WCW: The Shane McMahon Era

The rumors have been running ramped about Vince McMahon having a deal done to purchase WCW from Ted Turner and it appears that that announcement is about to come as Ted Turner approaches the ring. Ted thanks the fans that have supported the WCW over the years and hope they understand that this was a decision that needed to be made and he wishes that he could have kept WCW but that is just not an option at this point in time. Ted then invites the new owner of WCW to the ring..... To the surprise of everyone in the crowd and watching on TV Shane McMahon comes out and makes his way toward the ring. He enters the ring and shakes the hand of a smiling Ted Turner who hands the mic over to Shane and waves to the fans as he leaves the ring. Shane proceeds to explain the situation.... “At this time I would like the entire WCW staff and roster to come out to ringside as I have an important announcement to make." The crowd waits in anticipation as the locker room makes it way out to ringside. "Rumors have been floating around for the last few weeks that the WWF and Vince McMahon had a done deal to purchase WCW from Ted Turner. I’m sure seeing me standing here in a WCW ring all but validated those rumors to everyone watching. But let me be the first to tell the WCW fans, staff and roster that the WWF did not purchase WCW, Vince McMahon did not purchase WCW, I purchased WCW. Let me also be very clear that this is not a work or part of a WWF angle, this is real. You see my dad has held me back for many years from taking the reigns of the WWF and moving forward with my vision of what the company to be to keep his ego alive and keep himself in the spotlight no matter who he hurt including his own family. I sat back long enough and dad with the things you have done over the last few months to tear our family apart I decided that enough is enough and I was going to go out and make some moves on my own outside of the WWF.” “I spoke with many people in the business with deep pockets that would do anything to keep WCW out of the WWF hands and prevent my dad from getting a monopoly of the wrestling business. I was able to get a group of investors together and made an 11th hour offer to Ted Turner that met his financial terms and on a personal note allowed him to stick it to my father one last time and we signed on the dotted line last night.” “Let me wrap this up with a personal message for my father. Our relationship is dead but The WCW is alive and well and you can find us right here on TNT on Monday Nights kicking your ass in the ratings every week. Every man in this room has been in this business a long time and has experience working for promotions all over the world. This is my booking team and we are going to get this ship back on track. Lets start by breaking down the roster and see who fits in the future of WCW. Dusty, why dont you give me your opinion of our current main event level workers" DUSTY: "Well Shane I will be honest it is a older group with not much left in the tank. I would say that The Stinger, Goldberg, Booker T and Steiner are what we need to build around in the immediate future but the cubbard is pretty bare after that due to the disarray and bad booking in recent months" SHANE: "Our focus moving forward is going to be to work to differentiate ourselves from the WWF and that means I want to start to shift the focus to the in ring action and my other major focus is to start building WCW's stars of the future. Arn what do we have for young up and coming talent?" ARN: "Our best young workers on the current roster are Rey Mysterio, Sean O'Haire, Billy Kidman, Chuck Palumbo, Johnny The Bull, Mark Jindrak, Shane Helms. We have some pretty good young talent to work with" TERRY: "I also like AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels. Shane, as someone who has been here and in the locker for a while I feel strongly that we need to remove some of the politicans from the roster if we are going to try and push on with some of our young talent" [I]Bischoff who oddly enough has not been asked his opinion by Shane clearly looks angered by Taylor's comments as the workers Taylor wants gone are his biggest supporters.[/I] SHANE: "I agree and I will take care of that. We are in pretty good shape with our young talent ready to make a move up the card to the main event level and we need to work on pushing them. I also want each of you to use your contacts on the indy scene and lets get some more young talent for our roster and development territory."

Daniels scored what I would consider a big upset to move onto the semi finals of the cruiserweight tournament hitting The Last Rites to pick up the win. Sting and Goldberg start off the match by working over Steiner eventually dumping him to the outside with a double clothsline.Sting and Goldberg then square off and are face to face about to go at when Steiner comes back in and nails Sting from behind with a belly to back suplex into the turnbuckle. Goldberg and Steiner go head to head for a while before Sting gets back in it and all three battle to the outside. HERE COMES ROB VAN DAM!!! He goes toe to toe with Steiner and the ref calls for the bell. Before WCW could finalize a deal New Japan came in with offers for both Kobashi and Ono and they agreed citing a desire to stay in Japan. Joey Styles has agreed to a two year deal with WCW. No word yet on whether he will call Nitro or Thunder. WWF RAW did a 29.30 rating this week and WCW Monday Nitro did a 14.43 showing that Shane McMahon has a lot of work to do to catch the WWF.[/QUOTE]

Finally they square up in the center of the ring and Sanders immediatley goes down and hits Knoble with a low blow then rolls him up and grabs a handful of tights to get the cheap win. He doesnt give a damn who wins that match because he is going into The Big Bang as the WCW World Champion and he is walking out as WCW World Heavyweight Champion. It seemed as if Van Dam may have been ready to put Steiner away but before he could Steiner snapped and hit RVD with a brutal low blow. With Van Dam down he blasted RVD with two chairshots getting himself DQ'd.
