  1. I'm finding it hard to get behind AEW's top babyfaces besides Cody, who's still doing great. I've never found Moxley's AEW character to be very likeable to begin with, but recent development really made it worse for me. Moxley turning down Inner Circle's recruitment offer was expected, and there's nothing wrong with that itself, but the segment dragged way too long and overstayed its welcome for me. And after he decided to steal the car I couldn't summon any sympathy for him for getting the beatdown from Inner Circle. Then the Inner Circle took out his eye, which I thought was a great heel move, and I thought maybe, just maybe, I can finally root for the wronged babyface against the dastardly heels....except they went and undo all that work by having Moxley sink down to their level the following week. Okay, this isn't the first time a face gets pushed over the edge and starts doing questionable deeds to fight against the odds, but their reactions after that don't help establish him as the guy who deserves more sympathy. Moxley cut some generic promo rambling about abstract honour while Santana actually gave a good emotional interview giving us some nice relatable backstory about his blind dad. Santana did MUCH better at gaining my sympathy and I found myself rooting for him and wanting him to kick Moxley's ass in last week's main event. Moxley supposedly wanted out of WWE because he wanted the creative freedom they refused to give him. As far as I can see, he's not making very good use of that freedom. I can't believe I'd say this, but the Dean Ambrose who was trying to avenged a shattered potted plant was a more likeable face than Moxley (not that it says very much). And then there's the one other main event-level babyface they have, Kenny Omega.....the tag team story with Page is fine, but that feud with PAC is making Kenny look like a condescending prick for blatantly not even acknowledging PAC's challenge. PAC wasn't even making some ridiculous demand like MJF. Him wanting a rubber match with Omega was a perfectly reasonable request, and for WEEKS Kenny refused to respond to that. What kind of babyface would constantly duck a request for rematch? He wasn't even asked to put anything on the line like Cody did. If he was just waiting for Tony Khan to approve the match, he could easily have said so, considering he was on TV every week. It's really grating to watch the "bastard" heel constantly challenging a face that keeps ducking him. And PAC was right: obviously, Nakazawa meant nothing to Omega. If this ends with Nakazawa turning on Omega and costing him the rubber match it'd make perfect sense. And he'd absolutely deserve it.

Something is clearly up here and I'm curious to see what it is. The story world version of Cody and Brandi's marriage would seem to be far different from what it is when the camera goes off. There's a tale in why a married woman like Brandi is acting so vampy and devilish whenever she comes out. <p> </p><p> Could MJF be right? Could Cody not be what he appears and be a secret partner in this Nightmare Collective? Meaning he and Brandi are a more united front that it appears? There would almost have to be some in-character reason she's taken a part of his nickname and sown it into the name of her pet project. </p><p> </p><p> If it even is HER project. Could someone else, Kong for example, be pulling the strings and making Brandi present herself this way? Maybe thinking "pretty woman in a slinky dress is more likely to be heard." Not to mention deflect suspicion from the real mastermind. </p><p> </p><p> Regardless, I can't help thinking there are pieces to the puzzle we're not meant to see yet where Brandi and her? collective as concerned. Heck, maybe even the hair collection is a diversion from their real plan. All I know is I'm not ready to be as upset as you are about Brandi's mic time just yet. There's a grand scheme afoot with whatever she's doing or at least one would hope so. For now I say let it unfold or fail to do so. There were be plenty of time for consternation if the failure happens.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Whether this particular story becomes something worthwhile or not in the long term, would it really have hurt them to let <em>other</em> women actually talk on TV? My sarcasm about the "Microphone Championship" stemmed from the complaint that they're <em>only</em> willing to give promo time to Brandi. It'd be also have been worth complaining if the only people in the men's division who get mic time are Jericho and Cody, even though they are legit the best at it in the company. Right now, there seems to be some unwritten rule that prohibits women from doing something other than having random matches. I've already given up trying to make sense of why 3 women who are not No.1 Contenders are randomly getting a title match with no build up.