UFC: Run By A Rookie

My knowledge of MMA is lacking to put it politely. I watch UFC whenever I can, and anything outside of that is completely unknown to me. But what the hell, I'll see if I can continue UFC's dominance of the World of MMA (see what I did there?), and if I'm lucky, move it on to a new dimension. If I'm not lucky you'll get to see the destruction of an empire, and everyone loves failure. Anyway, let's have a roster. I'm using Tap Or Snap 3, purely because Biggzy makes it and I have to do what he says. LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION Alberto Crane Alvin Robinson BJ Penn - CHAMPION Clay Guida Cole Miller Corey Hill Din Thomas Frank Edgar Gray Maynard Jason Black Jason Reinhardt Jeffrey Cox Jeremy Stephens Joe Lauzon Joe Stevenson John Halverson Jorge Gurgel Justin Buchholz Kenny Florian Kurt Pellegrino Mac Danzig Manny Gamburyan Marcus Aurelio Mark Bocek Matt Grice Matt Wiman Melvin Guillard Michihiro Omigawa Nate Diaz Nate Mohr Per Eklund Rich Clementi Rob Emerson Roger Huerta Sam Stout Samy Schiavo Sean Sherk Spencer Fisher Terry Etim Thiago Taveres Tyson Griffin WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION Akihiro Gono Anthony Johnson Ben Saunders Chris Lytle Chris Wilson Dennis Siver Diego Sanchez Dong Hyun Kim Dustin Hazelett George Sotiropoulos Georges St Pierre Jared Rollins Jeff Joslin Jess Liaudin Jon Fitch Jon Koppenhaver Jonathan Goulet Josh Burkman Josh Koscheck Karo Parisyan Luigi Fioravanti Luke Cummo Marcus Davis Matt Arroyo Matt Hughes Matt Serra - CHAMPION Mike Swick Paul Kelly Paul Taylor Roan Carneiro Roman Mitchyan Ryo Chonan Tamdan McCrory Thiago Alves Tommy Speer Troy Mandaloniz Yoshiyuki Yoshida MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION Alan Belcher Alessio Sakara Anderson Silva - CHAMPION Charles McCarthy Chris Leben Dean Lister Demian Maia Drew McFedries Ed Herman Evan Tanner Ivan Salaverry Jason Day Jason MacDonald Jeremy Horn Joe Doerksen Jorge Rivera Kalib Starnes Kendall Grove Kuniyoshi Hironaka Martin Kampmann Marvin Eastman Michael Bisping Nate Marquardt Nate Quarry Patrick Cote Ricardo Almeida Rich Franklin Rob Yundt Terry Martin Thales Leites Yushin Okami LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION Chuck Liddell Dan Henderson David Heath Eric Schafer Forrest Griffin Goran Reljic Houston Alexander James Irvin James Lee Jason Lambert Kazuhiro Nakamura Keith Jardine Luis Arthur Cane Lyoto Machida Matt Hamill Mauricio Rua Quinton Jackson - CHAMPION Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Rashad Evans Stephan Bonnar Thiago Silva Tim Boetsch Tito Ortiz Tomasz Drwal Wanderlai Silva Wilson Gouveia HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISIONl Andrei Arlovski Antoni Hardonk Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera - CHAMPION Brandon Vera Brock Lesnar Cheick Kongo Eddie Sanchez Fabricio Werdum Frank Mir Gabriel Gonzaga Heath Herring Jake O'Brien Justin McCully Randy Couture Tim Sylvia Now next on our calendar of events is UFC 82. The main event of that was Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson, which is difficult to happen because Henderson is down as a Light Heavyweight. So I'm going to make a new card, using what little knowledge I have. But because I'm nice I'm going to let Silva defend his title against someone else. But you can wait for that, otherwise this meaningless roster post will actually have some information, and seeing as most people will just skip past this, that would be silly. So a UFC press release will be issued soon, and the full card will be revealed. Stay tuned....
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE UNDERCARD MATCHES ANNOUNCED FOR UFC 82: TORMENT New UFC president Chris Dewing proudly announced two things today, firstly that UFC 82 would be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 30th 2008, with the subtitle of "Torment". He then revealed the undercard matches for the show, whilst keeping the matches scheduled to be on the PPV very close to his chest. The undercard matches are as follows: Middleweight Division Alan Belcher (11-3) vs. Chris Leben (17-4) Welterweight Division Dustin Hazelett (10-3) vs. Jon Koppenhaver (5-1) Light Heavyweight Division Jason Lambert (23-7) vs. James Lee (12-3) Lightweight Division Jeremy Stephens (13-2) vs. Rob Emerson (7-6) Nate Mohr (8-5) vs. Sam Stout (13-3-1) Dewing announced that there would be regular updates over the coming weeks for the main card, all those involved in the event have been informed and are currently in training.
IN OTHER NEWS WVR has a new owner, Javier Vasquez has taken it over. Well done to him. DREAM seem to be going after the same standard of talent that I'd be looking at, so they're likely to be my main rival. As they're based in Japan it won't be direct competition, but it harks back to the days of the UFC/PRIDE rivalry. I also realised that naming the events is just as hard as trying to get a nice balance in the card. I've decided the under card as that lovely press release says, and four of the main fight card matches, with just one left. Have some rumoured matches on me: Anderson Silva vs. ??? - UFC Middleweight Title ??? vs. ??? (Jon Fitch?) - Winner to get a shot at UFC Welterweight Title Andrei Arlovski vs. Brandon Vera
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE ARLVOSKI VS. VERA ANNOUNCED FOR UFC 82: TORMENT The first main card match for UFC 82: Torment has been acnnounced today by new president Chris Dewing. The match will be in the heavyweight division, and will see Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski take on Brandon "The Truth" Vera. vs. Arlovski heads into the fight with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses. Hailing from Minsk in the former Soviet republic of Belarus, and fighting out of Chicago, Illinois, his recent form inside the octagon has been good, with his last outing ending in victory by unanimous decision over Fabricio Werdum at UFC 70. A former UFC Heavyweight champion, Arlovski has had a series of matches with another top Heavyweight contender Tim Sylvia, with Sylvia currently 2-1 up. A win for Arlvoski would propel him back into contendership for the UFC Heavyweight Title. Vera has a professional MMA record of 8 wins and 1 loss. Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia and fighting out of San Diego, California, Vera is coming off a loss to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77. This defeat was his first inside the octagon, with one of his four victories coming against former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC 65. A win for Vera over such an established opponent as Andrei Arlovski would put him in a significantly strong position for a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title. Dewing implied that this match would be the semi-main event of the evening, with four more matches for the main card still to be announced. As well as the announcement of this match, Dewing also informed the press that the UFC had come to terms with the signing of exciting Japanese lightweight Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki. Dewing stated that the former PRIDE fighter would be considered among the best of the current crop of UFC Lightweights, and would help the UFC gain mainstream attention in Japan. According to Dewing, Aoki has set his sights on claiming the UFC Lightweight title, and Dewing has confirmed that if Aoki were to earn a shot at BJ Penn's title, the match taking place at an event in Japan would not be out of the question.
IN OTHER NEWS, Don "The Predator" Frye has signed for StrikeForce, and DREAM have been taking the big sponsors that I can't get thanks to the crappy ones I already have.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE HENDERSON TAKES ON GOUVEIA AT UFC 82: TORMENT The second main card match for UFC 82: Torment has been acnnounced today by new president Chris Dewing. A Light Heavyweight division fight has been scheduled, with seasoned performer Dan Henderson taking on Wilson Gouveia vs. Henderson is considered one of the best MMA fighters of his generation, and has a professional record of 22 wins with 6 losses. A veteran of the defunct PRIDE organisation, Henderson was the only man to hold two consecutive titles in two different weight classes, the Middleweight and Welterweight Titles. Henderson has chosen the Light Heavyweight division in the UFC, the same weight class as the PRIDE Middleweight division. Henderson return to the UFC after a 9 year stint in Japan did not meet with success, he lost to UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson by unanimous decision. Henderson will be hoping that this match could send him back to the top of the division, but at 37, time is running out for a title opportunity. Wilson Gouveia fights out of Coconut Creek, Florida, but originally hails from Fortaleza, Brazil. A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gouveia comes into this contest with a professional record of 10 wins and 4 losses. His UFC career thus far has been impressive, despite a debut defeat to Keith Jardine, he has amassed four consecutive victories inside the octagon, the biggest being a KO victory over Jason Lambert just two months ago at UFC 80. Gouveia is also a submission specialist, half of his career victories have come by submission. There is no doubt that Henderson will be Gouveia's toughest challenge to date, but a win here would cause a huge impact for Gouveia's MMA career. There are still three main card matches to be announced for UFC 82, which is due to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday 30th March. Tickets are still available. As with the last press conference to announce a match, Dewing also took time to welcome a new addition to the UFC roster. This time it's the announcement that Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort will be returning to the octagon. Belfort, who holds a 16-8 record, has not fought in the UFC since a controversial defeat to Tito Ortiz at UFC 51. A former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Belfort is also remembered for two hard fought contests against Randy Couture. Belfort's return to the UFC will not please Cage Rage fans, where Belfort is currently the Light Heavyweight champion. Belfort will forfeit the belt before officially re-joining the UFC in April.
IN OTHER NEWS, and there's quite a bit, Strikeforce have been opening up their chequebook to get hold of Mark Hunt, probably all of Microsoft's money being used. How the hell can they get Microsoft sponsoring them when I have Mickey's Malt Liquor? And my associated company WEC seem to be doing alright as they have got their own TV show, entitled WEC War Zone. It also looks like they're trying to poach Eric Schafer from me, but seeing as I don't know who he is, I'm not that bothered and I might just let him go. DREAM have signed Tony DeSouza, whilst WVR have signed James Thompson. Ok, so there's a lot of news, just not particularly interesting news.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE THIRD LIGHTWEIGHT MATCH ANNNOUNCED FOR UFC 82 Alongside two matches on the undercard, new UFC president Chris Dewing has put forward a more high profile Lightweight division match for the main card. The match will see an exciting contest, as Frank "The Answer" Edgar takes on "J-Lau" Joe Lauzon. vs. Edgar comes into the contest undefeated in his 2 year MMA career, with 8 wins on his record thus far. Edgar has three of those wins within the confines of the octagon, beating tough Lightweight contenders Tyson Griffin at UFC 67 and Spencer Fisher at UFC 78. Fighting out of Toms River, New Jersey, Edgar was highly ranked wrestler in college, and is assistant wrestling coach at Rutgers University. If Edgar wins this match against Lauzon, it could well be the stepping stone Edgar needs to get a shot at BJ Penn's Lightweight title. At just 23, Joe Lauzon has already achieveed significant success in the MMA world. He hold His UFC debut shocked the world as he defeated Jens "Little Evil" Pulver by TKO in just 48 seconds. Lauzon then entered the Ultimate Fighter 5 tournament, and on BJ Penn's team, he advanced to the semi-finals, only to lose to Manny Gamburyan. Since then, Lauzon has defeated Jason Reinhardt to cement his place in the UFC Lightweight division. Lauzon will no doubt be hoping that a win at UFC 82 could help him earn a shot against his Ultimate Fighter coach BJ Penn in the future. There are still two main card matches to be announced for UFC 82, which is due to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday 30th March. Tickets are still available. Chris Dewing also used the press conference to announce that the next edition of Ultimate Fight Night would be broadcast on Thursday 10th April. The show is due to be held in Denver, Colorado, and matches are to be announced after the conclusion of UFC 82. He also said that before the main event of UFC 82, he would celebrate his first UFC PPV with a "cataclysmic" announcement. Rumours have already began to swell as to just what this announcement could be.
