WSX in 2001

Recommended Posts

Backstory Wrestling Society X was founded in May 2001 by entrepreneur and lifelong wrestling fan Steven Ross. Steven put a million dollars of his own money into the Southern Calfornia based business. Steven quickly signed dozens of wrestlers into per appearance contracts including Tommy Dreamer, Steve Corino The Sandman and Chris Candido. He also signed Joey Styles to call the action. With his roster set in place, Steve went to the networks and was shot down by all of them. Finally, the Bravo channel decided to take a chance on them if they could get Vince Russo (they seem to believe his story of being a ratings magician) and a celebrity host. Russo signed on as both an on-screen talent and a writer. As for the celebrity, they couldn't get Dennis Rodman, so they contacted his ex-wife Carmen Electra. It turns out the she is a huge wrestling fan and quickly agreed to a contract. With the stipulations met, Bravo and WSX soon came to an agreement. WSX TV will be shown weekly on Bravo Friday nights at midnight. During this time WSX also came to terms with the PPV carrier UrbanXtra. The first WSX PPV will be on the fourth Saturday of May called WSX Initiation. It is expected that the first WSX World Champion will be crowned at the event.

WSX Initiation Live from the Cox Center in front of a sold out crowd of 10,000 fans! Dark Match: [IMG][/IMG] vs Shark Boy pinned Trent Acid in just under seven minutes with the Deep Sea Drop. They mostly played it as a comedy match. (C+) The show begins now! Carmen Electra welcomes us and says we’re about to witness history. (C+) A well-produced hype video is played. (C-) The Canadian national anthem is played as the Ballard Brothers walk out with Canadian flags. They get on the mic and talk about how much better Canada is than America. (E) Air Styles vs The Ballard Brothers vs AJ and Paris destroy the Ballards with quick tandem offence. They isolate Shane and work over his arm for a bit until Paris gets caught with a flying forearm. Air Paris plays face-in-peril for several minutes until he makes the hot tag to AJ Styles. Styles cleans house and Air Styles soon pick up the pinfall victory at 10:27 (C-) Alicia Webb is backstage with Steve Corino, who promises to fulfill his destiny and win the WSX World Championship and lead the company to greatness. (C+) Tommy Dreamer vs CW Anderson vs They do a standard punch-kick brawl. The action spills to the outside where Dreamer blades. Back in Dreamer quickly brawls back and nails the DDT for the pin at 8:42 (C+) Alexis Laree, Kyoko Inoue and Tracy Brooks are backstage. Alexis says she wants to show off her skills, Tracy wants to prove that girl wrestlers can be just as good as the guys, and Kyoko says something in Japanese. (E+) A hype video for Kid Kash airs. He claims to be better than all of us. (D+) Mikey Whipwreck vs Super Calo vs Calo dominates early with some lucha stuff but gets caught with a knee to the gut. Mikey takes over working on Calo’s midsection until Calo makes his comeback Super Calo hits his Super Calo drop for the pin at 9:44 (C) Mikey and Calo shake hands. (D+) Vince Russo comes out and applauds the sportsmanship and says that he’s turned over a new leaf. He apologizes if he offended anyone during his time in WCW and says he’s leaned from his mistakes and will work hard to gain the fans’ trust. (B-) CM Punk, Paul London and Carly Colon vs Samoa Joe, Frankie Kazarian and B-Boy vs All six men go at it to start. Things eventually settle down as Punk and Kazarian do a nice chain wrestling sequence. Carly gets tagged in and hit’s a springboard body press for 2. Frankie tags B-Boy in and quickly gets out-classed by Carly. London comes in and continues to beat on B-Boy. Finally Punk gets tagged in and finishes the match with a Pepsi Plunge at 11:31 (D+) Terry Funk gets interviewed by Alicia Webb backstage. He says he still hasn’t gotten over losing an I Quit match to Ric Flair all those years ago, and tonight he’s going to unleash his pent-up rage on David and