Week Three, April 2007 News New York City Wrestling signs Freddie Datsun to a pay-per-appearance deal, which is fair enough given we poached Steve Flash from their roster. NYCW is still only a small promotion though, so we shouldn’t lose access to Datsun unless we’re busted down several levels in popularity. And I’ll be out of a job well before that happens anyway. There are rumors across the USA that wrestlers are starting to think very carefully about their careers, with several members of the old-guard starting to wonder whether it might be time to hang up the boots and leave things to a younger crowd. Apparently an article in an industry magazine, dubbed the 1.4 Retirement Clause, is to blame from the sudden bout of introspection. Exactly what this means to the aging roster of USPW isn’t yet known… __________________ USPW Beachside Bash Live at the Arkansas Coliseum on Wednesday Nights Attendance: 2,000 people (Sell Out!) ____________ Main Show The Lumberjacks are heading out to the ring for their match with Slick Tricks when Lex Appeal and Raphael jump them from behind. Slick Tricks just rode the early advantage the entire way through, however, using their traditional cheating tactics to ensure their win with a Slick Trick Zero. This turned out to be a great match, with both demonstrating the mastery of technical wrestling and psychology that makes them such a valuable part of the roster. Rhino played the part of the dominant powerhouse, while the eternal babyface Flash consistently rallied and fought back from the brink. After months of being ignored by the fans in the South East, Steve finally seems to have caught on with the crowds down south and goes over with the Flash Bang. Mike Murder proves to the weak link in a pretty weak chain, sleepwalking through the match like he’d rather be somewhere else. Joey Poison takes down Giant Redwood with an Antidote Web for the win. Bulldozer is the next generation monster, Strong is simply a super-star in the making, and both Sir Brady and Remus have the kind of growing potential that make them wrestlers to watch. And the faith I had in them was justified when they pulled off such a solid match on the back of the second-teir overness of 'Dozer and Strong. Everyone dog-piled on Bulldozer at the very start of this match, hitting him with a series of moves in order to wear him down and give the others a chance. After that, things broke down a little – Sir Brady focused on Roderick Remus, while Alicia continued her assault on ‘Dozer. Dozer eventually made a comeback, laying out all three of the faces, only to find himself caught in a series of corner dropkicks after Alicia sent him tumbling with a drop-toe hold. This left Alicia in the ring with a recovering Sir Brady and Bulldozer at ringside with the national champion, Roderick Remus. Sir Brady locked Alicia into a maryland crossface and tried for the pin, but outside the ring Bulldozer started brutalizing Roderick with the National Title Belt while Shane Sneer shouted encouragement. Sir Brady loosened the submission hold a tad too much, his attention distracted by seeing the title he'd only recently lost being disrespected in such a way, and Alicia took the oportunity to kick out and take control. She hit the Strong Arm Tactic on Sir Brady not long after and covered him for the win. Result: Alicia Strong defeated Bulldozer, Sir Brady, Prince of Maryland and Roderick Remus in 11:52 when Alicia Strong defeated Sir Brady, Prince of Maryland by pinfall with a Strong Arm Tactic. Rating: C- ____________ Freddie Datsun is backstage, talking to the backstage crew, when Brimstone flies into shot and connects with a spinning kick on the back of Datsun’s neck. DJ had a good showing, but T-Rex put him away after a couple of minutes. Result: T-Rex defeated DJ Grayson in 7:56 by pinfall with The Extinction. Rating: C- ____________ Madman Boone is walking around backstage, talking to himself and twitching, occasionally hammering his head into a nearby wall. He turns a corner and runs into Bruce the Giant. Boone: Big man. Very big. Bigger they are, the harder they fall. Boone wants to take you down, big man. Boone’s a crazy man…A crazy, crazy man. Boone wants to fight you, Big Man. Boone stick a fork in your eye. The voices tell him to do that, you know. Boone and the forks. Boone and the fires. Boone and pain. Bruce: Boone, mate, shut-up. You can try this creepy crap all ya want, but it ain't going to do a thing to rattle a monster like me. He dominates the match from the outset, but has trouble putting the tenacious Datsun away. The first pinfall comes after a hellfire kick at the ten minute mark, but the elusive second fall hasn’t happened after three attempted covers and two additional hellfire. An agitated Brimstone grabs his kendo stick from ringside and cracks Datsun over the head with it while Baby Jamie’s attention is distracted by Russ Vinzio at ringside. Result: Brimstone defeated Freddie Datsun in 14:42 by two straight falls, with the final fall happening by pinfall after using a foreign object. Rating: C- ____________ vs. Bruce the Giant vs. Madman Boone Hardcore Rules Madman Boone was like a caged animal in this match, attempting to bite and claw at Bruce in a furious attempt to make him bleed. Bruce retaliated by throwing Boone around the ring like a rag-doll, but Boone always came back twice as hard and three times as crazy. Eventually Bruce picked up the win after a series of Giant Choke slams, but it took four and all Bruce’s considerable bodyweight to keep Boone down for the three. Result: Bruce The Giant defeated Madman Boone in 9:41 by pinfall with a Giant Choke Slam. Rating: C+
Post-Show: An overall rating of C- from the internet crowd, with a lot of complaining about the number of barely recognizable wrestlers that took up time (we had complaints about both Lumberjacks, Steve Flash, Spike and National Title Holder Roderick Remus). No popularity loss this week, which makes for a happy Sam Strong and an employed booker. OOC: And after going back and looking at Chris's predictions, I feel horribly predictable too. Just wanted to say I love your dynasty. It is written very well. I have been reading to catch up on it over the past few days. Can't wait to see Brimstone finnally make it. I think when he does his huge face turn he is going to land a title shot against Rhino Umaga and be the one who carries the compnay into the future. I predict when he is considered main event along with Rhino you will be able to land another TV deal and have them be your top guys. Just my predictions. Also BTW after reading your dynasty I decided to do away with the one I just started up and give it a revamping and start fresh. I also mark hard for Hell Monkey but hate his name. I love the Brimstone name. I decided to find something simlaler and came up with Hellion.
Can't wait to see Brimstone finnally make it.
You and me both. Damn you USPW Crowds (shakes fist) For the record: I was pretty sure we were going to lose Brimmy about this point. The man is booked solid, can only make it to half our shows, and constantly looks like he'll walk out and tour Japan with people who can pay him a full-time salary. Worse, we couldn't book him for any of the big montly shows and that became difficult. Hence his fued with Datsun is being milked for all that it's worth, week-in, week-out. Worse than that - the crowd just doesn't want to get behind him as our top heel. Hell Monkey's just too damn good at violence for our fanbase. We spend most of his matches sending messages for him to slow down. All this would have been there if I'd done up a Creative Meeting post for April, but I was lazy and trying not to foreshadow Alicia's debut too strongly. Hence you get long-winded rambling now :) Good luck with the diary re-vamp; may your North of the Border fanbase dig the repackaged Monkey more than our Florida fans do :)

Danny Jillefski made unflattering comments about the sheer amount of flannel currently in the ring, and Freddie Datsun outshone every other person in the match. Big man clashed, Lumberjack hit a bunch of moves off the top rope, and Peter Valentine was off his game. Everyone was pleased when the Epitome of Perfection was taken out of the match by Joey Poison coming over the guard rail and waffled him with a steel chair. Bruce: You still haven’t beaten me, mate, and you still haven’t held gold in this federation. You want to run away, be my guest. Just know that you’ll be leaving as a two-bit loser that couldn’t hack it with the big boys. Bruce leaves the ring, laughing, and Brimstone turns on Vinzio. Brimstone: I want him. Tonight. Before I leave. Vinzio shakes his head. Vinzio: No can do. Brimstone picks Vinzio up by the lapels and gets in his face. Brimstone: I want him. Vinzio fishes for something in his jacket pocket, and pulls out a sheet of paper. Vinzio: This is your notice, Brimstone. You quit. That means we can’t let you wrestle here anymore. If you were on the books, I’d be happy to book the match, but the law says I can’t. Nothing I can do. The audience cheers and starts chanting from Brimstone to leave. Brimstone puts Vinzio down and eyes the paper carefully. Things went downhill fast, as Warpath eliminated themselves early on after Ace Youngblood attempted to hit a leg-drop from the top rope and got caught by Tribal Warrior. Savage Fury was eliminated when the Demons of Rage double-teamed Java, sending him to ringside with a Demon Slam. The Demons then turned their attention to the super-heavyweight T-Rex and attempted to eliminate him, but they just don’t have the strength to get him over. Peter Valentine, after spending the match staying out of everyone’s way, surprises everyone by picking up the win via a clothesline to Demon Spite. With all the brawling Rhino’s done in his feud with Deadwood everyone seems to forget that he’s also a