IN OTHER NEWS, WVR have signed Wayne Cole, and Strikeforce have managed to get their own TV show called Strikeforce War. But no company has actually scheduled any shows yet, so I can't report on any matches. I've re-signed Drew McFedries and Matt Hamill to longer contracts... because I wanted to really.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE KARO PARISYAN TO FIGHT JON FITCH AT UFC 82 New UFC president Chris Dewing continues to stack his first PPV with big matches, as today it was announced that a huge welterweight division contest has been scheduled for UFC 82 - Torment. The match will see Jon "Two Face" Fitch take on Karo "The Heat" Parisyan, in a match that Dewing has stated will have "huge implications" in the UFC Welterweight title picture. vs. Parisyan hails from Yerevan in the European country of Armenia, but has been living in California for most of his life. With a professional record of 18 wins and 4 losses, Parisyan has beaten some of the best fighters the welterweight division has to offer. Amongst his victims inside the octagon includes Matt Serra, Nick Diaz, and most recently Ryo Chonan when Parisyan won by unanimous decision at UFC 78. Parisyan is currently on a three match winning streak, and a victory over Fitch in this match would give Parisyan a shot at finally winning the UFC Welterweight Title, five years after his UFC arrival. Jon Fitch burst on to the UFC scene with a victory over Brock Larson at Ultimate Fight Night 2, and since then he has been unstoppable inside the octagon. Fighting out of San Jose, California with a professional record of 16 wins and 2 losses, Fitch has won 7 out of 7 in the UFC, and is one win away from tieing the record for consecutive victories in the UFC with the legendary Royce Gracie. Fitch's victims have included Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez, who he defeated by split decision at UFC 76. If Fitch were to beat Parisyan, it would be hard to deny him a shot at the UFC Welterweight title. Dewing has stated that there is one more match to be announced for the event, the main event itself, and it is heavily rumoured that it will involve Anderson Silva defending his UFC Middleweight Title. Chris Dewing also used the press conference to briefly announce two signings, one being the re-signing of Gleison Tibau, and one being the news that the UFC had come to terms with the IFL to use Ben Rothwell for some UFC matches. Rothwell has been a stand-out performer in the Heavyweight division, and this pact may go some way to fixing the strenous relationship between the UFC and the IFL.
IN OTHER NEWS, DREAM signed Ben Rothwell as well, meaning he's now working for three companies. Honestly, I must be some kind of trendsetter. Other big signings include Alistair Overeem now fighting with the IFL, Hayato Sakurai will be fighting with Strikeforce, and for some reason Strikeforce decided to pick up Tank Abbott and Butterbean as well. Maurice Smith has signed for both the IFL and DREAM, despite being forty-frickin'-six. We've also had some other cards announced as well! It's about time...
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE MAIN EVENT FOR UFC 82 FINALLY ANNOUNCED After a couple of weeks of expectation and more press conferences than you could possibly imagine, UFC president Chris Dewing has finally announced the match that will main event UFC 82: Torment, and it will be the expected UFC Middleweight Title defence, Anderson "The Spider" Silva looks to retain his title against one of the toughest in the UFC: "The Count" Michael Bisping. vs. Anderson Silva, with a professional record of 19 wins with 4 losses, is one of the most feared strikers pound-for-pound in mixed martial arts today, as he demonstrated with his vicious knock out victory over Chris Leben in his very first UFC contest. Win followed win for Silva, eventually culminating in a victory over Rich Franklin at UFC 77 to win the UFC Middleweight Title, the second time Franklin had fallen at the hands of Silva. This match will be Silva's first title defence, five months after winning the belt. Mainly versed in Muay Thai, Silva has a well-rounded set of skills to hand, and is not afraid to go the ground to get his victories. Hailing from the town of Widnes in the heart of the north of England, Michael Bisping broke into the UFC scene by winning the third season of The Ultimate Fighter. Then a light heavyweight, Bisping started his UFC career with three wins, including handing Matt Hamill his only defeat thus far. A hard fought match, and his first defeat to Rashad Evans at UFC 78 proved to be Bisping's last match at 205lbs, dropping down to 185lbs for this contest and shot at the UFC Middleweight title. Although some will say he has done nothing to prove himself at the middleweight stage, Bisping could count himself lucky that a lack of viable challengers has presented him with this opportunity for glory and gold. The card is now fully complete, and we are just 6 days away from the first UFC PPV event under the new regime of Chris Dewing. -------------------------------------------- UFC 82: Torment Final Card UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Anderson "The Spider" Silva © (19-4) vs. "The Count" Michael Bisping (14-1) Heavyweight Division "The Pitbull" Andrei Arlovski (12-5) vs. Brandon "The Truth" Vera (8-1) Welterweight Division Karo "The Heat" Parisyan (18-4) vs. Jon "Two Face" Fitch (15-2) Light Heavyweight Division Dan "Hollywood" Henderson (22-6) vs. Wilson Gouveia (10-4) Lightweight Division "The Answer" Frank Edgar (8-0) vs. Joe "J-Lau" Lauzon (16-3) -------------------------------------------- Preliminary Card Middleweight Division Alan "The Talent" Belcher (11-3) vs. "The Crippler" Chris Leben (17-4) Lightweight Division "Lil' Heathen" Jeremy Stephens (13-2) vs. "The Saint" Rob Emerson (7-6) Welterweight Division Dustin Hazelett (10-3) vs. Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver (5-1) Lightweight Division Nate Mohr (8-5) vs. "Hands of Stone" Sam Stout (13-3-1) Light Heavyweight Division "The Punisher" Jason Lambert (23-7) vs. James Lee (12-3) -------------------------------------------- It wouldn't be a Chris Dewing press conference without sone kind of sub-announcement, and this one was quite a biggie, as he announced that Murilo "Ninja" Rua has joined the UFC on a 9 fight deal. The former EliteXC Middleweight champion will be moving to the UFC Middleweight division at the end of the next month. He joins his younger brother Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the UFC, the two brothers recently opened their own training camp "Universidade da Luta" to train fighters in South America.
--------------------------- UFC 82 - TORMENT Live from Nevada, Las Vegas on Saturday 30th March (Match reports for the prelim card will be shorter than the main card, with round summaries as opposed to play by play. Just to assure everyone, all these will be hand-written and not taken from the game.) Preliminary Card Match #1 Light Heavyweight Division "THE PUNISHER" JASON LAMBERT vs. JAMES LEE Round One Lee's movement causes problems for the striker Lambert, quick punches to the head and darting away seem to be the way Lee is going. Lambert's kicks are missing, and Lee is able to counter punch or kick every time that happens. First round to Lee 10-9, but not a whole lot of action. Round Two Lee slows his movement down a bit to kick away at Lambert's legs, and it's the accuracy of Lee's kicks compared to Lambert that's making the difference at the moment. Really slow round, nothing of interest after Lambert fails in a takedown attempt, round again goes to Lee thanks to those early kicks. Round Three Lambert knows he has to go for it, and tries to connect with some punches, but Lee defends them comfortably. Lee gets Lambert down twice in quick succession, and immediately looks for a submission attempt. Lambert is able to defend the submission attempts, but two big elbows from Lee give him a kimura attempt. The round is over shortly afterwards though, but Lee has done more than enough to take the round and the match. Winner: James Lee Result: Unanimous Judge's Decision - 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 Rating: * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Preliminary Card Match #2 Lightweight Division NATE MOHR vs. "HANDS OF STONE" SAM STOUT Round One Stout uses his superior punching skills to connect four times, Mohr attempts to strike back but can't get through. A clinch ends up with some body shots, before Mohr connects with a nice kick. Round over, dull as hell, it's given to Stout for the punches. Round Two Stout's back to the punches again, a left/right combo stuns Mohr, before BANG! A hard right hook connects right on the chin of Mohr! He ain't getting up folks, Stout doesn't even go to follow up as Mohr is laid out on the mat. Great striking from Stout there. Winner: Sam Stout Result: KO - 0:22 in Round 2 Rating: * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Preliminary Card Match #3 Welterweight Division DUSTIN HAZELETT vs. JON "WAR MACHINE" KOPPENHAVER Round One Very nervy start from both men, each testing the ranges of their punches and kicks, before Koppenhaver counters a right hand with a left jab and a kick to the knee. A clinch ends up with Hazelett taking a punch from Koppenhaver, but a nice sweep takes Koppenhaver down to the mat, eventually taking a mount position and Koppenhaver is in trouble. He blocks as many punches as he can but they keep raining down, and a big elbow gets through to the nose. Another big elbow and this is done for, the referee intervenes to get Hazelett away, Koppenhaver was stuck and taking some big shots there. Winner: Dustin Hazelett Result: TKO - 2:14 in Round 1 Rating: ** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Preliminary Card Match #4 Lightweight Division JEREMY STEPHENS vs. ROB EMERSON Round One Not a lot of action until Stephens nails Emerson with a kick to the head. Emerson doesn't go down, but it's a warning shot certainly, as Stephens charges in and connects with a barrage of punches. Emerson clinches and connects with a knee to the tired Stephens. Some jabs from Stephens miss as the round ends, it goes to Stephens for the kick and punch combo. Round Two Stephens fends Emerson off with some leg kicks, and then a waist-high kick as he keeps himself in control. He keeps it up with a great high kick, but he doesn't have the power to knock Emerson down, but it must have hurt Emerson as he backs off. Another round to Stephens purely because of his kicks. Round Three Another kick to the thigh from Stephens sets the tone, before it turns into a stalemate as Emerson looks for a KO opportunity. Emerson goes for a high kick, but Stephens easily avoids it and connects with two body shots and a jab to the nose. Emerson comes back with a right, and that's the lot for the round, not a great spectacle this match, but a clear winner. Winner: Jeremy Stephens Result: Unanimous Decision - 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 Rating: * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Preliminary Card Match #5 Middleweight Division ALAN BELCHER vs. "THE CRIPPLER" CHRIS LEBEN Round One We go through the first minute waiting for something, anything to happen, and the crowd aren't happy. And then it all happens, Leben moves in for a big punch, but stumbles, Belcher connects with a hard body shot to make sure Leben goes down, and quickly mounts him. The rights and lefts rain down on Leben, before Belcher takes a rest. He thinks about a submission, but it's back to the punches pretty soon after. Leben only has one arm free to block, so most of the punches ar getting through. The referee decides enough is enough after another barrage from Belcher, and although Leben can count himself slightly unlucky, Belcher dominated as soon as he got the advantage. Winner: Alan Belcher Result: TKO - 2:14 in Round 1 Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD Match #1 Light Heavyweight Division DAN "HOLLYWOOD" HENDERSON vs. WILSON GOUVEIA Round One Long range jabs and circling is what we see for the start of this fight, Henderson delivers the first major strike with a kick to the shin. Gouveia charges and gets Henderson up against the cage, where Gouveia hits some body punches, but his attempt at some knees is well defended by Henderson. Henderson ducks a right hand and gets out of trouble, and we're back to where we started. A minute to go in the round, Henderson tags Gouveia with a jab to the cheek, but misses a second, allowing Gouveia to go for a big right cross which barely misses Henderson's chin. It would have probably caught any form of facial hair if Henderson had some. And would probably have knocked Henderson out too. More circling and we're done for the round, the judges are likely to give it to Gouveia as he was the slightly more adventerous. Round Two More circling from the two combatants, and the crowd let them know it's not going down well. They trade jabs, but when Goueveia goes for a right hand lead, Henderson grabs him with a double-leg takedown. Closed guard for Henderson, Gouveia blocks a pass guard attampt, and easily blocks any Henderson punches. Gouveia gets a butterfly guard, but Henderson gets out and grabs side control when he has the chance. Gouveia again defends well, Henderson can't get any offence in despite his good poisition. He finally gets some elbows in, but the round is over before that can develop. Round goes to Henderson for the takedown, it's all to play for in the third. Round Three Henderson makes the first move but his punches are blocked, Gouveia fakes a kick, and gets a takedown! But Henderson uses Gouveia's own momentum against him, flips him round and it's Henderson with the guard. He goes for side control, but Gouveia blocks, and goes for an arm. Henderson rains down some hard hammer fists in response, but Gouveia defends well again. Gouveia tries to spin out, but ends up giving Henderson an opportunity at his back! Henderson almost gets him but Gouveia scrambles out of it and gets back into the guard position. It could have been all over then, exiciting stuff. But fatigue seems to be setting in, the referee stands them up after thirty-plus seconds of no action. Gouveia goes for it all, knowing he's behind in the deciding round, but a big right hand and a high kick don't connect, Henderson seeming content with backing off to take it on points. The time expires, and it is Henderson who gets the round and the match. Winner: Dan Henderson Result: Unanimous Decision - 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 Rating: ** Joe Rogan catches up with Dan Henderson straight after the match:
Rogan: Dan, a hard fought contest, really great countering throughout it, but you emerged victorious, how do you think it went? Henderson: Well you know Joe these kind of matches can go either way, Wilson brought a lot of flexibility to the table which was hard to deal with, I almost got the better of him in the third round but he... he was just too flexible, you know, and I couldn't grab him, thankfully I was able to use my experience to just maybe out-think him at the key moments. Rogan: What's in your future, are you gonna remain at 205? Henderson: Um... yeah, that's the plan for now, 185 will always be in the back of my mind, but now I've won this one I think I can build on that and keep going for a bit longer with the bigger boys.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD Match #2 Lightweight Division FRANKIE EDGAR vs. JOE LAUZON Round One The two men trade blows to start with, before Lauzon sees a body shot coming and uses it to take Edgar down, but Edgar ends up more against the cage than the mat, and defends by wrapping his legs around Lauzon's arm. Lauzon's only option to attack is some back fists to the face, but Edgar can block them. The ground battle eventually ends in a stalemate as neither of them have any options with their positioning. They are stood up, but there's nothing else to do before the round ends. Lauzon will take it purely for the takedown. Round Two Both men circle, Edgar being more tentative so as not to get taken down again, They trade blows, but again Edgar over-commits to a punch and Lauzon is straight in with another takedown, this time he needs to do something with it. Some jabs to the head get Lauzon to a guard, and he goes for a neck vice, but Edgar gets his arms in position to defend it. Lauzon goes for the mount, but only gets a half guard. He goes for the arm of Edgar and tries to work in an armbar, but Edgar is again there to block it. Lauzon spends the remainder of the round trying desperately to extend the arm, but with no luck. End of the round, and Lauzon took that comfortably, but he's getting frustrated that he can't put Edgar away. Round Three Very, very slow start to the round, Edgar is worried about another takedown, Lauzon has the match in hand if he doesn't do anything stupid. Lauzon eventually breaks the deadlock by attempting to take Edgar down for the third round in succession, but Edgar stops him, using the cage to remain standing, and goes for a knee to the ribs of Lauzon. Big mistake. Lauzon grabs under the knee of Edgar and slams him down to the mat HARD. Mark Henry would be proud of that. Lauzon gets on top and nails some downaard punches, one of them catching Edgar above the eye, but Lauzon leaves his arm exposed and Edgar ALMOST grabs it for an armbar. If he'd got that it might have been the most undeserved victory of all time. Edgar gets back to his feet with Lauzon stumbling to get out of the armbar, and we see the mark above Edgar's eye is pretty bad. Edgar goes for it all with two swinging fists, Lauzon avoids both and connects with a shot to the body i response, and that's where the match ends. Lauzon has looked really impressive here and is a deserved winner. Winner: Joe Lauzon Result: Unanimous Decision - 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 Rating: ** Joe Rogan with the interview:
Rogan: Joe Lauzon, winner of this match, looking pretty good out there! Lauzon: Thanks Joe... yeah it... it was kinda hard to get hold of him, but.... you know sometimes you gotta just react to what's given to you... he made a few mistakes, got a bit sloppy, and I got him where I wanted him. Rogan: Let's take a look at the Mickey's replay, we've got that awesome slam here. Lauzon: Yeah that's not really my style, but like I said, I reacted to what he gave me, if someone gives me an opportunity like that, I'll take it. Rogan: What's next, Lightweight Title? Lauzon: Yeah, that's always the goal, I dunno what I'm placed for that, there are so many guys around who've been here longer and done more, but I'll get my shot, no doubting that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD Match #3 Welterweight Division KARO "THE HEAT" PARISYAN vs. JON FITCH Round One Parisyan wastes little time coming on the attack with a straight right hand and a leg kick, Fitch replies with a snap jab and a wild left hand that doesn't connect. Parisyan goes for a takedown, Fitch sprawls to defend, and the extra effort Parisyan puts in works against him and Fitch takes him down instead. Parisyan gets into a defensive clinch quickly, and Fitch is struggling to do anything with it. In fact Parisyan is the one going for most of the attacks, he tries a triangle with Fitch leaning over too much, but Fitch gets out, and then even attempts a guillotine, but Fitch is still in a good enough position to deal with it. Parisyan swings wildly, but almost hands the match to Fitch on a platter, just getting his arm out of the way of an armbar before it was too late. After a long time of stalling the referee stands them up. Parisyan attempts a sweeping kick, but Fitch is too quick, and he is able to take Parisyan down again. Again Fitch goes to try and pass guard, and we're back to Parisyan defending well again. The round ends with them on the mat, Fitch has to take it with two takedowns despite Parisyan's best attempts at defence. Round Two Straight into a clitch where Parisyan attempts a knee, but Fitch catches him with one leg off the floor and trips him enough for Parisyan to stumble backwards, and eventually falls to the floor. Fitch is on him quickly, and a big right hand gets through to stun Parisyan. With his defences down, Parisyan can do little about the onslaught of punches from Fitch, who doesn't seem to even get tired of punching constantly. Five or six big shots get through the struggling covering up from Parisyan, and ther referee has seen enough, this one is ALLLLL OVER. Parisyan couldn't cope with the barrage of punches, and the referee had little choice but to stop it. Winner: Jon Fitch Result: TKO - 0:20 in Round 2 Rating: ** Joe Rogan once again with the interview:
Rogan: Jon Fitch, that win means you've won 8 in a row, nobody's done that except the great Royce Gracie, must mean a lot to you. Fitch: Yeah Joe it does, the welterweight scene here is of a real high standard, and I've got better and better recently. Tieing Royce Gracie's record is a big achievement for me, it shows I've got consistency on my side. Rogan: Let's look at the Mickey's replay for the end of this contest... looks like Karo fell backwards there? Fitch: Maybe he did, I'd like to think I took him down though! I thought I dominated the first round, and I was always confident I could finish the job if not in the second, then the third. But as soon as I had him there I knew I was gonna go for it big time, someone like Karo Parisyan can stay in a match longer than most people, so fatigue wasn't an issue I just had to keep punching. Rogan: Reckon you've done enough for a UFC Welterweight Title shot? Fitch: I... yeah, I think so... I know Georges (St Pierre) has the interim belt so he's next to challenge Serra, but I think I've done enough to get the shot after that. I hope so anyway, I want the belt man!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD Match #4 Heavyweight Division ANDREI "THE PITBULL" ARLOVSKI vs. BRANDON VERA Round One Arlovski gets things going straight away with some stinging punches, and a leg kick that causes Vera to react painfully. Although Vera has defended these, he's on the back foot, but is able to duck a right hand and connect with a jab of his own. Arlovski takes it in stride and connects with a left hand to the side of the head and a kick to the ribs, Arlovski is looking really good here. Vera drives Arlovski back into the cage, and they're clinched with attempted knees being blocked by both sides. Arlovski nails some elbows to the ribs to break the clinch, but things get scrappy very quickly, punches connect to the shoulder rather than the head. Vera tries a hard left hand in a last ditch attempt to grab the round, but Arlovski defends, and that's the round done. Arlovski's impressive start will get him that round. Round Two Circling and tentative jabs to start with, before Vera gets a series of body shots in, but misses the final piece of the combo, a big right hand to the head. Very little action here, even when punches are being thrown they're either missing or connecting with the gloves. Vera is being the more aggressive, but the only right hand that connects grazes Arlovski and they end up in a clinch. A very dull round that will go to Vera purely on the fact he threw more punches. Round Three This is more like it, Arlovski starts with a solid left hand and follows it with a good right, and that's enough to get Vera to change his gameplan slightly. Arlovski sees Vera backing off and goes on the charge, and a big right hand connects! Vera took that right on the chin and he's down on the mat instantly! Arlovski considers going in but the referee stops him before he throws another punch, Vera is out like a light! That was an incredible punch, any man on the end of that one won't get up for any more. Arlovski takes the victory and in dramatic, conclusive fashion. Winner: Andrei Arlovski Result: KO - 0:29 in Round 3 Rating: *** Joe Rogan attempts an interview...
Rogan: Andrei... Andrei, great match, how did you feel it went? Arlovski: This match is done. This match done, I want Heavyweight Title, give me Nogueira! Rogan: Well that's easy enough to understand, let's take a look at... Arlovski: No more questions, I want the title, I speak to you when I've got my title!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ANNOUNCEMENT As promised in a pre-event press conference, Chris Dewing marks his first show with some of the biggest news to hit the UFC: "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for your continued support of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As a UFC fan, and now somehow president of the UFC, it gives me great pleasure to be in the octagon tonight speaking to you. I don't want to take up much of your time, we have a great main event ready to go and I don't wanna get on the bad side of either Anderson Silva or Michael Bisping by delaying it, but the announcement I am about to make is some huge, huge news. When I took control of the UFC four weeks ago I had one thing in mind, and I was determined to make it happen. After weeks of negotiation I have finally done what my predocessor Dana White was unable to do. Without further ado, I just have three words for you to sum it all up: Here. Comes. FEDOR!" Fedor Emelianenko comes out to the octagon and joins Dewing in the cage, shaking hands with the UFC president in a visual that very few people can believe they are seeing. Fedor doesn't speak at this time, instead soaking in the applause. Dewing announces that Fedor has signed a 12 fight contract with the UFC, and will make his debut within the next three months. No information on the opponent is given, but Randy Couture surely has to be top of the list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD MAIN EVENT UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE MATCH ANDERSON "THE SPIDER" SILVA vs. MICHAEL "THE COUNT" BISPING Round One Our first of five rounds starts with Silva on the attack with a big right hook, Bisping caught napping, and we nearly have a knock out straight away. Bisping will think himself lucky that didn't connect any harder. Bisping gets in some body shots in return, but even halfway through the round that early punch is visibly affecting Bisping. Silva goes for another, and again it connects, a man with a weaker chin than Bisping and this one would be done by now. Time ticks by in the opening round, Bisping seems very determined to just see it through and re-group for the next one. Silva takes the first round comfortably. Round Two The round starts with some circling, then some jabs which Silva takes the advantage from, and lands another crisp strike to the face of Bisping. Silva's punching is really keeping the match under control. Silva connects with some more punches, all of them quick and clean, perfect technique and great speed, Bisping has just no response, and he's a good puncher in his ow right. The pace and the tempo of this fight is all down to Silva, Bisping can't get any foothold. Another round to Silva, Bisping has to find some way of turning this around. Round Three Bisping comes out the traps with more impetous this round, a right and a left each connect, and Silva doesn't look pleased. Bisping ducks a right, and connects with a couple more jabs, but Bisping then looks for a looping left, and when it misses Silva is right there with a punch to the jaw, and Bisping is down! Silva dives in, but Bisping rolls out of harms way and gets back up quickly, maybe the punch didn't connect as much as it could have. Silva's confidence is back, he connects with a combination of left and rights, and then a big kick to the calf which Bisping definitely felt. A good round for the fans, Silva will get it again thanks to that knockdown. Round Four Probably the dullest round so far, Bisping seems content saving his energy for the final round, and Silva is three rounds to the good already. Some body shots are exchanged, before Silva finally gets a combination in, Bisping clinches to avoid further damage. Bisping finally makes an attacking effort with a kick to the ribs, but the round is over before anything else can happen. Dull stuff, but this final round should be good, Silva takes the fourth due to his combos. Round Five Silva isn't looking to block his way to victory, he comes out with some leg kicks that allow him to connect with a straight left hand and then an uppercut. Bisping gets a right hand in but Silva avoids it, and kicks Bisping hard in the thigh. Bisping really isn't making the impact he needs to if he's going to get the title, a knock out is the only way but I think he's running out of ideas. Silva is now happy to keep Bisping at bay and let the clock run down, Bisping doesn't even start swinging for the fences. The round is over, as is the fight, and Silva has it sewn up, he won every round and dominated Michael Bisping literally from start to finish. Really impressive stuff from the Brazilian. Winner: Anderson Silva Result: Unanimous Decision - 50-45, 50-45, 50-45 Rating: **** Joe Rogan goes for an interview with Silva, with the help of his translator.
