bertxfl2105
Since I am more into simming than video games, I was really into NFL Head Coach vs. Madden until I read about the stats. Someone had said that the stats were very unrealistic, but until that point I was really enjoying the day-to-day aspects. I would love to see something even more in depth than TPF with some of the more day-to-day activities. Since I haven't played it in more than a year, it would hard for me to be more specific. Another thing is expanding the draft which is one of my favorite aspects of sim games, but it always turns out kind of dry. I end up picking the highest rated player from my scouts or from the draft rating. I am just not sure how to make it more interesting or interactive. I love TPF and one more thing that I will mention. I love TPB, and I haven't purchased DDS from Gary G. yet because it seems like the same game as TPB. I worry that a BBPF will not be much different from TPF. Yet, I can hardly wait to compare it when it is released.
cappyboy
[QUOTE=bertxfl2105;253524] Another thing is expanding the draft which is one of my favorite aspects of sim games, but it always turns out kind of dry. When drafting in games, I always look for guys who will have as much skill for as long as possible. Like I don't care if you have some 26 year old rookie with godly skills at the top of a draft class. If you have a more reasonably projected guy a few slots down who's 22 and has the potential to be a 15 or 20 year pro, I'll trade down and take the guy who's less godly off the bat. Fearing that the god will be a mercurial talent who flames out much more quickly. Also in football games, I will pretty much demand that my debut first round pick be a offensive or defensive lineman. Game starts in the trenches after all. I don't care if I have the first pick and the opportunity to take the second coming of Joe Montana with it, I will trade down to solidify my lines before even considering a skill guy. bertxfl2105
No Arguement I usually try to use the logic "best player available" (To mimic the NFL), since we don't have much else to go on. I love OL, but if there is other superior talent, I will grab them. They can always become trade bait or make someone else on your team expendable. I am just saying that I would like to see something more with the drafting/scouting process for added excitement.
John Comey
You have to remember, not every team does that. In fact, I'd say you were in the minority. If that were the case, Brady Quinn would have went higher than #22. Adrian Peterson might have been the #2 pick. Truth is, nobody is ever sure who the "best player available" is. So you're not really mimicking the NFL. You're being a team or two, or several. But every team in the NFL? Hardly.
smartman
OMG! Please tell me someone else didn't pick up a copy of NFL Head Coach. That is in my Hall of Shame (easily in my top 5 of worst games I've ever bought--over 10+ years worth of gaming btw). The game is done well though. Well, everything but the QB AI that is. Of course that's like saying the meal looked good but was undercooked so you got something and died. This game was sooooo much worse than TPF was (even in the 1.0 version). As for adding some of the stuff from Head Coach into BBPF, he can't add the graphics though the calling free agents and negociating deals over a couple of days to a week would be cool. However, Arlie, DON'T have the QB AI make a dog look smarter than Albert Einstein. As for the drafting, you always draft for need unless a player you rate really high drops to you. Though it was about the NBA draft, Chad Ford of ESPN.com really did a good job explaining about the Tier system most of those teams use. Basically, you rate everyone into a tier based on how good you think that player is + need at that position (so some tier 4's might end up tier 3's for some teams). Then, you draft the highest rated player in the highest tier left.
Meat
Thank you smartman....I also loathed Head Coach... What a waste of a perfectly great opportunity to make a great game. All they had to do was take a proven/solid concept and put a graphical/playcalling shine on it. They could have just taken a FOF type game, which they owned at one time and spent their dev time on making the gameday graphics/coaching/playcalling fit into it. BUT no they had to try and inovate and failed completely.
galleyfan
Yeah! I too bought in to the EA Sports Hype machine and for some stupid reason thought it would be a great game. At least better than the Madden one's. Premise was great but they somehow lost focus and finished the game like Rex Grossman. Real ugly!!!!!! I know that Arlie will not let us down. TPF was on the right track. I still have a league going. Hurry up already Arlie. We need it by Dec. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great weekend everyone, galleyfan out
Warriors
Especially if you factor in what the game could have been - Head Coach was easily the WORST game I have ever played in over 20 years of gaming - yes 20 years - my first game was the classic XOR NFL Challenge in the 80's. The number of mind numbing decisions made in that game by EA make no sense to me at all - they killed what was, in my mind at least the most promising idea in Sports Gaming in a long time. The worst part is I am sure they killed the series and never made a second one due to poor sales, and in their minds a lack of interest in the genre, rather then in the stone cold truth that they produced the worst collection of 1's and 0's ever produced. bitter, yes I am:mad:
