How much of a 'realist' player are you?

For example If I sign a guy like Undertaker for TNA, I won't use that gimmick as it would not be possible in reality with the copyright issue. It's also really fun to try to come up with a new gimmick/character name.

I have been known though to do what you are describing. If someone has a very stand out gimmick like Taker I would change it. I like to keep the game as realistic as possible. With that said I wouldn't bother to change the gimmick of some one like Kurt Angle or Christian Cage since realisticly they can keep their gimmicks for the most part no matter where they go considering they really didn't change it going to TNA.

It is not always the case that the company owns the rights to the gimmick or trademark. Sometimes the person themselves owns the trademarks and it would be allowed to fly. Generally with most big name veteran stars, if I am not mistaken, they own their own trademarks and thus could use them. I could be wrong but I do recall reading something about this many many moons ago.

Undertaker, 'Hunter Hearst Helmsley' AND 'Triple H', 'The Hurricane', 'Montel Vontavious Porter' AND MVP, and probably 'Ken Kennedy' and 'Mr. Kennedy'. Maybe Mark Callaway owns the 'Undertaker' character, given his loyalty, I could see Vince making an exception for him. But by and large, at least in the top company, they do a brisk business in copyrighting and trademarking their characters. Though I think after the Dudleys and Brock Lesnar went through their dramas with the 'E, more performers are going to pay closer attention to character copyrights and ownership. As far as how much of a realist I am, it really depends. Since I usually only play the Cornellverse, there aren't too many examples of possible copyrighted characters. Like, it can be assumed that Cliff Wilson owns the 'Dark Angel' character so can use it wherever he wants. I think promotion specific aliases (as defined in the database) would determine ownership. That goes for tag team names as well. So 'The Machines' (for example) is owned by TCW but 'Adrenaline Rush' and 'The New Wave' are owned by the members of the team, not DAVE. For the most part, except for cases like the Japanese promotions, there are few, if any, promotion specific tag team names. But 'Runaway Train' would most likely be the property of Richard Eisen and SWF.

I like to keep it really realistic, it makes for a nice challenge. Not so much the gimmicks but the names. Like on my 1997 diary I signed Buff Bagwell for WWF and renamed him "Marcus Bagwell", although I sense a change to "Bagwell" or "The Bagwell" is on the horizon. In short, names used by companies bigger than cult I assume would be for the most part owned by the company (unless it's their real name or they are a super huge star) so I change it.

I'm a big realist too, If I'm working with another company and I sign away a TCW or SWF worker... I tend to change their name &/or gimmick and develop them as a different character. If I really like the worker's gimmick already, then you might do the old school WCW thing and just change the name to sound something like the original name in the previous company & book them somewhat the same.

I'm so much of a real world realist that I'd probably say "That'll never happen" to 90% of what happens in the game world and stop playing altogether. I don't really bother changing anybody's Cornellverse name either unless it's a really stupid joke for my amusement. I think it has a lot to do with the graphics in the game. Lobster Warrior with a name change will always have a lobster suit on, for example.

Wasn't Chris given an alt picture in the last database update? The whole Underwater Union was, I thought. Or maybe I've been spending too much time in the render thread. :p

If it makes you feel better, then I'll say Fox Mask always has a silly mask on.

Fyi Remi, Runaway Train has an alter ego for TCW - he's called Bad News Bowen if he goes there, so presumably Runaway Train is what he is called everywhere else.

Nope, I don't do that. If I get Undertaker, he's still taker, lol. I'm pretty sure the database has the option of making "copyrighted" gimmicks for workers now, so if Undertaker was not an option, I would just choose something else, like the Man in Black, or something else that would go with his already established look.

I don't play realistically at all, and that's the way I like it. For instance, if I sign a worker, I'll just use whatever gimmick I most remember/like them for. Also, for instance, I don't push people just because they're being pushed in real life, in fact, if I were to start a WWE game right now, I'd job John Cena, Bobby Lashley, and whoever else I could into the ground and make some stars out of people who actually deserve it.

I only play with the Cornellverse, however. And I try to keep that as real as it could be given it's already at a disadvantage being a fake universe and all. I think bringing in the copywrite issues is a bit too much micro-management. Then again, I've spent over three hours writing a long storyline for people in DAVE.
