RepoMantaur Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 there could be attributes the refs have that determine; 1- if they stop the fights too soon, at the right time, or too late which could lead to; a lower match rating (too soon) injuries (too late) 2 - if they are able to catch fouls 3 - if they lean more towards allowing uneventful ground fighting (how soon they will tell fighters to stand up if they are just being tactical on the ground) 4 - maybe a rating that determines how likely they are to DQ someone if they are catching fouls, or how tolerant they are of fouls it would add an element to the game of trying to secure good refs (although it may be more realistic to allow commissions to appoint refs) -- i would like judges to have ratings as well; 1 - judgment (how accurate they will score the fight) 2 - ground (how much credit they will give to successful ground tactics) 3 - striking (how much credit they will give to effective striking) 4 - (possibly) wrestling (how much credit they give to effective wrestling, such as take downs 5 - favorite (how likely they are to score in favor of a favorite) 6 - corruption (if the bribe feature is used) --- also it would be nice to have an option to set the scoring to either round by round (10 point must) or overall (like pride, where the entire fight is scored and not each round) -- similar ratings could be applied to athletic commissioners 1 - judgment ref (theyre judgment in selecting competent refs) 2 - judgment judge (theyre judgment in selecting competent judges) 3 - corruption
ACCBiggz Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 If there are any judge/ref stats Cecil Peoples will be given a 0.
Jacko00 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I think judges should be in the background and be chosen by the commisions.
JMimic Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007
If there are any judge/ref stats Cecil Peoples will be given a 0.
All 10s for Herb Dean! Hahaha...Love me some Herb Dean
ACCBiggz Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Cecil Peoples is the worst judge in the history of MMA. He wasn't THAT bad in the one match I saw him ref, but it still was probably stopped short by a punch or two. But overall it wasn't a horrible stoppage. Herb gets a raw deal, he's good.
Undertaker666 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007
Herb gets a raw deal, he's good.
Generally i'd agree, not for the Ortiz vs Shamrock fight though!
jeremybotter Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007
I think judges should be in the background and be chosen by the commisions.
I agree. As in real life, poor judging should be something that only happens once in a blue moon. The judges scores usually reflect what actually happened in the fight, and very rarely do they make mistakes in giving the win to the wrong guy.

JMimic Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007
Generally i'd agree, not for the Ortiz vs Shamrock fight though!
I know I'm only kidding; Herb is a pretty good ref.
RepoMantaur Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 it may be the fact that there are so few rounds that lead to there being less robberies in mma, but there certainly should be judges that prefer different things (striking, takedowns, submission attempts) on a side note if you want to see perhaps the worst, or possibly most corrupt judge of all time http://www.boxrec.com/officials.php?official_id=63
ACCBiggz Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007
Generally i'd agree, not for the Ortiz vs Shamrock fight though!
Shamrock/Ortiz II was stopped correctly. Nothing was stopping Ortiz from delivering another 27 elbows to the grill. A lot of fans were just upset it was that short.
As in real life, poor judging should be something that only happens once in a blue moon.
Haha. Riiigghhtt. There is a reason why Joe Rogan and tons of MMA personal including Dana White get upset with the NSAC. They've been employing boxing judges for MMA matches. Just watch some fight nights and you'll see some terrible judge, mostly by Cecil Peoples.
mad5226 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I was one of those fans upset it was so short, damn PPV and charging me 35 bucks! I really the idea of the ref stats though that could really add a whole new element to the game just because then you can decide the type of ref you want other than just going for the best overall grade.

Good call on Herbs part in my opinion.
I was one of those fans upset it was so short, damn PPV and charging me 35 bucks!
Thats the chance you take in any combat sport though. Ref/Judge stats are a great idea, it wouldn't be a true MMA simulator without some dodgy decisions from some crappy judges.
javier_83 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 tyeah, like Title Bout Championship Boxing there are ref, that stop the fights early, or make wort decision with a cut etc..

Which could lead up to more depth in the game.