Rogan: Anderson Silva, your first title defence ends in victory, how do you feel the fight went? Translator: He had his plan, he wanted to punch, he wanted to keep it standing up, he did that, it all went to his plan. Bisping is a hard puncher, but he thinks he's just harder. Rogan: You are indeed, let's take a look at the Mickey's replay, the opening of this fight was pretty impressive, did you feel threatened at any point during this contest? Translator: Yes, he was always concerned about a takedown or a big punch, but he kept his concentration and he kept doing what he wanted to do, and he won again. Rogan: What's next for Anderson Silva? Translator: Que é seguinte para o Anderson Silva? Silva: Eu não sei, lá não pareço ser muitos desafiadores dignos para minha correia, mim lutarei qualquer um mas eu não penso que este título me estará deixando por muito tempo. Translator: He doesn't know, there does not appear to be many worthy challengers for his belt, he will fight anybody but he doesn't think this title will be leaving him for a long time. Rogan: Thank you very much, your winner of tonight's main event, Anderson Silva!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fight of the Night: Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping KO of the Night: Andrei Arlovski Submission Of The Night: N/A Attendance: 19,842 Takings: $6,032,000 The crowd were not happy with the event, and as a result the promotion lost popularity in 50 reasons, but gained popularity in 8.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE CARD FOR ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT REVEALED UFC president Chris Dewing today announced the card for the upcoming Ultimate Fight Night on Spike TV, due to take place in Denver, Colorado on April 10th. The show will be main evented by the return of Yves Edwards to the octagon, as he takes on Roger "El Matador" Huerta. The full card is as follows: vs. HOUSTON ALEXANDER vs. GOREAN RELJIC Light Heavyweight Division Houston Alexander, who holds a record of 8 wins with 2 losses, made a big name for himself in his UFC debut at UFC 71 by knocking out Keith Jardine within the first minute of the match. Since then he has been trying to establish himself in the Light Heavyweight division, defeating Alessio Sakara at UFC 75 with another knock out, before falling victim to Thiago Silva at UFC 78. A hard-hitter, Alexander is mainly versed in kick boxing, and certainly prefers to keep the fight standing up in order to utilise his hard hands and feet. At 36, Alexander will need to impress quickly if he is to make a true mark on the UFC. Goran Reljic flies in to make his UFC debut from Zadar, Croatia. He currently holds an undefeated professional MMA record with 7 wins to his name. He comes to the UFC after drawing attention to himself at Cage Rage - The Real Deal with an armbar submission victory over Tomek Smykowski. The Croat will be hoping to make a big impression on his big stage debut, a victory over Alexander will no doubt make this one-time shot a more permanent deal in the biggest MMA organisation in the world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. JAKE O'BRIEN vs. EDDIE SANCHEZ Heavyweight Division Jake O'Brien, fighting out of Indianapolis, Indiana, holds a undefeated professional record with 10 wins. He made his UFC debut in August 2006 with a victory over Krisof Midoux, and he followed that up with a decision victory over Josh Shockman at UFC 65. However, O'Brien's biggest victory would come over Heath Herring at Ultimate Fight Night 8, again by decision. One of O'Brien's major strengths is his punching, evident by his first 8 career victories coming by KO or by TKO. If O'Brien is able to maintain his unblemished record here, he will be looking to take on one of the big names in his next bout. Eddie Sanchez holds a professional record of 8 wins with 1 loss, that loss coming at UFC 67 to the debuting Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. Sanchez has been victorious three times inside the octagon, with victories over Mario Neto, Colin Robinson, and most recently at UFC 79 Soa Palelei. An impressive physical specimen, Sanchez has won all 8 of his matches by either KO or TKO, and will be looking to inflict the first defeat on Jake O'Brien in a similar fashion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. MARCUS AURELIO vs. JOHN HALVERSON Lightweight Division . Marcus Aurelio comes into this match with a professional record of 15 wins with 5 losses. A veteran of the PRIDE organisation where Aurelio was able to gain a victory over notable Lightweight Taknori Gomi, Aurelio came to the UFC in August 2007 to fight Clay Guida at UFC 74. Although he was on the losing end on that occasion, he was able to defeat Luke Caudillo at UFC 78. He now looks to establish himself in the UFC with his impressive submission skills. John Halverson hails from Waukee, Iowa and has a professional record of 16 wins with 5 losses. Only one of his 21 fights has taken place inside the octagon, a defeat to Roger Huerta at UFC 67. This will be Halverson's first fight for 13 months, and it will be interesting to see whether all that time without action has affected him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. "THE SILENT ASSASSIN" LUKE CUMMO vs. BEN SAUNDERS Welterweight Division Luke Cummo comes in to this fight with a record of 6 wins and 4 losses. Best known for his performance during The Ultimate Fighter 2, where he finished as runner-up to Joe Stevenson, Cummo is a quiet, introverted personality who uses a combination of Muay Thai kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His UFC career post-Ultimate Fighter has been mixed, he defeated Jason Von Flue at Ultimate Fight Night 4, but lost out to Jonathan Goulet at Ultimate Fight Night 5. He is currently on the back of two consecutive victories over Josh Haynes and Edilberto de Oliveira, and he will be looking for a third in a row against Saunders. Ben Saunders is another Ultimate Fighter alumni, he competed on Matt Serra's team in Ultimate Fighter 6. His only official match in the UFC thus far was a victory over Dan Barrera at the Finale event of the same series. He currently holds a record of 5 wins, 0 losses and 2 draws, and is a practicioner if Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee's chosen method of martial arts. Saunders will be hoping to use this opportunity to launch himself into the UFC's mainstream fighter pool. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. EVAN TANNER vs. IVAN SALAVARRY Middleweight Division Fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada and at 37 years of age, Evan Tanner returns to the octagon after an absence of nearly two years. One of the most popular fighters in UFC history, and a former UFC Middleweight champion, Tanner has beaten some of the best fighters in his weight class, including Phil Baroni, Robbie Lawler and David Terrell. Currently holding a professional record of 32 wins with 6 losses, Tanner will be first to admit that demons have affected his in-ring skill over the last few years, but a revitalised Tanner will be a match for any opponent. Also 37 years old, Ivan Salaverry doesn't have the same kind of big match experience that his opponent does, with 12 wins and 5 losses on his record. His current UFC record stands 3 wins, 3 losses, with wins over Andrei Semenov and Joe Riggs amongst those fights. Originally from Toronto, Canada, his most recent fight ended in defeat to Terry Martin at UFC 71. A member of Team Punishment, Salaverry will be looking to de-rail Tanner's big return, and put himself back on the map in the UFC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. "EL MATADOR" ROGER HUERTA vs. YVES EDWARDS Lightweight Division Roger Huerta has been one of the most impressive young fighters in the UFC over recent years, racking up six consecutive victories inside the octagon. The most recent of these came against Clay Guida at the finale of Ultimate Fighter 6, a match where Guida dominated for most of the contest, only to fall victim to a rear naked choke. Huerta has defeated fighters such as Alberto Crane, Doug Evans and John Halverson by TKO during his time in the UFC, and his career record thus far stands at 20-1-1, with the one defeat coming by way of medical stoppage due to a dislocated jaw. Huerta could well be one of the top lightweights of the future, and this match will be one of his biggest opportunities to prove his talents. Yves Edwards returns to the UFC for the first time since losing to Joe Stevenson at UFC 61 due to a bad cut. A native of the Bahamas but now fighting out of Woodlands, Texas, Edwards carries a professional record of 33 wins, 13 losses and 1 draw. His most recent match came just 6 weeks ago at EliteXC - Street Certified where he KO'd James Edson Berto with a hard knee. A strong striker with any part of his body, Edwards is remembered for a spectacular head kick KO at UFC 49 in a victory over Josh Thomson. This could be Edwards last shot at the UFC , and he will be going out to prove his toughness with the best lightweight fighters in the world. -------------------------------------------- UFC Ultimate Fight Night 13 Final Card Lightweight Division "El Matador" Roger Huerta (20-1-1) vs. Yves Edwards (33-13-1) Middleweight Division Evan Tanner (32-6) vs. Ivan Salaverry (12-5) Welterweight Division "The Silent Assassin" Luke Cummo (6-4) vs. Ben Saunders (5-0-2) Lightweight Division Marcus Aurelio (15-5) vs. John "The Hurricane" Halverson (16-5) Heavyweight Division Jake O'Brien (10-0) vs. Eddie Sanchez (8-1) Light Heavyweight Division Houston Alexander (8-2) vs. Goran Reljic (7-0)
Post predictions if you wish, or any form of feedback.
Great start man, keep it up. Considering you consider yourself a rookie you put together some good competetive matches on that first card. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers, Jamie.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Reljic steps in and fires off two jabs to the face, but Alexander responds with a swinging right, Reljic throws himself out of the way, if that hit him in the head he was done for. Alexander wants a KO victory here, you have to wonder whether he rates Reljic's ability. Alexander jabs twice, forcing Reljic back towards the cage. Alexander drives, and sweeps, and down goes Reljic. Not often you see Alexander take someone down that easily. Alexander is in real control now, right hands are raining down, and two big ones connect, one to the mouth, one just above the right eye. The referee's having a look at this, Alexander fires off some more punches, one misses and Reljic grabs it, TRIANGLE CHOKE! Alexander got way too sloppy and that is locked in tight! Reljic uses all the pressure he can muster and Alexander's fading, he taps! Alexander taps out! What an upset this is! Great strategy from Goran Reljic, he's beaten Houston Alexander by submission, and he remains undefeated in his UFC debut. Winner: Goran Reljic Verdict: Submission (Triangle Choke) - 3:46 of Round 1 Rating: ** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. JAKE O'BRIEN vs. EDDIE SANCHEZ Heavyweight Division Round One Almost an incredible start as O'Brien trips whilst circling, Sanchez can't get in quickly enough to take advantage though. That would have been pretty hilarious. O'Brien goes to make up for his clumsiness with a some crisp jabs, one seeming to make Sanchez wince, before there's a clinch. Some rabbit punches aren't enough to keep things interesting, so the referee seperates them. Sanchez goes for a big shot, but O'Brien dodges and connects with a right hand to the gut. Sanchez turns to try and get a shot in but walks right into a big left hook, Sanchez is down to one knee, and O'Brien backs off as Sanchez manages to get back up. Sanchez doesn't seem too shaken, he was going backwards anyway and it just caused him to lose balance. Sanchez throws a high kick which is nowhere near, and time runs down in an exciting round. O'Brien will probably take it due to the better striking. Round Two Action straight away as they trade quick jabs, before O'Brien works in an angle to connect with one of three attempted jabs, Sanchez tried to block valiantly. O'Brien's punching has looked very sharp thus far. Kick to the leg from Sanchez, and the two men strike furiously with flurries of punching, the crowd get to their feet, real exciting stuff, no big bombs connect but O'Brien got the better of Sanchez with a well placed shot to the jaw. Sanchez is just not able to keep up with O'Brien's hand speed. Speculative high kick from O'Brien fails to connect, Sanchez attempts to move in but O'Brien is there with a straight right to back Sanchez up again. The round ends, another one to O'Brien who will be looking to knock Sanchez out if he maintains this level of punching. Round Three Sanchez throws some looping punches, but O'Brien grabs a single leg and Sanchez goes down. Sanchez gets up quickly meaning O'Brien is unable to follow up, Sanchez swings with a left but O'Brien is right in there again, and this time Sanchez can't get out of it and pulls guard. O'Brien wants to keep this down now, it's unlikely Sanchez will be able to work a submission. O'Brien grabs side control, and it's almost like Sanchez has no ideas on how to defend this, O'Brien connects with some hard elbow to the ribs, and goes for a kimura, Sanchez trying to block it, and succeeds. Time expires with them on the mat, O'Brien has dominated this round, and the match. Round One Really horrible start to this one compared to the excitement we had in the previous bout, over a minute goes by with just circling and just the occasional jabs being thrown, but none connecting. Halverson goes in but gets a kick to the shin for his troubel, they clinch and Aurelio gets backed against the cage. Aurelio ducks a right hand and breaks free, and we're ack to the centre. Uninspiring stuff. Halverson with a couple of rights to the gloves of Aurelio, and then he nails a left hand to the body which is probably the only good punch this round has had. Aurelio makes a mistake and leans forward allowing Halverson to connect with a left to the cheek, and a big right cross is just centimetres away from connecting flush on Aurelio's chin. More circling, and the clock ticks down to zero. Round goes to Halverson purely for some slightly interesting punches. Round Two An Aurelio right sets ip a low kick, and they clinch for a few seconds. Jabs thrown simulataneously, they both miss, and they're clinching again. Knee to the ribs from Halverson, and Aurelio is backed agaisnt the cage, where he gets a right hand uppercut in. Halverson lets him go, but follows up with some stinging jabs and a big body shot. Finally some excitement as they meet in the middle with some swinging rights, and it's Aurelio who makes the telling connection, Halverson is down! Aurelio is quick to follow up and