make him quit. He finishes by saying David Flair may be Ric Flair’s son, but he isn’t, nor will he ever be half the man Ric is. (B) We cut over to another part of the arena where Samoa Joe is stomping a mudhole into Shark Boy. (E-) Scorpio vs. Chris Candido vs A surprisingly awkward match. They start off fast but miss every other spot, so they slow things down with a bunch of chinlocks and armbars. Scorpio eventually hit’s a moonsault for the pin at 13:32 (C+) We see a video package for Eric Angle, who claims Kurt got him fired from the WWF due to Kurt’s jealousy of Eric’s far superior wrestling skills. (C-) Marty Jannetty vs. Eric Angle vs Eric tries to showboat early but gets out maneuvered at every turn by Marty. An old-fashioned thumb to the eye gets the momentum to swing in Angle’s favor. Olympic Slam gets a very close 2 count. Eric misses a top rope elbow drop allowing Marty to comeback. Eric slaps on a sleeper hold to put an end to that. Marty fights out of it though but gets caught with a German suplex. Eric applies the ankle lock but Marty reaches the ropes, so Angle simply pulls him off and re-applies the hold. Marty tries to fight out of it and rolls Eric up in the process getting the 3 count at 16:48 (C) Alicia Webb is with Tommy Dreamer in the back. Dreamer gives an emotional promo about how he knows he isn’t entitled to the WSX Championship, but he’s going to win it anyway because no on wants it more than he does. (C-) The Sandman does his usual entrance. (C+) The Sandman vs. Steve Corino vs Before the match starts Vince Russo shows up to make the match a Hardcore match. The audience approves. (D) Sandman destroys Corino with his cane until it breaks, so he tries to stab him with it instead. Corino hides behind the ref, so Sandman knocks the poor ref out. Corino tries to hide in the crowd but Sandman catches him and busts him open using a fan’s camera, then sends Corino rolling down the stairs. Back in the ref has revived and makes a two count for Sandman. Sandman goes outside to grab a chair and wallops Corino with it. Sandman then wraps the chair around Corino’s neck, but Corino rolls to the outside before anything comes of it. Sandman follows where a female fan (who just happens to look a lot like Allison danger, Steve Corino’s real life sister) jumps on his back and digs her nails into his face. Corino hit’s a lowblow on Sandman and knocks his head off with a cameraman’s camera. Corino crawls back in the ring and watches as security drags the “fan” away. Sandman stumbles back into the ring where he suffers an Old School Explosion. Corino picks up the pin at 12:50 (C-) Joey Styles runs down the list of participants in the Top Ten Challenge match. (D) Alexis Laree, Kyoko Inoue and Tracy Brooks vs. Aja Kong, Akira Houto and Jazz vs The faces rule the match to start when Tracy gets caught in the wrong corner. The heels systematically dissect Brooks until Aja hit’s the Urakan for the pin at 7:35 (D-) Alicia is with David Flair in front of his locker room. He claims that he doesn’t need to be better than his father to beat that washed-up never-was Terry Funk. (C-) Terry Funk vs. David Flair vs David does his best Ric Flair imitation, but no one buys it. He spends some time working on Terry’s knee and locks on the figure four. He slaps Terry a bunch of times while in the hold, so naturally Funk reverses it. David lets go and gets worked over by Terry for the remainder of the match. Funk locks on his own figure four for the submission victory at 8:33 (C-) Carmen Electra and Vince Russo walk out with the WSX World title. They cut a quick promo hyping the belt and the promotion. They take a seat next to Joey Styles and place the belt next to the monitor. (C) Top Ten Challenge vs vs vs vs vs vs vs vs vs Tommy Dreamer is out first followed by Scorpio. They shake hands and try to actually wrestle. Super Calo is third and has a short spotfest with Scorpio. Steve Corino is next. He and Dreamer brawl while Scorpio backdrops Calo out of the ring for the first elimination. AJ Styles is fifth and gets beat up by Corino. Air Paris is number six. Air Styles double team the crap out of Corino so he crawls under the bottom rope for a breather. Unfortunately for him, CM Punk is lucky number seven. Punk goes right after Corino and tosses him back in the ring as Dreamer tosses Air Paris out for our second elimination. Carly Colon is eighth as Joey Styles shills for the WSX TV show. Corino rolls AJ Styles up for a quick pin. Paul London is ninth and goes after Steve Corino. Scorpio gets a victory roll on Carly for our fourth elimination. Marty Jannetty is our final participant and zeros in on Corino. Dreamer hit’s the DDT on Scorpio for the pin. Marty and Tommy double team Corino while Punk tosses London. Dreamer, Corino, Punk and Marty Jannetty are the final four. All three faces take turn beating on Corino when Punk comes up behind Marty and tosses him out. Dreamer sees this and seems shocked that Punk would do that. Punk says it’s every man for himself so they both attack each other. They battle next to the ropes so Corino runs up and sends both of them over the top for the win and the title at 24:31 (C+) Winner and First Ever WSX World Champion Steve Corino WSX World Champion Steve Corino gloats with the belt as the show ends. WSX News WSX Initiation drew about 37,000 buys. It is believed Steven Ross is pleased with how well the show went. The majority of the fan reaction has so far been positive, though there is small yet vocal group that think there isn't enough "star power" on the roster for there liking. The road agents were impressed with AJ Style's performance and were pleasantly surprised that Terry Funk could still wrestle at a high calibere. Terry's performance was needed to hide David Flair's weaknesses. It is hoped that the premiere of WSX on Bravo will draw a 2.00 and stay around there on a consistent basis. The show will be taped on Tuesdays to be shown Friday nights at midnight. The Bravo channel can be seen all across the USA and Canada.

I don't know, just have fun and continue this!

He stands for traditional wrestling and a victory for Steve Corino is a win for tradition. Steve then says that Sandman will never get a shot at the WSX World title as long as he’s the champ. 2nd week of June 2001 WSX on Bravo! Taped at the North Carolina Biker Museum in front of a sold out crowd of 2,000 fans. Tonight we will begin the search for the first WSX World Tag Team Champions. The match between the Nu-Wave Runners and The Shanes will be for a spot in the Tag Team Championship match at Pier 6 Brawl. Oh, and that match is happening right now! Nu-Wave Runners vs. The Shanes vs This was more of an exhibition for the Runners. They do some nice quick tandem moves before The Shanes get in some token offense. The Runners fight back and hit a body splash/leg drop double team move on the prone Mike Shane for the pin at 7:31 (D+) The Ballard Brothers run in and beat the Runners down. (E+) The Ballards grab a mic, praise Canada and challenge Air Styles to a rematch. (E) Commercials CM Punk vs. CW Anderson vs Excellent match that had the crowd go from mostly apathetic to counting along to every near fall. The match ends when Punk gets the Devil’s Lock on Anderson for the submission victory at 10:32 (B-) Commercials Kid Kash is in the ring and says he’s waited all week and has still not received one answer to his challenge. Paul London walks out and says he'll take Kash on. London walks towards the ring when Kash tells him to hold up. The challenge wasn’t for a match tonight. He’s not going to let the people watch his wrestling debut on free TV. Instead he’s going to make all of us wait until Pier 6 Brawl for that. Kash will face London then. (D+) Alicia Webb is with Samoa Joe backstage. Joe says the beating he gave Shark Boy last week was just the beginning. Tonight, the Amazing Red will just be an amazing red stain on his boots. (E+) The Amazing Red vs. Samoa Joe vs Red fairs slightly better than Shark Boy did by moving around and hitting some quick strikes. Joe hits a big heel kick to take over and destroy Red. Joe toys with Red a bit before hitting an Island Driver to pick up the win at 4:44 (E) Joe makes good on his threat by stomping Red’s face in. (F+) Alica Webb is with Tommy Dreamer in the back. Dreamer says he’s always looked up to Terry Funk as both a wrestler and as a man. When he saw what Eric Angle and David Flair were about to do to Terry last week, he couldn’t just sit and let it happen. Tommy then says he’s going to beat Angle. (D) Commercials Tommy Dreamer vs. Eric Angle vs Both men look motivated and put on another great match tonight. Angle controls most of it with suplexes and holds while Dreamer does a great job of timing his comebacks with brawling. Angle looks to finish Dreamer off when Tommy nails a DDT out of nowhere for the pin at 9:50. (C+) Alicia earns her paycheck with yet another interview. This time it’s with Alexis Laree. Alexis is taking on Akira Hokuto tonight and looks forward to proving herself as a worthy competitor. (E+) Break time. Alexis Laree vs. Akira Hokuto vs Akira keeps it basic for Alexis but still manages to put on a solid match. Alexis shows lots of fire and seems almost too hyped. Alexis grabs the win with a jumping DDT at 6:47. (D+) Hype video for Devon Storm. The video depicts him as a loner type character who lurks in the shadows. (C) Joey Styles tells us that Mikey Whipwreck will be taking on Devon Storm next week. (D) Steve Corino makes his way over to the announce table and takes a seat next to Joey. He’ll be helping Styles call the action for our main event. (D+) Enter Sandman blares over the sound system as The Sandman does his patented entrance while Corino shouts about Sandman not being worthy of this opportunity. (D) Commercials Triple Threat #1 Contender’s Match The Sandman vs. Chris Candido vs. Marty Jannetty vs vs Winner of this match faces Corino at Pier 6 Brawl. Jannetty and Sandman team up on Candido. Styles thinks Corino is scared of Sandman, which Corino says is untrue. He’ll gladly beat Sandman again. Styles and Corino get into an argument over whether or not Corino needed his sister’s help at Initiation as the Jannetty/Sandman alliance falls apart. We take our final break and return to find Candido getting a 2 on Jannetty. Corino says he would much rather fight either one of them than Sandman because they respect tradition. Jannetty and Candido trade wrestling holds as Sandman tries to sneak his Singapore cane in, only to be foiled by the ref. Jannetty looks to hit the Rocker Dropper on Candido when Sandman levels him with a clothesline. Candido and Sandman trade punches with Sandman winning the exchange. Sandman stops to pose and falls victim to a missile dropkick from Marty for a very close near fall. He and Chris toss Sandman out of the ring. They both go at it. Candido looks for a back body drop but gets hit with a Rocker Dropper instead. Marty Jannetty wins it at 13:34 (C-) Jannetty and Corino have a staredown to close the show. (D)

The Great Debate Last week Marty Jannetty won the right to face Steve Corino for the WSX world Championship at Pier 6 Brawl. Our Champion has requested a face-to-face meeting with his challenger in an interview to be hosted by Carmen Electra. Will this be a civilized meeting of the minds? Or will egos and tempers explode? Also last week we discovered that Paul London will answer Kid Kash's challenge. While Kash is saving himself for the PPV, Paul London will grace us with his presence as he takes on B-Boy. The Ballard Brothers laid out a challenge of their own to Air Styles. Will the Ballards get their rematch? Who will the Nu-Wave Runners take on in the WSX World title match at Pier 6 Brawl? We'll find out as Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang take on the team of The Amazing Red and Shawn Daivari. As we heard last night, Devon Storm will be making his WSX debut against Mikey Whipwreck. Will Mikey be able to withstand this Storm? All this plus CM Punk vs Trent Acid and Tracy Brooks vs Aja Kong and much more!

3rd week of June 2001 WSX on Bravo! Taped from the War Memorial Auditorium in front of a sold out audience of 2,000. Dark Match: Carly Colon vs. CW Anderson vs Carly looked good in there but still lost when Anderson hit him with a devastating spinebuster at 10:22 (C+) Carmen Electra welcomes us to the show. (C+) The Amazing Red and Shawn Daivari vs. Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang vs The heels were in charge for most of the match and won it after Yang hit a dragon suplex on Daivari for the pin at 7:43. (D+) Samoa Joe runs in after the match, tosses Red out of the ring, and proceeds to hit an Island Driver on Daivari. (F+) On his way out, Joe slaps Joey Styles. (D) Commercials Paul London vs. B-Boy vs London out-wrestles B-Boy at every turn when Kid Kash shows up at the entrance way to watch. That’s enough to distract London and allow B-Boy to take over. A couple minutes later London gets himself back into the match and and hit’s a Dropsault for the pin at 9:30. (C+) A hype video for Aja Kong appears. Commercials Eric Angle and David Flair get into the ring and grab a mic. David claims to be better than his father while Eric states that he’s a better wrestler than his brother. They then complain about Tommy Dreamer sticking his nose into other people’s business. They challenge Dreamer to come out here and face them. Tommy shows up and gets in the ring. He admits he showed up when he wasn’t invited two weeks ago, but like he’s said before, he couldn’t let anything bad happen to Terry Funk. Eric says, “That’s too bad ‘cause now something bad is about to happen to you.” They back Dreamer into a corner when Terry Funk runs out with a chair and chases the heels out. (D) Alicia Webb is backstage with Tracy Brooks. Tracy says she respects Aja Kong, but doesn’t fear her. She then compares wrestling Kong to cow-tipping. (E) Commercials Tracy Brooks vs. Aja Kong vs Tracy tries to match strength with Kong and quickly looses. Kong tears Tracy apart. A brief comeback attempt by Tracy is cut short by a Kong Samoan splash. Kong finishes with an Urakan at 5:37. (D+) Commercials The Ballard Brothers are in the ring finishing singing the Canadian national anthem. They wonder if Air Styles are a couple of cowards before restating their challenge. (E-) Air Styles walk in and accept the challenge saying that they’re only accepting because they weren’t invited to the Tag title mini-tourney. (D+) Joey Styles intros a hype video for Chris Hero. The video portrays him as an army brat who is proud of his family. (D-) Commercials CM Punk vs. Trent Acid vs Both men try to one-up each other, which is ultimately won by Punk. They do a couple high-flying spots before Punk hits a Pepsi Plunge to pick up the pin at 6:40. (C) Alicia is with Mikey Whipwreck. Mikey says he’s heard a lot of rumors about Devon Storm, and none of them make him feel good about being his opponent. Alicia says the match is next, which gets a groan from Mikey. (D) Commercials Mikey Whipwreck vs. Devon Storm vs Mikey tries to hide until Devon catches him. Devon dominates until Mikey starts to hit some desperation moves to come back. Soon Mikey is showing some self-confidence and starts to go for the win. The crowd gets into it as Joey Styles cheers him on. Joey says he’s being told to go to commercials, but refuses because we might see an upset. Mikey hits a top rope leg drop for a very, very close near fall. That seems to have thrown Mikey off his groove as he seems at a loss to put Storm away. Soon, Storm fires back and hits a series of suplexes and strikes before putting Mikey away with an inverted DDT at 15:53. (C+) Commercials Joey Styles tells us that next week we’ll see Sandman take on CW Anderson. (D) Carmen Electra is in the ring and introduces Marty Jannetty and WSX World Champion Steve Corino. Marty says it’ll an honor to be fighting for the WSX World Championship at Pier 6 Brawl. Corino says Jannetty represents every wrestler over the last couple of decades; he started off as a young lion trying to re-invent or change the game. Jannetty tried to be different with his high-flying moves, flashy ring attire and devil-may-care attitude. However, as he aged, Jannetty realized that traditional wrestling is the best form is wrestling. Gone are the flying head scissor and backflips. Now Jannetty relies on headlocks, armlocks and other traditional moves. However, it’s too late for Jannetty now as Corino has mastered the old school style and will give Marty a wrestling lesson he’ll never forget. Carmen then asks Jannetty about his thoughts on Corino as a champion. Marty says Corino is a proven champion as he’s proven that he’s afraid of the Sandman. He’s ashamed to have Corino represent the WSX as he’s a coward and a fraud. Corino is not the king of old school, new school nor any other school. Marty is going to give Corino a lesson at the school of hard knocks and take the WSX title from him and make sure that Sandman gets the first title shot because unlike Corino, Marty doesn’t back down from anyone. The two go nose-to-nose as Corino raises the WSX championship above his head.

Hero wins it with the Hero’s welcome at 8:57. (C-) Carmen Electra welcomes us in a pre-taped video from a beach. After her dialogue, she runs away from the camera as a knock-off of the Baywatch theme song plays. (C+) The Sandman makes his usual crowd pleasing entrance. (D) The Sandman vs. CW Anderson vs Wild brawl in which the poor ref looses complete control. The action spills to the outside as ref counts them both out at 6:47. (C+) Sandman and Anderson continue brawling in the crowd, fighting their way up a flight of stairs and into a concession area. (D-) Commercials WSX World Champion Steve Corino and Chris Candido get interviewed by Alicia Webb backstage. They mock Marty Jannetty and Scorpio as being nobodies and promise victory. (D+) CM Punk vs. Teddy Hart vs They put on a technically solid match, but they just don’t seem to have much chemistry. Punk wins it by pin after a Pepsi Plunge at 8:42. (C+) Commercials We come back to Joey Styles mediating an interview between Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang and the Nu-Wave Runners on a split screen. Yang and Ki say they will dominate while the Runners pretend that they can’t understand what they are saying. This upsets Low-Ki and Yang to the point where they start yelling and destroying their set until Low-Ki kicks the camera, causing us to lose their feed. The Runners feign fear. (D+) Joey then sends us to a video package highlighting Samoa Joe’s path of destruction. (D-) Commercials Kyoko Inoue vs. Allison Corino vs Kyoko simply outclasses Allison throughout the match. Allison rakes the eyes to briefly take over. Kyoko calmly retakes the advantage and finishes with a Niagara Driver at 7:32. (D+) Samoa Joe runs down and lays Kyoko out with an Island Driver. (F) Commercials The Ballard Brothers are in the ring talking smack about Air Styles. (E-) The Amazing Red and Shawn Daivari vs. The Ballard Brothers vs The faces get in a decent amount of offence, but this was mainly a showcase for the Ballards who win it with a Ballard Breaker at 8:57. (D-) Commercials Vince Russo is sitting at his desk as he tells us that he’s found the next big superstar and that he’s already been signed to WSX. That star is none other than Shane Michaels. (D) Tommy Dreamer’s music begins to play and we cut back to the arena. Dreamer grabs a mic and gets in the ring. He lays out a challenge to David Flair and Eric Angle for a tag match at Pier 6 Brawl against himself and Terry Funk. Flair and Angle pop up on the big screen and accept. (D-) Marty Jannetty and Scorpio are seen backstage getting ready for their match. (D+) Marty Jannetty and Scorpio vs. WSX Champion Steve Corino and Chris Candido vs Marty wants Corino, but gets Candido to start instead. The faces work Candido over for a while until Corino knees Jannetty’s back as he runs the ropes. Corino tags in and starts stomping Marty as we take our last break. We come back as Jannetty is still being worked over. Jannetty fights back and nearly makes the hot tag when Candido cuts him off. Marty fights back again and gets the hot tag for real. Scorpio levels both heels. Corino rolls outside and grabs his title belt but gets drop kicked before he can use it. Marty blind tags himself back in making it all four men in the ring. Marty scores a rollup on Corino during the chaos getting the pinfall at 17:43. (C-) Overall show rating: D+

Hot tag to AJ and it looks like a victory for the good guys when the Ballards pull the old switch-a-roo leading to Shane Ballard getting the rope assisted pin on AJ at 10:01 (C-) The Ballards each grab a chair and lay out Air Styles and cover them with a Canadian flag. (E) Alicia Webb is backstage with Kid Kash. Kash says that at long last, we will see the debut of the most exciting man to ever lace up a pair of boots. Paul London, prepare to lose. (D-) Paul London vs. Kid Kash vs They trade wrestling holds to start with Kash taking over thanks to some well placed punches. Kash spends almost as much time posing for the fans as he