Emark 4, chris caulfield 3... Nice to know I'm not completely predictable :) In case I forget to mention it, the build will start in earnest soon for Iron, August's tri-brand show and the only card that month. I'll be holding three a year, Iron, Where It All Begins Again (December) and the RCI (April). The news report at the end of this post sort of kicks things off, as it sets up one title match at Iron. If there's enough interest shown, I'll probably run a prediction contest for Iron itself. * MAW Wrestling presents: Mother, May I? – Friday, Week 4, May 2011 - 241 at Ohio Jewish Centre MAW Tag Team Titles Natural Storm (c) def. Storm won with a Raynefire from Rayne (D) Marc Speed def. “Stormy” Cal Sanders This was a fine match between these two former RCI champions, who have always shown good chemistry when paired together. Speed won with a High Speed Crossface, helping to put the Jim Force period of his career behind him (C-) Julian Watson def. Hugh de Aske Watson is nothing short of brilliant, and this match against de Aske was a fine example of how differing styles can gel. De Aske has been hot in recent months, and Watson needed a win over an established worker to get his MAW career on the go, while Hugh loses nothing from a match of this calibre. Watson won with a Rising Son (C) “Time for me to stake my claim. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that when I beat that deluded fool Casey in our match tonight, that I’ll be named number one contender to the Heavyweight title. Frankie, Steve, I want you to spend the next month polishing that belt. I want it to look nice and shiny when it makes its way back around my waist” (D-) “Steven Parker thinks I’m deluded – but he’s the one who thinks that he’ll make it through me, and through the winner of tonight’s main event. But Parker is forgetting something – for all the noise that he makes, he doesn’t have the record to back himself up. You see, he’s never won the big matches. He’s the shortest-reigning MAW champion of all time, in fact. And he only won it in the first place because he cheated Cattley out of the belt. As for who he lost it too... Well, DC Rayne is a good tag wrestler – but as a singles worker? Are you kidding me? No, sorry Steven – tonight will be another big disappointment for you. At least you’re used to them by now” (E+) Steven Parker def. James Casey A fine match between the two upper-card staples, as each man pressed for an advantage in the title race. It was Parker who took the lead, edging a closely contested and very enjoyable match with a Future Shock (C-) “Simply put, this is the last time that I let that New York fool Steve Flash in the ring with me. The senile old man thinks that he’s entitled to keep coming after me ‘til he flukes a win. Well, no more. Tonight is your last chance, amigo. When you lose tonight, that’s it. But I’ll be nice – you’re old, so I’ll end it quick in two straight falls” (D-) MAW Heavyweight Title – Best Of Three Falls Frankie Perez (c) def. Steve Flash This was the culmination of a series of matches pitting these two against one another, with the vastly experienced Flash playing gatekeeper to the incredible potential of Perez. Perez took an early lead in this match, with a typically cheap low blow followed by Perfect Parity. Flash fired back, seemingly eager to exploit the three-fall stipulation, and dominated the second fall with Perez’ attempts to cheat continually blocked by an increasingly observant referee. Flash levelled the scores with a Flash Bang. The third fall left both men exhausted, as Perez took the brunt of the early punishment, forced to rely on clean tactics and seemingly thrown by this unusual approach. However, as Flash’s age started to tell, Perez was able to gain more and more ground, with a gutsy performance that saw him outwrestling and outbrawling Flash, exploiting his superior conditioning and pushing Flash past the limits of his endurance. Even so, Flash hit a second Flash Bang and Perez was only saved by his proximity to the ropes. As Flash dragged himself disbelievingly to his feet, Perez clamped on the P-Clutch and forced Flash into submission for a brilliant victory and successful title defence (C) Show overall: C * This month, MAW recorded a $12,000 loss. The sooner things rebound in Mid-Atlantic the better. We need to grow in popularity elsewhere, as well. If we don’t, we could be closed down within the year. Still, Rip was chipper. His secretary confessed that she’d spiked his coffee with something that she would only refer to as jolly juice. I chose to believe that it was nothing more than ginseng and royal jelly, and fervently hoped all day that Rip wouldn’t do anything daft under the influence. *
MAW.com special report - Wrestling, Assault Chiefs of Staff announce trade Monday 1st June 2011 Assault Chief of Staff Rob L. Miskovsky and Wrestling Chief of Staff Steve Smith have today announced a straight trade between their brands. “We’ve taken Strong Mayhem, Erik Strong and Max Mayhem, from Assault,” Smith announced. "We want to strengthen the tag division, and they weren’t doing a great deal on the other brand.” “We’d wanted to have the tag champions appear on Assault as well,” Miskovsky added. “Unfortunately, Steve worked out a contract with Natural Storm where they were exclusive to that brand – and now they’re the champs, we’ve decided to take advantage of the situation. So we lose out on Erik and Max, but we gain a great deal with the signings of former Rip Chord Invitational and MAW Tag Team champion Marc Speed, and the international superstar, “Maverick” Julian Watson.” “Say what you want, Rob, but I think I know who got the better deal,” Steve said. “We’ve got the finest tag competition in the country right now, with Strong Mayhem, the Canadian Blondes, Spirit of the North, and the champions, Natural Storm.” “And I just signed two of your best workers – who both picked up wins on your last show,” Rob fired back, before the two got into a nasty shouting match that we’ve decided not to transcribe. Stay tuned to MAW.com as we bring you the débuts of the traded workers in the coming weeks!
* MAW Assault presents: Summer Showdown Jared Johnson vs. Shingen Miyazaki vs. Tempest Shane Nelson and Casey Valentine vs. El Bestia Purpura and Cameron Vessey Marc Speed vs. Matthew Keith “Machine” Jean Cattley vs. “Trademark” Thomas Morgan MAW Traditional Title Greg Keith (c) vs. Julian Watson

2 from 5 for Emark, 3 from 5 for sebsplex. Thanks for getting involved, folks! * MAW Assault presents: Summer Showdown – Friday, June Week 2, 2011 – 1,000 at Delaware Auditorium Jared Johnson def. Shingen Miyazaki and Tempest Shingen has a downside equivalent to a month’s wages, so if we’re paying him anyway, we may as well use him. In this very enjoyable match, he added a little dazzle to the battle between journeymen midcarders Johnson and Tempest, before Johnson put Tempest away with an MDK Powerbomb (C) Shane Nelson and Casey Valentine vs. El Bestia Purpura and Cameron Vessey Cameron Vessey made a less-than-triumphant return to his old stomping grounds in this match, falling to the talented pairing of Nelson and Valentine. Still, Vessey avoided taking the loss, as Nelson pinned Purpura with a Full Nelson Bomb to get the duke for his team (D) Marc Speed def. Matthew Keith Speed’s Assault debut could hardly have gone better, taking a win from one of the brand’s up and coming stars. The two went back and forth in an enjoyable fast-paced contest, with Greg cheering his brother on from ringside, but it was Speed who just edged out his younger opponent, taking the win with a High Speed Crossface (C-) Matthew Keith was moping backstage when his brother Greg walked in, Traditional title prominent around his waist. “Hey bro. Tough match.” “Yeah. I don’t seem to be able to get it going at the moment.” “Hey, give it time. You’ll hit a rhythm before you know it – then you’ll be like me, up on top of the world. No-one will be able to touch you, Matt!” Matthew looked at Greg in disbelief. “Anyway, I gotta go get ready for my match. Listen, don’t worry too much about losing. It’s all valuable experience, right?” Greg walked off, absent-mindedly fingering the MAW title around his waist, as Matthew shook his head (D+) “Are you going to let him talk to you like that?” Matthew turned around to find the Trademark behind him, leaning against the door and inspecting his fingernails. “What the hell do you want?” “Listen, kid,” Morgan began, turning his attention on Matthew. “What I ought to do right now is beat you within an inch of your life. You cost me the title last month – and that’s an act I’d normally repay with a beating. Still...” Morgan sighed, in a lasciviously satisfied manner. “Giselle was very good to me that night. Were it possible, I might even consider losing more matches. I mean, I can’t lose, obviously – I’m the Trademark. It’s barely even up to me. I’m just too good for this company.” “Do you have a point?” “Oh... Yes. I’m sure you’ll understand that I can get carried away when I’m talking about me.” “Yeah, right.” “You see, back when I was a rookie like you, I had someone try and talk to me like that. Do you know what happened to him?” “No.” “Neither did he, after I was through with him. If you let people treat you like that, then you’ll get nowhere in this business. You might want to think about that.” “Listen, Greg’s my brother. I’m not going to just turn on him because you think I should.” “Good for you. You shouldn’t do anything just because I think you should – even if I am Thomas Morgan, the Trademark. But you might want to ask yourself: Should you do it because you think you should?” Morgan walked off, leaving a conflicted-looking Matthew Keith behind (D+) “Trademark” Thomas Morgan def. “Machine” Jean Cattley Do we need to go into details? In brief, Cattley looked good, but lacked that final sparkle he’s been missing since dropping the belt. Morgan looked good, and had sparkle. The match was even better than we had expected. Morgan won with the Morgan’s Finest to extend Cattley’s streak to eight long months without a win – but the combination of great wrestlers and, frankly, pretty darn good chemistry made this MAW’s match of the year so far (B) MAW Traditional Title Greg Keith (c) def. Julian Watson They say that the devil is in the details, and so it proved here. The record books will show a successful defence for the champ – but yet again Matthew Keith played a big role. With the match finely poised after some excellent give and take action, Watson hit a Rising Son and looked set to win his first MAW title. However, Matthew distracted the referee, saving his brother. The match continued, and Watson seemed on course for a win, but Greg rallied and was on the verge of hitting a Full Moon, only for Watson to shove him off and into the ref, who went down. With the ref out, Watson went for a chair, and after several wild – and wide – swings, was only stopped by Matthew sliding into the ring and grabbing it from him. Greg sent Watson into the ropes but Matthew dived in front of him, and with an overhead swing cracked Watson in the face with a chair. Greg looked on in disbelief, but Matthew turned to him and pointed at Watson’s prone form as the referee began to stir. Greg reluctantly covered, never taking his eyes from Matthew as the referee counted a slow three – not that Watson was going to kick out anytime soon (C) Matthew joined Greg in the ring, and attempted to hand the Traditional title to his brother. Instead, Greg demanded to know what had just happened. “I saved your title, bro,” Matthew said, draping the belt over his shoulder. “Our title.” “My title,” Greg snapped, snatching the title back. “I won it.” “We won it – or did you think that you beat Casey Valentine on your own? Or made those defences without my helping you?” “You mean...” “All these months, it’s been down to me that you’ve been winning. Do you not watch your own matches?” “It’s bad luck...” “Oh, the hell you say. You’re in denial, Greg. We’ve always been a team – what’s the problem with me helping you?” Greg had no answer, or chose not to give one. “So now you know. Well, I guess it had to happen sometime. Anyway, now that it’s all out in the open, and you know that I’ve been the one winning your matches... How about you give me that title shot we talked about?” “...” “We always said that we’d do it that way, remember? As soon as one of us got a title, the other one’d be first in line for a shot.” “No.” “What?” “You don’t deserve it,” Greg said. “You’ve been cheating me, and you’ve lost more matches than you’ve won lately. No, Matt, I’m sorry... You don’t deserve a title shot. But as you believe in teamwork, and as I believe in fair play... Next month, the Keith Brothers will be teaming up again to take on Thomas Morgan and a partner of his choice. And if they win, then Morgan gets another shot at my title. It’s only fair.” “What if I win?” There was a pregnant pause, before Greg answered. “Then I guess we’ll have to deal with that if it happens.” The show closed with the brothers staring each other down in the centre of the ring (E+) Show overall: C- * OOC: The match booked in this final segment should have been Morgan and Watson. You know, the logical match... But Watson’s not available on the day of the next Assault show. Oh well... * MAW Militant presents: Flashpoint Yvonne Wright vs. Agent 69 Kit Hatoyama vs. Stephanie Wade Umeko Karube vs. Huntress Makiko Joanne Rodriguez vs. Wanda Fish MAW Women’s Title Alicia Strong (c) vs. Dragon Assassin Predictions, as always, very welcome!

Yvonne Wright A tidy opener pitting the recent training school graduate Wright against experienced star 69. The two warmed the crowd up for the night ahead without overdoing it, before 69 landed a Soviet Strike for the win (D-) Kit Hatoyama def. Stephanie Wade Another match in which a younger worker was pretty much led by the more experienced star, as the veteran Hatoyama guided Wade through a very acceptable match, prior to hitting a Hatoyama Driver for the win (D+) Huntress Makiko def. Umeko Karube Huntress Makiko was not here to help or guide, instead just blitzing the overmatched Karube on the way to a submission win with a Bow Of The Huntress. Makiko made a stake for herself as a singles wrestler in her own right, and not just a sidekick to Dragon Assasssin (D) Militant Chief of Staff Marv Earnest entered the ring, mic in hand: “In a little over two months time, the three brands of MAW will come together under one roof for the first time at Iron. I’ve been told that this brand will put on at least two matches on the show. Now God knows, I don’t want to do anything that’d make this company successful – I’ll just get stuck running it even longer. Still, I guess I do have a little something invested here, so for one night only, I’ll be throwing the doors open to good, honest competition. Which means that whoever wins this next match gets the shot at Dragon Assassin’s Women’s title at Iron. “What, does anyone here seriously think that Alicia Strong is going to be able to keep hold of the title tonight? Please...” (E+) Backstage, and Alicia Strong is stretching. Joanne Rodriguez approaches, and taps Alicia on the shoulder. “Hey. Listen, I’m sure you heard what Marv just said. I want you to know that I didn’t ask for that.” “I know,” Alicia said, with a smile. “He’s just an ass. Besides, he thinks that Wanda and Dragon will win tonight, and so he wants two of his favourite girls at Iron – not me and you. He’s probably planning to set us up with a bikini contest or something.” A pause to allow all the men in attendance and watching on the internet to process that mental image. “Well, I just wanted to be sure that we’re okay.” “Oh, of course. No question. And hey, if it is me and you at Iron, it’ll be a great match.” “No question. I won’t be taking it easy on you, though.” “I’d hope not! And hey, whatever happens, we’re still friends, right?” “Of course! Like that would ever be in question.” “Cool. Well, good luck against Wanda tonight – and I’ll see you at Iron!” (D-) No. 1 Contender Match Joanne Rodriguez def. Wanda Fish This was an excellent match from two very talented competitors, boosted by their overness in the area bringing all the fans into the action. The match was enjoyable action from bell to bell, with no let up and no rest holds, just good old-fashioned storytelling. Fish even kept the cheating to a minimum, testing the ref’s patience on some rope breaks, but otherwise keeping it clean. However, she seemed to get a little carried away with herself, and when she missed a Dish Of The Day, Joanne was quick to mount the turnbuckles and hit a J-Rocker for the win (C+) MAW Women’s Title Alicia Strong (c) def. Dragon Assassin Seemingly spurred on by the fine match that preceded them, Strong and Assassin left it all in the ring in their main event. The undefeated Assassin started strong, pulverising her smaller opponent with a string of power moves, as Strong tried in vein to outwrestle her much stronger foe. Strong came back with a series of quick attacks that chipped away at Assassin’s limbs, weakening her offensive ability. The match was a classic example of David battling Goliath, and when Assassin missed a corner charge and hit her shoulder on the steel ringpost, Strong was able to zero in on the wounded joint and blitz it with a series of attacks that led up to her clamping on a Strongarm for the shock submission victory (C+) Show overall: C * MAW Wrestling presents: Domino Effect Steve Flash vs. Joey Beauchamp Hugh de Aske vs. Tiger Fuyuki MAW Tag Team Titles Strong Mayhem vs. Natural Storm (c) Amazing Fire Fly vs. Joss Thompson vs. James Casey MAW Heavyweight Title Steven Parker vs. Frankie Perez (c) Predictions welcome!

They call me the Future – but as far as I’m concerned, I’ve arrived – I am the Present. Joss Thompson and James Casey Amazing Fire Fly is Amazing, James Casey can’t buy a win at the moment, and Joss Thompson just got on and did his match. Subsequently, we had a very enjoyable match here with all three men leaving it in the ring. Whatever ‘it’ is. Thompson came desperately close to breaking his losing streak, nearly pinning Casey with a Clean Cutter. In fact, he had Casey down and out, only for the pin to be broken up by a Sky High Fire Fly that allowed Fly to snatch the win. Thompson had every right to be upset, but just seemed delighted to have made it through a match without losing outright (C+) “You know, it comes to something when you’re in a match with Joss Thompson and you still end up losing. I mean, for God’s sake...” Casey took a moment to compose himself. “I can live with losing matches. I mean, it sucks, but if I try my best, then I can at least take pride in-” he stopped, and pulled a face, “-losing to the better man. Well, I can’t – but it makes it easier to live with, at least. But being outclassed... No, that’s not acceptable. “In two months time, MAW will be holding Iron. And that night, I don’t want a title shot. No, that wouldn’t be right. I don’t want a title shot until I know I can win. So instead, I want to face someone who’s always brought the best out in me. And that’s Jean Cattley. So, Mean Jean... We’ve been banging heads for nearly five years now, and we’ve had a bloody good time doing it. So at Iron, let’s go at it one more time. “And if I can’t beat you... I might just retire” (D) “Steven Parker’s been out here again, flappin’ his gums. That gringo es loco, plain and simple. I could spend my time picking through his arguments about why he’s the next MAW champion, but I won’t. Hell, he may be right. He ain’t gonna win tonight, of course – but I could get knocked down by a bus tomorrow. And if it happens, and Steven Parker is driving, well, it’s the only way he’ll be putting me down for a three count anytime soon...” (D) MAW Heavyweight Title Frankie Perez (c) def. Steven Parker An unsurprisingly strong offering from two of our best young workers here. Parker has had his chances in the past, and will again in the future, but it’s unlikely any match will see him start as strongly as he did here, putting Perez down for two on no less than fourteen occasions in the opening five minutes. But his eagerness to get a quick win left him winded and Perez managed to regain ground as Parker tried to recover. The match seesawed back and forth, and it seemed inevitable that a mistake would be needed to settle matters. So it proved, with Parker managing an offensive flurry that left Perez on the back foot – but when Parker went up top, he was met with a stunning dropkick on his way down, leaving him vulnerable to a P-Clutch that gave him no option but to tap out (C+) Show overall: C * We lost about $5,000 on the month. KC Glenn Miyazaki is consistency personified, while Glenn is eminently carryable, and could do great things in the future. Still, right now, he’s here to put others over, and did so here, falling to a Shining Wizard (C-) Chief of Staff Rob L. Miskovsky joined Miyazaki in the ring. “Shingen here may not be my best friend, but I respect the hell out of his ability. Hell, I’d put him up against anyone in this company. So that’s the offer. If Marv the Militant, or Steve Smith on the imaginatively titled Wrestling want to put anyone up against Shingen at Iron – he’ll be there” (E+) “Yo yo yo,” Casey Valentine announced, taking the mic and being given the first chance to show off his recent gimmick change to a DJ/rapper hybrid. “Your former champ is here, ready to par-tay! It’s all about to kick off here in Ohio, and all you fans better be ready to jump, jump, jump, jump...” (E) Casey Valentine def. Nate Johnson Nate Johnson is another model of consistency, and did well with Casey Valentine, who was rather thrust into the leadership role when the brand-split occurred. Back in the midcard, he can work on improving against decent workers, such as Johnson. As we still have faith in him, however, he went over with a Kiss Of Death (C) Prior to his match with the brutal Sayeed Ali, Jean Cattley took a moment to reply to James Casey’s challenge for Iron. “James Casey’s right – we have had some great matches. And we may just have another one at Iron. But as for beating me, no – this time, I’ll be taking home the win” (E+) Sayeed Ali def. “Machine” Jean Cattley Cattley must have had his mind on Iron here, as he fell in shockingly short order to Ali, who has been nothing short of dominant since his debut. In a roster dominated by technicians and high-flyers, Ali’s ability to beat the life out his opponents sets him apart. His style may not be pretty – this was his best match so far – but his brutal assault, finished G.B.H. Driver, got him the win (D+) Mikey James def. Shane Nelson Despite Rip observing that these two men had no chemistry, their respective skills were enough to put on an excellent match. Debutant James took it to the very reliable Nelson from the off, and wasn’t above cheating with a low blow to set up a Patent Pending that put Nelson down for three (C) Backstage, and Thomas Morgan was with his partner for the night, Al Coleman. “I, Thomas Morgan, The Trademark was very precise in selecting my partner for tonight. I wanted someone whose skills complement my own, who I could rely on in a tight spot, who I knew could put on a great match and help me win. “Unfortunately, Miyazaki and Ali were already booked by the time I got done with Giselle. Still, this guy wasn’t doing anything, so I guess he’ll do” (E+) The Keith Brothers def. Coleman and Morgan did their best, but the real challenge came from within, as neither brother wanted to let the other win the match – and decide the fate of the Iron title match against them. However, as the match wore on, Morgan and Coleman made their way back into the match as the partnership between Matthew and Greg began to break down. The match between the two teams almost became incidental to the conflict between the two brothers as they spent more time yelling at one another than focusing on their opponents. Morgan nearly got the win with a quick roll-up on Greg, only for Matthew to make the save – before hitting a Depth Gauge on Morgan for a near fall broken up by Greg. Al Coleman tried to make his presence known only to fall victim to a Full Moon from Greg. Greg and Matt glared at each other, before Greg stepped back and pointed at Coleman. Matt covered Coleman cautiously, watching his brother the whole time as the referee counted to three. The Assault main event for Iron was set – the Keith Brothers would fight over the Traditional title (C) Show overall: C * MAW Militant presents: Beach Blast Suzanne Brazzle vs. Nadia Snow Tracy Brendon vs. “Amazing” Grace Harper Kit Hatoyama vs. Dragon Assassin Thunder Hike vs. Wanda Fish Joanne Rodriguez and Alicia Strong vs. Raven Nightfall and Steph Blake Predictions welcome! *
MAW.com Iron update The following matches have been confirmd so far for Iron, to be held on the last Friday in August: MAW Traditional Title Greg Keith (c) vs. Matthew Keith MAW Women's Title Alicia Strong (c) vs. Joanne Rodriguez "Machine" Jean Cattley vs. James Casey ??? vs. Shingen Miyazaki Keep your eye on MAW.com for more matches to be added following Beach Blast and Summer' Lovin!
