  1. Would be fun in you have a talent exchange agreement to get guys like Kidman in a for a couple months. why you worrying about money? Looks like you have enough to last 2 years at the current rate. granted it may keep you from growing as fast as you want or resigning your big name stars in a crunch, but you won't go out of business anytime soon (which is a good thing for us readers)
  2. <p>Slater and Orton were a hall of fame tag team together, so that's a pretty big deal that Orton sided with his WWF running buddy over his long time championship partner. Looking for lots of fun angles and matches and this develops.</p><p> </p><p> I'm glad Slater and Piper look to be splitting up. Every time i saw their pictures side by side in their talk show, a different name for the bar always popped in my head - one that might have gotten them kicked off the air. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
  3. <p>I really enjoyed this mod. I've been dabbling with a couple different territories to get a feel for the new game and the mod. Here are a couple observations/suggestions:</p><p> </p><p> 1) The territory popularity seems high compared to the popularity of the wrestlers (one or both might need adjusted). For example, Mid-America keeps getting a warning they don't have enough stars. 65 starting Pop for them might be high since they drew almost 20K for the month end show. I'm sure Nick Gulas would have loved that.</p><p> I think I counted 15 total wrestlers with 65 popularity in the SE - I don't know how that compares to other mods, but would expect more wrestlers above the level. And more to point, more wrestlers in each territory that would exceed their starting level (since their main eventers would have been popular in their home state). It's hard to replicate real life with the game engine since most of these territories were very popular in their home area, but not so much in the rest of the region. Think CWF - huge in the state of Florida and a little spillover into Georgia, but no one in TN knew anything about them outside what they'd read in PWI. I think 59 is the level required for Medium, so maybe most should start in the 55-58 range or so.</p><p> </p><p> 2) star power - I may be wrong, but I don't think the STAR rating will change over time. It's kind of a preset built in. So a rookie who "has the look" will gain quicker. If that is true, a lot of guys should have a higher Star rating since they were or would become top stars in several territories and hall of fame legends. Some names that jumped out include Bob Armstrong, Mr Wrestling II (Johnny Walker), maybe even the Fullers. Popularity might not be overly high if they are just starting out, but the star power should help them reach their potential.</p><p> </p><p> when you look at the BATTLES tab, most of the territories should have at least 3-4 guys listed in their main home region. (mixture of individuals raised and territory lowered should do the trick - and that might also keep some attendance and financials in check too). Your bigger mainstream territories would have more (like Mid-Atlantic, CWF, St. Louis etc.). I loved my Gulas-Welch and Gulf Coast back in the day, but I don't think they were in the same league (they could have been but as one profile correctly pointed out - Nick was satisfied with "safe" and average shows more than spending money or taking risks. He was a good booker and promoter though and did well with what he had.</p><p> </p><p> 3) Individual tweaks - not sure why Jackie Fargo shows only as an amazing heel. He was the top face for Gulas at the time. I can see him being able to do both side of the fence.</p><p> Paul Jones - big star in Florida and Mid-Atlantic had a 25 pop in SE, but a 60 in the NW (wonder if those got reversed in error)</p><p> </p><p> Road Agents - how do they gain experience? It seems some of the historic greats start off very poor in this regard (like Jerry Jarrett - who might gain during matches, but what about Crocketts?). I used Jarrett to butcher one match every card just to see if the key "Road Agent" attributes ever increased (in addition to a match) but they never did in the couple months I played each territory.</p><p> </p><p> 4) product types for the territories. When I played Mid-America,they are classic sports entertainment which penalizes brawls, and one goal was not being able to hire brawlers (which excludes a lot of their big names - like Tojo, Sputnik, Sonny Fargo. even the Andersons could be banned in Mid-Atlantic/JCP). Classic Southern Wrestling might be a better fit for them (also Gulf Coast). curious if "Wrestling as real sport" might fit CWF since Eddie liked to hire guys with strong amateur backgrounds. Thinking also the Texas territories might use the Wild Wild West (it seems tailor made for them). Just some little tweaks here and there for the places that loved their brawls mixed in.</p><p> </p><p> 5) TV shows. a lot of the TV stations require popularity in 0 territories. Allows to spam tv shows all over the country (and make a little money on them. Even if you only get 75 viewers in a graveyard slot, you'd make a little ad money and gain new fans there. Personally, I like it not to be impossible to branch out (reasonable requirements that could be obtained in time) but not this easy. example, I could PR starved for wrestling and their tv might have more lax requirement (like maybe when the spillover reaches 5-10 a small station would pick them up)</p><p> </p><p> CWF was drawing 3x the number of viewers from Mid-Atlantic than they did in Florida. And they were not that far behind JCP in Mid-atlantic viewers (90k to 65k) Something is amiss there (maybe the Charlotte station they're on is too big for the game world). They started as medium because of popularity in Mid-Atlantic which shouldn't be right. (maybe 30 so they can reach it quick enough. Likewise Mid-Atlantic branched into SE, so it can just a tad higher. Most the others stayed mostly at home - although Nick's home area stretched a bunch of states from the Gulf to Great Lakes - running towns in KY, etc.). I like how you gave Mid-Atlantic two TV stations - that helped them especially compared to CWF encroaching on their area. One idea I toyed with that may or may not work is to set up "syndication" stations for the major territories. That could allow to have a nice presence in the home state and a very tiny station to replicate that one-off show they had somewhere else (like CWF's one show in Charlotte and the one in NY - it helped get their wrestlers over there so they could travel up for shows, but didn't really help them that much since they didn't actually book shows there).</p><p> </p><p> 6) I love that most the territories I've tried start out level 5 merchandising and can see which wrestlers are selling merch. Sad part is most do not have anyone (or just a couple) that qualify. I don't know the criteria but assume it would require a POP above the territory popularity. example, Jackie Fargo sold $24 the first week in MA, but a terribly booked match or something dropped his pop below 60 and he never sold another dime - and I never could get him to regain any of the lost pop. The Wrestling Bear was my big merchandise star. :-)</p><p> </p><p> 7) title requirements - some seem too restrictive. Most single heavyweight titles I've viewed limit to Light Heavy and above. An example I remember was MA's Southern title. That means the guy who the belt more than anyone else for a long time could not challenge for it - Jackie Fargo is a middleweight (which might be the better choice - since a lot of the smaller guys competed for the main titles in the south. In WWWF they favored bigger guys, so I can see a higher restriction there.</p><p> </p><p> oh - and Mighty Igor should be a heavyweight (289 lbs). I laughed out loud when I saw him win the Jr. title. not sure about Waldo Von Erich who also won the NWA Jr title in one.</p><p> </p><p> 8) wish list which isn't likely would be historic territory specific arenas at different sizes. Which I was running MA and had to go to Florida for shows since there are no arenas in TN with 5,000 capacity, it made me think. But truly, that's a small price to pay and I can justify it all. So what if Nick ran the Fairgrounds or Hippodrome drawing 2,000 fans every week and the game has him drawing 5K in Florida - in reality, he was running similar shows every night so he would be in front of 5k each week and the MOD gives us that.</p><p> </p><p> I do wonder if a weekly house show and a month end show is too much for of these. One option might be a "city specific" show - add 2 for the major territories and 1 for the smaller ones. Example - Mid-Atlantic might run Greensboro Thursday Week 1. and Raleigh or Charlotte on Monday week 3, plus the monthly show. (reduces the number of house shows by 1). Florida could have Tampa and Miami. Smaller promotion could get 1 house show a month plus the month end. That's still more than most of the other mods would give a territory this size - they get weekly tv and one show a month if I remember correctly. The city named show gives that "realism" no matter where it is actually booked in the game world</p><p> </p><p> could you call the JCP TV show "Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling" even if have to abbreviate. Seeing several with same name "CW" gets confusing. same with studio show but I don't have a suggestion for another name there</p><p> </p><p> I know alot of the things I pointed out or suggested might be necessary or worth doing. Most is a few tweaks and fine-tuning (or correcting some data entry errors). I've really loved playing the different territories and getting a feel for the new TEW using your MOD. I can get lost in here for days and not eat or sleep if I'm not careful lol. thanks for all your hard work of putting this together.</p>
