Hansen as champion despite the "minor tension"<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> brewing was great just great matches with Slaughter, Blackwell,etc and his constant abuse of Larry Nelson was highlight.</p>

I got into wrestling with the AWA probably 81ish(I watched during the mid 70s Shire's stuff out of San Francisco, Moon Dog Mayne and those guys but it wasn't on tv very long as a recall)I really took to the AWA with Ventura,Heenan, Patera, the High Flyers, etc eventually I watched Georgia just after the name change but since cable hadn't made it's in roads yet Georgia viewing was sporadic. I have never been a big WWF fan(I first saw it with Graham destroying the belt and Backlund getting weepy). 84-85 were good years with the Road Warriors, Jimmy Garvin, Freebirds(Verne really screwed the pooch with the mis-use of the Fabulous Ones according to Steve Keirn it was another case of Verne not getting their gimmick), Gino Hernandez even put in a guest appearance and they hyped him coming into the company at house show. 86 was interesting, Hansen as champion was awesome, David Sammartino had the best match he's ever had against Stan and just got the bejeezus beat out of him, his interactions with Larry Nelson were hilarious to me. 87 to mid 88 was probably their last solid period with the Rockers, Hennig, Adonis, the Original Midnight Express. When they got the Rock N Roll Express they probably could of used that has a re-start if the money was there and Ricky Morton's problems with Verne leading to Robert working with Greg Gagne instead(as much as I liked Greg and think he tends to get a raw deal as far as his ability to work in the ring and behind the mic nobody really wants to see that combination especially 89) Toward the end though they relied alot on Eddie Sharkey trainees like Tommy Jammer and the Top Guns. DeBeers gimmick was only going to last for so long(shocked Verne went with it and it lasted as long but Easy Ed was very good if a bit lazy in the ring) Toward the end even as their production values got worse(if that was possible with the green screening) I liked the Texas Hangmen, the Tokyo Bullets, Scott Norton and the Destruction Crew. Only so much you can do when you're drawing 400-500 people to a show.

Yeah this doesn't make me feel older then I already am. This is a company in it's death throes, it's lost Curt Hennig, Shawn Michaels,Marty Janetty to the WWF, had what were at one point pretty big names(Nikita Koloff, Tully Blanchard, Magnificent Muraco) show up for a short period but leave just as quickly, an absolutely horrendous partnering with Jerry Jarrett out of Memphis/Dallas(USWA), the Superclash 3 debacle. Zbyszko was never going to be a huge draw, Slaughter was probably the last "big name" they had at this point. Watch a few youtube videos from each year 83/84/85/86/87/88/89/90 just to see how much it changed and fell by the wayside.

Backlund soon left and headed to the Central States territory and picked up the Missouri Heavyweight title) </p><p> </p><p> <strong>WWF Tag Team Champions:Crippler Ray Stevens/Superfly Jimmy Snuka</strong>(Defeated Jay/Jules Strongbow on television back at the end of July. Jules is now teaming with David Sammartino and Jay is just floating around working with whoever)</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Intercontinental Champion:Mr.USA Tony Atlas</strong>(won a tournament defeating Big John Studd in the final round. Through My Eyes??? Through My Eyes-The Private Diaries of Vincent Russo For better or worse one of the most polarizing figures in all of the history of professional wrestling is Vincent James Russo.Training with the legendary Johnny Rodz, Russo entered the sport being hired as a freelance writer by the then WWF for their WWF Raw Magazine, Vince parlayed that opportunity to join the WWF's creative team when the company itself was at the lowest of it's lows getting horrible ratings, live shows drawing less and less. Russo took the WWF product from kid oriented cartoon like presentation to a more adult themed, harder edged product. It took time but eventually the WWF recovered while Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling riding high for almost 2 years seemed to make mistake after mistake and being the behemoth of company with layers and layers of bureaucracy making it virtual impossible for WCW to right itself with any speed or sense of urgency began to flounder. In what many considered a desperate move WCW made an offer to Vince Russo and his writing partner Ed Ferrera. Limited by Time Warner(parent company of WCW)Standards and Practices as well as those who thought pro wrassling being too low brow for their company Russo had an almost impossible taskt, to try and make WCW relevant and successful against his former boss Vince McMahon and the WWF. With the bigger than life egos, talent all jockeying to “keep their spots”, with the big name talent invoking their “creative clauses” to kibosh any attempt made to push younger, hungrier talent it was beyond an uphill battle. Eventually Russo was fired, rehired and then fired again as WCW went on the auction block and was picked up for pocket change dug from the couch by none other than Vince McMahon owner and arch nemesis of WCW. It seems that if this issue is causing so much consternation among a few readers then a solution might be to just create a "hype" thread(possibly stickied) for just such a purpose. Those who want can look those who don't can avoid such things. I get about trying too hard, I never did a preview of my diary, don't promote it at all but not everyone is like that. Some just want as many eyes as possible to at least take a look. Yeah it can get to be a bit much but it's no different to me than constantly asking for predictions, you want some level of interaction whether it's views,predictions, a comment here and there. I guess I don't see a 5 line post in 3 different sections that big a deal but that's just me.

It takes me anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to post just due to the editing of the text and pics(which I thought was needed to break up the "wall of text"syndrome)even with stuff typed up it never dawned on me to eliminate some of the more laborious tasks . Being relatively new to doing a diary, views would be but replies help with motivation and I think for a lot of newcomers who are giving it their first shot it helps to know what's working and what's not as they try and find their voice.
