It's important to remember that skills change and develop as you play. I had a ROUGH start to my save with WWE due to everyone's stats, but I powered through it and am now 4 years deep and have developed some of these guys (and even some midcard guys who never got a big break in reality) into proper main event mega stars. Most of the fun with this mod for me has been having to actually think about where on a card and who I should book people against if I want them to get better. I'd lost that touch playing CV or other mods where it was much easier to just cheese ratings and become unbeatable.

By far my favorite real world mod; and glad I've been able to give Mammoth some help with a couple workers here or there or shouted out names for him to add to the database. (Thank you so much for adding Jamie 😝!)

Any chance you can show a screengrab of one of your top stars currently? Would love to see how stats and pop have developed?

    First 100 rated segment!!

  2. Have just started up a game with this and although only a couple of weeks in, its pretty enjoyable. Suitably challenging I would say, which sort of matches the era.

Excellent explanations of where stats are at above aswell, just going through them now and updating in game .

I would add though in terms of updates, Jeff Hardy was signed to TNA at the start of 2006 but was suspended

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING: NEW YEARS REVOLUTION

    SUNDAY, WEEK 4, JANUARY 2001

Held in LA LSU Assembly Centre (South East)

    Attendance = 14203

With the Pyro still ringing around the arena, Eric Bischoff makes his way out to the ring as the announce team of Mike Tenay and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan welcome the viewers to the first PPV of a new era in WCW.

    image.jpeg.73af71c8974fc863a1eda6d5d93b8b9c.jpeg image.jpeg.572fa169457148a54d6237aac818129a.jpeg

Bischoff gets on the mic welcoming the audience in attendance and the viewers at home to a new dawn, as he looks to right the wrongs of the last few years that all but killed this once great company and confidently professes that there is no one better placed to rebuild than the man who nearly put WWF out of business just a few short years ago!.... Ric Flairs music hits as the Nature Boy strides to the ring, and the CEO of WCW begins berating the owner, blaming Bischoff for the downfall of a company that Flair had dedicated most of his life to!

An irate Bischoff reminded Flair that he was the CEO when the company all but died and needed his intervention to rescue it and therefore as outright owner, the Nature Boy would no longer be continuing in his position of CEO, un beknown to Flair, he is flanked by security at the beckon of Bischoff who proceeds to inform Ric Flair that his services in WCW are NO LONGER REQUIRED!

Flair attempts to jump Bischoff but security manage to restrain Naitch, with Bischoff ordering them to remove Flair from the building

Backstage, Tag Team Champions, The Insiders (Kevin Nash and DDP) are interviewed by Gene Okerlund ahead of their Title Match with the Natural Born Thrillers. Rather than discuss the forthcoming match, DDP takes the time to welcome back his wife..... Kimberley Page, who will accompany the Champs to the ring tonight!

    image.jpeg.b48acbd2528719e38e71b57ef0dc4480.jpeg image.jpeg.31c9e18b7e986389cd48a190ea977cf3.jpeg image.jpeg.68a23bee910219d31fd2c915ca4f9f4e.jpeg image.jpeg.aac72efdd456c5468456ec86b09a0bd0.jpeg

The first match of the night will be a 20 Man Over the Top Battle Royal to determine to number one contender for the US Title currently held by General Rection

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas is out first and cuts a promo guaranteeing victory as he looks to continue his feud with Rection and his MIA faction, however he is interrupted by the music of the debuting ROB VAN DAM! Tenay informs the viewers that WCW fought off competition from the lieks of WWF to secure the signature of RVD, as the ring fills with participants:

(Alex Wright, Bam Bam Bigelow, Brian Adams, Bryan Clark, Kanyon, Disco Inferno, Ron & Don Harris, Ernest Miller, Sgt AWOL, Jim Duggan, Jimmy Yang, Kaz Hayashi, Rick Steiner, Shannon Moore, Norman Smiley, Dustin Rhodes and another new signing Jerry Lynn).

As the match reached a conclusion, General Rection ran interference allowing Rob Van Dam to eliminate Shane Douglas over the top rope, however RVD fell victim to a chair shot from Kanyon to topple him out of the ring, with Kanyon victorious and No 1 Contender.