  4. <p>This is way cool I've seen a lot of these guys wrestle for our little local indy in East TN and look forward to following them here.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Facade</strong> vs. Joe Keys</p><p> <strong>Leon St Giovann</strong>i vs. Patrick Scott</p><p> The Dawsons vs. <strong>The Ugly Ducklings</strong></p><p> Harlem Bravado vs. <strong>Sean Studd</strong></p><p> Chance Prophet vs. <strong>Jason Kincaid</strong></p><p> Anthony Bennett vs. <strong>John Skyle</strong>r</p><p> </p><p> Hopefully, you'll be able to add few more of our local stars like Chase Owens. His ongoing feud with Jason Kincaid raged over a year. Kincaid held the Southeastern title longer than anyone, breaking the record of The Mongolian Stomper, but Chase finally reeled him in on one of his trips home from Japan.</p>
  5. this has been really good to read from the start. I'll admit I miss not seeing the match and show scores like you at first. That always a little to it (since we don't actually see the match itself, it helps visualize just how good it was). I've seen some that put the scores in a different post if they think it takes away from their write-ups. Personally, I'd love to see at least a quarterly report between JCP and WWF so we see who's gaining the edge (popularity, reach, finances). It's a shame to see so many small territories being gobbled up. Not unlike how real life unfolded, but still sad to see history repeating. On the other, I love that Crockett was able to steal Piper back and hopefully that will help give him an edge. BTW, I love the monster push Kamala has been getting on the undercard. He's left a pile of bodies and blood in his wake. I keep hoping that maybe he gets a small title run at some point. Keep up the great work!
  6. first, I've been away from this forum for quite some time. Came back to check out the new 2020 and fell in love with your ECW diary. You've captured the spirit of the extreme ECW Heavyweight Championship © Taz vs. "Dr Death" Steve Williams Everyone is going with Taz which makes sense - he is the hometown boy and Paul E did bring in Dr Death (and Gordy) to put over his talent in real life. But I'll go against the grain because I see more upside (and longer term storyline arc). Doc could do for you what Funk did for Paul - bring some mainstream acceptance. Besides, it sounds like Taz needs to be taken down a peg or two as his ego is out of control (which happens when guys never lose). This could help that process Imagine the match ending - Tazmission but Shane jumps in with a chair - Taz stops him and locks the Tazmission on him. Lights go out - when they come back on Raven is sitting in the corner. He and Taz face off when Jake the Snake clobbers Taz, and DDT's him onto the chair. They roll Doc on top and new champ. this gives up to 6 months to play with 1) Taz vs Snake next PPV, when Doc defending against say Terry Funk in a match that either reconciles Funk and Dreamer or furthers their divide. Could tease Doc vs Dreamer or hype up their actual match. 2) Taz vs Dr Death II. This time Taz brings his own reinforcements (Sabu and RVD to begin their own feud against Triple Threat). Taz regains the title 3) November to Remember: Taz vs Dr Death III - inside a cage ECW Television Championship © Brian Lee vs. Axl Rotten vs. Stevie Richards I want to go with Richards and can see him coming out on top. But Prime Time is getting it done for you right now. Stevie can still get over without a title. Maybe Stevie and Axl go at afterward. ECW Tag-Team Championship © The Eliminators vs. The FBI yes makes sense to get the belts off the drug abuser. FBI could give you some comedy defenses (like against BWO) in transition to a new champ. Or, you have the team you really want to be the next champions get involved in this match to set them up for the next PPV> Do you have the Hardy Boyz on loan long enough to give them a shot? Other Matches: Raven v. Sabu Tommy Dreamer vs. The Sandman I could see these two being an interesting tag team. Maybe there's a hungry team out there who tries to make a name for themselves by attacking both of them. Otherwise, I'd see Sandman winning to set up a rematch between them. My gut tells me something will happen during the match that leads to a bigger storyline for one (or both). RVD vs. Juvi vs. Jeff Hardy Van Dam has the bigger upside. Should be an awesome match to energize the fans - and I always look at matches like this to transition to new feuds (maybe Juvi vs Hardy) Looks like a great card and looking forward to the results. I love picking against the grain and giving alternate plans. As for the lockerroom - wow, 19 is pretty bad. My guess is the core of the original ECW roster provides most of that toxicity and getting rid of that cancer means the product is no longer ECW. Reading your thoughts on trying to be more mainstream to attract bigger sponsors tells me you might have a long range plan to trim some of the poison. Meanwhile, is it possible to hire a few locker room leaders (or borrow from WWF for 3-6 months)? Maybe even bring in some rookie "positive influences" to improve things. They don't have to be major players or big stars as long as they help clean up the smell in the back. again good job, can't wait to see what happens next