he's in to the mount position, he unloads with one big right hand which Halverson can't block, and another one lands with Halverson doing very little to defend himself. One more does the trick the referee pulls Aurelio away. Halverson wasn't out of it, and the Halverson corner aren't happy with the referee's decision there. Halverson can count himself unlucky to lose, he was taking the fight to Aurelio for the most part. Winner: Marcus Aurelio Verdict: TKO - 3:39 of Round 2 Rating: ** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. "THE SILENT ASSASSIN" LUKE CUMMO vs. BEN SAUNDERS Welterweight Division Round One Cummo shows some early agression with some rapid-fire punching, Saunders backs off quickly, perhaps not expecting that from Cummo. Saunders throws a kick to the rib cage, and goes to follow up with a high kick which Cummo is able to dodge. Saunders throws a one-two combo, both miss, but he follows through with a kick that stings the ribs of Cummo again. Cummo seems pissed off by that and comes out with a big swing, but Saunders duks and kicks Cummo in the knee. That hurt Cummo, you could see him wince. Saunders continues with the leg kicks any time Cummo moves in too close, there's nothing Cummo can do if Saunders keeps him at bay with those painful kicks. Cummo can't do anything to save the round and Saunders will take it comfortably. Round Two Will Saunders keep kicking? Not to start with as Cummo is jabbing away. Cummo keeps tentatively jabbing, and it sets up a big right hand which Saunders ducks and connects with a hard right to the body. Two more jabs to the face of Cummo and they clinch, Cummo didn't like that second jab and he seems rattled. Cummo is able to drive Saunders backwards to the fence and uses some more jabs to keep Saunders on the back foot, he goes for another big right hand, but again it misses and Saunders catches him off balance with a hook, it only glances the cheek but it's enough to drop Cummo to his knees. Cummo is back up quickly, seemingly more of a fall than a knockdown, and goes for a big kick to the head but Saunders steps back to avoid it, and that will be all for the second round. Another one to Saunders for those big shots. Round Three Cummo has it all to do, and we get a frantic start with both men throwing some punches, most of the missing, but Cummo connects with a kick to the thigh, maybe letting Saunders know how it feels. They circle, and there's some more punches thrown and missed, and they clinch. Cummo manages to strike with a knee to the ribs, which is enough to allow him to back Saunders into the cage. Saunders stomps the foot of Cummo to get a reversal, but Cummo gets Saunders back to the cage, gets an arm free and throws a big shot to the cheek which Saunders can only just avoid. Saunders manages to slip out of Cummo's pressure, goes for a high kick which Cummo dodges, and Cummo comes back hard with two body shots and a jab that breaks Saunders' defences to strike his nose. The round ends, and although it was fairly even, that last flurry from Cummo will be enough for him to take the round. We go to the judges: Judge #1 scores the fight 29-28 to Saunders. Judge #2 scores the fight 29-28 to Saunders. Judge #3 scores the fight 29-28 to Saunders. A left jab from Tanner in response catches the cheek of Salaverry and a red mark appears. Salaverry comes in to get some revenge, but walks right into a huge high kick to the head! A great shot, but Salaverry somehow manages to stay on his feet, but he's clearly stunned. Tanner comes in with a flurry of right hands, but Salaverry shows great heart by holding on long enough to get his senses back and gets a clinch to buy some time. Salaverry gets a good knee in from the clinch, and Tanner is a bit fatigued from the barrage he unloaded earlier. They break the clinch, but Salaverry is able to hit a right hand on his way out. The first round winds down, Tanner takes it thanks to the high kick and subsequent punches. Round Two Tanner goes back to the high kick straight away, but Salaverry keeps out of the way this time. An exchange of strikes, but there's no real advantage for either man. Salaverry catches a crisp right on the shoulder, and they clinch for what seems like an eternity. The referee has no option but to seperate them. Tanner finds some energy, delivering a nice combination of two jabs, a cross and an uppercut that finds it mark, most of the punches met the gloves of Salaverry however. Salaverry delivers a low kick to the thigh, and goes for two hard punches of his own that Tanner is able to block. Tanner ducks another right and catches Salaverry with a stiff right hook to the jaw, causing Salaverry to stumble backwards and cover up instinctively, that one must have hurt. Salaverry heads to the cage and clinches, meaning Tanner can't follow up as he would have liked. Tanner will take the round thanks to some nice punching, particularly that big one at the end. Round Three Salaverry goes for a big jab to start things off, but there was little threat in it, and Tanner steps in to deliver a kick to the thigh. Lots of circling, not a lot of action right now, Tanner comes in for some quick rights and lefts but they're ineffective, Salaverry goes to back Tanner up against the cage, but Tanner reverses and it's Salaverry meeting cage, and Tanner is able to get a couple of shots to the face in whilst he's there. Salaverry covers up quickly and eventually clinches, Tanner tries to get some knees in but Salaverry has his ribs well covered. Salaverry drives back to centre and kicks to the thigh of Tanner, but Tanner sways out of the way of a right cross and unloads a hard right hand to the body. Salaverry gets a striaght right, but Tanner hits back with a jab to the nose. Salaverry clinches to stop Tanner following up, and the round is going to end with Tanner and Salaverry in a clinch, and once again we're going to the judges. Judge #1 scores the fight 30-27 to Tanner. Judge #2 scores the fight 30-27 to Tanner. Judge #3 scores the fight 30-27 to Tanner. Edwards eventually breaks the deadlock and delivers a couple of one-two combinations, Huerta does his best to defend but one got through to the ribs. Huerta responds with a straight right which catches the gloves. They circle some more and the crowd are not liking this, the referee encourages to do something... anything... they eventually meet in the middle with a rapid fire punch exchange, Edwards probably getting the better of that, and they clinch. Huerta gets a knee in to the ribs to break the clinch, and delivers a kick to the thigh. The round ends, Huerta probably hasn't done enough to win it despite that kick, Edwards' punches were better. Round Two Edwards starts out fast by jabbing once, and going for a leg kick. Edwards follows that in with another jab, but Huerta unloads with a BIG right hand! That caught Edwards right on the jaw and he goes down fast, Huerta goes to follow up but the referee immediately intervenes and sends him back, this one is all over. Huerta showed great patience there, just waited for Edwards to move in and caught him with what is almost a perfect punch. The re-match between Matt Serra and Georges St Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Title will co-main event with the UFC Lightweight Title on the line, as BJ Penn takes on Sean Sherk. First up let's take a look at the bouts taking place on the preliminary card. Herring spent 4 years fighting with the PRIDE promotion, where he established a name for himself with several wins and his unique look. After one of the most infamous "fights" in MMA history at K-1 Dynamite, where he KO'd Yoshihiro Nakao after Nakao kissed Herring as they stood in the centre of the ring, Herring made his way to the UFC, where he suffered a surprising defeat on debut to Jake O'Brien. A win over Brad Imes and defeat to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 73 have since followed, and Herring needs a win here to re-establish himself in the heavyweight division. Ben Rothwell makes his octagon debut in this match, but his reputation precedes him. Currently holding a professional record of 27 wins and 5 losses, Rothwell has made a name for himself in the IFL, and won at the 2007 Team Championship final with a victory over Ricco Rodriguez. Rothwell is yet to be tested by some of the big names in the sport, but his performances thus far have done more than enough for him to warrant an opportunity on the biggest stage in MMA. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. RICH FRANKLIN vs. RICARDO ALMEIDA Middleweight Division Rich Franklin is one of the major names in the UFC, and is a former UFC Middleweight champion, losing the title to current champion Anderson Silva at UFC 64, and has since lost a re-match to Silva for the title at UFC 77. He holds a professional record of 22 wins with 3 losses, and has beaten some of the biggest names in MMA, such as Ken Shamrock, Yushin Okami and two victories over Evan Tanner. Franklin is an experienced, tough and determined fighter, and it seems only a matter of time before Franklin gets another chance at UFC gold. Ricardo Almeida is having his second fight in as many months within the octagon, he steps in for Ultimate Fighter winner Travis Lutter who has pulled out for personal reasons. In Almeida's last visit to the octagon he defeated Rob Yundt with ease by submission in 68 seconds, and he has also competed against Matt Lindland and Andrei Semenov inside the cage. With Franklin he has a much more daunting task than Yundt, and he will be tested perhaps moreso than any match in his career. Almeida holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Renzo Gracie, and has a professional record of 9 wins, 2 losses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. TITO ORTIZ vs. MAURICIO RUA Light Heavyweight Division Tito Ortiz, also known as the Huntington Beach Bad Boy, is one of the most famous names in the MMA world. He held the UFC Light Heavyweight Title for three years and five months, defeating luminaries such as Wanderlai Silva, Evan Tanner and Ken Shamrock. Other notable victories have come over Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin, as well as two non-title victories over Ken Shamrock. Ortiz's last appearance in the octagon came against Rashad Evans at UFC 73 where they fought to a draw. A re-match has been on the cards for a while, and could well happen regardless of the outcome of this fight. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua comes into this contest with a record of 16 wins and 3 losses. A PRIDE staple before it's closure, Rua defeated some huge names in the sport, such as Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Kevin Randleman. He has also defeated Alistair Overeem on two occasions. Rua has fought once inside the octagon against Forrest Griffin, a match he was heavily backed to win, but ended up being choked out by Griffin in the third round. Rua will be hoping a victory over somebody as big a name as Tito Ortiz will be what he needs to get a UFC Light Heavyweight Title match. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. BJ PENN (C) vs. SEAN SHERK UFC LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE MATCH "The Prodigy" BJ Penn is the current UFC Lightweight champion, and holds a professional MMA record of 12 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. Penn is also a former UFC Welterweight champion, and is one of only two men to win UFC titles in different weight divisions. Penn defeated Joe Stevenson for the title at UFC 80, in a match that was originally for the interim title until Sherk was stripped of it for drug violations. Throughout his career Penn has defeated stars such as Jens Pulver, Matt Hughes, Takanori Gomi and Renzo Gracie, but this match with Sherk is full of personal tension between the two fighters, and a win for Penn could well be the most meaningful of all his victories. Sean Sherk is a native of Anoka, Minnesota with a professional record of 32 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. The former UFC Lightweight champion, Sherk was stripped of the title just before UFC 80 after testing positive for nandrolone after a title defence against Hermes Franca at UFC 73. The results of the test have been upheld after appeal, but Sherk's suspension of a year was shortened to six months. Sherk and Penn certainly have bad blood between them, but Sherk will also be looking to prove himself as the true UFC Lightweight champion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. MATT SERRA (c) vs. GEORGES ST. PIERRE UFC WELTERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Matt Serra is the current UFC Welterweight champion after defeating Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69. Serra earned the shot by winning the Ultimate Fighter 4, and despite being ranked as a heavy outsider for the contest, Serra was able to win by TKO in the first round. Serra holds a record of 9 wins and 4 losses in his MMA career, and was due to fight Matt Hughes, his rival coach during Ultimate Fighter 6, at UFC 79, but had to pull out due to a back injury. Serra will now face St. Pierre for his second match in a row, an will certainly be looking for a similar result. Georges St. Pierre burst onto the UFC scene with victories over Karo Parisyan at UFC 46. From St. Isidore, Quebec and with a record of 15 wins with two losses, St. Pierre (GSP) won the UFC Welterweight title with a victory over Matt Hughes at UFC 65, but lost the title 5 months later to Serra. Since then GSP has beaten Josh Koscheck and Matt Hughes once more to win the interim title, after Serra had pulled out of a title match against Hughes. St. Pierre claims to be better than ever now, and is looking for an element of revenge against Serra for his initial title loss. -------------------------------------------- UFC Ultimate Fight Night 13 Preliminary Card Lightweight Division Kenny Florian (7-3) vs. Matt Wiman (9-3) Light Heavyweight Division James Irvin (13-4) vs. Jason MacDonald (19-9) Welterweight Division Akihiro Gono (27-12-7) vs. Matt Arroyo (3-1) Middleweight Division Patrick Cote vs. Demian Maia MAIN CARD UFC WELTERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Matt Serra (c) (9-4) vs. Georges St Pierre (15-2) UFC LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE MATCH BJ Penn (c) (12-4-1) vs. Sean Sherk (32-2-1) Light Heavyweight Division Tito Ortiz (15-5-1) vs. Mauricio Rua (16-3) Middleweight Division Rich Franklin (22-3) vs. Ricardo Almeida (9-2) Heavyweight Division Heath Herring (27-13) vs. Ben Rothwell (27-5)
I was just wondering with the match write ups do you re-write them or somehow copy them from the actually game???
They're based on the games results, but ultimately all hand written by me. I take the play-by-play from the game and put it in my own words basically, I'm not quite intelligent enough to write my own from scratch!
