WrestleManiac Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 What does prestige represent for different match types? I'm currently editing match types for a mod and what prestige actually does in-game as well as what makes a certain match more prestigious than another.
D-Lyrium Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 As far as I know, it has no actual effect on the match ratings, it's just a filter for human players to use. Matches like Hell in a Cell are more prestigious than Ladder matches, which in turn are more prestigious than regular matches. So if you wanted to end an epic feud with an appropriately epic match, you could filter for the most prestigious matches in the game and use one of them. Match prestige doesn't change, or affect/do anything at all as far as I know.
James Casey Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Basically, how much importance is attached to it. The most prestigious match in WWE, for example, is the Hell in a Cell match - it's used about once a year, and generally only to mark the end of a momentous feud. I'd also say that rarity comes into it. All gimmick matches lose prestige when overused, so I suppose it's possible that this could be affected by overuse - but I doubt that this was programmed into the game. Finally, match quality can affect prestige. If a match has a high % of great matches attached to it, that will raise its prestige - for example, the Ultimate X matches in TNA, and TLC matches in WWE. Something I'd like to see integrated in future versions of the game would be a match speciality attached to workers. I don't think that it could be done right now, but being able to say that, for example, Tommy Cornell thrives in submission matches, or that Jean Cattley is the master of Iron Man matches would be awesome. The way matches are set now, however, so that they are part of a genre (stunts, sets etc.) makes this unlikely.
Derek B Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 In terms of what they do do matches, a high prestige match can add to the overall rating of the match. As for what makes a match high prestige... I guess it's those matches that you want to pay money to see. Hell in a Cell has a lot of prestige because its treated as being special but hardcore matches are just throwaway these days and no-one really cares about it. If a stipulation makes you excited to see a match, I'd consider it to be prestigious in relation to your excitement. Obviously, regular matches (and probably hardcore these days) should have the lowest prestige... but when it comes to submissions only matches, or 2/3 falls matches, it's a hard call. I'd put them on the second lowest level prestige but it would be difficult since they are all still very ordinary matches. That's my take anyways, badly explained though it may be. Derek B
Blackman Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 But conrete they don't add anything to the match rating? It's weird since I think I noticed a slight increase. Could be wrong though. I always use 2 out of 3 falls matches (lucha libre) as a main event of a show.
Derek B Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 When I run high prestige matches instead of regular matches between two workers, I usually have a one grade (B- to B, for example) increase in the final match rating. Having run many, many matches between the same few pairs of workers, I suspect this borders on actual evidence for showing that high prestige matches improve the ratings of matches. Of course, most high prestige matches also tend to have a higher risk of injury too, which is often why the match prestige is actually higher in the first place. Although I haven't tested it in the game myself, I hypothesised that you could run a promotion with a very simple basic match (1 vs 1, standard rules) and simply up the match prestige in order to gain huge benefits as a promotion. With absolutely no added risk, I think it may be possible to cheat the game in that way to get at least 1 whole grade higher for every match you ever run. Benefits 1 - 0 Costs. At least, that was the theory. Haven't tested it myself. But certainly, from my own evidence so far, high match prestige boosts match ratings. Derek B
alden Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 here is a question for you.......can you over do it? Say you have a fed with a medium hardcore but you do all "hardcore" matches........you could be using very high prestigue matches but would it become over board at some point rating wise?
Jasx12 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Not that I have noticed, in my time with running barb wire matches in WEXXV
Remianen Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007
When I run high prestige matches instead of regular matches between two workers, I usually have a one grade (B- to B, for example) increase in the final match rating. I've run match after match after match with the same workers under controlled conditions (that is, duplicate a save 15 times and run the show the exact same way with the only difference being the match's prestige) and 1 grade seems to jibe with what I've seen bear out. So, a 'Very High' prestige match will grade out one grade higher than an 'Average' prestige match, generally.
Blackman Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Just like technical or hardcore matches take the mentioned skills into account more than their normal counterparts. But is it possible fans of a pure promotion may be put off by matches with too high an injury risk? (btw, while checking, a T&A-style match I saw had very high injury risk. )
Derek B Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Not a barbwire lingerie, acidic mudbath, bikini waxer on a pole match! ;)
Moe Hunter Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007
(btw, while checking, a T&A-style match I saw had very high injury risk. )
The FORC data has a buck naked match with High Injury, I assume to balance it out so it's not used very often...
Blackman Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Imagine one getting injured from it. What'd they do? Broke their nails?
Corey_Vandal Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007
Imagine one getting injured from it. What'd they do? Broke their nails?
Mat burn in a place you realy wouldnt want it? It would be good if you could have gender specific injuries, like ruptured implants (happened to Chyna). I added a couple of things like Testicular Torsion and Cheerleader Melissa ended up suffering from it.
James Casey Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007  Out of curiosity, does the prestige of a match affect show running costs? I'm assuming not - but ladders and cages and stuff should cost money, right?

Maybe something to implement for the next version, though I hope it doesn't end up like SvR's GM mode (50 grand for a Iron Match mode? It's not like it costs anything). It is indeed awkward some backyard promotion would 'rent' a Cell structure (similar to WWE's HiaC one) with a local steel merchant. :) It would prolly be a smaller Cell. Or you can assume this falls under random costs. :)