Backstage, Mike Sanders finally revealed which two members of the Natural Born Thrillers would challenge Nash and DDP for the Tag Team Titles, as he introduces Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire

Flanked at ringside by Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak, the whole arena was left in shock when Kevin Nash turned on Diamond Dallas Page and left him at the mercy of Palumbo and O'Haire, with the latter finishing the match in 10:51, pinning DDP to become the New Tag Team Champions

    image.jpeg.744e757bc1f5fc487902dbdf1694e6f2.jpeg

Totally Buff (Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell) cut a Narcissistic Promo ahead of their forthcoming Tag Match against Goldberg and The Sarge

Chavo Guerrero Jr successfully retained the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Shane Helms when he illegally used the ropes to assist his pin

The cameras pan backstage to Gene Okerlund who has Ric Flair on the phone following his removal from the building, Flair intends to fight his dismissal, but promises a big surprise in the Main Event tonight as his final act as CEO. Eric Bischoff interrupts Okerlund and threatens his job and anyone in the production truck who allowed Flair to make contact!

Goldberg and Sarge ran out winners in their Tag Team Match with Totally Buff, Goldberg hitting Bagwell with a spear following by the Jackhammer to get the 1,2,3 in 7 minutes 32

Sid Vicious was interviewed by Gene Okerlund backstage ahead of the Main Event which sees him challenge Jeff Jarrett and WCW Champion Scott Steiner in a Triple Threat Match, Sid came up short back at Starrcade 2000 but promises this will not be the case again despite Jarrett and Steiner plotting to work together in the Match

    image.jpeg.0232ac580e515456fc15001099a86882.jpeg

Crowbar was successful in winning the WCW Hardcore Title in the next match pinning Champion Terry Funk in a Hardcore Triple Threat also involving Meng

Backstage, Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett discuss Sid Vicious, with Steiner concerned about Flair's comments earlier. Jarrett reminds Steiner that he won the No 1 Contender bout back before Xmas to allow them to work together against Sid, who Flair inserted into the match, and nothing Nature Boy can do now will harm the Genetic Freaks chances of retaining

In the penultimate match, The Filthy Animals (Rey Mysterio Jr, Billy Kidman and Konnan) were victors over Team Canada (Lance Storm, Mike Awesome and Elix Skipper). Mysterio with the pin on Skipper following a distraction by Torrie Wilson, who had accompanied Kidman to ringside

Back in his office, Eric Bischoff settles in for the Main Event as he is joined by Stacy Kiebler, convinced he has heard the last of Ric Flair, until.........

    image.jpeg.7fcc19e71d3618014285c042c91a38e8.jpeg

THE NATURE BOY appears on screen!

Naitch frantically announces that his final act as CEO of WCW, was to sign off on the Main Event, making it a Fatal 4 Way, and introduces.........

    STING!!!!!

    image.jpeg.be17a125a95f88852fb991c820c39104.jpeg

Tenay and Heenan are adamant that Stinger must be the mystery man who had been attacking Steiner in the weeks prior to the shutdown of WCW, in an act of revenge for Big Poppa Pump injuring him back in November 2000.

As the Fatal 4 Way went on however, the Masked Man appeared and attacked Sting, with the two battling up the ramp. As they disappeared out of sight, Jarrett attempted to take out Sid Vicious with a guitar shot, but Sid countered and power bombed Jarrett, with Double J down and out, Sid went for the pin but Steiner had obtained the guitar and broke up the pin with a vicious shot to the back, and rolled Vicious over to make the pin and retain the title!

    image.jpeg.829e19c356912ba08ed488c048929686.jpeg

Steiner's celebrations were cut short by a returning Booker T, who appeared on the stage and informed Steiner that he was back and invoking his rematch clause having lost the title back at Mayhem in November 2000

Please tell me your gonna fire Hogan and hall? Sid will have to leave too cause of his leg injury, meng's gonna debut at the royal rumble and Macho Man retired the year before. Will Jeff Jarrett stick around this time now that mcmahon can't fire him? Can his father Jerry join wcw's booking committee?

Hall isn't with the company, Hogan is but is out for the first 3 months due to legal reasons. From what I can decipher, he was still being paid by WCW and had Bischoff taken over, its highly likely he would have been brought back.

I've started the dynasty before the PPV where Sid Viciously broke his leg. Meng is on a Handshake deal so available if anyone wants him

  5. Breaking Kayfabe for a moment just to give a little info on the "Challenge".

Firstly, the MOD is a conversion of Lucas' TEW16 New Blood Rising MOD, I believe there were two versions, one starting in Jan 2001 (this) and one in May as a WCW LIves by Genadi and the MOD Squad. I have updated the majority of the main Workers attributes as well as importing Venues and Broadcasters and doing a little work on them to make the game more enjoyable to play for myself.

This dynasty is based on the "What if" Bischoff got the deal over the line. Having listened to a number of interviews and Podcasts, the main reason it failed was due to no TV, so I've taken a little creative license in a deal with FX, who were one of the rumoured potential broadcasters.

However, rather than just a standard WCW Lives game, I wanted to accurately reflect things at that time. WCW were never going to rise immediately from the ashes and become a force straight away, so I have edited the finances to start $7.5 million in debt. I landed on this figure as its double the amount of the rumoured fee WWF paid to purchase WCW, so to tie in with the story,  figure this fee would seal the purchase ahead of time.

    image.jpeg.9959a129b41ee043e0140089ce510a2a.jpeg

The TV deal is a late night deal, so viewership and subsequently income is not going to be massive, and the first aim to try and raise Popularity... FAST!

This will open up the possibility of better broadcast deals for both TV and PPV and increase income, though in the initial months I expect to lose money.

Mostly due to Contracts, I have done a little editing based on information found online regarding the WCW contract situation in 2001, I have posted the Roster above, though that doesn't really tell the full story as most contracts have TV/PPV bonuses which will initially be debilitating.

I have also amended Merchandise down to Growing Business (Spoiler, in the first month this made me $50k). Due to the fast acquisition it's very reasonable that Fusient would be in a position where they are unable to make the most of Merchandising in the early stages. It will take around 25 weeks to reach the next level and improve income from this.

In an interview immediately following the purchase, Eric Bischoff mentioned that the original idea for the relaunch of the company was to go dark until May 2001.

Due to the financial strain of taking over the Time Warner contracts however, WCW are required to return to almost immediate broadcasting, beginning with the PPV "New Years Revolution" on Sunday, Week 4 of January.

It was also announce that the Power Plant facilities had been sold in an attempt to finance the debt accrued from purchasing WCW.

    image.jpeg.bb53cc30a08fcec7cfece4cce6b592e8.jpeg

A deal has been completed with Cable Commercial Channel FX to broadcast "Monday Nitro" in a late night slot starting Monday, Week 1 February.

On Monday Week 3 of January, it was finally confirmed that the purchase of World Championship Wrestling had been completed by Fusient Media Ventures.

The acquisition of WCW is believed to be to the sum of $7.5 million, which will be offset against the company. The figure to secure the purchase is believed to be much reduced following the announcement that no Broadcasting Deals are included, however does commit the buyer to taking on all contracts associated with WCW, including that of Hulk Hogan, who remains under contract but absent from the business due to an ongoing defamation of character lawsuit, following the incidents at WCW's Bash at the Beach back in July 2000.

As the year 2000 drew to a close, rumours continued to circulate of Time Warner's intention to sell World Championship Wrestling.

Eric Bischoff emerged as the leading contender to purchase the failing company, backed by Fusient Media Partners, Brian Bedol and Stephen Greenberg.

WCW Monday Nitro was pre-empted on Monday 1st January 2001, however when the Wednesday 3rd January edition of WCW Thunder was cancelled at the last minute, fans feared the end of the once great promotion.

After a 7 day period of silence Time Warner released an official statement regarding the pending sale........

    image.jpeg.3e6d148462afc08c9df796caf915a365.jpeg

Despite originally stating that Time Warner would continue to broadcast WCW programming, a further statement from TBS CEO Jamie Kellner confirmed that with immediate effect all WCW events and shows had been removed from the network putting the agreed sale to Fusient Media Ventures in doubt.

Dont expect any updates for the reason I stated. Weirdly though, I opened the data just 2-days ago for the first time in 6-some odd months and added 2-or-3 workers because I was bored.

The "worst" part of the data is the Broadcasters, and I really just have no interest in working on them at the moment or foreseable future. Besides that, I do consider the data "done" and any other updates are simply things I've felt like adding. If someone wants to redo broadcasters or find me a "Free to import" work done by someone else, please feel free to help. (same with Arenas)

My goal with the data was to be able to play about 10-years. Thats 9-years longer then I think most saves go. Ultimately 97% of the major players in real-life WWE through the Ruthless Aggression & PG Era (2018 or so), are in the data (except all the divas) and 80% of the major indy guys for that period are there too.

I'd be happy to help out in any way. Absolutely love this time period and the possibilities available

  10. Is anybody able to create or point me in the direction of a WCW logo for a 2001 dynasty I'm wanting to run where Fusient Media purchased the company with Bischoff in charge

Thinking something along the lines of phoenix rising from the flames (think the Nitro logo colour wise). No preference on the font, though I'm not adverse to the font the WCW logo normally was but sharper than it appears in old logos.

If at all possible applying a similar theme to a Monday Nitro Logo and Thunder (but with blue and white/grey colours?)

