the world at the moment, so on his word I sent some feelers out to them. Joe signed with us for a year with the intention to see if he's actually any good before we lock him down for longer. Punk on the other hand, well let's just say I don't think he'd particularly fit in with what we want our backstage culture to be so I let him pass.

The two Brian's, Lawler and Danielson, were unable to make it down under for our first show due to other commitments. From what the boys said about Lawler, he loves a good time so I hopefully I could get the pair to head south for our next show, King of Sydney. I didn't really know how I wanted to use the pair but hoped that something would work out and they would become stars.

After about a week of recovery and Panadol, I started getting to work on our February show. We'd lost nearly ten grand of our initial loan from my father but when has money ever worried me - onto the next one as always. This February show would be vital for us continuing to make a name for ourselves as it coincides with the end of cricket season and the beginning of football season - so we were on our own.

I had been putting feelers out to celebrities to appear on our shows however had been turned down by most. Champion cricketer Shane Warne was the most interested however he backed out due to the results of a drug test. Could've used a bloke like him.

Ah well, bigger and better things to come.

Sydney Wrestling Federation Presents:

SWF King Of Sydney

Saturday, Week 3, February, 2003

ULTIMO DRAGON vs SAMOA JOE

The Debut Of Local Legend

MADISON EAGLES

SEAN WALTMAN vs CHRIS CANDIDO

"The Amazing Race" Open Challenge

AMAZING RED vs ???

To Be Crowned The First King Of Sydney

HAWK vs ANIMAL vs VADER vs VAMPIRE WARRIOR

 3.

Sydney Wrestling Federation Presents:

SWF Australia Day Showdown

Saturday, Week 3, January, 2003

Attendance: 2,264

TV Rating: 0.05

1) Our show opened with myself, Julian Wilkie hitting the ring. We did a bang up job with our production standards as Channel Nine requested. I stopped halfway down our brand new entrance ramp and unveiled the top prize in the Sydney Wrestling Federation - the King of Sydney Championship Belt.

I told the audience that the inaugural champion would be decided next month, and it would be contested by whoever impresses me the most.

RATING: 56

2) After I leave the ramp, the Legion Of Doom are shown on the video screen that lights up above the ramp. Hawk and Animal express how they are both ecstatic to make it to Australia and both want to prove how good they are by becoming the King of Sydney.

RATING: 49

3) Mabel's music plays and he hits the ring to a moderate crowd response. He blasts the Legion of Doom and whoever else is trying to become the first dominant star in the SWF as he is prepared to show Australia just how good he is. In doing so, he sets an open challenge, which is accepted by Harry Smith, the son of the British Bulldog. Smith states that even though he is only seventeen, he will give Mabel a masterclass in wrestling.

RATING: 39

4) HARRY SMITH vs MABEL

This was a match epitomised by the upstart Smith trying to work his way around the menacing veteran Mabel. After several attempts from Harry Smith to lock Mabel down, he was eventually defeated when Mabel picked up the pinfall in 10:37. Not too shabby for the SWF's first ever match, but not good either.

RATING: 23

5) The referee from the previous match grabs a microphone and begins to speak. He tells the crowd that his name is Amazing Red, and that he has come to Australia to finally find himself as a big fish in the pond. He tells the crowd that he loves to challenge himself and wants to make a name for himself all over the globe, hence why he has committed to refereeing every single bout tonight to scope out his competition,

RATING: 10

6) Our camera cuts backstage, where a former star in the USA Sean Waltman is walking backstage. He bumps into someone, and as the camera pans out it is quickly revealed that it is Ultimo Dragon. Waltman tears Dragon to shreds about his mask, his culture and his identity before the two agree to duke it out in the ring as soon as possible - which is right now.

7) ULTIMO DRAGON vs SEAN WALTMAN

This match between two former WCW stars kicked off with fast, explosive action. The crowd was torn between cheering for the degenerate, reckless Waltman or the Japanese lightweight Dragon. The ending to this exhibition match occurred when Chris Candido ran down our ramp and got the attention of Waltman as Dragon was able to lock in the Dragon Sleeper to get the submission victory.

RATING: 28

8) After costing Sean Waltman the match, Chris Candido continued to beat him down. After inflicting a brutal beatdown, Candido grabbed a microphone and requested a match with Waltman to prove who the "biggest and sexiest" man is...

RATING: 28

9) We cut to a pre taped segment where Vader and Vampire Warrior agree to team up against the Legion of Doom in the main event to show to Australia how good they are. Vader & Vampire Warrior both state that they are desperate to prove to Julian Wilkie that they should be in the running to become the first King Of Sydney as the camera cuts to the Legion Of Doom making their entrance for the main event.

RATING: 45

10) LEGION OF DOOM vs VAMPIRE WARRIOR & VADER

Road Warrior Animal & Hawk both hit the ring in tandem ready to get their SWF dominance off to the right start, followed by Vader walking halfway down the ramp before Vampire Warrior rose from beneath the stage through a circle of fire.

The Legion dominated the early parts of the match, using their experience to get on top of the makeshift team. However, Vader & Vampire Warrior were able to hold their own due to their own personal skills. After nineteen minutes of back and forth action, Vader was able to pick up the pin when referee Amazing Red was dealing with Hawk and Vampire Warrior hit Animal with a chair for the three count.

