What Goes Into A Good Match?

Recommended Posts

I'll admit I'm pretty new to the game, but I'm wondering what goes into making a consistently great match? I've received a few B+ ratings but mostly in 4v4 and 3v3 eliminations matches that tend to go on a long time. Does overness play a factor in the maximum rating your match can get?

I haven't read the help file in a long time but if I remember correctly, its all explained there. As far as I know, and remember, what makes a high rating is the following: 1. WOW factor of the moves 2. Ouch factor of the moves 3. # of pin attempted Now there might be more to this list, and I'm not too sure about the 3rd one either. But as an example, I use the Apron DDT once in all of my single matches. This usually moves a rating up one or two points. My single matches are 20 minutes long with most being C+ and B-. If I cared more, I could easily have 30 minute matches with more Bs and B+s ratings. But for me, the longer the match, the more boring it becomes. Just study the WOW factor and Ouch factor ratings of each move you use, or dont use, and make your set with higher WOW/Ouch.

While Goldberg is right, I feel that studying move ratings turns an imaginative game into one of number crunching. Not to slag away on those that do, as I respect however you want to play it - but the second I start looking at numbers, the game starts to lose its charm. Anyway, to quote the Help file:
Match ratings increase as the match gets more exciting. Moves with high Ouch or Wow factors increase the excitement, as does blood, table breaking, near falls, counter moves, finishers, etc. Similarly, a match which features very little but low level moves will be boring and get a low rating.
I was scanning over the help file and wanted to see if there was more to it. Is the time a huge factor? Because a lot of times in singles matches I get to the 15-17 minute mark and I'm in serious jeopardy of blowing the match if I don't take it home. I agree with the sentiment going too deeply into all the numbers can hurt the enjoyment of the game (at least for me) so I'm trying to see if other things beyond what's in the help file corrolate. As well, it's kind of frustrating I pull out all this interesting offense in an attempt to get a solid rating and my opponent pulls up Punch, Choke, Knee Bar, Clothesline and DDT over and over again.

it is frustrating, the only thing I don't like about the game is that I can't just squash someone for a win because it would be a poor match and (I think) hurt my chances of getting booked later. it's a problem related to a game that is attempting to be both a single-player challenge (beat the computer) and a booking/industry simulation (put on entertaining matches). that combination, of course, is also what makes the game so intriguing!

It's a lot easier to get a high matching with a custom move set than it is to use one of the existing movesets in exhibition mode. It's also really easy to escape the cage. Whenever someone makes an attempt they almost always go up and over but pins you're more likely to kick out. Tatsuko straight kick is a good move!