</p><p> </p><p> Although I guess they did finally let Riho speak one single word this past week. Yay! <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> And Britt Baker got another storyline now.....and it's apparently something similar to the kind of story they did in WWE where the bitter full-timers complain about part-timers like Brock Lesnar because he's not around every week but still holds the championship as the top guy. Which is a really weird angle to run when it's been noted that amongst the things that's supposed to make AEW more appealing than WWE is the fact that they allow the wrestlers to split their time between AEW and other companies and in the process encourage talent sharing and cross-promotion matches. Brock Lesnar was portrayed as the privileged guy who only works when he wants to, Riho being placed in a similar light for having to split her time working in other places (and being promoted as the champion of this company while working there) is just mind-boggling.</p><p> </p><p> ****</p><p> </p><p> There was some sort of implication that all the Elite members were in action this week to make a sort of comeback from their beatdown last week.....and apparently none of them are interested in going after the guys who beat them down last week? Not what I'd expect from babyfaces. In <em>some</em> cases they make sense. Dustin definitely should be more fixated on going after the Inner Circle for breaking his arm. And Cody I guess can justifiably said to be distracted by his issues with MJF. Why wouldn't the Bucks want revenge on the Dark Order asap though? And while Kenny has a sort of story with Page and PAC neither of them felt critical enough at the moment to distract from last week's attack. </p><p> </p><p> Guevara's silent promo w/ visual aids was great. This is the first time the show held my attention for the full duration of a commercial break without being distracted for even a few seconds. He's done the best character work in AEW thus far besides Jericho, Cody and MJF. Push him more.</p><p> </p><p> Christopher Daniel's midlife crisis story is somewhat intriguing. Looking forward to seeing more.</p>
  3. <p>Kassius Ohno's new gimmick is great. How often does a wrestler telling his opponent "don't make me hit you" in the middle of a match make complete perfect sense within the context?</p><p> </p><p> I really like how the Outliers (especially Mak) are being portrayed as great dominating fighters but keep losing matches because they drop their guard too early in the belief that they already have match won. Two impressive performances in a row.</p><p> </p><p> Dragunov would be a grade-A comedy performer if they ever decide to use him as such. I couldn't stop laughing at his dramatic selling of his hand injury at the end. He'll blow Santino out of the water.</p>

Makes sense to me now.</p><p> </p><p> The more I think about it, the more I think they should keep the time limit for all matches involving this title (maybe they will, which would make me a very happy man). It even works well with the concept of a "title for TV", underlining that there isn't enough time on a TV show for wrestlers to put on 60-minute spectacles, and they're under pressure to win fast and gives it a distinct identity from the other singles titles.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="nerodragomir1" data-cite="nerodragomir1" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46898" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>It needs to be said though, I don't like the Nick Aldis heel turn at all. I liked him just being like Okada, in the sense of he's the champion. He's not a good guy or a bad guy. He is just the top man in the company & will back up whatever he says. He can be a jerk or be very respectful, depending on the person. I liked that a lot about his reign.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Totally agree, especially since it really helped to set him apart from all the generic heel stable leader champions in all the other companies.</p>

  6. Damn, the top heel stable plague has infected NWA too. Aldis was straddling the respectable tweener line perfectly, and I hate that they've turned him into yet another boring blatant heel. And why would Kamile cost him the first fall at Into the Fire if they were always on the same side? The 6:05 time limit for the tournament qualifier is....different. I wonder what's the exact reasoning behind. Why 6:05? I don't hate this, just genuinely curious. When they first announced the title i was rather dubious, as I don't think they have a big enough roster to warrant having 3 singles titles, but maybe if they make this time limit a standard rule for all matches involving the title (and not just the tournament qualifiers), maybe that can help give a more unique identity to it, kind of like the old FCW 15 Championship, and help differentiate it from the World and National Title. I always thought the concept of a "TV Title" is rather weak unless the World title is never defended on normal TV, which is not the case for NWA. Aaron Stevens and Question Mark need to make good on the promise to go after the tag titles asap.

CGC World Title Match: DT Rush vs Blockbuster Ultimate Showdown Series Exhibition Match: Sayeed Ali & Diablo DeVille vs Running Wolf & Bobby Thomas Winner Picks The Stipulation: Philippe LaGrenier vs Greaser Woolabonga Bogans vs Jack DeColt & Skip Beau Much as I like the Going Postal match, I think it's more likely that Greaser gets his cage match when the match is taking place at this particular event....
  8. I use that guy as an annual recurring character in one of my games (in December, of course), punishing wrestlers who've been naughty and stuffing coals into their boots after beating them in a match. He might actually fit quite well thematically in your little horror fed. Maybe you'd consider Ajax to fill up the hole that Lucas just left? That's why I didn't suspect him to be the culprit. I know you don't write entirely based on game mechanics (and I wouldn't have it any other way), but you've already mentioned that he was loyal in the story, so it didn't quite make sense for him to be doing all these things to his boss.
  9. I love the main event last week. Best I've seen within the last month. And I think the best non-spotfest match I've seen from the Bucks (speaking of which, I think they really went too far overboard with the tables spots the previous week). A great match to end out 2019 for AEW. I like the Butcher/Blade vs Cody/Darby match too, but the booking of the heel team looks really uneven. Butcher got all the highlights and Blade pretty much got nothing. I'm new to this team, so i don't know if that's how they've always worked, but this looks like a one-man team. Every time Blade gets in the match he gets owned the enemy gets the upper hand in less than a minute. He barely got any significant offense in. This is not the first team where the bigger powerhouse is booked as the big equalizer of the team, but they kind of took it to the extreme in that last match. So did Jericho officially lose the match in the record books? He really should. He demanded the match to be restarted and they did restart the match, and then he just walked out. Logically that should give Jungle Boy a countout win over the champion. Even if it ended up not being counted in the record books, why would Jericho take that risk and walk out? The last time he lost a match he had to defend the title against the guy who beat him. It feels kind of weak that he would decide to walk out after dominating most of the match just because his opponent managed to string a few offense in. Ugh @ Brandi again being the one getting more TV mic time. They might as well create a new Women's TV Microphone Championship and make Brandi the inaugural champion, since apparently only she has the privilege to talk on TV. Everybody else just gets interrupted when they try. Riho was getting an interview after her title win (supposedly in Japanese), and got attacked by Nyla. Jamie Hayter was getting an interview backstage and then got attacked Brandi with zero follow-ups. Allie was getting a random live interview, and gets destroyed by Kong. Statlander gets her post-match interview, and Brandi interrupts her. Britt Baker only got to say something when she was on commentary. Brandi is more annoying than Stephanie McMahon at this point. And it's not even like she's a manager cutting promos for actual wrestlers....Paul Heyman and Zelina Vegas are managers, and when they talk hype up the wrestlers they manage and promote their matches. Their promos revolve around their clients. Brandi's promos revolve around herself and her stable, and Kong and the new bald recruit are just..."there". She's being used like CM Punk in the SES, except CM Punk was the actual best wrestler and star of his group, and Brandi clearly is not.
  10. Aww....here I was hoping it was another transparent framing effort similar to how an obviously fake footprint was used to frame Anders. Will this show ever be the same again without everyone's favourite crackhead?

  13. I'm calling it: Clare South is the one pulling all these malicious backstage pranks on Oswald. You'd better let her win the next bikini contest.
  14. I've only read the first show thus far, but it's enough to get me hooked. Will be following this. And wrestling certainly is high art. Or at least it ought to be. I've always felt that for pro wrestling to prosper and reach another boom period it needs to evolve to something closer to theatre and drama instead of trying to hang on to the "good old days" of pretending to be legit sports. That's the definition of devolution, trying to turn back into something it used to be.