RATING: 35

11) Julian Wilkie, the SWF owner stormed into the ring at the conclusion of the main event and announced that the first ever King of Sydney would be crowned in a four way match consisting of Hawk vs Animal vs Vader vs Vampire Warrior. And the match will be the main event of the SWF's next show.

RATING: 54

OVERALL "AUSTRALIA DAY SHOWDOWN" RATING: 41

 4. Two Weeks Later... My first two weeks as a wrestling promoter were, frankly, rough. I tried to cut down on the grog and smokes and focus but I think doing that made me focus less. I put feelers out all across the States and somehow assembled a rag tag bunch of fellas to join the SWF. Half of the talent I managed to get a hold of were also in touch with either the WWE or CMLL and wanted absolutely nothing to do with me but hey, it's their loss. I sat with a stack of paper at a nearby rooftop bar to have a think about what I could do next. Here is how my roster was shaping up so far, I divided them into their position on the card and also whether I will be running them as either a face or a heel. My roster is definitely a little face heavy but let's be real - the crowd will hardly know any of them anyway so hopefully that isn't too much of an issue. Main Event: Vampire Warrior Road Warrior Hawk Upper Mid Card: Road Warrior Animal Sean Waltman Midcard Brian Lawler Mabel Ultimo Dragon Vader Lower Midcard "American Dragon" Brian Danielson Chris Candido Opener: Amazing Red Enhancement Talent: Harry Smith Personality: Madison Eagles Announcers: Yours Truly, Julian Wilkie It was rough knowing that I wasn't actually going to meet any of these people under the day before our first show, which I hadn't even set a date for. I did sign one young Aussie girl that I hope could connect with the local audience, even if I probably didn't have much use for her. I knew the first few months were going to be rough but was desperate to get myself in a position to turn it around as soon as I could. I hastily started making plans for our very first show. I wanted to capitalise on the little popularity we had gained from our initial opening by holding our first event before January ended. I had a lot to do, and not a lot of time to get it done.
 5. "Good evening and welcome back to National Nine News. Our final story for tonight centres around notorious party boy Julian Wilkie, who is again making headlines today however this time not for his drunken antics throughout Kings Cross. The son of mining tycoon and millionaire Mark Wilkie has today revealed that he has founded Australia's first major wrestling promotion since the late 1970's. Dubbed the "Sydney Wrestling Federation", The twenty-two year old released in a statement yesterday that he is "set to reinvigorate professional wrestling throughout Australia by gathering the best wrestlers from across the globe to deliver an exhibition in athleticism in entertainment". The SWF has been in talks with the Nine Network and it is anticipated that it will be a key component of Nine's Wide World Of Sports following the end of the cricket season. America's World Wrestling Entertainment visited our nation last August and broke the attendance record at Melbourne's Colonial Stadium as Mr Wilkie attempts to capture the success of the wrestling industry at -" I clicked the television off and rolled over in bed. January 1st, 2003. And I was waking up as the evening news finished. My head pounding, I made my way towards the window of my penthouse suite and threw the curtains open to reveal the beautiful city that is my home. Sydney Harbour always looks beautiful as the sun is setting. The previous day I had finally announced my baby to the world. I was finally ready to step out from under my father's shadow and take the world by storm. So, naturally, I had to celebrate that. It all started with a few lunchtime beers then all of a sudden it was eight in the morning and I was finally getting into bed. I grew up watching wrestling and now - here I was - owning a company of my own. Sure, my father may have been the financial backer and sure, he may have only gotten me a slot on Channel Nine because his mate runs the show there, but this company was mine! Under my name! I stepped onto my balcony and lit a cigarette. I knew I was about to change the game. I knew I was about to change Australian pop culture. I knew I was about to make myself an Aussie legend. We were going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of talent yeah, but I had the plan all laid out. Get some guys who were big a few years ago to come over, get some young guys who can work and slowly build up some homegrown talent. Get some boys in that look like they know how to have a good time. I had the money, I had the TV. What could go wrong? As I sat reflecting on the past 24 hours, I thought back to the newsreader. "Notorious party boy" - I wasn't always like that. When dad got rich and left mum for Natalie, the hot blonde only four years older than me, I went off the rails. Yeah, I was pissed off that he left mum and yeah, the only way he got me to shutup was to feed me money. What else does a young bloke do with unlimited money behind him? Everyone wanted to be my mate and I loved that, making friends and enemies on a night out gave me a purpose. It wasn't until I got locked up after a nightclub fight that I pulled my head in. Well, tried to. I don't think I ever truly liked my father. Nor do I think that he liked me. When mum died I guess we went through the motions and pretended to "need" each other but of course we really didn't. When I asked dad for the money to open my own promotion I think the only reason he was on board was because it would probably be our only point of contact. Even better, he went chasing a mate at Channel Nine to help me out and they did their part in drumming up some interest. So that was the easy part done. Now it was all on me. It was a great idea in my head but as I sat on my balcony on the first day of 2003 I realised that I had absolutely no idea what to do. But I am a Wilkie. I do not fail and I do not quit. I was about to turn Australia on it's head. Sydney Wrestling Federation Turning Down Under Upside Down
 6.
Hey guys,

Just curious as to if there was a way to edit a 'B' show into an 'A' show without adjusting the contract? Cheers.
