This prompted an attack by Rhodes on Jacobs following the match, finished with a sickening DDT onto the title belt. -Thanks to Orton getting the ear of Teddy Long this time around, John Cena had to face both the Great Khali and Mark Henry in a handicap match. Cena put up a valiant fight but ended up losing. After the match, Randy Orton attacks with a steel chair and ends up RKO'ing Cena onto the chair. -MVP won a #1 contenders match to compete against Matt Hardy on a future date for the United States Title. Teddy Long would be happy for the title to be taken off of Hardy who jumped to RAW. -Stevie Richards beat Brian Kendrick in a pretty awesome match that ended up seeing Shawn Micheals interfere at the end and attack Stevie. -In the main event, the team of Rey Mysterio and Samoa Joe beat the Evolution team of Batista and Carlito after Joe pinned Batista with a Muscle Buster. After the match, CM Punk attacked Joe. The card was generally by fans as a pretty good card [b+] and it had an attendance of 9,251 with a rating of 25.26 on the CW.

-Your July Recap! -The almost seventh month reign of Scott Steiner as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion came to an end on an episode of TNA Tornado. Many remember that Steiner was the man who had won the vacant title [following the tragic death of Kurt Angle]. In a fatal fourway main event, Jeff Jarrett once again became King of the Mountain in a match that involved Steiner, Goldberg and Christian. It was later revealed at the conclusion of July that Scott Steiner had retired. - The vacant position of WWE RAW GM was filled [following Ric Flair's departure from the company] by the legendary Hot Rod, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. -Teddy Hart was hired and spent both RAW and the last Nitro working matches but no-showed the Smackdown taping and was immediately fired. That may be a new record. -Backstage issues with both the WCW talent and just the fact that the majority of the fans were railing against the product caused Vince McMahon, maybe still hurting from the failure of his "ECW", to pull the plug almost immediately. This led to a one time WWE event, "One Night Only: WWE vs. WCW". -This was preluded by a Great American Bash card, the only one to be ran under the WCW brand, that saw an impressive match between RVD and Brock Lesnar. There was also rumors, following a beat down on Eric Bischoff by Nick Dinsmore, Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo at the behest of Paul Heyman, that a Dangerous Alliance may be coming. Sting had faced Rock in a 2 out of 3 falls match that saw Sting lose two matches in a row, the last one actually with Eric Bischoff calling for the bell the moment Rock put Sting in the Sharpshooter. It was Montreal all over again it seemed...Abyss and Brock put the beatdown on Sting, adding more insult to injury since Sting, per stips, had to retire. However the crowd got excited by the fact that Eric Young debuted, saving Sting. Chris Jericho came out and laid down a "shooty" promo, a promo that many believe alluded to the issues that would be revealed the next night on RAW and then he changed gears and put down a challenge to the Rock...within the confines of the steel cage! This led to a terrific main event that saw Jericho almost lose the same way he did earlier in the month but for Sting and Young to stave off Brock and Abyss, hence Jericho managed to become WCW World Champ! -On the very next RAW, WCW attacked and it was a very chaotic night. This led to One Night Only. The card saw John Cena win a 3 brand battle royale. Jimmy Jacobs had won the unification match for the European and TV title match against Matt Striker. A triple branded triple threat tag title match saw the Clique win against both Cade & Murdoch and against the Highlanders. A WWE vs. WCW match saw HHH make Abyss submit and this was after Jericho turned on the Rock. The trio of HHH, Taker and Y2J beatdown Eric Bischoff in the cage. The last match on the card was, for the first time ever and for the last time ever, the RAW World Champ taking on the WCW Champ and the Smackdown Champ. The stipulation was that the winner would win the title of the loser. So almost everyone believed Jericho was taking the fall. And to no one's surprise, he did. In a great match, Samoa Joe nailed the Muscle Buster on Y2J before Jeff Hardy could break up the fall. The show ended with the three faces celebrating. -The start of August saw the official retirements of Sting, Scott Steiner, Sid Vicious and Barry Windham. For the WWE, it saw them finally trimming alot of the excess in the roster. It saw the start of the WWE career of "Showtime" Eric Youn, managed by Steve "Sting" Borden. The Clique vacated the titles after a "kayfabe" backstage brawl they got into. This all led up to WWE Summerslam where the show was balanced on three "main events". First there was the rubber match between Stevie Richards and Shawn Micheals, with a win that shockingly went to Richards. Jeff Hardy retained his title against Tommy Dreamer, Ken Kennedy, Triple H, Kane and the Undertaker within the Elimination Chamber. The main event was the first time Samoa Joe and CM Punk squared off in a WWE ring. It saw a great match that Joe finally lose his first match as a WWE wrestler [32-0 up to that point] when Punk trapped him in the Anaconda Vice. -The WWE failed miserably with the WCW experiment but they seemed to have some momentum going into the last part of the year.
