AfRoMaN36 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 The Good: I honestly wasnt expecting CM Punk to turn, but now I really see things spicing up on the ECW brand. I figured the WWE was gunna take the safe road and go with what the "smarks" cheer for, but they proved me wrong. Now one of the faces of ECW has joined the only notable feud in ECW as a heel. Honestly, it couldve gone down more dramatic, but they have me tuned in for next week. I just hope they now let CM Punk utilize the magic he can work on the mic. And on another note, all jokes aside, I'm beginning to like this... "Snitsky and Extreme Expose" thing. Knowing the Snitsky character, I'm sure one day he's going to grab a mic and tell us that he's got a little crush on Layla. Personally, I would've gone with Kelly because well.... she looks better and because shes somewhat the better actress (Still not saying much) but its nice to see a second storyline between him, Layla and Balls Mahoney starting up. And this one has potential aswell. The Bad: Nothing really stuck out to me tonight other than Punk turning. A night like tonight is really the epitome of the WWECW brand. Not terrible, but not great. Average card, avereage performances, just like we've gotten so used to lately. Sad that this comes after one of the greatest Main Events in history last week. But this week, we were treated to RVD vs an NFL reject. And what the hell is up with Marcus Cor Vons theme song? I was honeslty expecting Shannon Moore to come out in his little "3-Count" gimmick. And also what is up with the fans lately? It seems like they will chant "boring" whenever their is a 5 second lag in the action. Seriously, these guys would have been dead in the 80's and Hulk Hogan would have been eaten alive. I mean they went as far as to chant boring during a CM PUNK match!? WTF!?!? Overall: Typical ECW show with a big twist in the end that legitly shocked me. But, other than that, nothing to Tivo. Rating: **1/2 Best Pops: (Note: I started watching 10 minutes late) 1. RVD 2. Balls Mahoney 3. Extreme Expose?!?!? WTF!?!? Best Heat: 1. CM Punk 2. Snitsky 3. Stevie Richards My Two Cents: * How dumb does Layla look for that horrible looking escape "attempt?" * And does Sandman work out.....? * ....EVER? * ...or does he have AIDS? * Did Joey Styles need a reminder in that announcement that Bobby Lashley is STILL an ECW superstar? * And doesnt that surprise you? * Is anyone else getting tired of the Originals bending over to the New Breed? * Will that neckbrace Sabu is wearing prevent him from smuggling more dope? * Because if so.... good. * Boy, does Marcus Cor Vons theme song so NOT fit him.... *Does Tazz really want us to beleive that he talks about this ECW with his ECW friends? * If I were him, I wouldnt even tell anyone I'm affiliated with that brand. Make sure to leave your own feedback.
Tripps04 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 * ...or does he have AIDS? Wow, I can't believe you said that. Not cool at all.
dvdWarrior Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I'd figured that CM Punk would join the Originals, but I'm actually glad he went with the New Breed. I'm not too sure how Punk's Straight Edge gimmick would've meshed with The Sandman's beer drinking, not to mention RVD and Sabu. And when Snitsky showed up with the Expose girls backstage, for some reason I expected him to say something about "nice shoes". :)

And I think the "I'm straight Edge and RVD is a pothead." promos would work well. "Wow, I can't believe you said that. Not cool at all." I'm actually not the first person on here to say it. I just stole it from various other guys. No offense meant of course.
weirdo_man Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007
* And does Sandman work out.....? * ....EVER? * ...or does he have AIDS?
I've been wondering about this ever since ONS2. He is so small compared to what he used to be that he looks like a grandfather who just sits around and watches TV all the time. It's really disappointing. (I've also asked the AIDS question.)
*Does Tazz really want us to beleive that he talks about this ECW with his ECW friends?
Does Tazz seriously not know what a hurrincanrana is? Because he called it a victory roll tonight. I feel bad for Joey having to announce next to him. At least Gertner didn't try to guess the names of moves when he didn't know. He was just entertaining. Tazz isn't.
PeterHilton Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007
But this week, we were treated to RVD vs an NFL reject.
All American at Ferris State. First FSU player to be named an All American and Academic All American in the same year. Set school records in tackles and sacks. Four seasons in the NFL. Reserve for the 93 Bills team that went to a Super Bowl. Started for the 96 Pats team that went to a Super Bowl. Started wrestling because his ankle was absolutely obliterated in training camp. I know I pick on you, but calling Monty an NFL reject still means he's a better athlete than roughly 95% of the pro wrestlers out there.
AfRoMaN36 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 I know, I know the guy was good and Im only teasing. Just the fact that the guy has a defficiency for any type of charisma whatsoever, is a tad sloppy in the ring and has an entrance song that.... well, its just silly.
PeterHilton Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 To be fair to Sandman, he's a 40 something year old man who has spent the majority of his life drinking hard, smoking constantly, living on the road, wrestling in hardcore matches, and generally being the gimmick of a total and complete animal. Not too surprised.

Hopefully. I actually thought his Alpha Male character was pretty LOL entertaining. In the long run, I think he's a bigger loss for TNA than a gain for the E, but he's got far more natural charisma and potential than someone like, say...Lashley.

In fact the day Tazz was replaced by JBL I felt like smackdown lost something before I realized JBL was even funnier. And have you played Smackdown vs RAW? That guys hilarious! But I think its just because many accuse Lashley of having the personality of a broom despite me actually liking him.
ahw26 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I was actually expecting Punk to join the New Breed, I didn't expect to see it happen on this week's show in particular, but i was expecting it to happen at some point in the next few weeks. i was mostly expecting Punk to join the NB because i figured WWE would figure that most people would've expected him to join the originals, plus if he's half the heel that the majority of the IWC say he was in RoH then it will make for some very interesting television. Plus later on he'll be a challenger for Lashley's title and hopefully will be the one to dethrone him before heading into a feud with RVD.
PeterHilton Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 OK..I only did a half-assed job of watching the east coast broadcast, so I re-watched it at 10 PM here in Cali...here are some of my more focused thoughts: -The CM Punk/Richards match was boring as hell. The fans had every reason to complain. Actually the work rate in general has not been that good lately. Just really slow paced matches. -Snitsky look extremely intimidating. I think a lot of the credit for the should go to the production people. They are using some amazing camera work to really get him across as a monster. -I have no clue how this turn will end up. Could be a total screw up. Could be a great way to play to Punk's strength on the mic, something they haven't taken advantage of. But I do know one thing: that was the least dramatic turn in the history of wrestling. Terrible. Tripps04 said it in another thread: why not build the drama a few weeks and have it happen at Backlash? Betray his teammates? Something??!?
AfRoMaN36 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 100% right and exacly what I said. This turn could have been big, but paled in comparison to the Hogans and the Austins. (In terms of HOW they turned) But this one could have been seen a block away. In fact, by the way RVD and Sabu were positioned along with Burke and Von, you could litterally invision the exact thing that really happened. Weak.

Lashley didn't get to cut Shanes hair (would have been predictable). CM Punk was loved, as is the the ECW originals, him going there would have been predictable. Sooner or later, the New Breed will have to take completely over, then they will have to have eternal problems. When that starts happening, is when the show becomes legitimate to me. They will have picked up the New Breed to a higher level, thus picking up the ECW originals in sideline storylines (Those that will be staying, RVD probably). Then, after it's all said and done, no more new breed, no more originals, and they won't need it again till they need a DX type gimmick at a later date.
