Inspire me to play TEW

Recommended Posts

I'm in a similar situation, I keep starting games and quitting after losing interest after a a few days play. The more I play, the more it seems to become more obvious that its a computer A.I. that I'm playing against and not another thinking player, especially when the some rules that apply to a player do not apply to the A.I.. Just now I think I'm going to try starting my own promotion in D.O.T.T. trying to keep British wrestling alive and popular, and hopefully get to national or international before anyone else does. I have no problem maintaining interest in multi player games however, its just somewhat difficult to get everyone together at the same time to have a good lengthy game.
I am having trouble getting in to it. I just can't seem to play it long term help me.
You could start up a game with the other poster, or.. I can't play modern set's of wrestling for more then a couple of months myself. Just seems to unreal after I get too far ahead of where we are now. What I always do now, is start with the historical mods. I try to put everyone in that I can for new worker's (without accidentally duplicating, which I hate). The only thing I can say is that it helps keep me interested, as I'm always trying to out do WWF/E by beating them to global or by just picking up the one's I know before they get a chance to.

I stick to my original game. Do not start over and over. It will become repetitive. I try to focus on the history behind my promotion. I made a top ever Heavyweight Holder ect. Time they help, total wina and losses of my wrestlers. Who had the most A* rated games. Then it becomes more interesting making a greatest ever list. For example the guy which had the most ever A* rated matches was Lobster Warrior!!!! 38 over a 7 year period!
I am having trouble getting in to it. I just can't seem to play it long term help me.
What exactly is the stumbling block? How far do you get? Is it keeping the game fresh/finding the game hard/finding the game easy?

Even when I'm not writing a dairy, I'm writing a dairy. I find it makes the game a whole lot more exciting when I'm more worried about the stories I'm telling and not beating the computer. Even when, as with my 5SSW game, the stories are told almost exclusively in the ring.

i don't understand this feeling you have. i've been rolling my original maw game since i purchased tew2007. i'm in 2013. i've started a couple of new games, and i play them for only a few weeks before loading up good ole maw. i go through periods where i play it a ton, then take a week or two off, but i'm way into it. i know this doesn't really help your situation, but i just wanted to chime in with my experiences with the game. good luck.

I really wanna play a long term cornellverse game. But can you build up feds like MAW to be like TCW? Can you turn a low pop wrestler into a superstar. I am having trouble thinking what is the point playing the game. I feel like I don't have enough control. If that makes sense. Tell me some of the great things you have done in the Cornellverse world. I have yet to do over a year.

Hey there, Jon! I think Apupunchau has a great idea. For me, at first I thought, "Oh great. Wrestling..." when I happened on Grey Dog. But then I tried it, and started a diary. And the game rocks for me. I find I don't have any lack of flavor, and even though it's not as detailed and graphic as a lot of "ant farm" games I've played (Civ IV, Age of Empires, etc), with the "behind the scenes" details I can put in with a diary, I feel like I have ultimate control. And the game is very much alive for me. But that's me. As for your questions: But can you build up feds like MAW to be like TCW? I'm totally new at this, but I bet you can! Can you turn a low pop wrestler into a superstar? I bet you can! Heck, I know you can. I see in posts on these forums people saying they do it all the time, and giving great advise on just how to do it. You betcha! At any rate, I suppose any game gives you what you put into it, like anything else in life. Maybe this just isn't your cup of tea. Maybe you genuinely don't like it. If that's the case, hey, it's your dime, go elsewhere and have a blast if you like. But I think that maybe, just maybe, you're looking at it purely from a game mechanics point of view. Therefore there's no emotional attachment to your play, therefore you have no deep satisfaction to what you try or accomplish. After all, for anyone to enjoy anything, there has to be that emotional connection, that emotional investment. So. If you really want to give this game the ultimate shake, try to find ways to connect with the game on that kind of emotional level. For some, it's exploring to discover all the intricacies in the game, all the different things that have large or little effects, then manipulating them to see what shakes loose. For others it's making a promo huge, or boosting a worker to the moon. For me, a diary hooked me in immediately. Now I find I spend an inordinate amount of time on TEW. And I often can't wait till I get caught up in writing, so I can play more, so I can have more to write... Hmmm. I spend an inordinate amount of time... I guess there's prices to pay for everything. *happy grin* Luck, Jon!