And maybe even PPV's (though not a necessity, but I would be forever grateful):

    New Years Revolution
    Superbrawl
    Greed
    Spring Stampede
    No Surrender
    Great American Bash
    Bash at the Beach
    Sin
    Fall Brawl
    Halloween Havoc
    Lockdown
    Starrcade
    King of the Mountain
    Souled Out
    Mayhem
    Slamboree
    Uncensored
    Turning Point
    Genesis
    Against All Odds
    Unbreakable
    Night of Champions

It can be a daunting task making a modification from scratch, so feel free to use my 2006 modification (Click Here) as a base if you'd prefer. It should make life a lot easier.

For finding rosters, I find Wrestling Data the easiest to navigate, personally. If you search for a certain promotion, you can click "Roster" and then filter it to your required timeframes. So for example, you can see here the roster for World Wrestling Entertainment in January, 2007. You'll still need to go through it properly to remove jobbers who were just making a one off appearance and you'll have to do further research for injured workers and such like, but I find it the best way to give you a general overlook of the roster at the time.

Best of luck with this. It's a difficult task but it can be really rewarding. 👍

Have always wondered where MOD makers find Contract information from? More lengths rather than amounts, any tips for this? Many Thanks

WWF PPVs weren't on Sky Box Office in the UK at this point; they were still on Sky Sports. (Other than the UK events.) The switch to Sky Box Office didn't come about until after 2000/01, and even then it was initially just some of the shows.

I know they were on Channel 4 during 2000, will get this changed, do  you know which channel? 1, 2 or 3?

  13. Data: https://www.mediafire.com/file/v0z886my65qese9/TEW2020.mdb/file

Done a little editing to try and adjust the finances

    Merchandise:

WWF - Changed from Enviable to Comprehensive
WCW - Changed from Industrial to Growing Business

    Broadcast Deals:

WCW/TW - Changed to Prime Time from On Demand and lowered from 100% to 50% split (Seems to have worked)
WWF/DTV - Changed to Prime Time (This has doubled the amount of income)

Changed DirecTV coverage in USA from Enormous to Medium and changed split from 30% to 50% for WWF deal (Doesn't make nearly as much now).

WWFRaw/TSN - Changed from Prime Time to Late Evening/Contract lowered from 3 to 1 year
WWFRaw/Sky - Changed to Late Night from Late Evening and amended to Sky Box Office rather than Sky Sports 1

Changed Sky Box Office coverage in UK to Medium from Big

    WWF:
    Production Values lowered to Professional
    Live Event to Large
    Broadcast Quality to In House
    Music: Minor Licensed

WWF still make a profit but not as much as they were doing previously, makes it more of a challenge as it was at the time but no threat of going under (which is good, as they didn't!). WCW still make millions but only half as much as they were doing, which is still a lot!

A couple of updates to attributes for the following:

Ric Flair - Changed to Insecure (from Professional) and added Golden Mane
Booker T - Added Chequered Past
Kurt Angle - Added Plays Comedy Well, Plays Weasely/Underdog Well (Not sure on this?) and can't play Mysterious/Occult and Offbeat/Unstable

Due to work commitments in the pandemic etc I brekky have time to look at the forum never mind mod..I will throw it out there that this is very playable just needs more future workers and tweaks of any errors etc..I would be happy if someone else wanted to take over as I have no idea when and if I'd get time to work on this more

Hoping this still stands as I've made a couple of adjustments based on my own playing of the game and a couple of suggestions on this thread.

Have named the update version 0.6 as would rather continue the excellent work of @forlan than take any credit, just simply want to see a continuation of perhaps one of the best MOD's for TEW20

    Changes:

WWF Popularity lowered in all game areas by 10. WWF were pulling crowds of 15000 previously at Knickerbocker Arena where as in real life they only managed 7000ish at the end of December 1996, so lowered Tri State to bring that down and all other areas in line. This has reduced WWF size to Medium and also made them 2nd in the world now, which seems more accurate behind WCW.

Vince, Steph, Shane McMahon – All have occasional Wrestler enabled now and can be ticked when playing as WWF

A few didn't have defined roles in WWF so have done the following:

    Vince Russo – Road Agent

    Howark Finkel – Announcer

    JC Ice & Wolfie D – Wrestlers

Linda McMahon – On Screen Personality

I will probably take a look at attributes of some of the main stars as @forlan did previously ask for suggestions, so it's possibly not an area of the MOD that was covered in depth, I will go back through the thread and look at some of the suggestions but for starters:

Rocky Maivia – Prodigy added to attributes (Hidden). In the save I had that reached 1999, Rock capped his pop at 82. His Star Quality seemed to peak at 84 which may be the reason for the cap, so have added this attribute to see if it gives him the boost he had irl.

