Sledge Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I am forced to run two weekly PPV shows for RAW and Smackdown! since I was playing around with Network deals. It seems I make a helluva lot more money by running PPV shows than TV shows. I made just under $800,000 off of one show from PPV buys and ticket sales. Is this typical? If so what is the point of running TV shows over PPV?

Have you finished your whole month yet?
Remianen Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Well yeah, PPVs make more money. Think about it. TV is for exposure, not money making. PPV is where the money is made. If TV were more profitable on a per-event basis, who'd wanna do PPVs? You'd have your cake and a nice fork and glass of milk to eat it too. The "problem" with PPVs is diminishing returns. After a while, your audience starts to lose the ability to pay $20/$30/$50 to see a show and your buys drop. But, depending on your popularity, it can take quite a few shows before that drop becomes enough to consider not doing PPVs for a while. Look at your ticket prices. You get less per fanny in a seat for TV events than you do for 'Events' (which would include PPVs) or house shows. That means, a TV broadcast is going to generate less at the gate AND not have a backend payoff (like PPVs with buys). But, the difference is, you can run a TV show every week indefinitely and not see any real decrease in viewership (assuming a standard level of quality) while if you do that with PPVs, you'll see your buyrate start to tank after about the 2nd month (if that).
Sledge Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Well shoot. So far the buyrates have been better each week. All I need to do is get to the next season so I can get some TV deals.

It's bound to go up with better stuff advertised. But you should be able to get to the next negotiation period fairly easily, I'd think. You might have a slight problem toward the end (what with running 2 PPVs a week) but it won't be too bad with WWE. I'm assuming they're easily the most popular promotion in the world in your game, of course.
Jorge_JBR Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I've been running weekly PPVs in DAVE for the past like four months. I was losing money before I lost my TV deal. Since I lost my TV deal, I've been making at least $150,000 a month.
