The Ego Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Guys with T-Zone 2007 not far off the horizon, i am thinking ahead to starting a diary with the data.... Everybody knows my bias towards WCW, so what im proposing is a modern day return of WCW, But this time with Ted Turner at the helm. Turner & McMahon in 2001 agreed the deal, now in 2007, Turner uses his "First Option" clause on WCW Trademarks, allowing him to re-set up the promotion. Now please i want peoples thoughts on this, Is it a good idea, is it a bad idea? Should i end my other diary, should i keep them both going? Guys its your opinions that count to me, but with the new diary i promise the best graphics on the board (Minus the Ultra Awesomely cool WWE Diary with the websites)....all i ask is your opinions...esp guys like TCP, Nevermore, Panix, Tristram etc.
Midnightnick Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I personally think most post-death WCW Diaries aren't worth reading due to their backstories, and use of Indy favorites in major roles. But that's just my opinion.
James Casey Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I'd definitely like to see this done, and had considered doing it at one point. I'd love to see it done in a realistic manner and without, as Midnightnick notes, just being an excuse to sign all the best indy guys without any recourse to any of the things that made WCW great. And awful. You might want to consider a few restraints before you start, like: No raiding of TNA - in fact, a War relationship would be best. Limit the drafts from WWE - assuming you take a few workers like Booker, Helms and WGTT, if any. Re-form the nWo - no WCW is ever likely to exist without the nWo in some form or another, so you may as well factor it in. No using Paul Heyman - WCW and ECW had a cordial loathing back in the day. No reason that shouldn't continue. Hopeless washed-up old has-been given a big push - say hello, Warrior... Bobby Heenan and Tony Schiavone on commentary - for that true WCW experience. An obsession with any celebrity willing to work for them - Mancow, David Arquette, NFL players with nothing better to do, Jay Leno, Dennis Rodman... A healthy cruiser division - Well, I had to give you something decent to build on :p
shamelessposer Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 The nWo is a must, but I'd say that it would be best served by not using too many of the established nWo guys. Bring in maybe Scott Hall, a couple quasi-members like Disco Inferno, but this time around build the group off of a different bunch of guys. The old heads of nWo are today's establishment, and bringing them in seems awfully hypocritical. But Shark Boy in the black and white is something I'd pay good money to see. Disenfranchised tag specialists like Spike Dudley could work, too. Pretty much get a group of all the guys who have a right to be pissed at the wrestling world, stick them in a stable, and go crazynuts with a new version of the nWo.
stupifY_me Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I don't see any reason not to do it. I am not a fan of WCW at all kind of hated it but it would be neat to play a mod of modern stars with the idea that WCW was back and a competitor again.
The Ego Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 James Casey, I try to play with realistic edge on all my games, Such as my current diary, i havent signed a single TNA guy, or pushed an internet fav indy guy to the top. Realism is for me.

The one exception I'd make is for Colt Cabana, but then, no diary is complete without some Colt Cabana love :p

Are you saying that in reality Indy faves would never become stars?? Im sorry, but I simply don't believe that to be true. Especially since we have seen it happen heck it's happening now look at CM Punk WWE is pushing him, and it is painfully obvious that they have big plans for him in the future. If I am not mistaken Punk was a huge indy fave. At one point so was Samoa Joe look at him now on a TV show getting World title shots. TNA may not be the number 1 company, but they are right behind it.
The Ego Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 No, Not that they would never become stars, just not straight away. Look how long its taking Punk to get over in the mainstream wrestling world, Samoa Joe wouldnt walk into the WWE Main Event scene yet, even.
stupifY_me Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Ok Now i get it. I thought you were saying that you would never push them to the superstar lvl. I pretty much do the same thing as you I still havn't put CM Punk in the main event title picture just yet, and it's getting close to 08 now im closing in. Thats ok though I did some much needed rearranging of the rosters so ECW actually has more main eventers than just Lashley, and RVD is actually on the top again as my current champ.
Woodsmeister Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 i would say it should be ok to take indy talent and TNA/ROH talent look what WCW did in the past, you take the best talent bury them underneath all your star power attractions and there you have dubya c dubya!
James Casey Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 No question about that :D But it's more of a case that, realistically, if you're just going to assemble a dream roster of indy talent, well, you may as well just play as ROH. A start-up fed like Ego's WCW can benefit hugely from the presence of someone like Randy Savage - but at the same time, it'd be unrealistic to believe that he wouldn't want to get the big push, hold the World title etc. etc. It's inevitable that some indy workers will appear in a diary, unless you have a static world only using workers that TNA or WWE cast off, but at the same time those workers shouldn't be going over Savage, Sid, or whoever you sign that has some overness that can be leeched from :)