UFC 83: ULTIMATE RIVALS We are LIVE from Los Angeles, California for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest events of all time. Georges St Pierre will take on Matt Serra for the UFC Welterweight title, BJ Penn defends the UFC Lightweight title against Sean Sherk, plus Tito Ortiz takes on Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. All that plus Rich Franklin, Heath Herring and the octagon debut of Ben Rothwell! But first, let's find out what happened in the preliminary bouts earlier this evening. Maia took the first round comfortably after a takedown, followed by rapid punches, side control and an attempted kimura. Maia should have won the match from that position, but his lack of finishing proved crucial as Cote scored with a huge uppercut in the second round, knocking Maia to the cage where Cote unloaded enough connecting punches to cause the referee to end the match. Gono took the first round thanks to a controversial knockdown, Arroyo seemed to stumble but a punch connected as well, the damage was minimal and Arroyo got back up straight away. Late in the second round Arroyo was able to take Gono down, and hammered his way through Gono's guard with some big shots, got into side control and continued the barrage. Irvin had taken the first by utilising his stand up game, keeping MacDonald off balance with good striking and kicks. MacDonald looks for takedowns often, but it goes against him when Irvin is able to back him against the cage whilst in a clinch, and delivers a huge uppercut. MacDonald heads down where Irvin wails away with left and rights, MacDonald has nowhere to go and the referee steps him to stop him getting destroyed. Very good performance from Irvin. The first round was all Florian, using a series of kicks to the ribs, and even one to the head which Wiman is just able to block from connecting fully and knocking him out. The second round was closer, but unspectacular on all fronts, both men connect with fairly big shots that don't do a whole lot of damage, Florian pips Wiman to the round at the end with a jab combination which is almost followed by a big right cross that would've knocked Wiman out. Another round to Florian follows after another great kick to the head, Wiman covers up from the resulting punches and clinched to stop it, but the damage was done, and KenFlo took the contest by unanimous decision. Herring doesn't do that, but Rothwell stalks him long enough to get him near the cage. Herring scores with a quick jab, but Rothwell responds with a powerful right hand to the body. A huge left hook fizzes by Herring's nose, and a huge right meets Herring's gloves. Rothwell wants a KO here and knows he can do it. Herring keeps moving to stop Rothwell getting a shot in, but he's probably going to lose the round by not being agressive. Rothwell connects with a jab, but Herring responds with two that catch the gloves. The round comes to an end with the two men circling, Rothwell is looking like a threat. Round Two The two men exchange punches but none of them connect, but Herring tries to get a shot to the chin of Rothwell, Rothwell just able to avoid it. Rothwell then comes on the rampage with eleven, twelve, thirteen punches to Herring, Herring tries to cover up, manages to get one or two shots to the body of Rothwell wins, and then gets a low kick aimed to the leg but possibly connecting with the groin of Rothwell. Hehehehe, groin. That might go against Herring in the round points, but Rothwell would probably have taken it anyway after that great combination of punches. Round Three Rothwell wants to trade punches again, but Herring is content staying back and hitting some low kicks, but they eventually exchange blows and there's no clear winner from that. Herring gets a head-fake in and delivers a beauty of a right hook, Rothwell stumbles but doesn't go down, a kick from Herring meets the ribs, and Rothwell is forced to clinch. Herring is able to take Rothwell down with a single leg, and gets into side control looking for an armbar. Rothwell is inches away from his arm being straightened, and eventually rolls into a good position that stops Herring from getting enough leverage. Herring tries to stop over, but Rothwell connects with some up-kicks that send Herring back. Herring tells Rothwell to get up, and Rothwell strikes when they're both standing, Herring was almost embarrassed there. The round ends, Herring will take the round, but is it enough?
Rogan: Ben Rothwell, great debut for you in the UFC, how do you feel the fight went? Rothwell: Uh... yeah it's just how I wanted it, I'm kinda pissed about that last round but that's how it goes, Heath Herring's a hell of a fighter, he outclassed me that last round but I think my punching won it for me early on. Rogan: It looked like you really wanted the early finish with those big punches at the start. Rothwell: Hey I just wanted to show off! Nah, I mean I thought I had the punching power to KO anyone, I've learned from this that maybe that won't work and I've got to adapt, which I did. Almeida's not liking this and he grabs a clinch. Long range jabs are exchanged, but Franklin comes in to nail a body shot, and a right hand nearly catches the jaw of Almeida, if that had landed it was over. Almeida finally makes a comeback with a leg kick and a one-two combination, but it's far too little too late. Great round from Franklin, his punching was just superb. Round Two They hit the centre of the ring, Franklin moves in first and connects with a couple of jabs, before Almeida smothers with a clinch. A few rabbit punchs from both men to try and establish control, but it's Almeida who is able to back Franklin up against the cage. Almeida keeps Franklin back with some jabs, and goes for it all with one big punch, but Franklin ducks and Almeida actually strikes the cage! Franklin comes back with a left hook that connects with the cheek of Almeida, who stumbles back on to one knee! Franklin moves in, but Almeida gets back to two feet and tries to catch Franklin with a high kick as he moves in but he doesn't have the balance to get it anywhere close. The round ends, bad timing for Franklin who had Almeida on the run, but he'll take the round anyway. Round Three This is make or break for Almeida, but Franklin connects with some tough jabs to start with, and a straight right from Almeida can only catch the gloves of Franklin. Lots of circling, very little action, Almeida may be biding him time but there's only so much time he can bide before it's over. Body shots are finally exchanged, but it ends in a clinch that goes nowhere. Back seperated, Almeida connects with a kick to the ribs, but that surely can't be enough for the round as Franklin has kept him at bay. The round ends, and it goes to the judges. Franklin: Well yeah, a win's a win, obviously it's a shame Travis Lutter had to drop out but these things happen, Ricardo put up a great fight, I mean those kicks hurt! I just wanted to control it, and I did that. Rogan: Many people will say you've had your chances against Silva, do you want the UFC Middleweight title back? Franklin: Oh yeah, of course, that's the goal man, if I don't have a goal there's no point in me being here. People can say I've blown my chances to beat Silva in the past, but I'm gonna prove to them that I deserve another opportunity, if I'm the best middleweight challenger than I deserve a shot at the title, and by my reckoning, if noboby beats me then I'm still the best challenger.
Winner: Rich Franklin by Unanimous Decision Rating: ** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. TITO ORTIZ (15-5-1) vs. MAURICIO RUA (16-3) Light Heavyweight Division Round One Rua doesn't waste much time in this contest, he gets a right hand through the gloves of Ortiz and Ortiz has to shake the effects off. Ortiz with a kick to the thigh, but a right hand is ducked and Rua connects with a shot to the gut. They meet in the middle and there's a flurry of punchez, Ortiz manages to get a jab through, but Rua gets a straight right in to just above the eye, and there's a mark left. Rua moves in and flicks a jab just past the ear of Ortiz, Ortiz tries a right hook in response, but Rua easily moves. Rua's been out-manovering Ortiz all round, and as it ends, he'll take it for the better punches as well. Round Two Rua stalks Ortiz around the ring as we start the second round, Ortiz tries some jabs to get him back to back up, but they don't connect. Rua throws a kick that catches Ortiz on the hip, then parries a left hook from Ortiz. Kick to the calf from Rua, these kicks are doing more than just physical damage, they're showing Ortiz doesn't have the speed of Rua to avoid them. Ortiz clinches, and it remains that way for over a minute, before an uppercut from Ortiz seperates them, and Ortiz gets a straight left, only for Rua to duck a second one and kick Ortiz in the left knee, another kick to the same knee takes Ortiz down to one knee! Ortiz is up again but he seems hurt, Shogun is coming for Ortiz with more kicks and Ortiz is backing further and further away. The round ends, Rua wins it comfortably. Round Three Rua seems a bit tired from all his kicking, he gets Ortiz against the cage quickly, fires off some shots to the head and body, very few actually connect though. Rua steps back to avoid the clinch, and Rua gets the better of a brief exchange of strikes, two jabs from Rua connect, but Ortiz parries a third and moves in for a takedown, but loses the leverage quickly, good defence from Rua. Ortiz gets a clinch and looks for a trip, but Rua works free to avoid the grappling contest Ortiz wants, and we can see why when Rua nails Ortiz with a looping right hand that hits above the eye of Ortiz. Rua comes in to strike again, but Ortiz grabs a leg and finally gets his takedown, unfortunately for him there's only thirty second left. He cannot get a mount or side control, Rua keeps him at bay long enough for time to tick down. That round could go either way, I'm not even going to take a guess. All I know is that we're going to the judges scores. Judge #1 scores the fight 30-27 to Mauricio Rua. Judge #2 scores the fight 30-27 to Mauricio Rua. Judge #3 scores the fight 30-27 to Mauricio Rua. Dewing: Hey everyone around the world, thanks for tuning in to UFC 83, we've had some great fights tonight and we've got two more huge fights on their way. But if I'm standing here you know I'm doing so for a reason, and it's to announce the main event of our next UFC event, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Last month I announced the signing of Fedor Emelianenko to the UFC, well now.... he's got a match. And I'm sure that most of you can guess his opponent. It's been a dream match in the making, it's the biggest non-title heavyweight match of all time, it's Fedor Emelianenko taking on Randy Couture!!! In addition to that, a tournament will be held in each of our divisions to find out the best contender for each title, and the first one of these will be the Lightweight division, the first four quarter-finals will take place at UFC 84, which will be subtitled Randy vs. Fedor by the way, and the semi-final dates will be decided based on fighter availability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. BJ PENN (C) vs. SEAN SHERK UFC LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Round One Sherk's not wasting any time here, he gets in a low kick and a right hand, backing Penn up against the cage. Another hook hits the body of Penn, who attempts a sweep and doesn't get it. They return to the centre where Sherk connects with a solid right hand to the side of the head, that rocked Penn, Sherk follows that up with a second to almost the same spot and Penn is looking weak at the knees. They back up to the cage and Sherk starts unloading with punches. Penn tries to cover up but the punches from Sherk just keep coming and coming! Penn's sinking closer and closer to the floor, and the defence is wearing thin, the referee stops it!!! We have a new UFC Lightweight champion! And the crowd HATE it, whether or not they're booing for Sherk's victory or the referee stopping it will probably be decided in the post match interview...
Rogan: I'm here with the new UFC Lightweight champion Sean... Sherk: Hey, I've always been champion, this guy was just keeping my belt warm for a few weeks. Rogan: Well, I gotta ask, this is exactly what you wanted right? Sherk: Yeah I came into this not just to get my belt back, but also to show BJ that I was a better fighter than him, which I did too. Can't deny that I just knocked him down and put him away just like I said I would. Rogan: Coming off your drugs ban, is there anything you want to say to your doubters? Sherk: I don't give a crap about the doubters, I don't give a crap about these fans booing me, I'm clean, I'm a clean fighter and I always have been, I'll take the test after this fight and I'll be clean, just like all the other times when the testers do their jobs properly. I'm UFC Lightweight champion, and that's how it's going to remain. Rogan: Before this contest UFC President Chris Dewing announced there would be a tournament to decide your next challenger, any thoughts on that? Sherk: Well yeah, it's one way of deciding my next victim I suppose, I don't really care who wins the tournament, they're not getting this title unless the UFC decide to take it away again for another made up reason.
OK, the fans were booing Sherk. PIERRE (15-3) UFC WELTERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Round One St. Pierre comes out swinging, a big right hand narrowly misses Sherk's nose. St. Pierre goes for two more big punches, but Sherk avoids them both, and St. Pierre might be a bit tired after that. Frantic start, but Sherk slows it down with some jabs before backing St. Pierre up to the cage. Serra clinches and gets a leg behind St. Pierre, and there's a big trip with St. Pierre landing hard. Serra can't do much as St. Pierre is too close to the cage for him to do much. Serra tries to secure an armbar, but St. Pierre blocks it, and shifts his weight to try and get back to his feet, which Serra is able to block. Serra gets in some stiff punches to the back and then one to the face of St. Pierre, but they're soon back in half guard, and that's where the round ends. Serra's looked really good, St. Pierre doesn't seem to have woken up yet. Round Two Wow, after a good first round this is terrible. Two minutes go by with no menainful shots connecting, but eventually they trade punches with no real advantage being gained, they clinch, St. Pierre connects with a knee to the ribs, but goes for another and ends up getting slammed by Serra! That's two times St. Pierre has hit the mat hard, Serra on top quickly, and some hard punches hit the gloves, but one gets through to the forehead. St. Pierre tries for an armbar when Serra misses a punch, but Serra gets free, only to lose his good position and St. Pierre is on his feet. St. Pierre goes for two big swinging punches, but they both miss. A slight air of desperation about that, as the round comes to an end, and a second round goes to Serra. Round Three St. Pierre comes out with a right hand and a low kick, but a jab misses, as does a jab from Serra. A right hand from St. Pierre gets through, but Serra gets in some jabs that find the gloves, and then a big body shot that connects. However, Serra misses a right hand and leaves himself open to a takedown from St. Pierre. Serra pulls guard, and St. Pierre can do very little with his punches. St. Pierre comes in to pass guard but leaves his arm in, and Serra grabs the opportunity with both legs! The arm is synched and Serra pulls away, that is one tight arm bar! St. Pierre is trying, but it seems to be in vain, and he taps! St. Pierre taps! Serra defends his title! Well that wouldn't have been expected coming in, but St. Pierre was sloppy this whole match. Serra is busy celebrating, so Rogan gets a quick word with Georges St. Pierre.
