  1. As much as I like and use the "home town fighter" drop down to filter fighters during matchmaking, I think the game would be better served and it'd be much more convenient if it were replaced with an option to search by "home region" instead, like the one which already exists in the Roster and Character pages. Not only can it still serve the exact same function of locating home town fighters, expanding the search option to search by home region will allow to search for nearby regions as well, or makes booking region vs. region shows a lot more convenient, among other benefits.

IE: You're booking a London show and want to focus on British fighters, it'd be nice to be able to look at North England, Midlands, Scotland, Ireland, Wales *and* London-based fighers with the same convenience we can currently look for local fighters. Or if you're booking some sort of region vs region show (think UFC 58: USA vs Canada), then it'd be pretty convenient to look at fighters from the different regions you're looking to match up.

As it stands, the only real option is to completely exit the booking screen and go to your Roster page to accomplish this, which seems needlessly cumbersome.

  2. Being able to filter fighters directly from the matchmaking screen is great and helps a ton with matchmaking, especially with bigger companies (I'm currently at 770 fighters in my current game. UFC, eat your heart out.) Personally, my first step when booking any new show is to filter out all currently available fighters from that region, and start building from there.

Having said that, would it be possible to expand on the feature and be able to search fighters by home region and/or current game area in the matchmaking search itself, and not just fighters from the specific home region the event is taking place?

Being able to filter by home region would help in booking fighters from a general geographic region. I'll use the US as an example since it's the only game area broken down into 50 regions in-game, but let's say I'm running a Massachussetts show and want to stock it with New England fighters, which is pretty typical and common real world, then the ability to filter fighters not just from MA but from CT, ME, RI, VT, etc. as well would help tremendously.

Being able to filter by game area would help in a similar way, obviously, but given the lack of non-US home regions I'd imagine it'd be a more useful option for non-US shows. IE: would be great to look up all Australia/NZ-based fighters in one go rather than just New South Wales-based fighters for my Sydney show, or all Japan-based fighters rather than just Kanto-based fighters for my Tokyo show, etc.

As of now, the only options are to scroll through all available fighters to see their home region, or cycle back and forth between the roster page and the matchmaking page in order to be able to filter out fighters by region/game area and then book them, both of which are less than ideal and super time consuming.

  3. Not sure if you saw my reply when you asked something similar in the Small Questions thread a couple of weeks ago. I've copied it below in case you missed it.

If you're looking for more non-fighter renders, go to the link below (The Weidt Files) and download the "WMMA 2 - Fresh Start Complete" legacy file. If you search through the Bodies (and corresponding Faces) folders, you'll find lots of non-fighter renders that were used in previous games but no longer appear in WMMA 5. Most of them are of a good enough standard to be allocated to non-fighters in new games.

    Link's not working

  4. No, it's very literal - it means the game couldn't generate a valid name for the character. It means either there's a lack of first name / surnames for that area / gender and it can no longer come up with unique names.

I guess my confusion here stems from the fact that the game doesn't seem to have any problem re-generating reskins from retired characters at the beginning of each month.

But thanks for the clarification. Guess it's time to create a new list of names and import 'em in.

  5. Is there anyway for me to add a custom fighter in the middle of a save? Can't seem to find the ones the game generates when I tell it to.

You have an option of adding an underscore at the beginning of the newly generated fighters's names. Do that so you can easily find them, then just go into the in-game editor and edit out the underscore.

And speaking of generating fighters, is there any way to get past the "Unfortunately no fighters could be created due to a lack of valid names" error when trying to populate fighters? Is that code for there's no more free pictures available to generate the fighters with?

  6. Sort of.

It's based on WECNeverDie's mod, which stays pretty good up until about 2013 or so I'd say.

My absolute dream is that someone puts in the work to make a mod that starts in the 90's and is true to life all the way to 2019 and beyond. Would probably entail adding 100s of more fighters...

I redneck engineer'd something like this by merging the latest update with a 2001 game I was playing. There's a bunch of problems that require constant in-game editing just to keep it somewhat balanced/playable (and make sure to edit the modern database to bring back all of the retired fighters/set their records to 0, etc), but it's a great head start. At the very least, you get most modern fighters.. granted they're at their current level, for better or worse.

  11. While I agree with everything you said I also have to say that I hope that any future WMMA games continue to be more in depth to improve game quality. The game has room for improvement and instead of being simplified to increase interest I think that the mod maker should be the only thing that's made easy or simplified and that the game itself continues to grow.

How does one simplify the mod maker without simplifying the game?

  12. I think with WMMA, you have a smaller fan base and the vast majority of those are UFC/Strikeforce fans, maybe a decent number follow Bellator. In order to create a solid MMA mod, you kind of have to follow everything. Getting those stats right seems much more important in regards to MMA than pro wrestling. Also, in TEW you don't have to update records, fight histories, and momentum for every wrestler on an update-to-update basis.

I like to think I have a pretty good grasp on MMA outside of ZUFFA/Bellator, which is kind of why I'm throwing my hat in if anybody else is willing to come and help create a new mod.

I could handle a good chunk of MFC, DREAM, KOTC, Tapachi, M-1, Shark Fights, BAMMA, etc.

  13. I'm also kind of anti-team in this instance. You end up with too many guys stepping on each others' toes and even if they don't, stats will be out of whack simply because they're coming from different people. I'm too much of a perfectionist.

Yeah, that'll definitely be an issue, but I'm hopeful that with continued iterations, everything will eventually coalesce into using similar metrics as long as whoever is behind the updates keep the lines of communication open and mod on good faith.

I just think it's a little ridiculous that the WMMA mod scene is so dire, when games like TEW have basically every possible scenario you can think of available to be played.

  14. Mine tend to do alright with fan feedback. I mean, I don't deny fighter popularity needs work (neither does Tag, he's said numerous times it's a work in progress), but still.

I prefer MW's to TOS's popularity system, since TOS considers any match between a pair of middling fighters worthy of main eventing your biggest of shows. I understand why TOS went the way they did, though, I just simply prefer MW's system of exclusively; it seems more realistic to me - the fighters need to be big stars (high level national/low level international at least IIRC) and coming off of a victory, which is more or the less as it is in real life.

Speaking of TOS, what happened? They haven't had an update in months, have they? Seems to me like we as a community should come together and start coming out with a data set of our own; seems unfair for everybody to have to rely on Tag. Anybody interested?

  15. I do that already, but it takes much longer than 15 minutes and it's nowhere near as good as a complete update. Moving people around, adjusting win/loss, adding fight histories, and adjusting stats alone takes awhile. Then you throw in adding new people who often times I haven't seen before, adjusting contracts/popularity if you want to be ambitious. I do not envy Tag doing all that and more alone.

I work at crack speeds, dawg.
