James Casey Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Does the length of time between advance booking a match and the show it's on being held affect the hype for the match at all? Or is it just a case that events between the booking and the holding of the match will affect the heat?
infinitywpi Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 No effect. I've booked a match for next week's show and next year's show for the same pairing and they've gotten the same heat. The farther away you book it, tho, the more chances you have to build heat for it.
James Casey Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 That's what I figured. At one show a month, I shan't worry too much if I forget to do it for a few days :-) Thanks!
Derek B Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Advanced booked matches can increase and decrease in heat over time. I don't know exactly what affects the booking but I do know it definitely can change in 07, although it couldn't in 05. My evidence is my sole example of advanced booking, since I often forget to actually do it in advance. In my USPW, a promotion that is somehow being successful against the odds, I've got a match booked 1 month in advance between Bruce the Giant and Sam Strong. It started at B- but has increased to a B thanks to some highly rated angles. With their overness, I think I might even be able to pull it up to a B+ or an A by time I get to the PPV which should get me some kicking buy rates :) Derek B
James Casey Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 It actually just occured to me that with a lot of my workers having contracts elsewhere, it's theoretically possible that the heat for a match could increase just as a result of them becoming more popular through their other work. Again, though, this wouldn't have any effect on me, exactly, as I could book one day or one month before the show and the heat would be the same on show day.
Blackman Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I don't think they can become more popular through their other work since it's possible their characters are way different. Furthermore, you cannot assume people will also watch that other show. Given the extreme complex nature of heat increasement like this, I don't think any developer would imprement it this throughly in his game.
Moe Hunter Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 The only problem I have with advance booking, is that I can't promote matches for a weekly show two weeks in advance. If I book a match for a (TV) show, the fans will expect to see it on the next episode no matter what. I know it's quite rare for TV shows to have matches announced more than a week in advance, but it does happen. I recall Bischoff doing a tease for HBK vs Benoit or Triple H - can't remember which one, then said that a match that big on Raw would take two weeks to promote, so scheduled it for when they were in Washington D.C. and of course, the week in between they had the hype angles for it.
Remianen Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007
I don't think they can become more popular through their other work since it's possible their characters are way different.
You're putting way too much on it. Tell me, if say, Bulldozer Brandon Smith is working for SWF and MAW and works TV shows for SWF, will he not stand to gain more overness? Now, if any of SWF's shows are broadcast in the Mid Atlantic region, wouldn't that possibly impact Bulldozer's status in the Mid Atlantic region and thus, provide additional benefit for his MAW appearances? Yes, on both counts. 'Characters' don't have individual overness, workers do. So if Bulldozer is working as 'Whompy the Dancin Clown' in SWF, his overness increases still get assigned to....Bulldozer Brandon Smith. I believe that's what James Casey was referring to and he's right. A worker working for MAW and CZCW is bound to benefit MAW, especially if MAW runs a show in the South West. I don't know if it affects advance booking heat but I'd be inclined to think it does.