I guess since I was mentioned I'll hit off your questions as well. But can you build up feds like MAW to be like TCW? I mae a pure fed in the North West from scratch 0% pop 0% prestiege and 50k to start and I made it to international. Can you turn a low pop wrestler into a superstar? I did it in the Pure fed game but let's take a different example. In my current 5SSW I took DEVIL Karube from E (or maybe E+) to C+ (The Same as my top star Sensational Ogiwara) in two tours (5 month but actually only 3 of those on tour. As for control don't worry about what you can and can't do. Worry about the stories you can and can't tell. That may just be the gamer (D&D) in me but it's how the game never ever gets repetitive. Get yourself emotionally invovled. For me it's picking a few favorite wrestlers. I always try and give Steve Flash one last Main Event title run and I'll make my game completely around him.

I love playing the old D.O.T.T. games as either WCCW, the AWA, or some other promotion that died out, and try to revive them and turn them into what the WWE is today. So far I've started with WCCW at regional in '83 and by '87 I made it to National, the first promotion in the U.S. to do so. Oh and the WWF had collapsed, as they are now barely hanging on to cult level with no TV deals at all. I mean the AWA is even better then them.
Can you turn a low pop wrestler into a superstar.
well, from a T-Zone standpoint, I took Sara Del Rey from being D+ in Great Lakes, and like F- everywhere else to being A* in two regions, A in another and either B or B+ everywhere else. She's my most over superstar with Rebecca Knox in 2nd. So yes, you can.
But can you build up feds like MAW to be like TCW?
of course, but it takes time like everything else. You can't expect to go from local/small to national/global overnight. But even TCW isn't the be all end all of the Cornellverse. In fact, in the grand scheme of things, compared to other companies like SWF and NOTBPW, they still have their work cut out for them. It takes time, patience, and loads of C+D cards before you can start signing better talent or getting better card ratings and rising to cult or national. In my case, I got to cult in a year, and that was by running 3 shows a week. Almost two years later and I'm still cult and it's frustrating, esp when I see WWE fall from global to cult constantly and yet, even at cult and cutting talent, still booking B-B+ cards... If you want an idea on running a company like MAW check the diary section. MAW has been a very popular fed since the series first launched.

You sure can make a UK company global. The thing to realize is that nothing happens quickly. It takes planning and patience. I don't really mess with the Cornellverse just because I don't feel like going through and learning about all of the workers, I usually run 2 feds. One historical (DOTT or 1997 based) and one current so that I can keep fresh. Personally I never find it too much of a goal to go global..etc. The most fun I have with TEW is running a promotion to the best of my ability, putting on the best shows I can and when you're doing that the company will grow on its own.
Everytime I try and play Cornellverse I start in the UK, I don't think you can make a UK company global can you? I might start my own fed in the USA.
It could be done with a UK fed but would take a lot of time. In 2005 I had ROF at national and was well over in the UK and Europe. Things were a bit stalled, but by this time (it was about 2013, I think!) quite a few wrestlers had become available to work in the UK from other countries. So I opened a 2nd brand as 'ROF Japan' and got to work building overness there. 2007 came out before I could gain any further foothold in the wrestling world though and get myself to international or global! And I've not really had much chance to play 2007 to that extent yet. If you are working as a UK fed, Japanese promotions will generally take the likes of Matravers and O'Curle on tour which can boost their overness out there. Then there are one or two other workers like UK Dragon and Barry Griffin with some overness out there to start with. Get a few workers like these on your roster, you can have some shows out there and start to build overness in those areas. If any Japanese workers have been unemployed after the first couple of years, grab them to work for you too. Also use talent trades - workers that aren't available in the UK can work for you if you talent trade them. So the workers with some Japanese overness can be traded for others with low overness but good skills that could help you grow there. You could do similarly with JD Morgan in the States, Harry Wilson in Canada...all just takes time, and you need the money behind you to be able to do it as well. I think getting a UK fed far in the game is a good challenge - but you've got to be willing to invest plenty of time into it.