My idea was actually inspired by DDT's Extreme Title, but having googled it, it looks like Progress made a new title that's pretty much identical to the Extreme title. Wouldn't be surprised if they got their idea from DDT too, since they've been doing it for 7-8 years.</p><p> </p><p> I actually used another variation of the title in one of my own....I can't call it a diary, since I never wrote it but it was a story in my head when I ran one of my games. I used a <em>reversed</em> idea of the title: instead of the champion always choosing the stipulations, I made a title where the champion has to let the challenger choose the stipulation for title matches. The idea was that the champion needs to not only be the best at one area, he needs to be versatile at everything. With this title, he's forced to always play by the opponent's rule, so he has to be good enough to beat them at their own game. That, to me, is the ideal of a perfect champion. No one is perfect, but anyone who can hold the title for a long time with multiple defenses must come damn close to it. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Riho is busy in Japan but I'm hoping she's back next week for the final show of the year. Failing that maybe a #1 Contenders match between Shida and Emi.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Point on Jericho/JB not being a title match....but it still doesn't explain why Jericho would bother to come up with excuses about not wanting to fight Marko Stunt, who has to be the easiest opponent he can probably find on the roster. Even the most cowardly heel champion shouldn't be ducking fights against Marko Stunt.</p><p> </p><p> And if there were a #1 contender for the Women's title, why would it be between Shide and Emi? I mean, I love both wrestlers, but <em>within kayfabe</em>, why Emi? She's not even No. 2! If Shida has to defend her No.1 position against anyone, shouldn't it be either against Statlander (who just beat her), or whomever the No. 2 is next week (not that I ever want to see Nyla Rose in another title match)? My main gripe about the ranking system is the lack of detailed explanation of how it's meant to be executed, and if they were to do what you suggest, it'd make even less sense.</p>
  17. After an average episode, last week's NXT UK gave me a pleasant surprise. Wasn't expecting much out of it, since none of my favourites were in action, but that Ligero/Banks/Conners 3-way really killed it. The tag match was another sleeper I wasn't expecting. I haven't seen enough of the Outliers to decide if I will be a fan, but the booking of the match of great, Hitchman came out looking like a million bucks despite his loss. The Hunt is usually hit-or-miss for me, but last week they delivered.
  18. <p>They've debuted an alien wrestler! Colour me intrigued. I want to learn more about the character. Too bad they didn't give her any promo time. Solid in-ring debut for TV, though. I really think they should have just given her the spotlight during the post-match and not have Brandi step on it. The recruitment and head-shaving could could easily have happened in a different segment. And I'm not really interested in Brandi's little stable. Why's she always the one getting mic time? I want me some alien promo.</p><p> </p><p> Jericho and Cody as usual are flawless when it comes to the delivery part of the promos, although the premise for both is questionable, especially for Jericho. In Cody's case....how much power does he actually have? I thought that was the reason he made the stipulation to forfeit all future title shots, because he didn't want to be seen as someone who's abusing his position of power? Why is MJF allowed to "refuse to wrestle Cody"? I mean, sure, he <em>can</em> refuse, even if Cody goes ahead and make the match, but can't Cody just keep booking the match and then fine MJF his pay-cheque every time he refuse to do his contractually-obligated job? Admittedly, this is just a minor quibble, and the story they're having (Cody trying to entice MJF to agree to a match with baits and rewards instead of punishments) can be potentially very intriguing too. I'm still looking forward to how it goes.