Tripps04 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Does anyone see the point of turning CM Punk. He might be the most over ECW wrestler. I really hope that didn't screw him up. What a waste. Opinions wanted!
Tripps04 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 I'm sorry I really hope that is not the reason. To me it would make more sense to have one of the Originals (stevie, J. Credible if still there) to jump to the new breed. I don't get it.
GDE71 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007
to get Stevie in the Originals?
That could be the only reason to do it. I think they are confused with what to do with all 3 brands at the moment. Smackdown at backlash???? Undertaker/Batista/Finlay/Booker T
Tripps04 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 If they were gonna go down this line then wait till backlash put on another 4vs4 match and then have the turn. Why put it on free cable, they had a couple of more weeks to "try" and persuade CM. Hey, it could turn out well but who knows. sometime WWE shock me into WTF moments.
djthefunkchris Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007
That could be the only reason to do it. I think they are confused with what to do with all 3 brands at the moment. Smackdown at backlash???? Undertaker/Batista/Finlay/Booker T
From what they said, they aren't confused at all. They said they are PURPOSELY crossbranding (I've posted this many times, going back a while now) because people are going to Smackdown wanting to see Lashley, or Cena or HBK, etc... They might not keep it up once people start getting back from being out (HHH, Rey Mysterio, Mark Henry, etc.), but they stated it on their websight that it's being done because of public outcry. People are showing up at events and want to see the other stars as well. I doubt it will stop for PPV's especially, since it seems to be working as intended.... Ok, I'm pretty dissapointed that CM Punk joined the new breed, but...... He never outright said it (although I guess getting lifted up for the crowd, and shouting "YEAH!!" kind of says enough). I guess I'm just hoping that it's a "fake out" by CM Punk, just to get them to leave him alone or something. I don't see him being a bad guy at this point hurting him at all though. I just personally wanted to see him up against a few of the new guys for a change.
Jasx12 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Punk is at his best when he's a bad guy. I liked his promos much better.
GDE71 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I was referring to their booking being confused. They don't seem to be able to handle 3 different brands. There is NO purpose to have brands if everyone can work every show. It just adds ONE more belt. Kinda stupid.....
Jorge_JBR Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Smackdown being at Backlash makes sense considering WWE wants to have all brands at every PPV, even if it's like a RAW PPV. They still want at least one match from ECW and Smackdown. I think putting Punk is the New Breed makes sense. Punk is so good as a heel. Hell, his turn went over pretty well, and he really didn't do sh** when he turned. That's how good he is. I'm pretty sure he is going to become a face again down the line. Part of me wanted him to stay out of this storyline, but he is one of the biggest stars ECW has right now, and the storyline needs him.
Remianen Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 They needed him in the New Breed. Right now, ECW has a dearth of credible heels and bonafide stars. For those who may not be familiar with his previous work, Punk makes a VERY credible heel (I'm talking Triple H/Ric Flair caliber, with less experience of course). So now, you have your two biggest future stars (Burke & Punk) as heels while Lashley does his thing with Mr. McMahon. It gets them noticed by the fans and Punk can probably elevate Burke's exposure while Burke's mic work (which is more "WWE-centric") can make them all look better. Mind you, I'm not discounting Striker or Monty Brown. But Striker is a bit too small in stature to really fit the WWE mold for pushes and Monty still needs to tighten up his ring work (though that's never stopped them in the past). Besides, this turn (I'm inclined to agree with chris that it's probably a fake-out kinda thing) allows them to set up a Punk-Burke clash probably at Armageddon.
AdinX Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Punk joining New Breed is also the only one that makes sense. ECW is already deteriorating quickly, if Punk became an 'ECW original', that'd just be ****ed up...

That is pretty much what they have being doing anyway for the PPV's with ECW. On a side note, JUST DECIDE WHAT BRAND THE HARDYZ ARE PART OFF!, jes. It isn't as if smackdown & ECW don't need the help anyway
