Albright grabs an armlock early, forcing that right arm behind Whitmer's back. BJ's proven over the years here in Ring of Honor that he can take some punishment, but Albright's one heck of a... gunner. Albright wrenches on that neck, ripping and tearing at BJ's ligaments. But BJ throws Albright off balance, and after some struggling, Whitmer does finally slip out of the arm lock, and takes control with some good shots to the head of Albright. He drills Albright with a stiff kick to the back of the leg, sending his opponent to the mat. But as he tries to capitalize on the advantage, Albright lunges and takes him down to the mat. He grabs the arm of Whitmer, and again rips at the right arm of BJ Whitmer. Without the strength in that right arm, Whitmer may not even be able to hit the Exploder Suplex. BJ battles back to a vertical base, and hits Albright with several elbows to the gut. He then starts to batter Albright with blows, but as he takes control, he grabs at his arm, and Albright capitalizes on the moment of weakness. He takes BJ down, and locks in the Crowbar! Whitmer's arm has already been weakened, and there's no where for him to go! He taps out! Winner: Brent Albright Rating: C- Nigel McGuiness vs. Roderick Strong Pure Title Qualifier Yes, ROH is bringing back the Pure Title, and this is the first match in a 16-man tournament that will crown a new champ. Expect the unexpected in what's going to be a heck of a run. Two more great technicians here, McGuiness has been a man who's able to pin Takeshi Morishima, the only man to ever do so. He's been able to take Bryan Danielson to the limit of his endurance, and almost beat the American Dragon for the ROH World Title. Roderick Strong is the head of the No Remorse Corps, and is the FIP World Heavyweight Champion to boot. These two great wrestlers square off in a great battle. Roderick Strong starts things with a series of loud chops to the chest of Nigel McGuiness, who is driven back into the corner. He bangs against the turnbuckle, bounces off, and is met by a thunderous chop that staggers him. Strong grabs McGuiness and delivers a big backbreaker, which rolls McGuiness back towards the center of the ring. McGuiness sits up in time to meet a knee to the face from Strong, which sends him flat to the mat. Strong covers for a two-count before McGuiness gets a shoulder up. Strong roars in frustration and slaps the mat as McGuiness rolls to his feet. Still woozy from the beating Roderick Strong has laid on him in the match thus far, McGuiness is easily whipped into the ropes by Strong. But as he bounces off the ring ropes, he seems to come to his senses. As he thunders back towards Strong, his eyes clear and he crashes into Strong with a massive Jawbreaker Lariat! The lights go out in the eyes of Roderick Strong, who doesn't know where he is right now! McGuiness isn't done yet! Instead of going for the easy cover, he takes Strong up to the top rope! TOWER OF LONDON! That shook the ring! 1-2-Kick Out! Roderick Strong battles back to his feet... and kicks McGuiness in the gut! McGuiness bends over as Strong gathers his strength and... Tiger Driver! 1-2-3, Roderick Strong advances! Winner: Roderick Strong Rating: C- Nigel McGuiness Promo McGuiness calls for a microphone as Strong stumbles back to the backstage area. A cameraman hands him one as the crowd chants "Crumpet, Crumpet!" "Takeshi Morishima! I'm Nigel McGuiness and I'm in it to win it! That means I want a shot at your ROH World Heavyweight Title! Yeah, I know I came up short in Japan and maybe right now as well, but I don't care about that right now! You know the kind of battler I am, and I deserve a title shot! Morishima, that was on your turf in Japan! Well, we're not going back home to the UK soon, but I'm more then willing to take a shot at you in Neutral territory. And I want as big an audience to see me hit you with my Jawbreaker Lariat, so at the next Pay-Per-View, it's gonna be you and me Morishima! And I'll be the next ROH World Champ because I'm the best there is, I am the best there was, and I am.........well, you know the rest of it." Ryo Saito, Genki Horiguchi and Dragon Kid vs. Jack Evans and The Briscoes An explosive, fast-paced match was what was expected from these three incredibly athletic young men, and the crowd was not disappointed. They got all they wanted and more. Horiguchi and Jay Briscoe started off in the ring. Briscoe takes control early, forcing the smaller Horiguchi into the corner. He batters him with punches, before lifting him up onto his shoulders and tagging in Mark Briscoe. The ROH faithful know what's coming next, and are therefore on the edge of their seats as Mark Briscoe delivers a flying clothesline to Horiguchi! The move only garners a two-count however, before Horiguchi kicks out. Briscoe brings Genki to his feet, and tags Jack Evans in! Evans goes to the top, and nails Horiguchi with a flying dropkick that sends Genki tumbling head over heels into his corner. This does enable Genki to get a tag to the diminutive Dragon Kid, who leaps off the top, flipping Jack Evans over in a head scissors maneuver for another two count. Jay Briscoe breaks up the pin, and is met with another hurricainerana for the trouble which sends him out of the ring. Mark Briscoe follows in similar fashion, leaving Evans alone. Dragon Kid makes a tag to Saito. Saito bounces off the ropes, but is leapt over by Jack Evans, who then slides through the feet of Satio when he comes back off the ropes. Then, Satio is leveled by an Evans dropkick. Satio is flat on his back as Evans ascends the turnbuckle. He signals to the crowd as they cheer, and delivers the 630 Splash! Wow! Another two-count as Horiguchi successfully breaks it up. The Briscoes have re-appeared on the ring apron as the match continues. The battle continues as Evans makes a tag to Jay Briscoe. Jay ducks under the top ring rope, then levels Satio, who has managed to get to his feet. Briscoe stomps on Satio and drops an elbow on Satio's head. Jay Briscoe picks up the stunned Satio and sets him up for the J-Driller! The crowd yells before Dragon Kid manages to break up the finisher. Briscoe looks at the other two members of the Dragon Gate Team and rushes them, clotheslining them both off the ring apron. Both hit hard on the mat around the ring area, and they lie limp. Jay grabs Satio by the head, and tags in Mark Briscoe. As Mark climbs the turnbuckle, Jay throws Satio in the air. Briscoe grabs Satio and delivers a bulldog to the mat below! Satio is lying flat on his back, his teammates no where in sight as Mark makes another tag to Jack Evans! 