Rogan: Georges... unlucky man, great fight, just not your night. St. Pierre: Yeah... I guess... you know that's twice now, that's not what I wanted, I don't have any excuses, this wasn't my best performance, not even close, and I guess I wasted my shot. Rogan: Very honest of you, where do you go from here? St. Pierre: I've gotta focus on training mentally as well as physically because there were just too many mistakes tonight and it cost me. But I'll be back, don't worry about that. Rogan: Thanks Georges. Now to our winner Matt Serra, Matt, two out of two against one of the best in the world, and still champion, how does it feel? Serra: It's great Joe, I know a lot of people thought tonight was a formality, betting was against me, but being an underdog doesn't phase me one bit, I came here with a purpose and a strategy, I don't think Georges was at his best, but I think I deserve some credit for that. Rogan: Who's next, Hughes? Fitch? Serra: I'd like to fight Fitch, I know it's not up to me, but the guys won 8 damn fights in a row, if that's not worthy of a shot at a title then nothing is. He ain't gonna make it 9 though! Rogan: Thanks Matt, and congratulations once again.
Winner and still UFC Weltwerweight Champion: Matt Serra by submission (Armbar) - 3:34 of Round 3 Rating: *** -------------------------------------------- Another huge disappointment that loses me popularity everywhere. It's near impossible to gain popularity with the UFC in the TOS mod at first. Because the organization is so big size wise, every fight has to be a Fedor Vs Couture esque fight. Just keep doing what you are doing bro and kutgw.
The welterweight winner of the second Ultimate Fighter, Stevenson has spent all of his UFC career since then competing in the lightweight division. He holds wins in the octagon over Yves Edwards, Melvin Guillard and Kurt Pellegrino, but his last outing was a shot at the UFC Lightweight title against BJ Penn for the vacant championship. Stevenson came up short on that occasion, but he will be looking for success in this tournament for his shot at the new champion, Sean Sherk. Tyson Griffin holds a record of 11 wins with 1 loss, hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada where this event will take place. Griffin has fought inside the octagon on five occasions, with just one loss to Frank Edgar. He has defeated Clay Guida, Thiago Taveres and Gleison Tibau, and outside the UFC he is the only man to have defeated Urijah Faber in professional combat. Griffin is only 24 so he has plenty of time to work his way to the top of the ladder, but that won't stop him wanting to win this tournament. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. GILBERT MELENDEZ vs. GESIAS CALVANCANTE Lightweight Division - Quarter Final "El Nino" Gilbert Melendez is making is UFC debut in this tournament, and comes into the octagon with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss. Melendez also competed in the defunct PRIDE organisation, where he obtained a victory over Tasuya Kawajiri. Melendez will be hoping to bring the best of his jiu-jitsu skills to the octagon, and make a huge impact upon his arrival in the UFC. Gesias Calvancante is another debuting fighter, who has a professional record of 14 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Calvancante has developed his career in several promotions, most notable in K-1 where he holds victories over Caol Uno, Vitor Ribeiro and Andre Amade. In September 2006 Calvancate won the K-1 Lightweight Grand Prix championship, and one year later in 2007, Calvancante defended his crown. These victories make Calvancante more than qualified to take part in this tournament, and he will be hoping for the best possible start to his UFC career. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. MATT HUGHES vs. DIEGO SANCHEZ Welterweight Division Matt Hughes has done a lot since his UFC debut back in September 1999. A two time UFC Welterweight champion, Hughes has a professional record of 41 wins with 6 losses. Some of those 41 wins have come against some of the biggest names in the MMA world, legends such as Royce Gracie and Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Hayato Sakurai, Carlos Newton, Frank Trigg, Akihiro Gono, the list goes on and on. The sub-title of his autobiography, The Most Dominant Champion In UFC History, is not far from the truth, and Hughes is determined to make his way back to the top of the Welterweight division once more. Diego Sanchez is the middleweight winner of the very first Ultimate Fighter, who became a welterweight immediately afterwards, and forged a path of glory with wins over Nick Diaz, John Alessio, Karo Parisyan and Joe Riggs. But Sanchez suffered somewhat of a loss of form, losing to Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch. Sanchez has never received the title shot many feel his early form deserved, and he will need to start winning again if he is to achieve title success. A win against someone as revered as Matt Hughes would be a major step towards that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. NATE DIAZ vs. CLAY GUIDA Lightweight Division - Tournament Quarter Final Nate Diaz was the winner of the Ultimate Fighter 5, mainly due to Manny Gamburyan suffering a dislocated shoulder in the finale. Thus far he is undefeated inside the octagon, with victories over Gamburyan, Junior Assuncao and Alvin Robinson. This however will be Diaz's UFC PPV debut, and he will be looking to impress on the biggest stage, as well as make it through to the next round of the tournament. Clay Guida fought all around the world before coming to the UFC, and has gained a professional record of 22 wins and 9 losses as a result. However his form inside the octagon has been mixed to say the least. A debut victory over Justin James was followed by losses to Tyson Griffin, Din Thomas and Roger Huerta. Guida's place in this tournament may be a surprise to some, but for Guida it's the perfect opportunity to prove his critics wrong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. ROBBIE LAWLER vs. MATT LINDLAND Middleweight Division Robbie Lawler returns to the octagon after over three years away, and he brings back his ruthless, aggressive style with him. Lawler made his UFC debut in 2002, and has a 4-3 record inside the octagon, losing probably his biggest two matches to Evan Tanner and Nick Diaz. Now a more experienced fighter, Lawler will be hoping that this time he is able to make a lasting impression. Matt Lindland is also returning to the octagon after an absence of two and a half years. Holding a record of 20 wins with five losses, Lindland has beaten some great fighters in his career thus far, including Jeremy Horn, Phil Baroni, Mark Weir, Carlos Newto and Joe Doerksen. Since leaving the UFC in 2005 thanks to a shirt-advertising misdemeanour, Lindland has been working as a coach in the IFL, as well as appearing in the corner of Team Quest members Georges St Pierre and BJ Penn at UFC events. Now back inside the octagon, Lindland will be looking to prove he still has what it takes at the age of 37. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. SPENCER FISHER vs. SHINYA AOKI Lightweight Division - Tournament Quarter Final Spencer Fisher hails from Bettendorf, Iowa and holds a professional record of 20 wins with 4 losses. Fisher has had a few problems with injuries in recent months, but claims to be 100% fit and ready to go for this tournament. Shinya Aoki comes in to the UFC as one of the most exciting young fighters in Japan, who after being undefeated in PRIDE, has travelled to the USA to show his jiu-jitsu skills on the biggest stage of them all. Aoki holds wins over Joachim Hansen and Akira Kikuchi from his time in Japan, and he will be hoping that now he's in the USA there will be plenty more victims to add to his list of 12 career victories. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. RASHAD EVANS vs. FORREST GRIFFIN Light Heavyweight Division Rashad Evans was the winner of the heavyweight contest of the Ultimate Fighter 2, and remains undefeated in professional MMA with 15 wins and a draw to his name. The one draw was against Tito Ortiz at UFC 73, and he has fought and defeated several others in his octagon tenure, including Stephan Bonner, Jason Lambert and Michael Bisping. Evans will no doubt be looking to remain undefeated against what could be his biggest challenge thus far. Forrest Griffin won the Light Heavyweight contest in the first Ultimate Fighter in one of the greatest MMA bouts in history against Stephan Bonner. Now fighting with a record of 15 wins and 4 losses, Griffin is no longer considered a reality show by-product, but a legitimate MMA star. He holds victories over Jeff Monson, Keith Jardine, Elvis Sinosic and his biggest victory thus far was over Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua at UFC 76. Griffin is surely a step away from a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, and winning this contest would almost certainly get him that opportunity. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. RANDY COUTURE vs. FEDOR EMELIANENKO Heavyweight Division Randy Couture has finally settled his contract disagreements and returns to the UFC, the promotion where he has become one of the greatest MMA fighters to ever walk the planet. A record of 16 wins and 8 losses doesn't quite tell the story, Couture is a three time UFC Heavyweight champion, a two time UFC Light Heavyweight champion, and he won the heavyweight tournament at UFC 13, his first professional MMA event. A member of the UFC Hall of Fame (inducted before he won his third heavyweight title), there can be no doubting Couture's status as a legend, and yet now he enters the biggest match of his career. Fedor Emelianenko is considered by nearly the entire MMA community as the best heavyweight in the world, and many also rate him as the best pound for pound fighter in the world. With a record of 27 wins and 1 loss, which came by stoppage due to a cut, Fedor has defeated some of the most iconic names in MMA history, Mark Coleman (twice), Gary Goodridge, Kevin Randleman, Kazuyuki Fujita, Yuji Nagata, Mirko Cro Cop, and two victories over current UFC Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. That's a hall of fame-bound list already, and add that to his incredible list of Sambo championship victories (5 time world champion), his PRIDE victories and his accomplishments in RINGS, and you can see why he's so revered. All this, and his UFC journey is only just about to begin. -------------------------------------------- UFC 84: COUTURE VS. UFC 84: COUTURE VS. FEDOR It's being called the biggest match of all time, the match between two of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. All we know is that on May 10th 2008, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture will fight the man called the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko. We've also got the quarter finals of the Lightweight tournament, and big names from all the UFC divisions. Let's kick things off with the matches on the preliminary card. PRELIMINARY CARD vs. BRAD IMES vs. CHEICK KONGO Heavyweight Division A very close contest, Imes took the first round with a takedown followed by big elbows and a kimura attempt, the clock really saving Kongo. The second round went the way of Kongo's striking, he got in some good shots, one striking Imes just above the nose, and one to the stomach. However it was all decided in the third round, when Imes was able to trip Kongo, and after a short battle on the ground, with some big punches and elbows, Imes applied a kimura and Kongo had no choice but to tap. Winner: Brad Imes by Submission - 3:27 of Round 3 Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. ED HERMAN vs. DREW MCFEDRIES Middleweight Division Just 45 seconds was needed for Ed Herman to dispose of Drew McFedries, it could of been quicker after McFedries gave his back to Herman attempting to spin out of a guard position, Herman wasted little time applying a rear naked choke, and that was all we had. Winner: Ed Herman by Submission - 0:45 of Round 1 Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. THIAGO ALVES vs. JONATHAN GOULET Welterweight Division Another closely fought match, Alves took the first round thanks to a takedown and some determined submission attempts, Goulet was almost tied in knots at the end and somehow avoided being forced to tap out. The second round was more in Goulet's favour as they remained standing for the whole round, Goulet used counter punching effectively and hit Alves above the eye which left a mark. But the third was on the ground again, and again towards the end Alves had Goulet on the verge of submitting, Goulet was in a crucifix position as the round ended. Alves took the round, and the match went to the judges. Judge #1 scored it 29-27 to Thiago Alves Judge #2 scored it 29-28 to Thiago Alves Judge #3 scored it 29-28 to Thiago Alves Winner: Thiago Alves by Unanimous Decision Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAIN CARD vs. JOE STEVENSON (28-8) vs. TYSON GRIFFIN (11-1) Lightweight Division - Tournament Quarter-Final Round One A really dull round, two minutes go by with nothing of note, before Stevenson takes Griffin down, and it's a stalemate on the ground as well. Griffin finally tries to wake some of the crowd up with an attempt at a guillotine choke, but Stevenson defends it and tries to apply a kimura, which goes nowhere either. The round ends, and the card organisers might be wishing this had been a prelim. Round Two Finally some action, Stevenson bursts out of the blocks with three jambs which hit the gloves of Griffin, Griffin connects with a low kick in response. Stevenson tries a takedown, and despite Griffin's best efforts, he ends up back on the mat. Stevenson goes for a kimura again, again Griffin blocks, before suddenly managing to slip out of the guard and take Stevenson's back. Stevenson blocks by pinning Griffin against the cage, and eventually manages to get Griffin back on the mat. The round ends, action-packed this time, Stevenson could well take it. Round Three A right hand from Griffin meets the gloves. They exchange punches in the centre, and after a few hit the gloves, Stevenson creeps one through and catches Griffin on the jaw. Griffin stumbles, and he's down! Stevenson is on top of him quickly in a full mount, picking his shots rather than raining punches down. One catches the jaw of Griffin, and then one right on the eye socket. The referee decides to step in, and Stevenson gets the TKO win. The Griffin corner feel that was too early a stoppage, but that won't change things. Winner: Joe Stevenson by TKO - 1:34 into Round Three Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. GILBERT MELENDEZ vs. GESIAS CALVANCANTE Lightweight Division - Quarter Final Round One The two men circle, before hitting the centre of the octagon to exchange jabs, one of Calvancante's seemed to get past Melendez's defences and may have rattled him. Melendez clinces and backs Calvancante up against the cage, Melendez backs up to hit some jabs, but rushes in and catches an elbow from Calvancante! Melendez goes down, but only briefly, and manages to get back up before Calvancante can get hold of him. It seems that Melendez was stunned more than hurt by the elbow, and Calvancante didn't even seem to be throwing it. Calvancante tries a high kick as Melendez backs off, but it's a swing and a miss. The round ends, Calvancante will take it thanks to that elbow knockdown. Round Two The fighters exchange some punches to start, before they clinch. Neither man got much of an advantage from that. Calvancante connects with a jab, but has to move his head back quickly to avoid a right cross from Melendez. Calvancante counters with some rights and lefts, Melendez covers up to weather the storm, but Calvancante gets a couple of shots through. Melendez scores with a low kick to the hip, and we're back to the clinch again. Both men attempt trips to get the controlling takedown, but their defences are too good, and we have a stalemate. The round comes to an end, Calvancante will probably get the round for his flurry of punches. Round Three Melendez has it all to do, but it's Calvancante who makes the brighter start with a series of jabs and straight punches, Melendez is able to block all of them though, and gets in a shot to the body. They're back to the clinch again, but this time Calvancante is able to get Melendez down to the mat, and Melendez pulls guard. Calvancante attempts a pass, but Melendez defends it with some punches, and Calvancante goes back to think again. Melendez launches himself to try and get a guillotine, but he has nowhere near the leverage he needs, and Calvancante swats it away. They end up with nothing happening on the ground, so the referee stands them up. And that's all we've got, the fight will go to the judges. Judge #1 scored it 30-27 to Gesias Calvancante Judge #2 scored it 29-28 to Gesias Calvancante Judge #3 scored it 30-27 to Gesias Calvancante Winner: Gesias Calvancante by Unanimous Decision Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. MATT HUGHES vs. DIEGO SANCHEZ Welterweight Division Round One Sanchez springs out of the blocks and connects with a solid right hand that rocks Hughes on the jaw, Hughes gets a couple of body shots in, but they're pretty weak, and Hughes really looks affected by that hard right he took. Sanchez and Hughes exchange punches, and its Sanchez again that the strikes favour, he gets a shot in to the side of the head of Hughes, and Hughes may have been hurt by that too. They clinch, Hughes possibly just looking to avoid any more hard shots to the head. The referee seperates them, but even then Hughes doesn't do very much. The round ends, Sanchez a clear winner. Round Two Hughes goes for his punches first this time, but Sanchez avoids them. Hughes goes for a hard left, but Sanchez counters with a right hook that catches Hughes above the eye, the third hard right hand that has caught Hughes. They head to the centre and exchange punches, but again Sanchez catches Hughes with a right hand to the side of the head, and if Hughes isn't careful he's going to get knocked out soon. They clinch, but the referee seperates them again. Sanchez goes for some bombs, throwing wild right hands that would put Hughes down if they connected. They clinch again, Hughes happy to use grappling to foil Sanchez's big punches. The round ends, Sanchez's striking will give him that round as well. Round Three Sanchez comes out with some jabs that don't connect, Hughes responds with a low kick to the thigh. Sanchez grabs a leg and pushes Hughes back enough to get a takedown next to the fence, but Hughes is in full guard. Sanchez goes to pass, and when that fails, he tries to get an arm for a kimura, but Hughes defends. Sanchez overshoots in his attempt, and Hughes is almost able to spin out and get his back, but Sanchez traps one of Hughes' legs and falls back to get back on the ground. Time runs out after they spend a significant amount of time in the guard position, and we're going to the judges once more. Judge #1 scored it 29-27 to Diego Sanchez Judge #2 scored it 30-27 to Diego Sanchez Judge #3 scored it 30-27 to Diego Sanchez Winner: Diego Sanchez by Unanimous Decision Rating: ** Joe Rogan goes to have a chat with our winner.