  7. one thing that has helped me is looking more at the key skill ratings after I scout them than just the number of stars. You might find a 3 star offensive lineman with 80 rated blocking skills which are as high or higher than a 4 star (thus finding the diamond in the rough). In a recruiting class I just finished - I had 2 ILB's which was a key position - both had me as their TOP ONE, and I nailed the pitch and maxed out my recruiting for them. However, both signed with another school. In both cases, it was to a higher prestige school. SO I think that's important when recruiting - to expect to lose players when a higher prestige team swoops in. I'm just not sure if we lose every time to the higher team (like some games do) or if we have a fighting chance
  8. I read diaries on here for two reason. 1 to be entertained and 2 to learn something - maybe find an idea that I can borrow and use in my wrestling worlds. as for timing, on the ballot that is currently up I looked at the last 30 days (right or wrong). It's the first, so there might be a few kinks to work out. seems like the ballot should go at the end of the cycle (first of the month), and give everyone a week to vote so it's timely.
  9. fewer candidates might actually be a good thing. We are focused in on the truly best diaries of THAT month -- rather than possibly that one show might be good enough to siphon off a few votes from loyal readers, but not the best of the month. If there are only 2-3 diaries that are active in a given month, then make an exception, but for most it's not an issue to put on 2 shows Would not hurt my feelings if the nominations made by the readers went to a committee who picked a top 5 -- but oh what a can of worms that would open
  10. that's exactly what I was trying to say. SLWC and Wild West are set to run shows on the same night, so Dory always goes to Amarillo so in the game he never defends his world title. Since the NWA World title is the only belt given to SLWC, they never have any title matches. My suggestion is to give them a house show on Monday, and the end of the month show on a Friday (which from what I can tell was their historic night for the big show at the Kiel) -- that way Dory (and others) can compete in their "home" leagues as well as the home base for the NWA which was St. Louis. I just thought moving the Missouri title back to St. Louis would give them another champion - and Sam did not believe in tag titles at all so that is off the table. It seems like at one time they shared a champion with Central States, but Sam got mad that a title change in STL was not recongnized in KC so he started his own and Harley Race beat Pak Song to win it. something else to mull over - I discussed this with another mod maker - for the rookies, while I like the fact that they start out from scratch with 0 popularity, I'm wondering if legacies and 2nd generation guys might ought to start with some popularity - living off off the old man's reputation? (think Fullers, Funks, Guerreros, etc) another idea to help with lack of color commentators that really keeps with the historical tradition is to include some generics such as "Los Angeles Sports Caster, Chicago Radio DJ, Tampa Weatherman, etc. they would have good colorman skills and a small popularity in their home area. (since their city would be but a small part of the entire game region). Hopefully, their skills would help them gain popularity over time as Dave Brown (Memphis weatherman), Phil Rainey (Knoxville weatherman), Chip Kessling (Johnson City radio sports personality) did when they worked on TV for local wrestling shows. Names could be made up, but a the "city/job" should suffice for our purposes and then we could insert whatever name we wanted if they are hired. In history, that is exactly where they went to fill these roles (and a lot of solo announcers like Gordon Solie who did not have a color man -- but a small tweak to history helps with overall game play)