630 Splash! Evans then gets to his feet, and Ode To Blitzkrieg! 1-2-3, Evans and The Briscoes win! Winner: Evans and The Briscoes Rating: C- Danielson Shoot Promo "The American Dragon, the best pure wrestler in the business today, is BACK in Ring... of... Honor! And Naomichi Marfuji, you just happened to be the man who was thrown to me. Sorry Marfuji. Tonight, you meet the longest-reigning ROH World Champion in history in the center of the ring. Tonight, you have to go one-on-one with me in the place that I'm better then anyone else in the world. Tonight, you lose. Sorry Naomichi, but It's the Final Countdown!" Bryan Danielson vs. Naomichi Marfuji The Final Countdown hits as Bryan Danielson returns to a Ring of Honor ring. The crowd cheers as Danielson stalks down to the ring, and slides under with a taunt for the fans. Marfuji runs down quickly, hoping to catch Danielson by surprise, but he runs right into a belly to belly suplex that sends Marfuji over head and crashing to the mat. Danielson stomps on Marfuji, then locks in an Armbar. Marfuji howls in pain, but manages to struggle to the ropes, forcing Mike Kerhner to break up the hold. Marfuji gets to his feet and is met with a vicious uppercut to the head, sending him back down. Danielson grabs a headlock this time, pulling at the neck of Marfuji. This continues until Naiomichi forces himself back to a vertical base, and breaks free of Danielson's holds. Dropkick! Marfuji with a dropkick out of nowhere that sends Danielson down. Marfuji bounces off the ropes, and... SUPERKICK to the head of Danielson. Marfuji covers, but Danielson gets a shoulder up at two. The match continues, both men tiring now, as they battle around the ring throwing stiff strikes at one another. Danielson staggers Marfuji with a shot to the jaw, and elevates him for a suplex. Marfuji slips out and delivers a DDT! Another kick out from a Marfuji pin attempt. Marfuji slaps the mat and Danielson is able to recover. He nails several forearm shots to the face of Marfuji, and climbs the turnbuckle. Marfuji is staggered and Danielson launces off the turnbuckle and hits a big European uppercut to the jaw of the Japanese star. Marfuji lands on his back, and Danielson locks in the Cattle Mutilation! Marfuji struggles, battles, and gets to the ropes! The crowd applauds the match as Danielson can't believe it. He argues with the referee, and is struck by surprise when Marfuji hits a Running Bulldog! He goes to the top, and hits an Asai Moonsault! No cover as Marfuji gets to the turnbuckle, while Danielson staggers over. Marfuji grabs him, and tries to go for the Shirunai! But Danielson drops him face first onto the mat! Cattle Mutilation locked in again! Nowhere to go! Marfuji taps out! Winner: Bryan Danielson Rating: B- Takeshi Morishima (C) vs. KENTA ROH World Championship It's time for the main event, as the two men who will be competing for the Ring of Honor World Championship make their way to the ring. The two men stare each other down and circle one another. The crowd alternates chanting the names of the wrestlers, half rooting for the champion, the other half for the challenger. The bell rings, and they size each other up for a moment, then KENTA looses a kick to the chest of Morishima. They stare each other down for another moment, then Morishima comes back with a forearm shot to the jaw of KENTA. KENTA responds with another hard kick, then Morishima with another forearm shot. The two alternate blows, harder and harder until the crowd is cheering with anticipation. KENTA manages to knock Morishima off his feet. But Morishima springs right back up, and knocks KENTA off his own feet. He hits a running senton and waits for KENTA to get up, then clotheslines him off his feet. KENTA rolls back to his feet, and begins to slap Morishima. Right, left, right, left, faster and faster, then roundhouse kicks him off his feet. He bounces off the ropes and hits a Busaiku Knee Kick right to the jaw of Morishima. Morishima's eyes roll back in his head, and KENTA covers for the two count. But the shoulder is up and the match continues. Morishima gets back to his feet and is able to whip KENTA off the ropes, and catches his opponent, delivering a big Scrapbuster on the way by. Another two-count, but KENTA manages to kick out. The match continues, both men go at it with the crowd all pumped up. KENTA delivers another roundhouse kick to the chest of Morishima, driving him back into the corner. The kicks of KENTA are the stiffest in wrestling, and the sound of them sounding off the chest the Ring of Honor World Champion echoes throughout the entire building. He manages to keep the champ woozy long enough to set up for the go 2 sleep. He tries to lift Morishima up for the move, but is unable to, due to the size of the champ. Takeshi Morishima's girth could keep him the champ! KENTA staggers back, clutching at his back, as Morishima gets to his feet. He uses his always-surprising quickness to get behind the other man, and hits a Backdrop Driver! KENTA must be out cold! Morishima makes the cover, and Todd Sinclair makes the count! One... Two... Three! Takeshi Morishima retains the gold! Winner: Takeshi Morishima Rating: B Overall: C+
