Guys, particularly those with so much 'net knowledge; I have a friend of mine who is leaving work in a couple of weeks, and I know you can download music off the net, I'm just wondering where from, and what are the safest options. I want to do a CD for my friend as a farewell present. What say you? What sort of farewell songs can you think of?

I use Limewire. Here's a link for you. They have a free service which is slower and less secure, but ater 3 years using it I've never had problems. If you have a conscience and don't want to put a dent in the music industries multi-million dollar profits there is an option to pay them. :)

Hi buddy, thought I'd give you my knowledge/expertise. I did a similar thing for a friend, but put all photos of me and our group of mates (who date back to secondary school) and put them on a DVD with music in the background. In fact, I've now made two. To get the music, I used limewire, as it's free and it has almost anything you could want. However, I still think it may have been the thing that gave me a virus a few years back, but I can't be certain. Besides, a good anti-virus checker should sort you out. As for what songs, it really depends on tastes and any songs that have a private meaning between you. However, the songs I used were; "So Far Away" by Staind "Just The Way I'm Feeling" by Feeder "God Only Knows" by Beach Boys "My Sacrifice" by Creed "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall (an in joke about his poor eyesight) "Stay With You" by Goo Goo Dolls "Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye" (can't remember who it wa sby but it was in Dawson's Creek at one point) "Do You Want To?" by Franz Ferdinand "Jesus Christ" by Longpigs (an in joke about his religion, and besides, Longpigs rule) "Blurry" by Puddle Of Mudd "Seaside" by Kooks (during pictures of our seaside trip to Folkestone) "One More Day" by Supremo Gophero (one of my bands songs played during piccies of our band playing) "The Reason" by Hoobastank "It's Been A While" by Staind "Six Feet From The Edge" by Creed "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers "Lucky" by The Verve "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Oasis I think there were others but I can't really remember. I realise that these are mainly Brit bands or American Power Ballads, but the ballads seemed to fit and as a Brit it's only natural there was a lot of homegrown stuff. This probably didn't help, but I hope it did, if only to get the creative juices flowing.
i would buy that albumn, i have a couple of Creed albumns, there stuff is a little touchy, feely at times but there a good band.
Yeah. I have Weathered and it's pretty good. However, I've grown out of that style of music and gone back to Britpop. It makes me so sad as I loved the mid nineties.
Im a britpop fan myself. To be honest just about anything with drums and guitars in it is fine by me!
If you're a fan of britpop then I recemmend the Longpigs. They were a cult band from the mid-nineties who had a couple of top 20 songs but nothing huge. I absolutely love them at the moment, bought it on cassette all those years ago and recently bought the CD.
I have Weathered as well.. Oddly enough i think it was the WWE that made me buy it. All those videos with My Sacrifice played over it..
Yeah, I agree. They played it so much and those videos were so well made that I think that's why I bought it. Couldn't get away from the song at the time but, in its defence, it is a brilliant song.

he he, t'was my sacrafice that made me buy the albumn as well! I'm pretty sure i got another Creed albumn as a freebie when i opened a bank account too. I really liked 'six feet from the edge' as well, i think they must have all been U2 fans :D I did go through a period of being really into 'Nu Metal' at the time, these days the only time i ever really dust of the Limp Bizkit CD is to listen to 'my way' just before wrestlemania, makes me all nostalgic! EDIT: the music video that i used to love was the one they did for Mick Foley, no suprises there eh? But the one image from that vid that sticks with me is the fan dressed as mankind holding a banner saying i came to see Mick Foley, i kinda liked that!

http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s116/keefmoon/Videos/?action=view¤t=WWF-MickFoleyTribute.flv Man, I love that video. I miss those days, the 98/99/00 sort of time. Foley is my favourite wrestler ever, too. EDIT: Warning- it includes music which may come out loudly if you are at work. Besides, it's not the most "cool" music to be blurting out of your computer...

No problem. I love the vid too, that's why I downloaded a few months back, because I had an overwhelming urge to see it again. It's lucky I have the day off and have time to waste on uploading wrestling videos! Anything is better than decorating, I guess...

Then again, I teach Business, so I'm behind a computer most of the day. Especially around this sort of time when most classes are practising for GCSEs and AS/A Levels.

It's not any sort of romance though, just a good friend leaving, certainly wouldn't want to give the wrong impression. I was thinking more along the lines of that song they brought out around 2000 for school leavers, friends forever? That sort of thing. Thanks for the help.

My friends get the sentimentality of leaving the country so these sappy songs worked a treat. Along with piccies of our childhood and those songs, there wasn't a dry eye in the house! :p

Cool dude, my niece does them for us when there's something in the family - death etc. Definite tear jerkers with the old photos and the rememberance songs etc. This one is my assistant who is leaving, and we're both married so I don't want to give the wrong impression :D You know how these things can look, and it definitely ain't meant to be like that. Keefy, you teach Business? Man, I'm doing a business degree at the moment, do you teach a fair bit of accounting? I'm really struggling with the concept of diminishing return depreciation - I understand why, that's cool and I think it's a good system for why it was construed, but the formula and how to calculate has me beat...

They work a treat for my mates, but your situation is different. Having done a business degree, I can officially say that I suck at accounting. I struggled like you would not believe. However, as I teach GCSE and A Level students, my accounting knowledge doesn't have to be too good. Probably the biggest step from A-Level business to degree level business is in accounting. I can do (and teach) the basics, and enough for the kids to learn, but I'm afraid it's been several years since I did it at degree and I wouldn't be much help to you, unfortunately. My specialities are marketing, international business and human resources.
Also, I see you have the Who in your avatar now - wicked. The Who rocked.
Oh hell yeah! Obviously, I'm a huge fan of them, particularly "The Moon". I play drums and I wish I could play like him; in as much that he could virtually make it up as he went along, not have the same fill twice in a row but still have it kick ass. He, like Townsend, Entwistle and Daltry, is an absolute legend of rock.