Rogan: I'm with Diego Sanchez, Diego, what a great victory for you, probably the biggest of your career. Sanchez: Absolutely, there's not many people who can put a win over Matt Hughes on their record, but I'm one of them. Rogan: What do you think it was that was the difference? Sanchez: Um... probably my striking game, I think I caught him with some good shots three or four times in the first two rounds. I went out swinging in the second to finish it, but when the third came around I just wanted to hold on. Rogan: Great job, Diego, best of luck for the future. If I can also get a word with Matt Hughes, Matt, unlucky man, what went wrong? Hughes: Um... you know he caught me with that big punch right at the start, and it kinda scrambled my gameplan a bit, I lost my focus and went after him with strikes which was just a bad idea. Rogan: Where do you go from here? Hughes: I'm not sure Joe, I've never lost two in a row before, maybe my time's coming to an end, I know I said that after I lost to Georges, but there are guys out there now like Diego, like Jon Fitch, like Karo Parisyan who are the future of the welterweight division, I've gotta see what I've got left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. NATE DIAZ vs. CLAY GUIDA Lightweight Division - Tournament Quarter Final Round One Guida comes out fastest with some quick jabs, and then charges at Diaz to get him back at the fence. Diaz tries a trip, but it goes nowhere, so he throws a scorching right hand which barely misses Guida. Guida gets a clinch, but Diaz is able to get hold of Guida at the side and tries a variation of a suplex, and Guida is on the mat. Guida pulls guard, but Diaz is able to pass that to half guard ridiculously easily. Diaz is in a great position here, there's a big right hand to the face, one more hits the jaw, and one more hits the nose! Punch after punch is raining down, some missing, but most connecting, and the referee has seen enough, this one is all over! Diaz is the winner, Guida had no defence left. They eventually clinch, where Lawler hits a knee to the hip of Lindland, but Lindland gets a trip and Lawler lands hard on the mat. Lindland tries to step through to a mount position, but can't get through, so goes for an armbar instead. Lawler almost gets an armbar of his own as Lindland reaches through, but Lindland stops that. Lindland settles for a half guard, but Lawler ties him up, which is how the round will end. A close one, but Lindland had control from that takedown. Round Two Lawler leads with a right hand and hits a low kick, and both men throw jabs that don't quite connect. They clinch and Lindland backs Lawler up to the cage, where Lawler connects with a knee to the ribs. A right hand from Lawler gets through, and Lindland decides to back off and try and get a takedown away from the fence. Lindland fires three quick jabs that don't connect, but a crashing right hook to the body does. Lindland goes for a right cross that misses, BANG! Out of nowhere, Lawler connects with a huge high kick to the head! Lindland is down and Lawler is being stopped from following up, Lindland is out cold! What a kick that was, nobody saw that coming. Joe Rogan's going to go and talk to Robbie Lawler.
Rogan: Robbie Lawler, what a kick man! Lawler: It sure was Joe, it sure was. I just saw the opportunity and tried to get hold of it the best I could, I think I caught him more than I could of hoped to. Rogan: You've been out of the octagon for a while, how does it feel being back? Lawler: It's great being back Joe, I've gotta say it was never my only goal to come back, but it's nice to be here and I'm hoping I can get the title that evaded on my last stay.
Winner: Robbie Lawler by KO (Kick) - 4:50 of Round Two Rating: *** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. SPENCER FISHER vs. SHINYA AOKI Lightweight Division - Tournament Quarter Final Round One The two men trade blows to start with, before Aoki sees a body shot coming and uses it to take Fisher down, but Fisher ends up more against the cage than the mat, and defends by wrapping his legs around Aoki's arm. Aoki's only option to attack is some back fists to the face, but Fisher can block them. The ground battle eventually ends in a stalemate as neither of them have any options with their positioning. They are stood up, but there's nothing else to do before the round ends. Aoki will take it purely for the takedown. Round Two Both men circle, Fisherr being more tentative so as not to get taken down again, They trade blows, but again Fisher over-commits to a punch and Aoki is straight in with another takedown, this time he needs to do something with it. Some jabs to the head get Aoki to a guard, and he goes for a neck vice, but Fisher gets his arms in position to defend it. Fisher gets some shots in from the ground but they're fairly tame, and Aoki responds by attempting to drive some elbows to the jaw of Fisher, but they don't connect. The referee stands them up, not enough action on the ground. They try to trade punches again but none connect. The round ends, another takedown from Aoki will get it for him. Round Three Very, very slow start to the round, Fisher is trying to work an angle, unfortunately so is Aoki so we're at a stalemate. Aoki eventually breaks the deadlock by attempting to take Fisher down for the third time, but Fisher stops him, using the cage to remain standing, and goes for a knee to the ribs of Aoki. Aoki is in no rush to try and get Fisher down, he's happy to keep things in a clinch to take the round and the match. Fisher tries a knee to try and get something back, but Aoki responds with a jab that hits the nose of Fisher, and goes in looking for a trip, but Fisher responds with a straight right. Aoki clinches again, and the clock is running down, and time is running out for Fisher. The round is over, we're going to the judges... They circle, throw some punches at each other, but nothing comes of it. They circle again, throw some punches, and nothing comes of it. Let's try again, no punches connect, and they clinch. Knee to the ribs from Evans, Griffin stomps the foot, but Evans catches Griffin with an elbow that leaves a slight nick under the eye of Griffin. Evans backs off, and Griffin comes out with an attempted high kick that Evans blocks with his arm. Griffin attempts a straight left, but Evans counters with a jab that catches Griffin on the nose. The round ends, a close one, but Evans will take thre round. Round Two Evans comes on the attack first, backing Griffin up against the cage, but Griffin gets a couple of shots in to the ribs. Griffin tries a trip, but Evans blocks it, and backs off to keep the fight standing up. Evans comes in looking for a jab, but Griffin ducks and unloads with a vicious uppercut that catches Evans on the jaw, and Evans is down quickly! Griffin follows up just as quickly, and here come some rapid-fire punches, some being blocked by Evans but some getting through to the temple, and the referee has called it off! Griffin takes the win! And our winner is with Joe Rogan.
Rogan: I'm here with Forrest Griffin, Forrest, incredible win, nice uppercut to draw things to a close. Griffin: Yeah Joe, I'm really pleased with that, to be honest I think I got kinda lucky, I caught him just in the right place with enough power, and down he went. Rogan: This fight is being touted by many as being the fight to decide who the next big challenge will be for Quinton Jackson's Light Heavyweight title... Griffin: I've gotta be the number one contender now! Man, if I'm not I don't know what I've gotta do! Rashad came into this fight undefeated, he's a hell of a fighter, but he went down to Forrest Griffin, and I don't think you've gotta look too far to find Rampage's next challenger. Rogan: So you'd be up for a title fight? Winner: Forrest Griffin by TKO - 3:20 of Round 2 Rating: ** Griffin: Absolutely, any time man, any time!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vs. RANDY COUTURE vs. FEDOR EMELIANENKO Heavyweight Division Round One Couture throws the first punch, a jab with very little behind it. Fedor comes back with two shots that don't connect, but delivers a hard kick to the thigh of Couture. They hit the centre of the ring to exchange strikes, and they end up clinching. Fedor with a knee to the ribs, and then a second. The clinch ends up at the fence with Couture nearest the cage. Fedor tries to get an arm free to get some shots in, but Couture has him tied up. Fedor finally gets an arm free enough to get a shot in to the cheek, but Couture soon ties it back up. Fedor breaks off and gets a shot to the nose of Couture as the round comes to an end, Fedor will take that one thanks to his more aggressive nature. Round Two Couture comes out strong, hitting a low kick to the calf of Fedor and moving in to hit a shot to the body. Fedor backs off, allowing Couture to press him against the cage. Theres a clinch, and they attempt trips, before Fedor connects with a knee to the ribs. Fedor gets another knee in to break the clinch, but Couture fires a huge uppercut on his way back, and it connects with the chin of Fedor! Couture hits a right hand and it connects hard on the side of the head, and FEDOR IS DOWN! Couture follows up with a barrage of right hands, Fedor is doing his best to cover up, but one gets through and catches him right on the eye socket, Couture stops throwing, FEDOR IS KNOCKED OUT! RANDY COUTURE HAS KNOCKED OUT FEDOR EMELIANENKO!!! Joe Rogan is straight into the octagon to interview our winner!
Rogan: Randy Couture, you've just knocked out Fedor Emelianenko in the biggest fight in history, how do you feel? Couture: Joe, it's amazing, man this was always gonna be the biggest fight of my career, the biggest fight of all time, and I come out of it as a winner by KO, Randy Couture beats Fedor Emelianenko. Amazing, just amazing. Rogan: Talk us through this uppercut... Couture: Well he was just breaking off, I thought I had a shot and I took it, caught him right on the jaw... here's the second one that knocked him down, and from there I knew this might be my only chance, there was loads of time left, but I needed to get it done, and... there it is, that's the strike that knocked him out, I was gonna throw another but I felt his arms go limp around me, there was no need for any more damage. Rogan: What's next for Randy Couture? Couture: I want my belt back man! I gave up the belt when I was having contract problems, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira took it, now I want a fight with him, should be a great contest, but I've proved I can beat the best in the world tonight.
Winner: Randy Couture by KO (Ground Stike) - 2:22 of Round 2 Rating: **** -------------------------------------------- Some insanely low ratings, but I gained popularity in all 58 regions it was broadcast in, so I guess I'm finally doing something right!