capable technical wrestler, but the point is driven home when he sends Datsun into the turnbuckle with a perfect drop toe hold and finishes the match with the Rhino Charge. Roderick focused on Joss Thompson, putting on a fluid match that saw both men hit a series of big spots that popped the crowd. Thompson got increasingly frustrated as the match went on, winning a series of technical exchanges only to get a two-count. Roderick got his own two-count after split-leg moonsault, but the near fall only seemed to infuriate Thompson even more. The end came when Remus went to the outside in order to climb the turnbuckles, only to have his leg held in place by Valentine. Thompson took advantage of the distraction to hit the clean cutter, bouncing Remus off the top rope and sending him to ringside. Valentine added insult to injury by kicking Remus while he was down, forcing Baby Jamie to order him backstage. Unfortunately the damage was done – Roderick struggled to get back to his feet, and Thompson was too busy screaming at Jamie for sending his manager away to notice that the Ref was still running the ten-count. He realized at eight that his chance at the title was slipping away, but he couldn’t Remus back into the ring fast enough. Thompson picks up the win via count-out, leaving Remus the national title holder. This was an awkward, stilted match that proved that Steadyfast and Strong have no real chemistry, but the crowd wanted to see Sam’s daughter slap the lounge-lizard silly so badly that they just popped every time Alicia hit even the most awkward move. Paul Steadyfast is still just an overrated jobber with popularity to burn, so he goes down to the Strong Arm Tactic. The crowd roars their approval as the USPW owner takes of the headphones and heads into the ring. Shane Sneer tries to get in the old mans way, but Sam takes him out with a Strong Arm Tactic. Bulldozer doesn’t notice Sam coming, despite one of the most thunderous roars of approval USPW has ever had, and gets taken out by a second Strong Arm Tactic. Sam rolls Bulldozer out of the ring and stops him from getting back in while the paramedics hit the ring with a stretcher. Things started fast and furious as soon as the bell rang, with Boone going for Grayson like a crazed maniac. It was obvious from the outset that he didn’t much care about winning, he simply wanted to kick Grayson’s butt and make Seduction’s charge bleed. There were a series of stiff blows to the head, mounted punch flurries, and attempts to put Grayson into the ring-post headfirst. Grayson, to his credit, managed to hold his own against the rampaging Boone, constantly foiling the Madman’s assault with his own reckless offense. The two brought out the best in one another yet again, and Seduction looked extraordinarily pleased with herself at ringside. The end came when Boone completely snapped. He caught Grayson as the high-flyer came off the top rope, taking him to the mat and locking in a choke that he refused to break. Grayson started turning blue as Baby Jamie DQ’d Boone and tried to pull the Madman off. Seduction rushed to the ring as soon as Boone cleared out, a first-aid kit in hand and a manic gleam in her eye as she started tending to Grayson’s wounds. Brimstone would come at Bruce with a flurry of punches and kicks. Bruce would take the punishment, pick Brimstone up, and then slam him into the mat. Brimstone would go to the top rope and hit a big move; Bruce would take it, pick Brimstone up, and then slam him into the mat. Brimstone would sweep Bruce off his feet with a judo throw, lock in an arm lock and try for the submission. Bruce would take it, pick Brimstone up, then slam him into the mat. The match left little doubt that Brimstone was throwing everything he had at the Giant, but it just wasn’t enough. Bruce took it, then threw Brimstone around like a child’s toy, although it still took three giant choke slams in a row to put Brimstone down for the count. Madman Boone is fitting into place in the roster, despite the fact that I primarily hired him as jobber fodder for the main event. Paul Steadyfast is falling into place precisely because he’s good jobber fodder for the main event. Giant Redwood had one of his rare D- matches tonight, which continues to justify his presence on the card for reasons other than his friendship with the boss. Peter Valentine continues the traditional Vinzio-Era feud-you-get-whether-you-care-or-not. Brimstone looks like he’s going to stay, although we’ll only be getting him in a reduced capacity due to his other commitments. My goal leading up to Declaration of Independence is to rebuild some of the programs I’ve let lapse over the last month or two, with a particular focus on giving the always delivering workhorse of DJ Grayson something to do other than job to people with less talent.
Matches announced for Urban Mayhem, This Friday Night Dog Fyte vs. Steve Flash The Lumberjacks vs. Cameron Diggler and Paul Steadyfast Warlord Pain vs. T-Rex Captain USA vs. Tribal Warrior Mean Jean Cattley vs. Bruce the Gaint Alicia Strong vs. Bulldozer

It was up to Diggler to put up the majority of the offense for his team, as Steadyfast seemed more interested in chatting up Melissa Melons at ringside than he was getting involved in the action. Diggler would get double-teamed by the Lumberjacks, falling prey to Big Tree Falling twice, and it was only the excitable bouncing and pointing of Melons that convinced Steadyfast to get involved in the match and break up the three-count. Around seven minutes in, an angry Diggler virtually threw his partner into the ring and forced him to get involved. While Diggler started yelling at his valet, Steadyfast hit the Lumberjacks like a house on fire. He took both Cal and Kash down with a series of suplexes, then picked up the three-count using a Slingshot Suplex on Cal. The Lumberjacks almost looked confused as they came to the realization that they’d lost, but mostly they just looked stoic. Paul Steadyfast licked his index fingers and smoothed down his eyebrows before inviting Melons into the ring to celebrate along with Diggler. Peter Valentine did his usual chanting and yelling of orders at ringside, and people actually seem to find him entertaining when T-Rex wrestles rather than letting him fade into the background as he does when accompanying Joss Thompson and Mean Jean Cattley to the ring. Pains first real sniff at offense came due to a desperate rake to the eyes when he was caught in a bear hug, forcing T-Rex to set him free. The wily veteran proceeded to try and take the big man down while he was blinded, sending a series of kicks into T-Rex’s knee that actually knocked him down to one leg. Warlord came in close, smelling victory and preparing to hit a lariat, but T-Rex recovered long enough to snatch Pain up in a Jurassic Crush and force him to submit. Tribal Warrior fought back just as hard, and managed to put up the kind of offense that makes Captain USA’s half-hearted punches and bodyslams look worthwhile. I keep forgetting that Warrior is the growl-and-look-menacing half of Savage Fury – it’s Java that actually has an idea about what’s required in the ring. The Captain is going through one of his bi-weekly periods of overness in Tri-State, which saves this clash from being a total waste of time, but its eminently forgettable. Bruce managed to plant himself and block every throw and leg sweep, maintaining a vertical base for most of the match. There was a comic series of attempted shoulder blocks by Cattley that ended when Bruce used a big boot to knock his opponent down, and there was an attempt at a Russian leg sweep that ended just as badly. Alicia retreated back into her usual defensive strategy, focusing on countering rather than attempting to control the match, and using the occasional counter-attack to wear down her opponent while waiting for the opening she’s looking for. The end result was a tense, even exchange with both people taking the advantage over the last seven minutes, and it quickly became apparent that both sides were looking for a high-impact maneuver that would end it. Strong hit the Strong Arm Tactics, but Bulldozer wouldn’t stay down. Bulldozer retaliated with the Back Drop Driver a minute later, but Alicia kicked out a hair’s breadth before the three count came down. Alicia finally hit the Angel Driver and it still wasn’t enough, but a second Angel Driver thirty seconds later put Bulldozer away. Result: Alicia Strong defeated Bulldozer in 14:55 by pinfall with an Angel Driver. Rating: C ____________ The last match has obviously taken a lot out of Alicia, and she’s on rubber legs as Baby Jamie holds her hands up for the crowd. The cheers turn to boos as Bulldozer pushes himself upright, obviously in better condition than Strong, and vents his frustration by dragging her to the ropes and choking her. Baby Jamie tries to pull Bulldozer off the young woman, but all he earns is a backhand blow that sends him flying away for his troubles. Bulldozer looks at the announce table next to the ring, points at Sam Strong, then picks up Alicia and piledrives her onto a steel chair. Sam Strong roars to life at this, charging Bulldozer for the second time in a week. Bulldozer backs off, scurrying away from the USPW owner and laughing. Strong keeps chasing Bulldozer as he darts over the guard rail and through the crowd, leaving the crowd cheering for the old man as medics come down to ringside with the stretcher.
Fun read, as always. Looking forward to your next cards~
Thanks; I'm pretty happy with the next couple of cards, if only because we've now taken the first step towards Captain USA's best match ever. And since I'm doing the forshadowing thing anyway - I just hit my first B rated match using nothing but USPW originals. It's not going to appear in the diary until the latter half of 2007, but it is coming.