No problems - keep hold of the Iron predictions, though - plenty more matches to come :) * MAW Militant presents: Beach Blast – Friday, Week 3, July 2011 – 1,000 sell-out at Delaware Auditorium Nadia Snow def. Snow has great potential and, importantly, works cheaply, and is seen by many as the future of the Militant brand. She took the win here with a Snowflake (D+) Tracy Brendon was backstage. “Marv Earnest says that he had a surprise for tonight’s losers, and it’s something to do with Iron. Any surprise that guy likes, I don’t want to be a part of. So Grace Harper, I’ll be more than happy to give you the chance to find out what’s given Marv a happy feeling when we fight later on tonight” (D-) Dragon Assassin def. Although Assassin won the with a Blade Of The Assassin, Hatoayama emerged from the match with a lot of credit as well (C+) “Marv Earnest has done a lot for me of late, although it’s certainly not out of any goodness in his heart,” Grace Harper declared. “I know he’s running Militant as his own private kingdom, and I don’t want to be one of his ladies-in-waiting. Brendon, you’re just going to have to take your medicine tonight – I don’t plan on doing anything to give Marv a happy feeling” (D-) Tracy Brendon def. “Amazing” Grace Harper Neither woman wanted anything to do with Marv Earnest’s ‘surprise’, so the result was a desperate scramble to avoid defeat. Both women have had mixed fortunes in the company, and so it was very much up in the air as to who would win. Finally, it came down to a fight to hit a finisher, with Breondon blocking a Harper’s Bizarre into an Idaho Crunch for the narrow win (D+) “Apparently I’m in line for this surprise as well. There’s a lot of things I could do to Marv Earnest, but lining up to be surprised by him? Not on the list. Still, once I beat Thunder Hike tonight, I’m safe, and Marv will have to find someone else to get his jollies from” (C-) Thunder Hike def. Wanda Fish Despite her words, Fish seemed unnerved by Marv’s presence at ringside, hadning the early advantage to Hike. Hike never really relinquished the advantage, blitzing Fish from all angles and utilising her vast experience to break up any attempt on Fish’s part to come back into the match. The end came when Fish missed a desperation Dish Of The Day from the top rope, and Hike nailed her with a Rolling Thunder for the victory (C+) “Let’s put it simply, I don’t like Suzanne Brazzle – never have. Wanda Fish and Grace Harper have let me down at every turn this year. They couldn’t even beat Alicia Strong two-on-one. So I’ve decided that at Iron, one of those three women will be humiliated. And that means that I’m going to humiliate them all right now. So with that said, it’s time for MAW’s first ever bikini contest.” ‘The Stripper’ played over the PA, as Wanda Fish, Suzanne Brazzle and Grace Harper, uniquely presenting a completely united front, made their way to the ring. All three wore silk robes, and from Marv’s words it wasn’t hard to work out what was underneath. “You know,” Marv smirked, as the three entered the ring. “I may be the first Chief of Staff in history to be hated by everyone on the roster. It’s a good feeling. Soon there’ll be some kind of coup, or backlash... And I’ll be free of babysitting a bunch of women. Now,” he turned his attention to the women. “Strip.” Fish snatched the mic from him. “No.” Marv barely had time to look surprised before Grace Harper nailed him a Harper’s Bizarre. Earnest staggered backward, straight into Brazzle Dazzle. Fish went up top, and dived off with a Dish Of The Day. With Earnest down, Fish picked up the mic. “We’re not your playthings, Marv. Now, I can’t stand Suzanne, and I can take or leave Grace – but we agreed that we’d work together tonight.” Flash dropped the mic and the three ladies left together. As they reached the curtain, Earnest pushed himself up on one elbow and took the mic. “The surprise... wasn’t the contest,” he announced, in a pained voice. “The surprise was a match at Iron.” The women stopped, looking surprised. “Whoever... lost the contest got the match. And I think... that Wanda Fish clearly lost... the contest. So at Iron, Wanda dear... you will be one-on-one with Sayeed Ali!” (C-) “We’d like to say that we feel sorry for Wanda Fish, and there’s a part of me that empathises with her. But she’s been such a pain these last few months that there’s also a part of me that feels glad she’s going to get her comeuppance at Iron.” “Of course, we have our own match at Iron, where we’ll be facing one another. I’m sure Marv Earnest would love to see us argue and fight tonight, but it’s not going to happen. We’ll be showing teamwork out there tonight – we’re great friends, and we’ve got no reason to squabble. We’ll have a great time going against each other at Iron as well, even if my title is at stake. We’ll get to find out who the best woman is.” “I hope you don’t get too upset when it’s me – and I take your title. I promise to look after it,” Joanne said, laughing. Alicia laughed as well. “That’ll be the day – but we’ll have fun finding out for sure. Let’s go!” (D) “We honestly couldn’t care less about Iron,” Steph Blake declared. “We’re just here to prove that we belong. Strong’s been tied up with Harper and Fish for so long, she seems to have forgotten that we exist. Well, tonight she’ll get a painful reminder. And if Joanne From The Block wants to stick her wide load where it’s not wanted, I don’t suppose that taking out the number one contender would hurt very much, either.” Raven Nightfall, who had until that point stared silently at the camera, smiled. “And when we have them down,” she whispered, “we’ll find out exactly how much courage and spirit they have in their veins...” Nightfall licked her lips to emphasise her point, as Blake shrugged eloquently (D) Raven Nightfall and Steph Blake def. The match was back and forth action, with all four women getting a decent amount of time to show their stuff. However, both Strong and Rodriguez seemed intent on getting an early lead in showing themselves superior to their Iron opponent. This lead to a miscommunication when Rodriguez blind-tagged in, stopping Alicia from getting the win. As Strong looked for an explanation, Nightfall dropkicked her into Rodriguez, cracking their heads together. DC Rayne The twin series between Strong Mayhem and Natural Storm kicked off with the stronger match – relatively speaking. Former Heavyweight champion Rayne hasn’t wrestled many singles matches of late, in fact, it’s more than a year since his last one. Erik Strong had been in tag teams exclusively for three years, but he put on the stronger showing here, taking the win with a Strongsault in spite of Rayne’s attempts to cheat his way to victory (D) Eddie Howard def. Rayne hit ringside early in the match, and lingered long enough to blast Mayhem with a title belt while Howard distracted the ref, earning Natural Storm their revenge as Howard got the pin, and Natural Storm confirmed their reputation as being among the dirtiest players in the game (E+) With Mayhem down, Natural Storm swung into action, beating down the helpless Mayhem with a series of double-team attacks until Erik Strong, clearly furious at his team being cheated of another victory, hit the ring with a chair to break things up (F+) “That’s enough!” Steve Smith slid into the ring and put himself between Strong-and-chair and Rayne-and-Howard, thus earning his hazard pay for the night. Flash and Casey are two of the best all-rounders in MAW, and worked well together, without overshadowing the rest of the card. Casey’s reasons for facing Jean Cattley at Iron would have been killed off if he’d won – so guess who took the duke with a Flash Bang? (C) “So let me get this right. The guy I just beat, who hasn’t won a match in six months, is going to be at Iron, facing a guy who hasn’t won in nearly a year. Now, I may be wrong, but it seems like I, who have a pretty decent record, could do with a match. Luckily, Miyazaki over on Assault is giving out matches – and I’m only too happy to throw my hat into the ring. People keep saying that they’re going to Iron for titles, or revenge, or to sort out some personal issue. Not me – I’ll be there because I love to perform, and I love to make you fans feel like you got your money’s worth. And I can’t help but feel that Miyazaki and me? We might just steal the whole damn show!” (D) Hugh de Aske def. Roderick Remus Roderick Remus was making his return to MAW here, after having been given a chance to develop away from a place where he was only ever likely to work one or two matches a year. Develop he did, and he looked very competent here