  1. Lightweight is lacking for contenders.

I would love to see BJ Penn at lightweight again but I'd want him to get one favorable fight before he faces anyone that good. But then again I wouldn't mind seeing BJ vs. Nate. I'm not sure if they're friends or not. I'm actually watching TUF 5 on my DVR right now. They're replaying that season on FUEL TV, soon to be Fox Sports 2.

  2. Thompson is badass in his own right. After rocking Diaz when he was mocking him the whole fight I ws impressed. Thompson is no slouch, and I think he's closer than Grant (who even as a pretty hardcore fan, he does not ring any bells or have any big wins to me) or Maynard (who has the 1-1-1 going right now.

I know I'm probably in the minority but I actually really like Gray Maynard and I enjoy his fights for the most part. I think if he finishes TJ Grant who is 4-0 in the lightweight division and has only lost at welterweight in the UFC, then he is really close to deserving another title shot.

But really I think Anthony Pettis is the best Lightweight and possibly Featherweight and he should be getting the next shot and Aldo should fight someone else.

  3. I think there are fighters that can achieve headline popularity and be at the smaller weightlasses. I just don't know that Johnson's that guy but we'll see.

I agree with bigtplaystew. I love the smaller weight classes and I think they put on exciting, action filled fights but I don't think Mighty Mouse is the guy that's going to draw new fans in just to see him fight. I think if McCall would have won that first Flyweight tounament like he should have (imo) then he would be a better draw because who doesn't want to tune in and see a guy called Uncle Creepy fight? But who knows.

I think for now the UFC is making a wise decision by putting the Flyweight title fight on the TUF 17 finale instead of PPV because this is one of the most hyped seasons in years and there should be a good amount of anticipation going into the finale, especially if Uriah Hall makes it to the finals so you'd have to think that there will be a good amount of viewership ranging from the hardcore fans to people who have never even seen the UFC. Eventually I think they'll start putting the Flyweights on UFC On Fox and then after that PPV unless they get the injury bug again then they would have to throw them on PPV sooner.
