dp68
Hey folks, I'm looking for a realistic popularity for a brand new federation. I was thinking it should be "0" everywhere but in their region. But in-region, I was thinking it should be higher - assuming the fed would have done some advertising prior to its first show. Perhaps a better question is, how many people should we expect to realistically show up for a new fed's show? Is 10-15 people (typical 0% popularity attendance) a realistic number? Are there any real world examples people can share, like what ROH did in its first few shows? When I start a new career, I usually start with a brand new fed at 0 popularity, but I'm starting to wonder if that is realistic.
BlueStar
Personally a brand new federation should have zero across the boards. Depends on how realistic you want it to be... Suppose in Western Europe you start a Belgian Fed...that would be 0%.
foolinc
Off handed I've pretty sure that the first ROH show had around 200 people, which would put them in the 20s overness wise. 0% pop isn't really realistic unless you have absolutely no marketing. Realisticly, anywhere from 5% (around 30+ people) to Cult is good range for a new fed depending on the backstory.
BlueStar
I think that reasoning is just taking "the easy route"... no offense. Besides, TEW isn't supposed to be "realistic".
Derek B
Personally, I think popularity of a fed should vary with the amount of advertising and the quality of the stars in the promotion. If you're starting a new promotion with 0 across the board then I'd assume you were building from literally nothing (backyard almost) and moving up. If you start with a little, like maybe 5-10, then I'd assume you'd spent a little money getting your name out there and might even have some local "stars" on the roster. I would say anything above 10 in a region for a new promotion would require a significant investment. 0% everywhere... I'd say that's a tiny promotion with no money to invest in anything. If there is some cash there I'd say you could up the overness a little. At least IMO.
dp68
Thanks guys. I generally start with $25,000 USD in funds. I've thought a lot about it, and if I wanted to start a fed I could raise that much from my non-retirement stocks and savings pretty fast. Of course, my wife would kill me, but we don't need that much realism. I've already built my fed up to 5% pop in the Southeastern US, so I'll probably just keep rolling with it. But in the future I may start around 5%-7%, or maybe 10%. I forget when the next level of attendance hits, and you actually get about 30 rowdy people into your bingo hall. Currently my fed is being led by Al Coleman and Donovan Masters. Valentine has been putting on some decent matches lately too, but he only has 3 months left on his contract and he'll probably want a lot more than I can pay him. I also have a talent trading agreement with DAVE, and have brought down Shawn Gonzales and a couple openers to headline for us.
