Through Power, We Survive - A WCW Story

Where had the wrestling world gone? Through the eons many promotions had stood out and the masses thought of them to be successful in conquering the strained business that was professional wrestling. But none have been more then the tale of the World Wrestling Federation. Going from a regional gathering to a global confederation and having a striking deal in creating some of the most popular superstars to date. Through decades of hard work and sustaining will Vincent Kennedy McMahon modeled the greatest promotion to date. It had it's setbacks and quarrels but overall the reign of the WWF has been indeed a boastful one. Now one of these setbacks, which evolved to into a war, was known as "The Monday Night War". It pitted two gigantic individuals; WWF and WCW, up against each other in a ratings battle seen nowhere else on the planet. Not only did they trade rating victories but several performers as well. Through the course of the war WWF lost Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to Bischoff's major corporation while, at a crucial moment, WCW let Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn slip over to the WWF. At the point of the final clash between RAW and Nitro Vince McMahon had managed to acquire the services of all WCW, in effectively purchasing the stock of the company. He had slain his eternal rival and brought Eric Bischoff to his knees in a spectacular showing of power. The cult phenomenon and hardcore sect of Extreme Championship Wrestling also had to see themselves beaten only but a month later. The bright story of the World Wrestling Federation and it's ventures was to continue onwards into the distant future. But what if the scenario had looked somewhat different? A new but yet unknown factor walking into the playing field of the two rivaling federations? Everyone is yet to forget the group that was named Fusient Media Ventures. Through an alliance with Eric Bischoff they sought to buy WCW right under the nose of Vince McMahon and rob him of his dream of peace. But a devastating decision made by Jamie Kellner of Turner Broadcasting System, halted the stampede of the faction. Kellner took away the television broadcast services of WCW and expelled both Monday Nitro and Thunder from the screens. This made Bischoff, Bedol and Greenberg to back away from the contract, leaving the dotted line unsigned and giving Vince McMahon his chance of ending the war once and for all. But what if Bischoff had somehow managed to convince his cohorts in Fusient Media to still invest in WCW despite the fact that it had no exposure on national television? Imagine that they had agreed and given the required money for the purchase of the company. This would sparked new life into the war between the two global wrestling factions despite the lesser not having a secure television deal. This is now a fact. Fusient Media Ventures was assigned the conquerors of the WCW sell and were now in control of the struggling promotion. Now, Bischoff had a plan. As every person should, he had learned form his past mistakes. WCW had been ruled by the older generation and in light of this he began re-thinking his version of WCW. The prime executive of dominance in WCW had been Hulk Hogan. Many kind internet fans had attested the fall of WCW on him and proclaimed him the criminal in the various events that brought WCW to it's knees. But before any action could be taken against the contract of which Hogan held, the man himself came fourth and testamented his retirement from wrestling. This shocked many and not only the WCW employees. Suddenly Bischoff forgot past mistakes and opened his eyes to his own version. Hulk Hogan was gone from WCW and a substitute was needed! The immediate state that WCW found itself in was somewhat confusing. A running rumor through the locker-rooms explained that after Hogan had made the decision Ric Flair and Sid Vicious played around with the thought of going into total retirement as well. In exact words, many said that the two discussed disappearing from the business entirely, after both men successful careers. Since these rumors Eric Bischoff declared WCW "On Hiatus" and inactive until further notice. This was reasoned with the fact that no agreement with a functioning broadcasting station had been reached but in truth and reality, Bischoff was looking for opportunities elsewhere. It was also set fourth because of the before-mentioned rumors of retirement as now it was really a race against time to find a substitute. A month passed and no apparent news had come the side of WCW. The loyal fans feared yet another implosion as they sat in their homes, having nothing to react too except their own grievous predictions. And then the conviction and judgment came. The Nature Boy announced his retirement from professional wrestling and from WCW, just as Hulk Hogan had done before him. But in light of all these happenings, Eric Bischoff still had attitudes to deal with. The likes of Kevin Nash, Goldberg and Lex Luger still occupied a place on the roster and despite all three realizing the state that WCW was in they were always more self-oriented then team playing. Bischoff had to think fast. In order for the promotion not to lose face, fans and die out once more he had given a conference message that World Championship Wrestling would be resurrected in May. And with no apparent kick-starter the federation was likely to fall behind again and fade in the light of the WWF. But at least one stroke of light had poured down and lit some of the way that Bischoff walked on. He had struck an agreement with HBO to broadcast Nitro and Thunder but the contract had secured, through Bischoff, that Nitro would not be in direct competition with Monday Night RAW. And now came just the final piece of the puzzle. In the last moment, when all seem to failed and people lowered their heads in shame, one man came forth to manage a presence. After speaking to Eric Bischoff several months ago he had shaped up and trained, revitalizing himself and rethought his measures. He was a changed man. When all seemed bleak he stepped into the WCW offices and stormed to Eric Bischoff, placed his name on the dotted contract line and promised that he would help in kick-starting the new venture of WCW. In his own eyes, he had been passed by and ignored even though he was a great superstar and well-known performer. He had been neglected for too long and now sought to redeem himself in the eyes of every man involved in the professional wrestling business. Bischoff had given him a second chance and he was greeted with open arms as he entered the headquarters of WCW in Atlanta, Georgia. This man was known by one name only; he was a Warrior amongst men and a true fighter for his beliefs. An Inside Look #1 Through Power, We Survive
======================== WRESTLING OBSERVER NEWSLETTER ======================== Monday, Week 1, May As World Championship Wrestling readies it's relaunch edition of Nitro, the Wrestling Observer decided to provide you, the reader, with some up-to-date information regarding the promotion. As everyone probably has realized, WCW has lost two major assets in Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair following both mens retirement. And an even more spotted factor is the return of The Ultimate Warrior. Now in light of this signing, Eric Bischoff has cut some of the "dead weight" from the roster; people who were either stale in the performance or long since overdue a release. As part of the rehauling of the roster Air Paris and AJ Styles have both been sent to NWA: Wildside, the regent 'fedding leagues' for WCW. Christopher Daniels has taken that path also and WCW has obtained total control of all three men, effectively eliminating their independent status. As for releases Tank Abbott, Alan Funk, Reno, M.I. Smooth and The Wall have all been given the ticket and are now accepting booking agreements on the independent scene. On a subsequent note, Bischoff has also scourged said independent scene and gathered a troupe of wrestlers who recently received try-outs matches. Of those coming through intact were Brent Albright and Ken Anderson. They will be accompanied by Caprice Coleman and Onyx who already worked for Wildside but not under a Developmental contract though. The before-mentioned two has now been signed to such agreements though. Kenny Kaos has also been assigned to Wildside despite not under a Developmental contract but under a PPA deal instead. It is expected that he will reform the High Voltage tag team with Robbie Rage, who is already a regular of the promotion. We also bring an exclusive Nitro preview as it is sure that The Ultimate Warrior will make his debut in some form or another on this day. Other than that, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. are scheduled to defend the Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship against Shane Helms and Jason Jett. Reports have come in that Kevin Nash might be present on the show but since no news has evicted regarding his proposed retirement, this could very well just be rumors.