does on trying to beat London. Kash gets increasingly frustrated after repeated attempts to put London away. Kid yells at the ref for counting too slowly allowing London to sneak up behind him for a rollup and the win at 12:45. (C) Kid Kash yells at the ref for counting too quickly and complains to various fans on his way out. (E) Paul London stays in the ring to play to the fans when Samoa Joe sneaks in and levels him. The faces take a powder so Kong and Jazz square off. Kong lets Jazz do couple running shoulder blocks leading to Jazz actually knocking her down. Kyoko and Alexis get back in and join Jazz in triple teaming Kong. They all hit her with kicks and forearm shots, Kyoko hits her with a drop kick and Alexis gets her jumping DDT. They all get on top of her for the pin. Aja gets eliminated at 5:01. Jazz quickly turns on the others, dumps Kyoko to the outside, and tears Alexis apart with power moves. Jazz hits Alexis with a power bomb to pin her at 7:12. Kyoko hits the unsuspecting Jazz with a flying forearm and unloads a flurry of stiff forearm shots. Jazz battles back but runs into a Niagara Driver to give Kyoko the pinfall victory and the WSX Women’s title at 10:51. (D) Kyoko celebrates with the fans. (E-) Alicia Webb interviews WSX World Champion Steve Corino. Corino says that Marty Jannetty got a fluke pin on him, but tonight there will be no mistakes and no new WSX World Champion. (C-) Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk vs. Eric Angle and David Flair vs Dreamer and Funk clean house to start. Angle gets bounced around before tagging out to David Flair who also gets bounced around. Angle gets tagged back in and resumes getting beat up until he fires off a quick German suplex to turn the tide. Angle and Flair pick Funk apart with Angle working on Funk’s neck and back and Flair working on his leg. Terry makes a couple rallies only to be foiled by his opponents just before he can make the hot tag. Funk fights out of Angle’s sleeper hold and actually does make the tag, but the ref doesn’t see because of Flair. The two continue to tear Funk apart for the remainder of the match until Angle finally ends it with an Angle Slam at 14:44. (C) Simon Diamond walk to the ring. Simon has a problem. He signed on to the WSX back in May and has yet to have a match or even an interview thus far. Simon is frustrated due the lack of respect he’s been shown thus far. Simon wants some competition. (B-) CM Punk comes out and says that Simon is about to get some competition and heads to the ring. (C) Vince Russo pops up on the jumbo screen and says that they’ll get to have their match, but not tonight. They’ll have it on the next WSX on Bravo! (C-) Scorpio vs. Chris Candido vs They tried, but these two just do not click at all. It appeared as though Scorpio was off his game too. Being the vets they are, they realized this before it got ugly and played it safe. Both played to the crowd a lot more than they normally do. Anyways, Candido targets Scorpio’s leg forcing Scorpio to change his game plan to being mat based. Candido seems to be able to out wrestle Scorpio, forcing Scorpio to keep going for rollup attempts until one finally works at 16:44. (C-) Joey Styles reminds us to tune into WSX on Bravo! as we will not only see CM Punk vs. Simon Diamond, but our new champions will be “hazed” as both the WSX Women’s and WSX Tag titles will both be defended. (D) WSX World Championship Steve Corino vs. Marty Jannetty vs Long feeling-out process to start as they work off of headlocks and armbars. Marty starts getting into a groove as he does some fancy counters to Corino’s holds. Corino gets angry and resorts to brawling tactics. Marty slips out of a surfboard and fires back at Corino as the fans start a “lets go Marty“ chant. The champ hits a lowblow on Marty and hits an Old School Explosion to get the pin at 20:06, deflating the crowd. (B-) WSX Champ Steve Corino celebrates in the ring as some fans throw stuff at him on their way out. (D+) Overall rating: C