I wasn’t holding my breath – the economy was dropping along with the wrestling industry, and it’s not like our popularity had improved since our last attempts. Sam decided we’d have the creative meeting while we were putting together the pitches, so we had plenty of time to discuss things over the looming eight-hour day it took to get the tapes into envelopes. We started with the obvious: “How’s Alicia doing with the fans?” I gave Sam a broad grin; it was rare that I was going to give him good news at these meetings. ‘She’s fitting in fine,’ I said. ‘The fans love her; they’re treating her as your second coming, and the fact that we’ve got an excuse to get you interacting with the talent as part of a storyline seems to have folks pleased. They aren’t sure they want to see you wrestle, of course-‘ ‘I’m not sure I want to see me wrestle,’ Sam said. ‘I’m old, kid, and my legs creak more than I’d like when you’ve got me running towards the ring to save her.’ ‘Well, sure,’ I said. ‘But we wont be doing it often, I promise. The fans like Alicia – hell, they’ve gotten behind her in a way that they haven’t really gotten behind anyone else since I’ve been here – but we don’t want your presence overshadowing her and confusing the issue. We’ll resolve the program at Declaration of Independence, I promise, and I’ll start pushing her in another storyline not long after.’ ‘Good,’ Sam said. ‘I’m telling you now, kid, I’ve only got about fifteen minutes of ring time left in me if that’s where you’re heading with this. Use it wisely.’ He winked and looked down at his ledger. I sat there wondering if I’d imagined it. ‘It looks like you’ve managed to halt the downturn more often than not, and we’re making up some ground on the shows in Queens. Attendance is down-‘ ‘The wrestling industry is shot,’ I said. ‘No-ones coming to shows unless they’re hardcore fans.’ ‘I know that, kid, I’m not an idiot,’ Sam said. He scowled, and whatever goodwill we’d generated by giving Alicia a shot evaporated like sweat in the steam room. ‘What I was about to say, kid, was that attendance is down and we’re losing money, and we’ve got a roster that rivals Richard Eisen’s sitting around wondering when they’ll get used. Stack that with the names you’ve given me that you want to hire, and I got to wonder what you’ve got planned.’ ‘Storylines,’ I said. ‘Building up the talent. We’re bulked up, but that’s because we’re nabbing every alumni we can from the big three in order to keep the attendance up, while we’re still trying to give a bunch of rookies the ring time they need to improve. The slump wont last forever, and neither will some of the old guard – I want to have a bunch of people ready to go if we lose someone.’ ‘I get that kid, but they aren’t,’ Sam said. ‘Ready to go, I mean. There’s too damn many of them, and their identities are getting lost in the crowd. If you think you can combat that, it’s fine, but I’m just saying. I mean, I’m going to trust you on this one, but if it were me, I’d be letting some people go kid. At the very least, I’d be rethinking some contracts when they come due, you know what I’m saying?’ ‘Well, I’d fire Redwood in a hearbeat-‘ Sam sighed. ‘I owe Red,’ Sam said. ‘Quite a bit. That reminds me, kid – Red’s a friend, and his wife pals around with mine. He’s starting to get pissy about the losses he’s taken, which makes his wife unhappy, which makes my life unhappy, and you can see where the circle is leading. The Demons are starting up with the compaints too - Throw them a bone, hey?’ ‘I’ll see what I can do,’ I said. ‘No promises.’ ________________ News Deadwood e-mailed to let me know he’d been contacted about a spot INSPIRE, and he’d basically be a fool not to take it. INSPIRE had the cash to offer him a decent contract, possibly even something full-time, and he’s far more over in Japan than he is stateside. Troy Tornado made the news after failing a steroids test, and there was a flurry of articles about drug abuse in wrestling hitting the media not long after. That was the kind of news that made me nervous – the USPW locker room is hardly a pharmaceutical-free zone. I know Dog Fyte is using, and I have some pretty strong suspicions about Valentine’s physique. Datsun: Okay folks, lets not waste any time, everyone knows why I’m out here. Brimstone didn’t walk out on his contract, which means I’ve got another opportunity to face the demon of the MMA and beat him clean. Brimstone, you can say you beat me two times straight, but you’re still nothing but a cheap bum who can’t take a win without an ambush or an ally. How about we do this one more time, tonight, and we’ll see if you can fight fair. Rating: D ___________ Brimstone’s mist fills the arena and he rappels down from the rafters, kendo stick in hand. Brimstone: Well, Freddie, I guess there’s only one answer I can give to a challenge like that. No. See, I’ve beaten you Freddie. I’ve beaten you clean, I’ve beaten you twice in a row, I’ve beaten you no-holds-barred. You just don’t seem to grasp that fact. So let me put it simple – I’ve got bigger targets in my sights. Tonight I’m doing a favor for a friend and beating the hell out of the Reaper, and next week I intend to be facing Bruce the Giant for that title he’s so fond of. I’m beyond you, Freddie, and I’m not going back. But I have organized a new playmate to keep you busy. Brimstone leaves the ring, laughing, as Rhino Umaga’s music starts playing over the PA. The Samoan enforcer hit Datsuns legs first, taking them out with a series of low kicks and holds that left Datsun limping. When Freddie started firing back with punches, Rhino took out his good arm and left him fighting southpaw. The end came fairly swiftly, despite a valiant effort by Datsun, and Rhino picked up the win with a Rhino Charge. Result: Rhino Umaga defeated Freddie Datsun in 8:07 by pinfall with a Rhino Charge. Rating: C- ___________ We go backstage, where Shane Sneer is knocking on the door to a locker room. There is a muffled roar from inside, and when the door swings open both Demon Spite and Demon Anger are staring down at him. Neither says a word, they just stare at him with stony expressions and a barely restrained sense of violence. Shane doesn’t even break a sweat. Sneer: Gentlemen, I know what’s going on inside your head right now, and I’m sure my skull would seem more attractive with your fists protruding from the far side of it, but I’d ask you to consider something first. See, I know the two of you aren’t happy with your position in USPW, and I know that you aren’t feared the way you used to be. I’ve come to you with a proposition and a plan, and if you’d refrain from murdering me for just a few moments I’d like to explain them both. The Demons keep staring for a few minutes, their nostrils flaring, and now Shane Sneer does take a quivering gulp of oxygen. Finally, Demon Spite stands aside. The native Americans dominate the sartorial wonder twins of Slick Trick, taking them down with a series of slick double-teams and the bellowing encouragement of Micky Starr. Result: Warpath defeated Slick Tricks in 6:49 when Ace Youngblood defeated Raphael by pinfall with a Tomahawk Takedown. Rating: E+ ___________ We cut backstage, where Sir Brady has just rounded a corner and discovered port actress Melissa Melons signing autographs for some of the stage crew. Brady stops in his tracks and stares for a moment, then gets closer. Sir Brady: Excuse me, fair maid, may I beg but a moment of your time? Melissa: Um…what? Sir Brady: Are you are the Lady Melissa? The one who encourages the vile scoundrel known as Diggler? Melissa: You mean Cameron? Sure, I’ve been known to hang with his well-hung eminence. Sir Brady: Nay! Say it is not so? That one of such elegance and grace, a lady of such noble bearing, should bandy words with such a villain is unthinkable! Melissa: Lady? Listen, buddy, it’s been a long time since I’ve been a lady. Sir Brady: So you may claim, gentlewoman, but a true knight may see past the base outer appearance to see the character lurking beneath. A lady I shall call you, for a lady you are. Melissa looks a little dumfounded at that, and there’s the faintest hint of a blush on her cheeks. Melissa: Listen, I’d love to chat, but you know how it is. You’ve got a match with Cam tonight, and he’s still my boyfriend, so we probably shouldn’t be talking. Sir Brady: As you say, lady, though it grieves me to leave with things yet unresolved – I will yet save you from the base clutches of that villain. Melissa walks off, and Sir Brady heads in the opposite direction. After they’re gone, a nearby door opens and Cameron Diggler looks out with an expression of pure hatred on his face. This brings out the fire in the Prince of Maryland, and he retaliates in kind, quickly transforming this into a furious exchange of blows and offensive moves. The two men are fairly evently matched, and it is only really chance that allows Sir Brady to land the Super Bomb for the win. Melissa Melons, still at ringside, looks confused as to whether she should cheer or boo. Result: Sir Brady, Prince of Maryland defeated Cameron Diggler in 7:49 by pinfall with a Super Bomb. Rating: D ___________ Sam Strong comes into the centre of the ring with a microphone. Strong: Let me tell ya, kid, there were a bunch of things that worried me when I let my daughter into this company. I wondered if the fans would accept her; I wondered if she’d really hold her own in the ring. I wondered if she’d be the one to carry on my legacy after I was gone. But the thing I really wondered about, the thought that kept me awake at night, is wondering what I’d do when I saw my little girl get hurt. And I hear ya, kid, wrestling is a tough business. I knew she was going to get hurt, it comes with the territory when you wrestle every week. And I saw my little girl taking her lumps in the ring for those first few weeks, and it didn’t bother me at all. Alicia was just like any other wrestler, and she new the risks when she signed her contract. I treated her like everyone else that worked here – objectively, like a wrestler first, and my daughter second. But Bulldozer – well, kid, I gotta tell ya, he’s pushed the wrong button. What he’s done to Alicia has nothing to do with wrestling, and I can’t be objective. Watching him piledriver her face into the mat, over and over and over again…well, I just snapped. I stopped being Sam Strong, owner of USPW, and I started being Alicia’s father. Tonight, Sam Strong the Father is taking over from Sam Strong the owner, and he’s abusing his powers in a way that I swore I’d never do. Tonight, I’m going to do what I should have done two weeks ago, when I first saw Bulldozer torturing my little girl just to get to me. Tonight I’ve booked myself into a match with Shane Sneer’s golden boy, and I’m going to whip him good for everything he’s done. And let me tell ya, kid, its going to feel damn good when I get my hands on him. Rating: B+ ___________ vs. Mean Jean Cattley vs. DJ Grayson Cattley lived up to his name tonight, ground Grayson early and twisting the young high-flyer into a series of pretzel shapes that had Grayson screaming. Everyone expected a tap within the first couple of minutes, but DJ surprised everyone by refusing to tap and gradually fighting his way into the match. While his usual offense was hampered by the intense opening, Grayson got a chance to show of his continually improving technical skills and brawling, honed after a series of matches against wrestlers like Madman Boone and T-Rex. The momentum swung back and forth several times, with Mean Jean growing more and more frustrated by his inability to put Grayson away. Grayson even started to edge ahead, recovering to the point where he could take the top rope, but Nurse Seduction caused a disruption when she slapped Peter Valentine as he was ranting and shouting orders to Cattley from ringside. As Grayson turned to see what was going on, Mean Jean took advantage and hit the mood swing for the win. Result: Mean Jean Cattley defeated DJ Grayson in 11:58 by pinfall with a Mood Swing. Rating: C- ___________ Robbie Sanchez is backstage with Rhino Umaga and Russ Vinzio. Sanchez: I’m here with Rhino Umaga, fresh of his win against Freddie Datsun and quietly preparing for his steel cage match with the Grim Reaper, Deadwood, come Declaration of Independence in three weeks time. Rhino, how confident are you about facing the scion of death in a fifteen foot tall steel cage. Vinzio: Confident? What, are you stupid? Deadwood is tough, and his night unstoppable, but Rhino has stopped him. And Deadwood isn’t exactly smart, and he’s certainly not fast. There are three ways of winning a steel cage match – pinfall, submission, or escape. We know Deadwood is never going to submit, but Rhino can pin him and we all know Rhino can outrun him. All Umaga has to do is climb over the top before Deadwood does and he’s home free. Rhino slaps a hand of Vinzio’s sleeve. Rhino: No. No escape. This ends one of two ways – Deadwood is pinned, or Deadwood is unconscious. See, the reaper made a mistake, one of his many. He’s fighting me in a cage, and a cage is a weapon. Deadwood may be a hell of a wrestler, but I’m a warrior and a thug. I will milk that cage for all its worth. I’ll bust the reaper open so his skull scrapes across the bars. I’ll smash him into the side so hard he’ll beg for the mercy of death. At Declaration of Independence, there will be no escape. All there will be is pain. Rating: E+ ___________ vs. The Lords of War vs. Savage Fury A good, old-fashioned Lords of War slugfest to start building the champs momentum leading into Declaration of Independence. The older wrestlers dominated this, and the crowd got behind them as best they could during the obvious squash. It appears that Tribal Warrior is starting to wear a little thin with the Savage gimmick, so most of the real heel heat was reserved for Java every time he squared off against Pain. The Lords of War know how to get the job done quick, and their efficient double-teaming was just too much for the savages. Result: The Lords Of War defeated Savage Fury in 6:37 when Warlord Agony defeated Tribal Warrior by pinfall with a War Machine. Rating: D- ___________ The Lords of War are just turning to collect their belts from ringside when there’s a sudden crack and the ring fills with black smoke. There’s the sound of a bow being fired, and two arrows hissing through the air, but its difficult to see anything through the mist. When it clears, the Lords of War are far from the ring, their instincts saving them from the stealth attack. Where they were standing, however, sit two arrows with rising-sun flags fluttering from their tails. An unknown voice with a Japanese accent appears on the loudspeaker. Voice: The first shot has been fired. The war begins. When I arrive, America falls. Rating: D ___________ vs. Deadwood vs. Brimstone Texas Death Match Both these men are professionals with a lot of talent, but they just don’t work well together. A big, hard-hitting brawl which neither man sold well, with mistimed exchanges that saw both men botch a move. While Deadwood normally does a great job of being implacable and impossible to stop, the eventual ten-count came on the tail end of a Hell-fire kick that looked far from effective. The crowd dug it despite its flaws, but everyone involved thought this should have been better. Result: Brimstone defeated Deadwood in 9:40 when Deadwood was pinned and could not beat a ten count. Rating: D ___________ We go backstage, where Alicia Strong is helping Sam Strong get ready for his match. Alicia’s head is bandaged, and she’s wearing a neck brace. Alicia: It’s my fight, dad. Give me a couple of days and I’ll be ready to compete, then I can take care of that gorilla myself. I appreciate the gesture, really, but I can fight my own battles. Sam: Don’t try to talk me out of it, kid, I’ve made up my mind. There are some times when being a father is more important than anything else. Alicia: You shouldn’t be doing this. Bulldozer’s a third of your age, and I’m willing to bet he hits harder than you did in your prime. Sam: I fought people who were stronger than me before, and people that were better ‘en me too. This business ain’t about strength of skill, kid, it’s about heart. And I’ll be fighting for the thing that’s more important to me than anything in the world – it’s hard to compete with that. Rating: B ___________ vs. Sam Strong vs. Bulldozer Sam Strong came out to the cheers of the crowd, Alicia in his corner. Bulldozer came out with Shane Sneer, who promptly took his old position at the announce desk to serve as color on the match. Sam and Bulldozer eyed one another carefully as the ref patted them down for weapons, and they locked up fast as soon as the belt rang. The match was basically Sam Strong by the numbers, hitting all the familiar spots to pop the crowd while allowing Bulldozer to get in enough offense to remain credible. No-one sold particularly well, but realistic offense was never Sam Strong’s strong suite in his prime anyone, so no-one particularly cared. Everyone settled into the nostalgia of it, high on watching the legend Sam Strong in the ring again, even if the match lacked the storytelling and the pace of years gone by. Then, five minutes in, Bulldozer snapped and turned the volume up to eleven. He no-sold the Strong Arm Tactic and retaliated with a discuss clothesline that almost took Strong out of his boots. He scooped the sixty-year-old veteran up and hit a series of back-breakers that almost snapped Sam in two. Then ‘Dozer picked Sam up and put him in position for a piledriver, grinning like a maniac. Jillefski turned face in the commentary, begging Bulldozer to stop while Shane Sneer gloated, and both man wondered if the piledriver would actually kill the USPW owner. That’s the point where Alicia Strong inserted herself into the match. She slingshotted herself over the top-rope in a kamakazi move, drawing comment from Shane Sneer who pointed out the idiocy of such a tactic while wearing a neckbrace. Idiotic or not, Alicia caught Bulldozer in the side of the head with a flying forearm blow that sent him tumbling to the floor. She went down as well, screamming in pain and clutching at her neck. The ring was silent for a few beats as everyone was down, then a groggy Bulldozer picked himself up and laughed. He pointed at Sam as the crowd booed, then pointed at Alicia as they booed even harder, then scratched his chain in an overblown gesture of trying to decide who he'd decimate first. He eventually settled on Alicia, turning his back on the seemingly comatose Sam Strong. The crowd popped as the old man picked himself up, bloodied but alive, and caught the oblivious Bulldozer from behind with the stiffest Strong Arm Tactic the world has ever seen. Bulldozer went down, Sneer screamed in disbelief, and Sam Strong made the cover for the three-count. Rating: C Result: Sam Strong defeated Bulldozer in 6:57 by pinfall following interference from Alicia Strong. ___________ vs. Bruce the Giant vs. Madman Boone Hardcore Rules Shane Sneer spent most of the commentary making dire predictions about Sam Strong’s fate, threatening him with the return of the Sneer Corporation and the decimation of the Sam Strong legacy. The crowd, however, stayed with the in-ring action that saw Bruce and Madman Boone put on an arena-wide brawl that barely let up. Both men knew they were following the return of the boss tonight, and they knew they had to carry this without the benefit of a strong storyline, so they brought their A-Game and hit all the big spots both were famous for. The end came after ten minutes of hardcore action, with Bruce the Giant choke slamming Boone through the announce table. The champ made the cover while glaring at Shane Sneer, then snarled at the sport-agent-turned-temporary-color-commentator as soon as the bell was run. Result: Bruce The Giant defeated Madman Boone in 10:08 by pinfall with a Giant Choke Slam. Rating: C
Post-Show: The internet fans give us a C- for this one, allowing us to once-again keep the fans happy without regaining any lost ground. The marks were largely down on Strong’s presence running roughshod over the show, although the general consensus was that his return to the ring bearable as long as it wasn’t overdone. Sam himself almost seemed invigorated when we caught up with him backstage, slapping Dozer on the back and congratulating him on a solid match. Later, in the post-show meeting, he expressed some private concerns about the recklessness of the rookie – Bulldozer did come pretty close to doing some permanent damage with his offense, and probably needs to work a program with someone who can teach him how to curb his stiffness in favor of safety. This is a strong contrast to Pearce, who gives her boys a quiet talking to in the corner and sets them lose to do what they do best. This was a solid Old Schoo/Kids exchange, with the technical prowess of Flash and Thompson letting them dominate until the Kids started using questionable tactics to distract the referee and double-team their opponents. Vinzio proved to be a decisive factor more than once, getting up on the ring apron several times while the Kids hit a series of brutal double-team moves behind Baby Jamie’s back. Despite the underhanded tactics, Old School always fought back, and for most of the match this could have been anyone’s game. Things really broke down after Kristen Pearce got in the face of Dog Fyte after he was sent over the top rope. Dog grew irritated with having Pearce in his face and slapped her across the cheek. This simple move was enough to push Old School over the edge – both men dove through the ring-ropes to get at Fyte and started pummeling him into the mat. Spike tried to help his partner, landing a flying splash from the ring steps to break up the melee, but all four men recovered and started brawling at ringside. Ref Baby Jamie was forced to count out both teams, and call in security to break up the slugfest. Vinzio: Well, bracing as that was, I think it’s time I got down to a little business. I’m here tonight to talk about Bruce the Giant, and his unwillingness to give the number one contender a title shot. I don’t know who the hell Bruce thinks he is, but that’s just not on. Let me make something very clear for you, Giant – you will face Mean Jean Cattley for the USPW World