  1. Thanks for your help folks. Sock I wouldn't say I'm desperately worried about realism, but I'm not sure what subdivision levels are or how to change them, can you elaborate please?

Thanks for the tips Box, I used the undo button an awful lot on this one, not quite mastered having one set of eyebrows that aren't the default ones yet though :p

Render 2 with Elianeck lighting and tried to tweak the stock expression and pose just a little.

SubD divides the mesh into more surfaces, giving you a smoother, more detailed render. It's a requirement if you want to use the HD characters to their full potential. The downside is that it creates more polys and eats up more resources.

To change it, select your character, open the parameters tab, select the all group and scroll down to the Render SubD Level slider. I usually set mine to 4, which divides the polys in the model 4 times.

Your 2nd render looks good too. Elianeck's lights make a world of difference compared to the stock ones. :)

  2. Decided to try learning DAZ for the millionth time and for the first time thrown together something vaguely resembling a human so figured I'd share. If anyone has any tips, guides or good camera/pose/lighting options please send me them.

Invest a couple dollars in one of Elianeck's lighting packages. They are the best out there.

Look at photo references for expressions and tweak some of the stock expressions that you're using. Always remember to set your subdivision levels to at least 3 if you want a more realistic look. Finally, don't be afraid to try new things while you're learning. Develop your own style. Copying others at first is great but as you get more familiar with Daz, put your personality into your work.

  3. And, I'm experimenting with a new eyebrow tool. Did her eyebrows first strike you as weird or out of place? I can't tell if they really are, or if I'm just not used to the new eyebrows yet. Any feedback appreciated.

What tool are you using? It may just be me but it looks like the eyebrow hairs are growing in the wrong direction? Not a big deal when you reduce it down to 150x150 but I notice it on the larger image. Again, may just be me. Have you worked with the default G8 fibermesh eyebrows? You can get some pretty impressive results using them and the Colorwerks hair shaders.

  4. That Historian is hilarious. Great unique take on that character.

Thanks! Back when I was in high school, I had a friend who knew "everything" about wrestling (he knew a lot) and that was the face he put on when he started "educating" people. So that's who I based the render on. :D I once saw him have a 30 minute discussion with Hercules Hernandez at an indie show at our local armory about matches that he forgot that he had.

  6. I've finally taken a break from modding and decided to throw myself into a game. Started with a 0 pop custom women's fed in the USA and hire only unemployed and new workers. I am 3 years in and am on the cusp of growing from insignificant to tiny.

I've provided a "dirty doctor" backstage because with the number of new workers I employ (I have 24 workers on my roster and about 10 of them are rookies or have less than 2 years experience) so I figured that I -might- need the occasional painkiller. :D

So at any rate about 80% of the workers on my roster are now heavy steroid users. Is this a normal result of providing a dirty doctor? Is it something that's going to be toned down in a future patch? Or did I just get unlucky when my world was generated, and I got thrown into a universe of PED addicts?

  7. I'm glad I found this thread as I was going to suggest it myself. As a modder who has released a dojo expansion in the past, the removal of the ability to set a dojo to focus on a specific area of training limits the creativity and variance that I (ok yeah I'm being selfish) want to produce. Iron Mike's School of Hard Knocks doesn't have the same punch when it's cranking out entertainers, Japanese dojos aren't teaching Japanese styles, no luchadores coming from Lucha Libre schools, etc.