  11. I just wanted to say I've really enjoyed this MOD. Someone already mentioned the omission of Ron Fuller, but can you also try to add the Moondogs (Spot and Spike). Spot aka Larry Latham and teamed with Wayne Ferris (aka Honky Tonk Man) as the Blond Bombers before he was a Moondog - that was the team that tore up Tupelo in a famous late 70's concession stand brawl. Spike used the name Dizzy Golden in Texas (teaming with brother Mike) until George Barnes brought him to Memphis to help his feud against former partner Bill Dundee. someone mentioned the large AWA roster and how they were actually different groups for different cities. Can they be divided up in divisions to capture this concept? (Minneapolis division and Chicago division - give each their own TV show and weekly or monthly spot show, then let them combine for the Month End show). Don't know if its possible, just a random thought. AWA was very active with 3 long world title runs. Gagne 16, Bill Watts 14, Dr X 15 (poor Crusher only had 2 defenses). Their tag titles were vacated twice when one co-holder bolted for a written deal in a new Cult company, I love how so many of the big stars are true rookies that no one has heard of - and you capture that with 0 popularity for them and they have to earn it. AFTER one year, Killer Karl Kox was named wrestler of the year. WSS was the best promotion (and an 86 rated event that was tops). Buddy Colt beats Jack Brisco in the Match of the year (95), Buddy Rogers was the best manager and Gordon Solie of course was the top announcer. top 10 just for info: Kox, Dusty Rhodes, Dick Murdoch, Mad Dog Vachon, Buddy Colt, Dory Funk Jr, Bill Watts, Inoki, Sammartino, Harley Race one other note: Dory Funk Jr never defended the NWA World title. Not even once. Just curious if possible to add the Missouri title to St. Louis? It was vacated in 1956 and brought back in 1972, so you're just moving up history a couple years. Dory has conflicts with other groups he's with and never wrestled in STL the entire year. one last historical note: Bruno Sammartino's year long WWF world title reign ended in December at the hands of Toru Tanaka. Tanaka lost his first defense to Killer Kowalski want to know anything else, ask.......but wanted to say thanks for a very fun Mod and history lesson
  12. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="C-Bailey24" data-cite="C-Bailey24" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="37477" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Great thread. What suggestions/exceptions should be made when recruiting/setting depth chart if your coaching a school in the 30-50 prestige range?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> agree with William's answer. I am coaching at such a school and drool over the talent he shows having at Ole Miss (but I had similiar when I coached at Tennessee). At the smaller schools, you won't get the top 100 5 star types. However, you can recruit guys for your system (looking at mostly 2 and 3 stars to begin with). The other schools will be getting those same quality guys (often 1 and 2 stars; though the top schools do score a few 4 stars from time to time). If you are able to "scout" and find the right guys (hands, speed, size, etc) you will be successful. I've gotten a couple recruits go on to become All-Americans, so it can be done (extra talent in the lower rung conference can set you up for success)</p><p> </p><p> trick is being able to find those diamonds in the rough from the recruiting scouting reports - and then being able to sign them (if a bigger school wants them, they're gone)</p>
  13. I second that notion,. This is some good stuff -- cant wait to read the rest
  14. One thing I've noticed is that it seems to be easier to recruit to a position where you have a star player. So maybe your DE's have not done as well in the past, so other good DE's don't want to play in that system. On my current team, I could not even PAY an OLB to sign with me. However, ILB's line up to play behind Woodall who has been a real impact player in the middle of the field. So I signed 3 of them - then converted one to OLB (and Ross, a 3 star ILB is now listed as 2.5 out of a 4.5 potential - and getting some valuable playing time as a Freshman, even a couple starts due to injury). I have the same problem trying to sign a DE. But for some reason, I had several good DT prospects knocking down my door (maybe because I had an All-American at that position last year). I signed 3 of them, and converted one to be a DE (then redshirted him so he can get used to his new position -- hopefully he sticks around). I was lucky enough to land a Juco DE last year, so Rodgers can learn by watching him and be ready to step into his postion next year. I'm trying to worry less about the # of stars and more about the impact skills. That's helped me to land some steals. I haven't gotten any "true 5 star prospects", but one was elevated to 5 stars after he signed. Also had some 3 stars that were listed as 4's when they signed. My last class was ranked #2, but I'm not sure how.....nine 4-stars and ten 3-stars. It's either the sheer size of the class, or they look at potential since every 3 star has potential of 4 or better. All I know is that I got better at every position and built some depth, so I'm very happy. Now if some of the recruits would just sign earlier in the process instead of always waiting til halfway thru so I could breathe a little easier.
  15. <p>back with a vengence!!!</p><p> good to see you make a return -- lots of good stuff going on. Rhyno sure made his pitch to be the new Beast of the ECW. can feel a path of rage coming on.... GORE!!</p>