against the company’s most successful pirate. Hugh is on fire right now, though, and just had a little too much for the returning Remus, taking the win with a Skull And Crossbones (C-) “So there’s one match left this month. And guess what, amongst all the hype and fuss about the Keith brothers crying over who gets most toys, and some blonde fool who’s getting in the face of Joanne Rodriguez - J-Ro, if you’re listening, how beautiful would our babies be?” Perez laughed, but stopped abruptly. “Let me make this clear: Amongst all the hype about other matches, someone seems to have forgotten that I don’t have an opponent. So here’s the deal, a one-off offer, a chance of a lifetime for someone to step up and prove that they have the cojones to hang with the P-Dawg himself. Anyone, at all, who can wrestle, is invited to take me on at Iron. I don’t care who you are, I don’t care what your record is, I don’t care if you’ve never won a match, or never lost a match. I’m not going to be disrespected by not appearing at the big show” (C-) MAW Heavyweight Title Frankie Perez def. Amazing Fire Fly After a promo like that, there was no realistic way that Perez was going to drop the title here – but the match provided invaluable big-match experience for the fast-rising Fly, whose wages have risen from $100 to $800 a show in the last year. Still, he’s worth it, particularly when placed against a superior worker like Perez. These two click when in the ring together, the more experienced Perez leading Fly well. Perez took the win with a P-Clutch (C+) Show overall: C * Disappointing crowd at the Sweat Box. We may stick to the Rainbow until the twin recession/death of interest in wrestling turns around. One for the accountants to decide, I guess, although making a few more bucks might not be worth losing the ambience of a sold-out arena. As for the show itself, if all else fails, use a tried and tested match to finish off an otherwise unmemorable card with a flourish. July saw us lose $8,500 or so. Rip seemed downbeat, but positive, if such a combination is possible. It seems that so long as losses stay on the low side of five figures, Rip stays sober. Staying at the Betty Ford clinic would be cheaper, I’m sure... * Warlord Agony, Larry Vessey, Pistol Pete Hall, Jason Rogers, Crusher Ichihara, Kimitada Oshishi, Lioness Mushashibo and Alpha Female have all announced that August will mark the end of their active careers. Can’t imagine what’s made that many workers call a halt... * On a similar note, cost-cutting here at MAW sees “Crippler” Ray Kingman released from his contract as a Road Agent. Referees David Poker and Dewey Libertine were let go as well. Female workers Suzanne Brazzle, Kristabel Plum, Thunder Hike and Raven Nightfall, who are among the top earners after Wanda Fish, are to be let go at the end of their contracts. Unlike Fish, they weren’t fully justifying their wages. * Several workers have inked deals in the last couple of months. Ultra Fly, Sterling Whitlock, Red Cell, Reggie Bishop, Jack Butler, Xavier Reckless and Bradley Blaze have all been assigned to the Wrestling brand where they will be sharing dark time with existing undercard workers Morgoth, Silencer, Tiger Fuyuki, Kiemon Yoshimatsu, Joey Beauchamp and “Stormy” Cal Sanders as we look for viable tag teams to boost the tag ranks – which currently comprises a less-than-ideal four teams... *
Chord Chat Welcome everyone, I’m Rip Chord, owner of MAW. I’ve been asked to present a special edition of Chord Chat to help bring everyone up to date with the matches to be held at Iron, including some that have been made since Summer Lovin’ finished. The matches are as follows: MAW presents: Iron Confirmed matches: “Machine” Jean Cattley vs. James Casey In a match unkindly dubbed Battle of the Losers, MAW mainstays Catley and Casey face off. The two have faced one another many times before in singles matches, and always come up with the goods. One of these men will leave Iron feeling better about themselves after their recent poor runs without a win between them. I plan on enjoying this match, as they always put on a good one. MAW Tag Team Titles – Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match Strong Mayhem vs. Natural Storm These two teams have faced off many times over the years, but at Iron the bar is being raised that much higher. The titles will be suspected fifteen feet above the ring, and the two teams will have to climb a ladder to reach them – while avoiding being driven through one of the tables, or cracked over the skull with one of the chairs that will surround the ring. This one promises to be an all-out war, folks. Steve Flash vs. Shingen Miyazaki Two of our most consistent workers line up in this battle, which is all about pride and being seen as one of MAW’s best workers. Miyazaki made the challenge, and Flash was as quick as his name would suggest in accepting it. Flash has promised a great match here, and I can expect nothing less from two workers who have seen and done nearly everything there is to see and do in this business. Wanda Fish vs. Sayeed Ali I’ve given the Chiefs of Staff a lot of leeway in the manner in which they manage their brands, and nowhere has this given me greater concern than Marv Earnest’s management of the Militant brand. Specifically choosing a brand name to belittle the competitors he watches over, he’s followed that insult up with attempts to injure his workers with handicap matches, and now by pitting Wanda Fish against Sayeed Ali. If Fish walks out of the ring unaided at the end of this match, I’ll be surprised – but her own actions won’t have won her much sympathy as she faces the ferocious Ali. Shane Nelson vs. “Trademark” Thomas Morgan These two workers petitioned me directly for a place on the card, and while I wouldn’t normally encourage them to go over the head of their Chief of Staff, I do love moxie. The dark horse for match of the night, these two superstars are both eager to stake their claim for a shot at the Traditional title in the near future. MAW Traditional Title Greg Keith (c) vs. Matthew Keith Speaking of which, there’s something about family ties here in MAW. These two young men held the tag team titles not too long ago, before losing them to the brotherly duo of Jonnie and Frankie Perez. Both teams are now flying solo, and while Greg and Frankie have won gold, Matthew and Jonnie have yet to do so. Matthew in particular seems to resent this, and the way in which he has pressed for a shot at his brother’s title – while doing everything in his power to keep anyone else from winning it – has stuck in Greg’s craw. If these two can get past the uncomfortable feeling that I am sure each will feel at fighting his brother, we can expect a fascinating battle as these two really do know each other as well as they know themselves. MAW Women’s Title Joanne Rodriguez vs. Alicia Strong (c) When two friends are forced to battle, it always risks damaging their friendship. Joanne and Alicia seemed as tight as any until their last match, when miscommunication cost them victory. Neither woman has seemed willing to do anything that might cost them their friendship – but with the Women’s title on the line, might one of these two fierce competitors leave the friend zone, if it means victory? MAW Heavyweight Title – Open Challenge ??? vs. Frankie Perez Frankie Perez has done everything necessary to keep his hands on his title since winning it at the start of the year. At times phenomenal, at times desperate, and at times just plain lucky, he has shown his willingness to go to any lengths to keep his title. And with seemingly every possible challenger on the Wrestling brand put away, he’s laid out an open challenge for anyone who can wrestle. Perez is confident – but given how he’s sometimes had to cheat to keep his belt, might he putting a little too much faith in his ability to survive? With no idea who’ll he’ll face until they come down the aisle, Frankie’s pride might just have set him up for one giant fall. Thanks for joining us, folks. Having both been champions at the turn of the year, these results represented a tremendous fall from grace for both men, and they sought to remedy this in a spirited technical battle that also saw Casey going airborne, and Cattley busting out a few brawling tricks as each sought to vanquish their long-time opponent. However, it was not to be as, despite some desperately close near falls, the bell rang at the twenty-minute mark to finish the match as a time-limit draw (B) Backstage, and Matthew and Greg Gauge came face-to-face. “Matt, listen, whatever happens out there tonight, you’re my brother. At the end of this, I’ll still have your back.” Matthew looked nonplussed. “Greg, right now, you’re not my brother. A chair-assisted tope from Mayhem aside, the weapons didn’t enter the frey unil the fifth minute, at which point Mayhem and Strong used a ladder to clothesline Howard and Rayne. From that point on, the two teams stopped at nothing in their race to the belts. Howard was caught between two ladders, only for Rayne to hit Storm Damage on Mayhem onto a chair. Mayhem was down for some time, but re-entered the fray with a stunning dive from a ladder placed at ringside onto both members of Natural Storm inside the ring. The end came when Howard sacrificed himself, leaping from one ladder in the corner of the ring, and drilling Mayhem with Howard’s End to take both men from the match. Strong managed to climb the ladder and had the belts in his hands, but Rayne yanked the ladder from underneath him. As Strong hung helplessly in mid-air, Rayne attempted to nail him with a ladder, but Strong was able to avoid the collision. Dropping from the belts, Strong hit a beautiful hurricanrana on Rayne that sent him flying into and through a table propped in the corner. Strong grabbed Rayne’s ladder and slowly, painfully set it up in the middle of the ring, climbing it without interruption to grab the belts (D-) Although obviously bitterly disappointed, Rayne and Howard helped Mayhem and Strong to their feet and shook their hands in a remarkable display of sportsmanship which earned the crowd’s approval. All four men raised their hands to take their plaudits. Natural Storm were on their way out of the ring, when Howard was sent crashing through the ropes to the floor by a ladder shot to the back of the head from Strong Mayhem. Rayne met no better luck, as his opponents each seized a chair and sandwiched his skull between them. Strong Mayhem collected the title belts and walked away, leaving the crowd dumbstruck (E+) Backstage, and Greg Keith happened upon Jean Cattley dispiritedly removing his boots. “Jean, you okay?” “Hey Greg. I just couldn’t do it. I think it may be time for me to walk away. I can’t cut it here any more.” “What? Neither man established a significant advantage until Miyazaki launched a thunderous right hand that knocked Flash goofy and allowed Miyazaki to lock him down for several moments in an impressive display of chain wrestling. Flash eventually came back with several quick attacks, chipping away at Miyazaki’s advantage and gaining ground. With the match back on level ground, the two men put on a showcase of back and forth action that came to an end when Miyazaki missed a Burning Wizard, and turned around into a Flash Bang for the Flash victory (C+) “The Trademark had to ask for a match at Iron, which is simply ridiculous. But now that the match is here, I am not one to waste my chances. The win will be mine. Shane Nelson may be a big name in whatever hole he comes from – but I am the Trademark!” (C) Shane Nelson vs. “Trademark” Thomas Morgan Trademark he may be, but Morgan doesn’t have the patent on high speed offence. Maybe Shane Nelson does, as he blitzed Morgan from the off. Morgan took several minutes of this, before abruptly grabbing Nelson’s hair and snapping him to the mat, back of the head first. Morgan used every cheap trick in the book, beating Nelson to the mat and keeping him grounded, working over Nelson’s right knee and ankle to prevent him from using his speed against him. Morgan clamped on a Stretch Muffler to try and gain a submission victory, but Nelson was able to reach the ropes. Morgan went for the Morgan’s Finest, but Nelson reversed and rolled through for two. Nelson rolled through again and clamped on a Full Nelson, only for Morgan to drive his foot into Nelson’s ankle. Nelson buckled, and Morgan broke the hold, spinning around and catching Nelson in the Morgan’s Finest only for Nelson to use his momentum to roll over Morgan’s shoulder and, before Morgan had the chance to react, hit a Full Nelson Bomb for the win (B-) A hype video played, telling the story of Matthew and Greg’s history with the Traditional title (D-) MAW Traditional Title Greg Keith (c) vs. Matthew Keith As expected, these two brothers knew each other’s moves inside and out, and the first few minutes were a parade of reversals and counters. Matthew finally grew frustrated and clotheslined Greg hard to the mat. Greg popped up and slugged Matthew hard in the face. Matthew fired back, and the two traded blows back and forth. Matthew whipped Greg into the ropes and hit a high dropkick, sending Greg back into the ropes, and tied himself in the. Matthew stared at his helpless brother, and for a moment seemed to be considering exploiting his advantage. But he proceeded to untie him, and restarted the match on an even keel. The two brothers went back and forth some more, and Greg took the lead with a series of quick strikes, terminated abruptly by Matthew catching him a low blow. Matthew seemed surprised, and didn’t press his advantage, instead checking on his brother. Greg slapped his brother, and shoved him away, into the ref. Matthew seemed to barely notice as the ref dropped, instead hitting Greg as hard as he could, and following up with a kick to the gut and a piledriver. Covering Greg, he noticed for the first time that the ref was down. Looking over to Greg’s corner, he saw that the Traditional title was lying on the mat. Getting up, he walked over and picked it up. Turning back to Greg, he watched as his brother struggled to his knees, the whole time holding the belt ready to strike. Seeing Greg struggling, Matthew turned away, but when Greg grabbed his shoulder, Matthew spun around and planted the belt squarely on his brother’s jaw. Matthew covered again and this time, the referee was awake – and as long as it took him to count to three, there was no way that Greg was getting up. Matthew celebrated his win without a glance at his brother, and made his way to the back as Greg used the ropes to pull himself upright, glaring defiance at his traitorous twin (C-) “Alicia Strong is my best friend - and one of the finest wrestlers around. Both workers attacked from all angles, displaying their incredible versatility. Neither were prepared to give any quarter, giving their all for twenty minutes of non-stop action. The action at times was brutal, spilling out to ringside as the referee threatened to count both women out. Strong rolled back into the ring, but when Rodriguez climbed onto the apron, Strong was quick to jump her and send her flying back out to ringside, where she collided painfully with the announcers’ table. Despite Rodriguez clearly having been injured from this move, it was impossible to separate the two. However, whenever Strong was on offence, she zeroed in on Rodriguez’ wounded leg. Despite this, the action remained desperately close. Even when Strong clamped on the Stronghold, no-one thought that the match was over. But J-Ro was stuck in the centre of the ring, and Strong was in no mood to let go. After several agonising minutes in which Rodriguez did everything she could to try and break free, and Strong did everything she could to counter, J-Ro had no choice but to tap out (C) With the match over, Strong helped J-Ro to her feet. The two embraced, and Rodriguez’ raised Strong’s hand. Strong propped Joanne up, and helped her friend to the back, pausing at the curtain so that both could wave one more time to the fans (E+) Frankie Perez stood in the ring, looking confident. “Plain and simple, esses – Frankie Perez is MAW’s finest. Hey – I’m in the main event, and they don’t even know who I’ll be facing. I am the Heavyweight champion, I carry Wrestling on my shoulders – and everyone knows it. The two men traded the advantage back and forth, unleashing scores of flawlessly executed and often-innovative moves in front of a crowd hitting its peak. Perez seemed surprised at his challenger’s pedigree – but he shouldn’t have been. Hugh has been on a roll in MAW of late, and has put together some great matches. He did so here, pushing Perez to the limit and not giving a step as he went toe to toe with the more experienced, and better known champion. If de Aske made any mistake in his approach to the match, it was in not showing his opponent sufficient respect. Perhaps underestimating Perez’ ability, given his tendency to cheat, he seemed nonplussed when Perez was able to outwrestle him around the twenty minute mark, and never really regained the advantage. Although the remainder of the match was close, Perez always had a slight edge, and finally took the win – just – with a Perfect Parity to cap a tight defence and