Title, and there will be no other title matches held until the time and place for that match is announced. And until you make that decision, we’ve given the number one contender complete control over your matches. Jean Cattley can book you against anyone on the USPW roster, and I promise to make it happen. And, for the record, damn. I’d booked this as a throwaway match, something to keep Redwood and Poison going in the ring, and I let Ray Kingman pick the ending. I should have seen the train wreck on the horizon, but there was no way in hell I saw Redwood being picked as the winner here, especially over the current holder of the National title belt. This is my lesson for today – never trust Redwood. The man can’t wrestle, but he’s as wily a politician backstage as there ever was. Worse still, the fact that we’ve been training the audience to ask slightly more of their wrestlers than ‘be really big’ means that the audience was over Red’s giant routine. At least the stupid sack of lard gets his win, so he’ll shop whining to Sam Strong at backyard barbeques. Valentine: Words are the stuff of generals and warlords. An army proves itself by its actions. With that, the Lords of War are suddenly hit from behind. Mean Jean Cattley catches Pain in a mood swing, while Joss Thompson spins Agony around, kicks him in the gut and hits the Clean Cutter. Danny Jillefski’s comment at the opening of this match sums it up nicely: Have you ever really wondered exactly how crazy Boone is? I think we’re going to find out. Deadwood and Boone are both masters of the hardcore style, and though they rarely get a chance to practice it in USPW they were more than willing to take some extreme bumps in order to make this match convincing. They didn’t just pummel one another, they brutalized one another. Deadwood remained calm and impassive, emotionless as he inflicted punishment on his opponent, but Madman Boone laughed like a mad clown for most of the slugfest. It didn’t seem to matter whether he was the one hurting or the one being hurt, he laughed throughout it all. The match ended when Deadwood hit a spike DDT on the concrete floor at ringside, then glared at Baby Jamie until the intimidated ref came down and counted out Boone. Madman Boone lay on the ground, unconscious and bleeding, until paramedics came down to check on Boone. As with most Captain USA matches, it was primarily an overbooked exchange of lackluster punches and clotheslines with a lot of playing to the crowd. Steadyfast did a great job of swaggering about like a sleazy heel, throwing comments out at the audience that would infuriated The Captain and lead to another exchange. The Captain picks up the win because he’s still inexplicably over in Tri-State, despite a series of awful feuds that no-one really cared about. Peter Valentine turns matches into a suckfest just by thinking about them; letting him actually wrestle is just tempting fate. If ever there was proof that the USPW were faithful were starting to bore with watching old men go at it, this clash was it. The Valentine Army holds all the cards, as both Warlords come into the ring with bandages around their head from the earlier assault, but Peter Valentine still struggles to actually do little things like throw a convincing punch. T-Rex does better, but he lacks the kind of in-ring storytelling ability to make this work. Even wounded, the Lords of War put up a solid fight in this match. They are the premier tag-team in the company, capable of some of the most fluid double-teams you’ll ever see despite their advancing years, and T-Rex’s invulnerability is gradually worn away under their combined assault. This means that Valentine actually has to get into the ring, which leads to things going even worse for The Valentine Army, since Peter can neither credibly stand up to a two-on-one assault from wrestlers as skilled as the Warlords nor mount a credible offense that would allow him to dominate. The solution, in the end, proves to be pretty simple. Peter Valentine yells an order, Joss Thompson comes charging out from backstage and takes out Warlord Agony with a Clean Cutter on the top rope. With his partner down, Pain is easy prey for the superior size and strength of T-Rex, and the Valentine Army picks up the win with a Destiny Bomb (aka T-Rex delivering a power bomb while Peter Valentine poses). The Valentine Army are your new USPW World Tag-Team Champions, which probably proves that the booker should be shot on sight. Result: The Valentine Army defeated The Lords Of War in 8:39 when T-Rex defeated Warlord Agony by pinfall with a Destiny Bomb. The champion seems to be moving in slow motion as Thompson darts around the ring, launching a series of minor offensives that aren’t effective enough to put Bruce down, but do chip away at him. Bruce makes clumsy grabs for the smaller Thompson, but never really manages to get a solid grip. Mean Jean grins from his place at ringside, urging Thompson to get in there are do some real damage. Things continue this way for nearly seven minutes, and they’re aided by the chemistry between Thompson and the Giant. The crowd gives the first solid pop since the dark match when Bruce finally gets a good grip on Thompson and pulls him into a bear hug, then goes absolutely ballistic when Bruce raises Thompson up for a press slam. Thompson has better ideas, raking the Giants eyes and dropping to his feet, then landing a surprise Clean Cutter before scrambling for a quick cover. Bruce rolls out at two, but he’s got murder in his eyes as soon as he gets back on his feet. What follows is a semi-comic chase back and forth across the ring, with Bruce putting on bursts of speed as he attempts to catch Thompson again. When that fails, Bruce does the unexpected and launches a flying elbow as he dives across the ring at Thompson (note: Bruce the giant is improving at both flashiness and flying). Thompson takes this as an opportunity to land another Clean Cutter, intercepting the Giant in mid-air, and the ring trembles as Bruce hits the mat. Thompson rolls Bruce up, but Bruce counters (note: he’s improving in technical skills as well) and keeps a solid grip on Thompson as he does so. From there, it’s choke slam city and the champion wins. Week Two Creative Meeting ‘We’re back on the air,’ I said. ‘It’s only one hour a week, but it’ll be giving us some of the exposure we’ve been missing with the weekly shows. This is good news.’ Sam Strong frowned as he looked at the paperwork. He rifled through a few times, scratched his chin, then went back to the front page. ‘Explain to me how this is good news,’ he said. ‘I don’t actually speak Spanish kid; neither does Danny. I thought you were looking for national exposure.’ ‘I was,’ I said. ‘But the national scene is dead all over, and the networks are cautious about signing any new show. Mexico is popping at the moment; signing with Los Deporte Hoy will give us American exposure in the South East while we run shows in Tri-State, and it’ll make a name for us in Mexico. ALL of Mexico Sam – we’ll be setting ourselves up for an international push later down the line. Think of it as the first step towards competing with the big boys.” ‘I’m not learning Spanish,’ Sam said. ‘I’m too damn old to sit in a classroom learning verbs, kid.’ ‘No-ones asking you too, Sam. Trust me, Freedom and Liberty is going to be just what we needed.’ _______________________ News United States Pro-Wrestling has announced that they’ve signed a deal with Mexican television network Los Deporte Hoy to produce Star Spangled Wrestling. The show will be a one-hour showcase screening at midnight on Saturday nights, and the contract currently runs for two seasons. USPW booker Russ Vinzio is said to be excited about the forthcoming June launch. INSPIRE continues their focus on USPW talent, offering EXILE a touring deal. There’s better odds that EXILE will take the deal than Deadwood though – he’s only on a short-term contract at present, and isn’t as overburdened with commitments. There were two Total Extreme Wrestling polls of note this week, with Tommy Cornell being voted the best overall wrestler in the world, and newcomer Davey Wayne Newton dubbed the best new talent to emerge from the indies in recent years. The latter is particularly comforting, since USPW was the first company to see Davey coming and sign him to a deal. Datsun kept using blind tags and run-ins to keep Strong out of the action, but this gradually got on her nerves and she started refusing to leave until Baby Jamie forced her back. The heels, in a stark contrast, worked together like a brutal machine. When it became apparent that the only way to get to Strong was going through Datsun, they simply started wearing the working class hero down. The end came off a hot-tag for the heels. Mick Muscles darted across the ring to knock Alicia to the floor, while Bulldozer scooped Datsun up into the backdrop driver for the win. Cattley: Well Bruce, still no word about when I’ll be getting my title shot, so I guess I get to play booker tonight. Last week you wore down Joss pretty good, and it occurred to me that maybe I was going about this the wrong way. I’m not going to wear you down with my allies; I’m going to wear you down with my enemies. Two birds, one stone. So tonight, I’m putting you in a hardcore match against two of the most dangerous and deranged men USPW has to offer. Rhino took to the task with enthusiasm, methodically working Grayson’s legs for the first half of the match before taking out the back with a series of spinebusters followed by a camel clutch that nearly bent Grayson in two. Grayson responded with a valiant series of punches and an attempted moonsault, but things were already too far gone by that point. Rhino picked up the win with a Rhino Charge, and Grayson was left limping as he left the arena with a satisfied Seductoin. The hardcore rules played to Boone’s strengths, and Brimstone quickly proved that he was no slouch in such an environment, but Bruce’s size and power advantage meant that he gave as good as he got. The highlights of the match largely belonged to Brimstone: a brutal spinning kick to Bruce’s head off the top-rope; a double-team DDT with Boone that was followed up with a chair leg-drop; springboarding off Boone’s back while the Madman was doubled over in order to land the Flames of Hell for the win. A D+ rating, and the first real loss to our home-state popularity in a couple of shows. Just when you think you’re doing better, things conspire to drag you back down. The internet marks were pretty vocal this time around: too much Thomas Morgan, too much Dave Newton. They wanted more of the main event, even though our main event routinely fails to deliver time and time again. The good news that followed the show, however, was EXILE letting us know that he’d refused INSPIRE’s offer. Apparently they just aren’t big enough for him to consider. It's great for us, but I really wonder what the Japanese wonder is thinking. A quick note to EXILE: Dude, INSPIRE is cult. USPW only regional, and the only other company you work for is WEXXV – the sole company in the world that actually makes me feel good about the rate of our declining popularity.
