Dan Theman
My company has recently blocked my viewing of one of my favorite forums (OOTP Developments). Does anybody know of any way to get around the blocker?
Guest IrishHand
Buddy up to the computer guy. He's likely a sorry fellow anyway, so the slightest ray of human contact and compassion should give you hardcore porn access if you want it. :)
Danny
Maybe not what you want to hear, but if your boss blocked the ootp forums, it was probably for a reason. I would do one of two things. 1. Just stop going there 2. Be upfront with your boss (obviously depending greatly upon your relationship with him/her). I cant see how trying to find some program or setting to continue going there behind your boss' back could be good for your career :).
Dan Theman
LOL - yeah, I hear you guys. Technically speaking, my job doesn't allow any "enjoyment-based" usage of the internet. Technically speaking, mind you. Which is why I can access practically every sports-based website known to man (espn.com, nfl.com, mlb.com, various gambling sites, etc., etc.). I'm sure these all have a lot to do with auto insurance ;) (my company, while I'm not allowed to identify it, is one of the major insurance prividers in the nation). Heck, I can even access various sites denoting ... um ... "sundry technology-based activities." Anyways, my immediate boss is fine with it as long as I do my work, which I've always done. It's the "evil webmaster" (j/k) who apparently makes the list of prohibited sites. I live with the rulings, but this is one that I wish could somehow be overturned in my favor. It's just kind of hard to make the argument, lol. Still, thanks for the tips, guys. - Dan
Powerguy
Use his computer while he's out at lunch. Chances are it's blocked there too but it's worth a try :p
Guest [Icy]
Option 1: Use www.guardster.com, you can surf to any web page and nobody will notice it in your office as the urls you visit will be encrypted, also you will avoid any proxy banned pages restriction. The only problem is that at the end they could also ban guardster.com as they will see it's an anonymous proxy that can be used to avoid their restrictions but at least you will be able to enjoy any forum until they find it if they ever do. It all will depend on how smart is the network admin or how he wants to block you. Option 2: Just work as you're supossed to do and you will avoid future problems, but i guess you will like more Option 1 :)
Dan Theman
ALMOST my hero - great idea, but my admin has apparently come up against that one before. *sigh* Thanks for the idea, however. I guess I'll have to work ;)

Dan Theman
Hmm. As it turns out, I do have the option to petition if I feel I need to access the site for legitimate business purposes. Any ideas on how to phrase that one? Maybe "sanity retention" or something like that? :)
Powerguy
What kind of business is it? If you don't want to reveal that info just be general like... phone company or telemarketing.
Dan Theman
Hmm. I think I'm banned from identifying my line of work, but let's just say it's an advisory role - lots of incoming phone calls, computer work.