Shawn Michaels – It’s who you know. Though it didn't occur until towards the end of 1997, HBK put Triple H over by lying down for the European Title. Added this attribute and HBK will accept losing to Triple from the off and anyone else he has a positive relationship with which is..... no one else within WWF at the time.

Triple H - Have adjusted and added attributes based on @Peter.1986 comments regarding him being a positive influence backstage.

    image.png.3a06ead7c4fda65c4f24a886fe01cb08.png

Changed to Driven which has removed his positive influence, Egomaniac or Bully seemed appropriate for future years but at this time after the curtain call, he seemed to just get his head down and be focused on rebuilding his career, added Political Player to imitate the issues with Rock?

Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy Gimmicks, set both to Backyarder (Legitimate). Both were still jobbing around this time and not really stealing the show yet, but gimmicks have been set as Established and at Average, so can be changed if wanting to push them.

EWA World Heavyweight Title – Set to Retired as didn’t become active until September 1997, also set start date of vacant reign to Jan 1997

If anyone has a go with this data please let me know how you get on and open to suggestions for any further changes, though I do want to be respectful of the original data

I haven't tested this so it might not work at all, but you could always add in a fake broadcaster tied to Time Warner with unusably high requirements that is set to close in April. They'd then be left with no broadcasters, forcing them to close, which would take WCW down with it at the correct time.

I don't know if setting it up that way will make it so they're able to be bought out though, they need to be in debt for a really long time for that to happen afaik. Effectively you could then sign up everybody that gets cut adrift upon their closure but you'd risk getting in a bidding war with NJPW or whoever

So what I've done is create duplicate broadcasters TNN and TBS to both become active owned by the Media Group AOL/Time Warner from April 2001 with the original broadcasters closing March 2001, thus making the original Time Warner Media Group also close as well as WCW...

Just to add on to this, from what I've seen: you can buy out a company once they've been in debt for three consecutive months (as calculated at month's end). So if you start a game in January with WCW in major debt (and losing money ideally), you should be able to buy them out on April 1 as long as Time Warner doesn't shut them down first.

So if you try this method, maybe set the fake broadcaster to close in May/June to be safe?

This happens with ECW, though its 2 weeks into April when they become buyable but WCW just hang on in there for over a year!

Thought it might be their size so lowered that but no change

You likely need to look at the closing date of Time Warner the broadcaster, not the media group of that name.

    Cheers Adam

Turns out the Media Groups were not assigned any broadcasters, and seems if this is the case come the end of the month the Media Group shuts down and subsequently the company it owns

  18. Anybody have any idea how I've done this?

I have been trying to update a 2001 MOD starting in January to force WCW to sell up (much the same as they did in real life)

Set them to be property of Time Warner (Broadcaster) and they now close at the end of January due to Time Warner ceasing trading (This has happened on 2 run throughs now).

When I look into the Media Group - Time Warner, there are no other details available to edit other than the name, as ideally I'd like to move their closure on a month or two?

  19. Some great advice in this thread!!

Just to add my thoughts and experience. I absolutely love Real Life Historic MOD's and especially around 2001, I'd just gotten into wrestling about two years earlier and 2001 marks a pivotal point where everything changed (much the same as territories back in the 80's, the emergence of WCW in the early 90's or start of the Monday Night Wars in 95)

The above point being that I like to use a point in history where I can take things a different way, that being said I often struggle to move away from what really happened but once you do get away from real life, its more easier to stay invested as things evolve differently. Due to injuries and scandals I had a WWF save starting in 1997, now in 99 and I have the Ministry of Darkness storyline, but Kurt Angle is the hero taking them on as Austin and Rock are out.

A 2001 save I started was to rescue WCW, this was probably the most success I had with a save going into it 3 years as it was a blank canvas, I had nothing to base my storylines on and found myself being more creative.

It's been mentioned but don't just get everyone as soon as you can, there's a temptation to rush through storylines and eventually they have all gone, plot them out over the years. In my 97 save, I put big moments I wanted to happen down over 3 or 4 years and could see them approaching as I moved through time and built up to them

    Any preferred method for contact?

Hey everyone, since I've been getting messages on this mod I just wanted to say:

I haven't worked on the mod since August (almost a year now 😅). I kinda fell out of love with TEW and even wrestling a little bit. I might get back to the mod at some point but I'm not sure when. But when I do you guys will know!

sorry to hear this, but completely understandable. I have periods when I get sick of playing TEW

I'd be happy to pick this up and update anything that is massively noticeable, with permission obviously?