Paul Steadyfast was the plodding veteran of this match, wrestling a technical match that was sound rather than flashy, and he served as an anchor for the big spots and high-impact moves thrown around by Brady and Diggler. Diggler was the first to be eliminated after he was caught in a super bomb by Brady. The prince of porn rolled out of the ring in a fury and tried to lead Melissa away, but she seemed reluctant to leave without seeing who won. Eventually Diggler was forced to drag her by the arm, and his man-handling of a woman seemed to distract Sir Brady. Steadyfast caught Brady with the slingshot suplex and covered him for the pin, earning himself a title shot at Declaration of Independence and another chance to impress Melissa Melons. Most of the match was fought between Rhino and Deadwood, who seemed to have little interest in anyone else in the match, and Bruce largely came in to hit the signature spots and demolish the Demons every couple of minutes. Things broke down towards the end, with all five men engaging in an all-out brawl, but Bruce picked up the win by sending both Demons over the top rope with a double-clothesline, then trapping Umaga in a vice-like grip in order to hit the choke slam. Week Three News Darryl Device is on SFW Power again. He’s now jobbed to Bart Biggz five times while clashing over the Shooting Star title, and has yet to actually get a win in 2007. Despite this, he’s crept into SFW’s lower card and started getting a little more air-time. He should probably thank his lucky stars – fellow USPW alumni Jim Force has been jobbing to Big Smack Scott. The real big news comes just a few hours before we kicked off Beachside Bash, when an smug Sam Strong called to let me know that SWF had dropped to cult size and fired a host of their workers. Among the first round of unemployed: Andre Jones, Jim Force, Mikel Alonso (the wrestler formerly known as Pecs), Knuckles and Shady K, Brett Biggz, Dawn the Cheerleader and announcer to the stars Duane Fry. I hit the phones in a hiring frenzy – most of those released will be unavailable because of Sam’s goals, but the presence of Paul Steadyfast on our roster proves I’m willing to make do with the scraps of the big three if need be. I wonder if I should send Eric Eisen a thank-you note. Dave Newton came out with Shane Sneer in his corner and a lot of bluster, but he had the wind knocked out of him within the opening minutes after Deadwood caught him with a series of clubbing blows that were followed up with a fisherman’s suplex. Dave almost went down for the three count after only a minute in the ring, but he managed to roll the shoulder at the last second. The initial flurry seemed to knock some sense into Newton, and the rookie settled into a more serious approach as the match wore on. He impressed everyone by brawling with Deadwood for a while, holding his own with the power moves, then took the big man down with dropkick off the top rope that lead to another quick two-count. Things slackened off a little after that, with both men circling one another and testing their opponents defenses. Newton darted in and hammered Deadwood’s legs with a series of low kicks; Deadwood responded with a clothesline that was followed up with a knee lift. Newton would use an arm drag to take Deadwood down, and Deadwood would sweep the rookies legs out from under him as he came in for the cover. Newton would try going to the top rope in order to take out his opponent; Deadwood would always recover before Dave could make the cover. The ending seemed to come out of no-where – Deadwood and Newton started to pick up the pace again, throwing one another into the ropes with a series of Irish whips. Newton thought he’d taken Deadwood out with a running bulldog, so he went to the top rope and tried to finish things with a flying elbow drop. Unfortunately Deadwood was already up, and he caught Newton in mid-air with a fist to the gut. Deadwood went to the ropes to pick up some momentum, then came charging at the stunned Newton with a running boot to the face that seemed to knock him unconscious. Sam Strong put over the fact that Joey Poison had requested this match in order to get a measure of revenge on the two men who attacked him at Urban Mayhem, and the commissioners had named DJ Grayson as his partner after a special request from Grayson’s manager Seduction. With members of both teams meeting at Declaration of Independence, things were sure to hot up once the teams were in the ring. For the most part, Strong was right. The crowd got firmly behind Grayson and Poison, and they seemed suitably stunned whenever Boone started rampaging through the ring. They just refused to get interested by anyone going up against Redwood, and it was never going to matter who he was teaming with. Boone carried the lions share of the work here, carrying his crazy schtick to a new level when he caught DJ Grayson in the middle of the ring and hammered his head into the canvas using the ears as leverage. Joey Poison was forced to come in and break up the mauling, but that just meant that he was knocked silly by one of Boone’s fearsome headbutts as well. The end came when Giant Redwood started brawling with Joey Poison at ringside, forcing DJ and Boone to wrestle alone in the ring. Grayson was still rattled after his experience with the canvas only a few moments earlier, allowing Boone to hit the Boone and Bust and pick up the win. Peter Valentine actually looked like he had his head in the game, for once, and actually managed to look only mildly half-arsed going up against the former tag-team champion. The hulking T-Rex in Valentine’s corner actually seems to validate Valentine as a heel, since the big man is such an intimidating presence that he serves as a distraction even when he isn’t getting physically involved and interfering in the match-up. Warlord Agony can still bring it in a match when he’s allowed to dominate an opponent, and Valentine seems happy to be jobbed as long as he still has a title belt around his waist at the end of the match. The in-ring action was forgettable, really, but it was enough to keep the crowd entertained and get the message across. Warlord Agony is hard as nails despite his advancing age; Peter Valentine is a deranged pansy who can manage nothing without his seven-foot acolyte in the ring with him. Warlord Agony for the win. Result: Warlord Agony defeated Peter Valentine in 6:48 by pinfall with a Hostile Takeover. Rating: D- __________________ Russ Vinzio comes out into the ring. The crowd would probably boo him, if they could be convinced that they should remember him for longer than three seconds after he does an angle. They don’t, so instead we’re treated to the usual sullen silence that accompanies his presence. Vinzio: Ladies and gentlemen, I’m afraid that I have some bad news. You see, there was an accident tonight, something that involved one of the members of Old School, and its thrown some doubt onto their ability to appear in their match at Declaration of Independence tomorrow night. Given the severity of the situation, I’d like to invite Steve Flash to come out and hear the news in person, rather than hearing it second hand. Steve, if you please… Steve Flash comes out looking distressed, worried about what could have happened to his tag-team partner. He’s halfway towards the ring when Dog Fyte steps out of the crowd, a baseball bat in his hands. Steve realizes something is up and turns to leave, but Spike is blocking his exit with another baseball bat and a mean glare. Vinzio: You see, Flash, you had an accident tonight. It appears that you were beaten within an inch of your life by two unnamed assailants. Dog and Spike charge. Spike’s bat catches Steve in the stomach, doubling him over, and Dog Fyte uses the second bat to club Steve across the back of the head. With Flash down, both members of the Kids start pummeling him. Vinzio: It’s a cruel world out there, a dangerous world, and a man needs to learn how to be careful Steve. He needs to learn how to look out for number one and keep his priorities in order. You didn’t, and look what’s happened – you’ve just left your partner in the precarious position of fighting Dog Fyte and Spike alone. Rating: E __________________ Bruce the Giant comes out into the ring. I beat that kid when he first came here, and I’ll keep on beating him. Brimstone – he kicks like a mule, but he just isn’t in my league. Madman Boone – you really think I’m going to be afraid of him? Sure, he’s crazy, but I’m six hundred pounds of ultimate destruction, and there ain’t enough crazy in the world to compete with that. But putting me in a match with Alicia Strong – putting me in a three-way with Brimstone so she’ll be beaten up no matter what I do – that’s just damn low. Enjoy your dinner tonight, Mate, because after our match tomorrow you’ll be eating through a straw. Rating: B __________________ vs. Mean Jean Cattley vs. Captain USA Mean Jean came out in a good mood, despite the jeers of the crowd. Captain USA came out to some solid cheering, but it was nothing compared to the pop he gets in the tri-state. Alicia: The doctors are telling me I’ve got a fractured wrist and I probably shouldn’t wrestle. I’m here to tell you that’s a load of crap. Tonight, I will be taking part in a three-way show-down between the world champion Bruce the Giant and the Devil’s Son – Brimstone. I joined this company to compete with the best in the world, and I plan on doing that with or without an injured wing. But tomorrow night, at Declaration of Independence – that’s when I plan on doing a little personal business. Bulldozer, you and that new kid better get ready for a match, because tomorrow night I plan on kicking both your butts. Of course, the expectations I have for them are so very, very low. This is exactly the match you’d expect at this point – T-Rex is indestructible, and Pain struggles to put him down without the assistance of his partner. I was starting to wish I’d relegated all the story-oriented matches to the pre-show and replaced them with the thrown-together match-ups that got better ratings. Datsun and Muscles are no strangers to one another, and they produced another energetic brawl that pitted Muscles’ raw power against Datsun’s veteran smarts and hard-working determination. Alicia then went to lock up with Bruce, but the Giant backed away shaking his head, refusing to engage the younger Stone. Alicia got furious, yelling ‘treat me like a wrestler, dammit’ as she chased Bruce, but he kept backing away until he caught a spinning kick to the back from a recovered Brimstone. Brimstone changed his tactic this time around, choosing to focus his offense on Alicia. She was victim of several stiff kicks before Bruce grabbed Brimstone from behind in a bear-hug. Unfortunately for Bruce, Brimstone was ready, and he slammed his head back into the Giant’s face as soon as Brimstone felt his feet lift the floor. This left Bruce staggered, and Brimstone capitalized with a series of stunning kicks and strikes. Bruce fell back, looking a little dazed, and Brimstone was lining up a hell fire kick when Alicia recovered and caught him in a reverse DDT. Alicia went for the first cover of the match, but Brimstone kicked out. The two then brawled for a while, with Brimstone gradually recapturing the advantage, but he was caught in a spear by Bruce just as he attempted to put Alicia down with a second hellfire kick attempt. This left Bruce and Brimstone grappling on the mat, trading the advantage, right up until Alicia Strong flew off the top rope and hit them both with a splash. By this time the match was devolving into a series of big moves, with one wrestler laying out an opponent only to have the third recover and break up the pinfall. Alicia kept trying to lock up with Bruce, and he kept refusing to fight. Eventually she scored a moment of satisfaction when she launched a Strong Arm Tactic from the top rope, catching the Giant upside the head and sending him down for the three-count. Unfortunately, while she was making the cover, Brimstone landed the Flames of Hell and covered her for the three. Before the ref could finish the count, Bruce recovered and pulled Brimstone off Alicia. Brimstone tried to fight back, but Bruce locked in the choke and slammed Brimstone into the mat twice for the win. Result: Bruce The Giant defeated Brimstone and Alicia Strong in 9:33 when Bruce The Giant defeated Brimstone by pinfall with a Giant Choke Slam. Rating: C
Post-Show: A strong ending, but it wasn’t enough to cover the weakness early in the show. Another D+ rating in the South East, and another bunch of fans told us they wouldn’t be coming back. Sam Strong wasn’t happy, but I reminded him that we were getting a TV deal while the rest of the states was experiencing a downturn and he backed off a little. If only we’d put the dark matches in the main show somewhere, this could have been a solid night of entertainment. There were some plus sides to tonight’s show though – people really started to click with the audience the way we’ve been wanting them too: the main event boosted Alicia Strong and Brimstone considerably despite the loss, and it even boosted Bruce back into the B- range after he’d been languishing in the C+ area for the last week or two. Madman Boone got a considerable boost from tonight, as did Mean Jean, and Steve Flash is more popular in the South East than he is in the Tri-State for the first time since we signed him. While the dark matches didn’t do much for anyone’s popularity, they did give Lumberjack Cal the first sniff of real momentum he’s had under our banner – possibly even enough that he could ride it out of the opener position he’s been stuck in since day one
.

