First of all, thank you Mammoth for the Shifting Sands mod that I will be using in this dynasty. Mammoth's Shifting Sands Mod Thread
From Mammoth's post itself: The World As We Know It
All that appears solid and substantial is built on the shifting sands of ceaseless transformation and unfortunately, the wrestling industry is no different. After World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fought off the challenge of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), things became a little stale but the sands of time never stay the same for too long and it seems there are some new challengers brewing. The biggest challenger is coming from the South with Jeff Jarrett's Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) snapping up some of the biggest names in professional wrestling but a promotion closer to home and named Ring of Honor (ROH) is also turning heads. With other promotions also earning a cult following and the WWE in the middle of a transition from stars of yesteryear to potential stars of the future, North America's torch has been lit.
Background
April 2001: The Birth of ROH - Pro wrestling video-distribution company RF Video needed a new promotion to lead its video sales when its best-seller – Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) – went out of business and WWE purchased its assets. RF Video also videotaped events held by other, less-popular, regional wrestling promotions; it sold these through its catalog and website. After months of trying to join Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), RF Video's owner, Rob Feinstein, decided to fill the ECW void by starting his own pro wrestling promotion, and distributing its made-for-DVD/VHS productions exclusively through RF Video.
Early Days: ROH quickly became an up and rising wrestling promotion, distinguishing itself by an in-ring performance product built around the Code Of Honor.
Early 2004: ROH's booker, Gabe Sapolsky, began to feel that the Code Of Honor has run its course. As a result, wrestlers no longer had to follow it.
March 2004: Following the Rob Feinstein's scandal, ROH's ownership eventually falls to Cary Silkin. Despite TNA ending its talent-sharing agreement with ROH, Silkin strives to branch out ROH across the world.
October 2005: Jim Cornette is signed as ROH Commissioner, in what many considered as a sign of hope for more good things to come.
December 2005: ROH faces more challenges as TNA tries to establish itself as a "true" competitor to the WWE, going on a hiring spree by offering exclusive contracts to the biggest names of the independent wrestling scene. 'The Monster' Abyss has already committed to TNA and will therefore not appear on the ROH Tag Wars 2006 card. ROH managers feel that unless they act and do it quickly, their top stars like Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe and others might also follow course.
January 2006: ROH makes huge announcements that could very well turn the tide in their favor. The company signed a TV deal with Telemundo to start airing weekly episodes of a new TV show that will start airing mid February. The company has also signed working agreements with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) that will allow them to share talent and hold supercards.
About Me and this Dynasty
I haven't written on this forum in a long time, but for those of you who know me and/or have read my first dynasty (TEW 2013), you might already know where I'm going... (yes I apologize to all ROH hardcore fans but I'm attempting to transform the promotion into a storyline-driven entertainment wrestling promotion). However, this time I want to try to find a balance between the soap opera part and the in-ring performance part.
My main bookings will be events, supercards, and house shows. ROH will not have weekly TV tapings. The purpose of the TV show that ROH just signed with Telemundo is to promote ROH across the US, and eventually the whole world, by showcasing its talent and promoting the feuds between the wrestlers. The weekly episodes will be like 65% angles - 35% matches ratio, and they will have no matches actually, but only highlights from matches that took place in a previous event.
I will start tomorrow by posting the starting storylines and the card for the first event, ROH Tag Wars 2006. Until then, thank you for reading and good night.