</p><p> </p><p> Jericho, as mentioned, again with the flawless delivery. Moxley being the new substitute for ARMBAR is hilarious. And I love the idea of Jericho vs Jungle Boy. But...why the hell is Jericho trying to avoid a match with <em>Marko Stunt</em> of all people? I mean, the story is that he's contractually obligated to fight, even though he doesn't want to. If a lazy/cowardly heel HAS to fight someone in AEW, shouldn't Marko Stunt be his first choice of opponent? It would have made sense for Jericho to actively lobby for Marko to be his opponent just so he can get this contractual obligation over and done with with an easy opponent, only for Jurassic Express to somehow goad him into accepting a fight with Jungle Boy instead?</p><p> </p><p> What do the ranking systems actually do? Moxley and Shida were officially "No. 1 contenders" due to their ranking....so if Jericho has to fulfill a title defense obligation, why would Moxley not get the shot? Is there a stipulated amount of time that they have to <em>stay</em> at No.1 in order to claim a title shot? There're a number of things that AEW introduced but haven't demonstrated much in the execution, and this is one of them.</p>
  19. <p>Next week on Title Bout Wrestling</p><p> </p><p> CGC Tag Team Titles: DaLay & Son vs <strong>Express Delivery</strong></p><p> Ultimate Showdown Series Qualifier: Julian Watson vs <strong>Running Wolf</strong></p><p> Diablo DeVille vs <strong>Bobby Thomas</strong></p><p> <strong>Skip Beau</strong> vs Rusty Mills</p><p> Drake Young vs <strong>The Great Trickerion</strong></p><p> </p><p> ****</p><p> </p><p> For character-based title, you can have 1 belt that changes according to who's holding it. The rule is that the champion gets to decide what kind of title it will be. If Drake Young wins the belt, he may declare that the title will only ever be defended against women and ethnic minority while he's holding it. If Joey Poison wins it, he can declare that all his title matches will have 12-minute time limits (so that if he can't win before his potion wears off, the match immediately ends without him having to risk losing it).</p>
  20. Stu Bennett as new commentator is awesome. I like Aldis naming Tim Storm as his referee of choice. It's amazing how well the PPV matches are being built up with (sometimes less than) 1 hour of TV time per week while the bigger companies with multiple shows are struggling to build more than 2 matches (often less) well on their PPVs. The only match without a strong story is Question Mark vs Murdoch, and the Question Mark is so over that the crowd will probably be going crazy for it anyway with or without a story.

  22. Dynamite's opening segment stole the show. Jericho and Guevara do the hug way better than the Best Friends ever did. Even Jericho's Dad was on point. And that was the most entertaining thing Jake Hager ever did in his entire pro-wrestling career. Side note: Jericho and Dad are splitting image of each other, unlike the Rhodes. Did they ever explain the criteria behind the rankings? Is win/loss ratio more or less important than mere quantity? And do tag wins and losses have any bearings on singles ranking? It's still hard to justify Brandi Rhodes with her 100% unblemished record not being in the top 5 but Allie and Nyla Rose made it with their negative ratios. The booking of the women's division feel particularly messy compared to the rest of the roster. The men's undercard may not get that much TV time but most of the time there's still continuity in feuds. When one guy/team attack another there usually resolution in the upcoming weeks. The women's segments has had too many things that seem to go nowhere: Riho shoving Yuka away at Fyter Fest, Kong vs Kong confrontation at Fight for the Fallen, Brandi attacking Hayter backstage, Bea getting attacked by Kong last week....none of that were followed up on. Obviously part of the reason is they involve workers who are not signed full-time to AEW so they're probably not available, but in that case why tease/start feuds with those people? Why not just have the guests show up and wrestle, and start stories with the workers that are actually on the full-time roster? Maybe some of those feuds will be brought up again later, but there's been absolutely zero reference to them in the meantime so how many viewers will even remember those by then? The one story that was actually followed up on and resolved was one that was started by a legit accidental botch and concussion, which really shows a lack in any real planning they made for this division. First time I heard JR bring something positive from the commentary table in AEW: if MJF intends to keep using the Cross-Rhodes (and not botch it), he absolutely should name it the Double-Cross, or Double Cross-Rhodes. A most fitting name considering the backstory. And happy that the right guy won the diamond ring.