Tomorow Night, At Declaration of Independence Giant Redwood vs. Joey Poison Loser Leaves USPW This low-key feud has been boiling away in the USPW undercard for a couple of weeks now, with Poison beating Redwood soundly in several matches and the Redwood using Madman Boone to extract a measure of revenge on the USPW newcomer. Tomorrow night things come to a head, as the two men clash in a do-or-die match with one man leaving USPW forever. Old School vs. Those Damn Kids The Masters of Tradition are going up against the Princes of the Punk Scene, with traditional values clashing with the anarchic attitudes of Russ Vinzio’s tag-team. Spike and Steve Flash put on a blistering match in the lead-up to this event, but the actions of the Kids may have removed the Old School Icon from consideration. Will he be cleared to wrestle, or will Thomas Morgan be forced to fight the kids alone? Roderick Remus vs. Paul Steadyfast USPW National Title Match Roderick Remus gears up to make his first title defense since his surprise win at Freedom Fight last month. He goes up against Paul Steadyfast, a suave newcomer with talent to burn who claims he’s got something to prove to a ‘special lady’ somewhere in the audience. Will Roderick keep the belt, or will Steadyfast’s desire prove too much for the slick surfer to survive? Captain USA vs. The Mysterious X Captain USA’s star has risen in the Vinzio-era USPW, but he’s been the target of several threats and taunts from the mysterious wrestler known as X whose set to debut at Declaration of Independence. Who is the mysterious man threatening the downfall of the USA and it’s iconic wrestler? Can the Captain’s pure heart and American determination carry him in a match against an opponent he doesn’t even know? The Lords of War vs. The Valentine Army USPW World Tag-Team Title Match The Lords of War are set to reclaim the titles they held for nearly five months, but are the veterans of the squared circle up to the task of thwarting destiny. Peter Valentine and his army are slowly making the glorious destiny they see manifest itself, and T-Rex seems unwilling to relinquish the titles without a fight. The Lords have the experience, but it appears that Valentine and T-Rex have the drive. Who will walk out of tomorrow night’s match the champion? Deadwood vs. Rhino Umaga Steel Cage Match Two of the hardest and most dangerous men in USPW settle things once and for all when they’re locked into a sixteen-foot-high steel cage and given free reign to brutalize one another with anything they can come up with. Bulldozer and Dave Newton vs. Alicia Strong and a Partner of Her Choice Alicia Strong fights for family pride and vengeance when she picks a tag-team partner and clashes with Bulldozer and his Sneer Corporation cohort. Bulldozer is still incensed with Alicia after she interfered in his match against Sam Strong just one short month ago. ‘Dozer is looking dominant of late, and Alicia is bruised and battered after a series of sneak attacks and tough matches – will her partner tip the balance in her favor, or will the Sneer Corporation make its first statement by destroying the daughter of the USPW owner? Madman Boone and DJ Grayson Hell in a Cell DJ Grayson has found him in a series of dangerous matches of late, and he now finds himself in the most dangerous match of all thanks to the manipulating ways of his girlfriend and manager – Nurse Seduction. Grayson always shows courage in the face of adversity, but Boone thrives on inflicting pain. Who will come out on top of the most dangerous match in USPW history? Bruce the Giant vs. Mean Jean Cattley USPW World Title Match It’s the match that Bruce didn’t want to give you, but pressure from USPW management ensured you’d get. Cattley has had free reign to torture the champion with any match he wanted over the last couple of weeks, and he’s put Bruce through a grueling series against the strongest and most dangerous wrestlers that USPW has to offer. Bruce has dominated the company since he won the title in October of 2006 – can his reign continue when he finally faces off against Cattley tomorrow night? USPW Declaration of Independence Pre-Show Ray Kingman was outside the arena, having a quick cigarette before the meeting. I was used to seeing him as I walked in to get ready for a show, and there was usually a quick exchange of pleasantries and news. I asked about his wife, he asked me when I’d give his kid a shot in the company. That sort of thing. Today, though, that didn’t happy. Kingman actually looked nervous as I walked up the path. “Hey kid,” he said, “We’ve got a problem.” This is not what you want to hear a few hours before the show. The panic probably showed in my face, and Kingman didn’t make me wait. “Poison isn’t here tonight,’ he said. ‘Commitments up north that he couldn’t get out of, said he got his days confused.’ I could feel my color draining out of my face. That was our opener, and while it was never going to be the biggest match of the night, the threat of Redwood leaving the company forever had really spiked the interest in it across the local wrestling sites. The anticipation for the match had actually jumped a whole letter grade as a result of that stipulation. “Crap,” I said. It didn’t express my feelings that well, but Sam Strong had a thing about profanity among the staff. I had a sneaking suspicion wrestlers had actually been using expletives like bother and darn pretty regularly until I’d convinced Sam we needed a stronger youth focus. “Anything else I should know before I head in?” “Anger’s late,” Kingman said. He took a long puff on his cigarette and stubbed it out under the heel of his cowboy boot. “I rang around, and he’ll get here soon, but it looked dicey there for a while. Apparently he went to the Ministry; stupid bastard didn’t pay attention to the schedule once he realized he didn’t have a match.” “Double crap,” I said. “Isn’t this stuff supposed to come in threes? What else you got?” Ray scratched his chin a little. “You still haven’t hired Barry,’ he said. “You should, you know. That boy would set this place on fire.” I grinned at him. He grinned back. Then we went inside and tried to work out what we’d do about the missing Joey Poison. Lumberjack Cal came out like a man possessed, running into the ring and taking out Redwood with a springboard clothesline while the bell was still being sounded. After that he refused to let him, fighting like a man that knew his career was on the line. The bad news is that Redwood was involved in the match, and Cal hadn’t really been briefed in the fine art of making a match with Redwood work (if anyone has that briefing, can they pass it on, the world really need to know). The good news is that this was over and done with quickly. Redwood went down to that first clothesline, absorbed a quick DDT from Sanders, then managed to throw a single punch before Cal buried him under a flurry of axe-handle blows to the shoulders. Quick double-teams, hard-hitting European uppercuts, a series of double-team DDT’s and submission moves. The Kids fought back just as hard, but when they tried to cheat their way to victory they were met with stiff opposition – Steve Flash caught a low-blow attempt by Spike and turned it into one of the most painful hammerlocks you’ve ever seen; Thomas Morgan used a baseball slide through Baby Jamie’s legs to knock Russ Vinzio off the apron when the commissioner tried to distract the referee; both men cut lose with a tag-team delayed vertical suplex on Dog Fyte when he dared to use a closed fist on Steve Flash. Any attempt to cheat was met with swift and painful response, leaving the kids completely outclassed. The new attitude was cemented at the end of the match, when Steve Flash eschewed their traditional finisher in place of a swift double-team elimination leg-sweep that sent Spike face-first into the mat. Dog Fyte tried to break the tree-count, only to find himself on the end of a German Suplex courtesy of Thomas Morgan then dragged out of the ring by Kristen Pearce. While neither Morgan nor Flash had actually done anything against the rules, they gave a strong impression of being men who played hard within the boundaries and the crowd loved them for it. We told both men they had six minutes to impress us as much as they could, and neither of them disappointed. Remus played the daredevil from the outset, going to top rope at least once a minute, and Paul focused his effort on grounding and pounding the National champion. In the end it was Paul’s approach that proves successful – he caught Remus in mid-air during a cross-body attempted, then twisted him into a Slingshot Suplex for the win. The three count came down fast, and Remus only just failed to roll out in time. Steadyfast scurried out of the ring and grabbed the belt, kissing it as he ran up the walkway, and Roderick was left arguing with Baby Jamie and trying to work out what had happened. When the lights came back on, there was a lithe man in a black ninja costume standing in one corner, arms locked into an X across his chest. Sam Strong sounded confused – the presence of the mysterious wrestler still didn’t answer any questions – but Danny Jillefski actually sounded as though he recognized the stranger (and, out in the audience, the two or three smarks that actually bother with USPW wondered who the hell we thought we were kidding). The match itself was short and swift, with the fast-moving X gliding around the Captain like a black blur. X started the match with a series of arm-drags, throwing Captain USA around with a fluidity and force that probably should have broken the old man’s hip. From there X focused primarily on countering the Captain’s offense, using a combination of judo throws and technical wrestling to thwart every attempt Captain USA made to get the upper hand. After five minutes, tiring of the match, X lashed out with quick cross-arm strike to the throat that left Captain USA choking and easy prey for the roll up. You’ve never heard a crowd so pissed that the Captain lost as the Pennsylvania crowd that booed X out of the arena. For the first time in the fading twilight of his career, the Captain has actually looked good while he was on the losing side of a match. These two made this look clean