    Yeah, I kinda realised I was "Manchester United-ing" it a bit with the Steelers (picking one of the most successful teams), but I didn't care because A, I didn't pick them for their winning record and B, it'd make a nice change if ONE of my sports teams finally won something. :p

    That reminds me of another question I forgot to ask; who 'leads' the defence? Is there a position responsible for calling audibles and adjustments to defence on the field? Or does that vary from team to team depending on the experience of the players etc?

     

    It is normally the Middle Linebacker or another Linebacker and sometimes a safety will make calls too.

    So I've decided to give the NFL another go, now that I have a proper team to follow (Steelers, for the same reasons I follow the Pirates in baseball). I've got Madden 15, and have been learning the game that way. Pretty fun so far.

     

    The last time I watched NFL was back in 2000ish and I didn't really understand what was going on. I'm starting to understand now, looking forward to the new season when I can get to know the players and such.

     

    With that said, could anyone give me a quick rundown on the Steelers? What're we good at, what's our team looking like? How'd we do in the draft, etc?

     

    So far I've gathered from watching clips and asking people that we're a long-passing team without much of a running game who recently aquired a badass running back but usually pass to him. Roethlisberger is hard to spell but amazing at passing, and is built like a linebacker so sometimes doesn't bother.

     

    Seems we have a bit of a sucky defence too.

     

     

    There's no minor league system for the NFL right? Players go straight from colleges onto NFL teams? I know roughly how a depth chart works... would first round draft picks usually expect to go straight into the starting spot on the team? They got drafted because they play somewhere a team needs improvement usually, right? I'm guessing later rounds would be further down the chart.

    The only other experience I have of sports drafts is baseball, where players will go into minor leagues, sometimes for several years, before the bigs. It feels weird for a guy you just drafted to be starting games the same year.

     

    Is there still a development system in Europe? I remember there being a Scottish Claymores team a few years ago.

     

    Basically my question boils down to, if you're drafted but aren't quite ready for the starting team yet, do you stay with the team and only get sporadic playing time, or is there somewhere else you go to get experience?

     

     

    Boo steelers suck. lol I'm a Big Bengals fan so i have to get on you for wanting to be a fan of theirs as those the Steelers and Bengals are rivials.

    i am Screen Name Wrath_Of_Sithis, you might see me online but if a game or app isn't running i am not at the tv i have my PS4 on almost all the time because i remote play with my vita and Android phone alot when i am not at home

    You're delusional if you think you're one draft away from being "feared". Take a look at who's in your division. Do you really think you're just one draft away from being better than those teams? By the end of the season you're looking at third place and your defense won't be in the top five maybe not in the top ten by the end of the year. Don't get excited when we're not even out of October yet and it sounds like you're saying you're just a RB, a CB and an Oline away from getting to the Super Bowl. Every team is just that ONE player away. You're a Bengal its not happening. I would have figured Bengals fans would have accepted their place in the league long ago.

     

    The Steelers and the Ravens Def are getting old alot of there Star Def players of 30+ years old on the bengals def only a few are over the age of 26. The bengals have one of the best and Deepest Def of lines in the NFL. When we are getting sacks and hits on the QB only rushing 4 i call that a great Def lines. The Steeler Def is getting weak they use to never let a person get a 100 years on them now they have lets a few in the last 2 years. Since Big Ben has been your QB every year you go to the Superbowl the then year you guys don't even make the playoffs.

    NFL rules state that if Cincinatti doesn't release or trade Palmer this year...he will be a free agent next season...why why why why why would the Raiders trade two first round picks for Palmer?

     

    Guess it's better than your whole draft for Ricky Williams...barely

     

    Oh well, as a Steelers fan I can be comforted by the fact the Bengals will screw up the picks as bad as the Raiders would have :D

     

     

     

    (Edit: As I type this, ESPN is reporting that the Raiders have acquired Palmer from the Bengals)

     

    Have you seen last three drafts we have had one of top drafts for the last three years. We had some really greats and that is mostly because Mike Brown isn't picking the guys anymore he is letting the coaches pick the people that will fit our system. That is why we are 4-2 and have the number 2 defense this year. an the picks with got Chad. and the pick we might get for JJ. We can improve our O-line get a stud CB and RB and we will be one of the most feared teams in the NFL