bring a close to the show (B) Show overall: B- * And yes, that’s the best card we’ve ever put together. * Successful turn, title win, decent angles – yep, Matthew Keith becomes the first person to hit B momentum for MAW. With three former tag team champions in the ring, it wasn’t that surprising that it was an enjoyable contest which Antonio won with an Italian DDT on Perez for a clean victory (D-) Suddenly, from nowhere, Matthew Keith and Shingen Miyazaki hit the ring and started wailing on Antonio and Speed. The weary faces were easy meat for their attackers, who were only driven off when Jonnie and Ash surprisingly helped their opponents by facing off with the champ and his partner. Keith and Miyazaki backed off, laughing, as Ash and Jonnie helped Speed and Antonio upright and to the back (F+) Shane Nelson vs. Mark Smart Mark Smart is a young up-and-comer whose time is yet to come here in MAW. Learning from the likes of Shane Nelson in matches like this is good for him, as there’s a lot he can pick up from a pro like Nelson. Smart had his moments here, but it was Nelson who took the duke with a Full Nelson for the submission win in a very enjoyable match (C-) Backstage, and Greg Keith and Jean Cattley were on camera: “Tonight I teach my brother that playing fair didn’t end when Mom and Dad weren’t around to keep an eye on us. And to help me out, I’ve got Jean on my side – and tonight’s the night that Jean ends his streak for good. Tell ‘em, Jean.” Jean shot Greg an indecipherable look before turning to the camera. “Greg’s right. Tonight we win the match – and when we do, I think it’s only fair that Greg gets his rematch, next month, at Thanks For Nothing” (D) Ernest Youngman vs. “Trademark” Thomas Morgan A strong showing in his debut for the young Ernest Youngman, whose cool appearance and calm approach was immediately impressive, especially to the young females in the audience. He impressed in this match, as well, holding his own against the well-travelled Morgan, whose attempts to belittle and intimidate his younger opponent with arrogant poses and cheap shots were met with full-on attacks and impressive technical wrestling. Morgan was equal to the challenge, once he realised he had a real fight on his hands, and came back with his own offence, prior to tricking the inexperienced Youngman into a premature corner charge, and snaring him as he staggered out of the corner with a Morgan’s Finest for the win (C) Matthew Keith came out and showed off his Traditional title, before taking the mic: “Yada yada, blah blah, play fair, don’t cheat, don’t live, don’t move outside the white line, white bread, no frills, no thrills lifestyle that you’ve chosen for yourself, little brother. Well, fine. You want a rematch? I’ve got it on record – you’re exercising your right as former champion, provided you win tonight. I don’t think I’d lose if I were facing you on my own, and with Shingen Miyazaki as my partner? Forget about it. But if you do win tonight, you’ll get your match – but I get to choose the referee!” (E) Casey Valentine vs. Mikey James Mikey James exploded out of the blocks in this match, displaying his hi-octane offence against the Traditional champion from the off. Valentine had the fans in his corner, but it wasn’t enough as he repeatedly looked outclassed, struggling at times even to keep track of James, whose pinball-like attacks kept Valentine off balance, prior to a Patent Pending that earned him the win (C-) A short video played on the big screen, bringing the fans up to date with the story of the upcoming match (E) Greg Keith and Jean Cattley vs. Matthew Keith and Shingen Miyazaki Four of MAW’s finest took to the ring for the final match, with the Keith twins wasting no time in tearing into one another. Cattley and Miyazaki were left on the apron for much of the match, as neither brother seemed interested in staying out of the action. The advantage seesawed back and forth, as the Keiths were intent on causing each other so much damage that they took risks where normally they wouldn’t have done, including Greg hitting clothesline by the ropes that carried both men over the top rope, and crashing to the floor below, leaving Cattley and Miyazaki to finish the match. The two men went back and forth, but whereas the Keiths had been fairly even, Cattley had the clear advantage. The fans were watching in breathless anticipation, willing Cattley to win, but expecting him to lose – at least, until Cattley hit a Mood Swing for the pinfall win – his first in eleven months! She’s actually one of the hottest workers, in terms of momentum, on our roster. Sally Anne Christianson, on the other hand, hasn’t been doing much beyond taking bumps and staring at lights. Still, she’s a talented wrestler and took the fight to Makiko gamely. The women put on a great match, before Christianson found herself trapped in a Bow Of The Huntress, with no choice but to tap (D+) Sara Marie York vs. Saeko Hiroyuki Sara Marie is another talented worker who’s had a relatively quite first few months in MAW, while her opponent arrived with no fanfare at all. Still, sometimes it’s the dark horses that you have to watch, and so it proved here as the two put on an enjoyable match brought to an abrupt end by an Energy Burst from York (D) Joanne Rodriguez vs. Stephanie Wade Rodriguez rebounded well from her disappointing loss to Alicia Strong at Iron in this match. The much-admired Latina took it to the up-and-coming Wade from the opening bell. Wade fought back well, showing impressive flashes of form, but ultimately fell victim to the always-impressive J-Rocker as Rodriguez got back on track (C) Wanda Fish strode down to the ring looking angry, her cheek still tinged slightly purple from the beating she took from Sayeed Ali at Iron. She snatched the mic from the ring announcer: “Two months ago, I formed a united front with Suzanne Brazzle and Grace Harper. We defied that little weasel sitting at the announcer’s desk together. But only one of us got booked against that thug Sayeed Ali. “Three weeks ago, I faced Sayeed Ali in this very ring. I took a beating like I’ve never done before in my life. He’s bigger than me, stronger than me, and he was more vicious than me. And I faced him alone – and when I lost, no-one helped me to the back. “So MAW has spoken – Wanda Fish stands alone. And do you know what? That’s just fine with me. I don’t need Grace Harper dragging me down. I don’t need Marv Earnest’s help to humiliate anyone else. I can do it all by myself. And that starts right now” (C) Yvonne Wright vs. Wanda Fish Stirring promo, sterling performance. Fish dominated from bell to bell, clinically decimating the recent dojo graduate before putting her away with a vicious Blonde Ambition for the easy win (C) “It sounds like Wanda Fish is making excuses – and I can’t help but admire her ingenuity. She didn’t take this belt off me before because she had too many people on her side? You have to admit, it’s original... Wanda, I hope you do make a success of running on your own. I enjoy wrestling you, and I imagine if you’re on your own, I won’t have to watch my back the whole time. “But I shouldn’t look past my opponent tonight. Steph Blake is dangerous. A very experienced professional, who’s always a threat - she even pinned me two months ago, which is why we fight tonight. If she catches me with Blake’s Sever – I’ll be an ex-champion as fast as you can count to three. But I’m ready. I’m a fighting champion, and I’m ready for any challenge coming my way” (D-) MAW Women’s Title Alicia Strong (c) vs. Steph Blake Strong proved as good as her word, fighting hard to put her opponent out early on. Blake fired back hard, using her ferocious brawling talent to keep Strong on the back foot. Blake’s thunderous blows had Strong on the defensive a number of times during the match, and at one point it genuinely looked as though she would have Strong beaten, when a Blake’s Sever put Strong down. But luck was on Strong’s side, and her leg landed under the bottom rope. As Blake remonstrated with the referee, Strong used the time to gather her senses, and clamped on a Stronghold. Unfortunately for Blake, she was nowhere near the ropes, and after struggling to move, she only succeeded in cinching the hold even tighter on herself, leaving her no option but to tap out (C-) Show overall: C- * MAW Autumn Glory Joseph Jerome vs. Nigel Svennssonn Morgoth and Kiemon Yoshimatsu vs. “Stormy” Cal Sanders and Sterling Whitlock MAW Tag Team Titles Canadian Blondes vs. Strong Mayhem Amazing Fire Fly vs. James Casey MAW Heavyweight Title Eddie Howard vs. Frankie Perez (c) Predictions always welcome!