and neat without the benefit of chemistry, and the Captain even managed to make it through five minutes of full-speed wrestling without getting puffed. The Lords of War attacked the Valentine Army as they were climbing into the ring, knocking both Valentine and T-Rex back into ringside with a pair of big boots to the face. Valentine stood up in a rage and ordered T-Rex to destroy their opponents, and T-Rex happily tried to do so by picking up the steel steps and tossing them into the ring. Fists flew for nearly six minutes as Baby Jamie tried to get control over the match with various degrees of success, but neither team seemed to want to obey the rules and the only time the only there was only one wrestler from each time was in the ring was after someone had thrown someone else over the top rope. The match ended with T-Rex choking pain into the mat, eyes blazing with anger, while Warlord Agony had Peter Valentine twisted up in the ropes while he delivered a series of knife-edged chops that left the Epitome of Perfection’s chest raw. Baby Jamie declared the match a wash and DQ’d both teams before calling for security to break up the fight scene. The answer came early, when Rhino Umaga scraped Deadwood’s face across the steel bars of the cage within the opening minute and bust Deadwood open. Claret continues to stream down the Reaper’s face for the majority of the match, but it didn’t seem to slow him down (Side note: while this was brutal by USPW standards, it was a walk in the park compared to the destruction Deadwood’s body takes in some of the other companies he works for). Rhino dominated this match offensively, hammering Deadwood with everything he had and doing his best to put the scion of death down. There were at least two moments where Umaga could have won by going over the top of the cage, but the Samoan enforcer seemed determined to win the match by pinfall and kept trying to keep the bloody Deadwood dead. Deadwood refused to stay pinned, however, and kept coming back for more. By eight minutes into the match his face was a crimson mask, and Rhino had hit him with two Rhino Charges and a pile-driver that dropped the big man on his head. It was at this point, when Deadwood cracked a wide smile that was pale and white against the claret rolling down his face, that Rhino seemed to lose his nerve. Deadwood took control of those last two minutes, hammering Rhino with a series of punches and clotheslines that drew shudders from many in the crowd. Rhino didn’t exactly back down, but there was a level of hesitation in his offense that cost him here, and he eventually lost the match after Deadwood cornered him and hit three Running Big Boots in a row. Their chemistry was all over the place from the outset, and we were only a few minutes in when I sent a message to ringside – keep Newton in the corner as much as possible and let Bulldozer carry the bulk of the match for his team. Yep – they were that bad. Fortunately the crowd was willing to get behind Bulldozer and whichever Strong happened to be in the ring. Unlike the last clash between Bulldozer and Sam, there was no gentle nostalgia build here – it was a raw wrestling match with both teams going at it to win. Sam Spent a lot of time in the corner, letting Alicia do a lot of the work, but he’d come out to a huge pop and do a short minute and a half of solid wrestling. Both Strongs were strong in this match, holding their own despite giving up size (Alicia) or speed/endurance (Sam) to the young wrestler. Alicia earned a good pop when she hit a superplex on a briefly returned to the ring Dave Newton at the eight minute mark, a move that effectively knocked him out of the match. Bulldozer came in to break the pin, then kept stomping on Alicia despite Baby Jamie’s best effort. Sam Strong came in for the save…Strong Arm Tactic. Bulldozer got back up, and the crowd popped even more when Sam Strong scooped Bulldozer up and hit the Angel Driver in a moment of homage to his daughter. Bulldozer was down, Alicia was back up, and Sam Strong sent her up to the top rope for the big finish. Alicia set herself up for a shooting star press, but by the time she was airborne Shane Sneer had dragged Sam out of the ring and Bulldozer was upright. He caught Alicia in midair, then used the Backdrop Driver to put her away for the three. The crowd erupted for the second time tonight, incensed by the actions of the heels, and the torrent of abuse that followed the Sneer Corporation into the locker rooms was enough to leave me smiling for the rest of the night. Sure, this was a match that should have been better, but it cemented Bulldozer as one of the heels to watch. Grayson would occasionally retaliate with some spectacular offense, including a cross-body from the top ropes that caught a ringside Boone and sent him crashing back into the cell well. Unfortunately the move earned him little momentum – Boone simply laughed off the pain and kept a tight hold on Grayson, turning him around and smashing him headfirst into the cell war in retaliation for the move. The momentum didn’t really shift in a satisfying way until seven minutes in – Grayson got Boone tangled up in the ropes and used it to lay into the psychopath with a series of chops. Boone was still laughing and taunted Grayson to do his worse, leading Grayson to hit a running drop-kick after gaining some momentum from the ropes on the far side of the ring. The impact of the dropkick actually flipped Boone over, freeing him from the ropes but dropping him head first on the concrete floor. Grayson went to follow up with a flying splash, but Boone moved out of the way and left Grayson gasping and stunned on the concrete. This left Boone free to brutalize Grayson with a series of kicks to the ribs, followed on by ramming Grayson headfirst into the size of the cell. USPW became the place to see a crimson mask for the second time in one night, but this wasn’t enough to keep Grayson down – the young man kicked out of Boone’s attempted cover, then sent Boone headfirst into the cell with a spinning head scissors. The final exchange of moves saw Boone head-butting the bloody face of Grayson, with Nurse Seduction actually looking shocked and dismayed about the damage being done to her client. Grayson absorbed the punishment, then surprised everyone by retaliating with a series of headbutts of his own. Boone was staggered, then sent over the top rope with a big dropkick. Grayson staggered to his feet in the ring only a few moments before Boone got back to his feet on the outside, but it was enough to give him the advantage. He somersaulted over the top rope in order to land a Wheel of Steel (Summersault Legdrop) on the grounded Boone, then rolled over him in order to get the pin. They put this together as the grudge match it was meant to be, with Bruce out to punish Cattley and Cattley taunting the Giant into making a mistake. The dynamic was set early, when Bruce charged right into a DDT from Cattley and almost lost the match after Cattley covered him for a two-and-a-half count. From there the two played cat-and-mouse, with a more cautious Giant being tricked, at various times, into going into the ring post shoulder first and getting crotched on the top rope when Cattley ducked a big boot to the head. Despite his mind games, Cattley still couldn’t get the giant down for the three count. The match ended when he tried to take the padding off one of the turnbuckles, only to be interrupted by Baby Jamie and given a warning. Bruce hit Cattley during the exchange with the referee, leading Jamie to start giving Bruce a warning and provide Cattley with enough time to finish the job on the turnbuckle. Unfortunately Bruce realized what was happening, and he hit a corner splash that splayed Cattley across the exposed turnbuckle. The Giant Choke Slam hit a few seconds after that, putting Cattley away for a three-count and allowing Bruce to retain the USPW World Title. A lot of wrestlers hit their strides, giving us a string of solid C- matches, and that translated into an overall rating of the same grade from the internet fans. The problem is that I came to the end of the show and realized this probably should have been better – certainly the Strong/Dozer confrontation should have hit the C range given the star-power involved, and I’d underestimated the momentum X would be carrying into his debut and fed him a glorified jobber-in-waiting when an opponent who could legitimately wrestle would probably have worked a tad better. Still, he drew a rating far better than anyone could have predicted out of Captain USA, so it wasn’t a total loss. The worst part, though, was the fact that this show just had too many matches. It meant a bunch of matches had to be cut short, and the angles that should have helped the popularity just weren’t long enough to make a meaningful contribution to the overall rating. This is the big lesson of today’s show: If Bruce is going to cut a B rated promo, then it needs to be five minutes long. Because that B isn’t going to come from any other direction.
This proved to be something of a mistake – Boone was still running on fumes after the Hell in a Cell, and it turns out he doesn’t like wrestling women at the best of times. The end result: awkward and even more awkward. The crowd still got behind it, largely because getting behind Alicia Strong is second nature to the USPW faithful, but no-one was going to remember this tomorrow after the solid showing put on by Grayson and X. Result: Alicia Strong defeated Madman Boone in 11:31 by pinfall with an Angel Driver. Rating: D+
Post-Show: For a few brief moments I though we were going to have a solid show today, but that fell apart as soon as the awkward main event started. X continues to be a welcome surprise in USPW – a wrestlers who manages to pull of solid matches without the benefit of chemistry – and Alicia Strong and Boone offer their first real disappointing match since they were recruited into the fold. The internet rates us as a D+, with the fans asking exactly why they have to watch so much Kashmir Singh in a show where there’s no Bruce the Giant. Still, a D+ means we aren't losing popularity and that's good enough after the dismal show in the South East that started this week.