Jerome stayed one step ahead for much of the match, but was unable to catch Svennssonn long enough to put him away. The intelligent Svennsonn eventually blasted Jerome with a Running Knee Drive, which put Jerome down almost from out of nowhere to take the win (D-) Morgoth and Kiemon Yoshimatsu vs. “Stormy” Cal Sanders and Sterling Whitlock More experimentation as we search for more tag team combinations. They used every tactic, taking apparent delight in those cheapest and dirtiest. Strong in particular seemed to take vindictive pleasure in delivering the beltshot to the back of Flash Savage’s head, which the distracted referee missed, and which was sufficient to allow the champs to retain (D+) “Beautiful, just beautiful,” James Casey declared, joining Strong Mayhem in the ring. The hobbled Fly was easy prey for the vicious Casey, who did his best to destroy the exciting and soaring Fly’s offensive ability. Wrapping Fly’s leg around the ringpost, Casey clamped on a figure four that had Fly tapping – but as the move was illegal, he had to carry on. Casey stalked his opponent, driving his knee into the mat again and again, before nearly tearing the lower half of Fly’s leg from the joint with a spinning toehold for the submission win (C+) MAW Heavyweight Title Eddie Howard vs. Frankie Perez (c) DC Rayne is noted as one of the workers who carried MAW from the beginning, holding the Heavyweight title for about a year before dropping it to Jean Cattley. Tonight gave Eddie Howard his chance to join his partner in the honoured list of champions – just four names in some six years. Perez gave the former tag champion an appropriate level of respect, most unusually for the arrogant Heavyweight champ. The match was an even affair, as neither man is a stranger to big matches, and was a surprisingly clean contest, with Perez only resorting to a single thumb to the eye. As even as it was, though, it came down to sheer class, and as good as Eddie Howard is, the reigning champion had the extra edge in this department, leading to a P-Clutch for the submission win, as Rip on commentary noted that Perez could be great, if he stopped taking shortcuts (C) Show overall: C- * Rip and I stared at one another across the table. “I’ll do the deed kid, if you want,” Rip offered. I shook my head. “I’m the booker, Rip. It’s my responsibility.” Our gaze fell to the list of names lying on the table below us. We had already cut four workers from Militant, after deciding that in the nine months they’d been with us, that they had not probed themselves worthy of their sizable pay packets. Now it was the turn of the men, some of whom were on sizable pay packets, some of whom were just treading water. More than fifty men made up the rosters of Assault and Wrestling, around ten of whom we had no particular plans for, and no particular interest in retaining. Deadwood, fat, excess – call it what you will, these men were taking up roster space that could be put to better use by giving more matches to the men who could work proper matches. *
MAW.com special announcement Mid Atlantic Wrestling wish to announce that they have come to terms on the releases of Daredevil Aero, Cameron Vessey, El Bestia Purpura, Mark Smart, Tempest Appleby, Joey Beauchamp and Joseph Jerome. Antonio finished Vars off with a brutal Italian DDT (E+) After the bell rang, Antonio stared down at Vars before rolling out of the ring. Collecting a chair, he made his way back into the ring, and glared at the referee until he backed off. Raising the chair above his head, he smashed it down on Vars’ prone form several times as the crowd looked on (F) “Good, good,” Matthew Keith laughed, gold belt prominent on his shoulder. “I hope that last month would wake you up. Antonio, you’ve been wasting your life here in MAW. Sucking up to the fans all this time, it’s a damn shame. You’re of Rip Chord’s own protégés, and that means you’re vicious and brutal and never happy unless you’re putting someone down for the count. If Marc Speed follows suit, then the three of us could be an incredible force here on Assault. I’m glad to have you by my side.” Antonio joined Keith by the curtain, and the two shook hands (E+) “People have been asking me ‘Why, Ash, why? It seems like everyone and their mother is going to be lining up for a shot at the champ – and if the champ is Matthew Keith, then I might as well add my name to the list. And you can add Jonnie Perez right after me. Just think about our genes – he’s the Heavyweight champion’s brother, and I am the son of the legend Nemesis. He took the fight to Mikey James from the off, dominating the talented high-flyer. James came back with a flurry of aerial offence that left Campbell staggered. But Campbell is far from incapable in that department, and took to the air himself, dropkicking James as he came off the top rope, before finishing him with a Buzzsaw Kick for the win (D) “Machine” Jean Cattley vs. Nate Johnson Jean Cattley came out to thunderous applause as the fans welcomed the return of the battling MAW original. Cattley soaked up the acclaim prior to tying up with Johnson, who was as focused as ever. The two put on a technical masterclass, impressing the MAW fans, who love a mat war more than almost anything. The finish came when Cattley, who had been focusing on Johnson’s neck all match long, planted Johnson with a Mood Swing for the win (C-) “I’d just like to thank everyone who’s supported me over the last year, when it looked like I couldn’t buy a win at times. It seems like I’ve turned a corner of late. I’ve been training hard, studying my opponents’ matches, and doing everything I can to make sure that I’m the best around. And of course that means I have my sights set on the MAW title – I’d be crazy not to. So with all due respect to Greg Keith, who’s helped me a lot these last few weeks, once he’s settled his differences with his brother, I’ll be putting myself first in line for a Traditional title shot” (D) “God bless Matthew Keith and his wacky ways,” Marc Speed began. “But I’ve been a tag team champion and Rip Chord Invitational champion here in MAW. I didn’t need Matthew Keith’s help to win either of those titles. And the only help I’m going to need from him to win the Traditional title is just to make sure that he’s in the ring at the time. After all, when he taps to the High Speed Crossface, that’ll be all kinds of helpful for my career – almost as much as my God-given abilities in this very ring” (E) Marc Speed vs. “Trademark” Thomas Morgan A back and forth match that saw both men put on a great show. Morgan would be Assault’s top heel if we didn’t have Matthew Keith, while Speed’s talent has made him one of our most dependable workers. Who else could we have turned to when Jim Force needed carrying? The two fought as though they’d grown up together, impressive considering it was their first ever match. Morgan gave everything he had, at one point locking Speed in the Stretch Muffler, but Speed was able to escape, and Morgan’s focus on his legs came back to haunt the Trademark, as Speed clamped on a High Speed Crossface with undamaged arms to take the win (C-) “Well, everyone wants to be the champion. Of course they do – it would mean beating me. But that isn’t easy. Not easy at all. You see, the only person anywhere near me in terms of skill is my little brother, and I think I’ve got him faded. But I’m getting ahead of myself – I have to beat him one last time first, and then I can move on to thinking about who I’ll fight at Where It All Begins Again in December. Now, I did say that I’d choose a very special referee for this match...” The fans chant “Sam! Sam! Sam!” Matthew looked cross. “No, our pop ain’t here. He’s down Mexico way, spinning yarns for the senoritas about how he used to be the greatest wrestler in the world. No, the referee for this match is none other than my very good friend, the Japanese legend, Shingen Miyazaki!” The fans treated this announcement with all the respect it deserved (D-) MAW Traditional Title – Special Guest Referee: Shingen Miyazaki Greg Keith vs. Matthew Keith (c) This match went about how you’d expect it. Miyazaki called the match down the middle, right up until Matthew was in common. Then he was slow to count pins, and quick to count to five when Matthew made the ropes while trapped in a Proton Lock. Otherwise, the twins fairly cancelled one another out, and with no chance of a ref bump, Matthew couldn’t cheat too blatantly. Greg thought that he had the match won with a Full Moon, but Miyazaki might as well have been sleeping, so long did it take him to count to three. Boiling over, Greg squared up to the special referee, giving Matthew all the time he needed to clamp on a Proton Lock of his own – and that was all she wrote, folks, as Miyazaki barely even checked Greg before ordering that the bell be rung (C) Show overall: C- * MAW Ten Things I Hate About You Yvonne Wright vs. Agent 69 Kiko Sakakibara vs. Saeko Hiroyuki Tracy Brendon vs. Dragon Assassin Sara Marie York vs. Wanda Fish MAW Women’s Title Alicia Strong (c) vs. Huntress Makiko 4 from 5 for Emark last time - all predictions welcome!
