From the Q&A.
Will an editor be released so that people can start working on writing real-world databases before the game comes out? I am pleased to be able to announce that TEW08 comes complete with an in-built TEW07->TEW08 database converter. Therefore, when the game is released, you can literally plug your favourite TEW07 database in, have it converted in a matter of seconds, and go straight into a new game with it. Obviously some editing will need to be done on the database to achieve optimal results (i.e. to take advantage of new additions), but you will instantly get a playable database out of it. Therefore, there will be no waiting after the release of the game until the first real world database is available. __________________
My question, after rereading and for some reason not being able to find what I thought I seen previously. Is there going to be an "Editor" only release before the game itself comes out? Or... Will the "Try before you Buy" version be out before the release (as ussual)? For some reason I thought there was going to be an editor, similar to what WMMA had (where you could fill in almost all the editor/mod type things). I might be wrong, or I might have forgotten where I read it at. The reason I'd like to know, is would it be beneficial for mod maker's to just use the 2007 game, and transfer (as the Q&A has suggested) data after the release? Or will there be a more efficient way of adding data (especially the new features) into the Mod before the games release?

why would you need an editor only release? If you can import data over without cause for changing like with previous version, what purpose would it serve? Why not just wait for the game to be released? 2ndly.. If an "editor only" version were made, what would really be the point? You make your database, then what? If the game isn't out, you can't play it. Which would likely make people bored.

I think the purpose would be to edit some things that might be made more accurate in 08, like personalities or Bad Blood. The point would be to be able to have the modders pretty much done with the mods on day 1 (sans testing). You make your database, then you wait a week or so for the game (or even demo) to come out.

i don't think theres going to be an editor out just because the simple fact u can switch over all ur data and then just edit the new stats and make sure everythings good...to me i think it really is lame to make all ur data on 07 and switch over just so u can go and redo probably most of ur work again in the 08 database. but oh well atleast u got most things done hopefully

For me to turn my War Of The Immortals data from 07 to 08 is going to require some hardcore changes (and a few thousand freakin' slider bars), and a month or so head start with an editor would be great.

You don't have to use the new personality features. You can continue with the original version with the default style settings from 07 in place if you choose. This is from his own diary. You don't HAVE to really do anything to it. If you choose to, you can. But the database if left unaltered from 07 is FAR from unplayable. It's not like with porting over to 05 from 04 where you had to change all sorts of stuff to really have a playable database. You can effectively "plug and play" here. So what would warrant some stand alone editor? And with the fact that you can import data in tact and start a fresh game with it like nothing happened, changes would really take little time. Unless you CHOOSE to obsess over details like the sliders.

Michael, I think you're still totally missing the point. The editor would be for those that DO want to make it a complete mod by editting all the personality stuff. You're not breaking any news by saying that any mod converted from 07 to 08 will be playable. The really good mods seem to be the ones that have a lot of detail, so for a modder to just throw away any new features in 08 would be stupid. But if you just want to convert and play what would now be an incomplete mod, go ahead. Some people would like to play a full mod on day one. I also don't see why you're complaining. You don't have to use it, so how would it affect you? This is something I don't get. I realize that there are some features that would take this or that away from the game, and so people debate over them. But for this to be debated? It's pointless. It seems like you're arguing just for the sake of it. There are better things to debate over in this forum, and this editor is just totally up to Adam.

But if you can use the editor to make the data, why not have the game so you can play it later as well? Seems like people are just nitpicking over every little detail now. I mean, is it really THAT important? That the entire gaming world needs to have a mod THAT day? Some people are just too impatient. We're all working on mods. Adam has enough work on his hands on developing the game. He doesn't need to be spending extra time developing a standalone editor. Let him focus on the game.

Michael, I'm not asking for there to be one. I'm asking if there is going to be one or if there isn't going to be one. I thought I read somewhere, in one area or another that Adam said he was going to have one. I thought it was in the Q&A, but have not seen it upon rereading that. I'm not saying "Hey, if there is not one planned, could you do one?" or anything like that. I'm just asking "Will there be one or not?" Are there plans already, or not?

From memory I believe TEW07 had an editor released before the trial and I know that WMMA did too. I have no idea if TEW08 will have an editor released early (and I'm on the dev team) so read into that what you will. History suggests that it's possible and is something that mod makers would certainly approve of (that includes me :)). I can't wait to bring the Cverse97 up to date with the new features that have been included, it'll be getting a nice update at some point and if we get an editor before the game is released you know I'll be working on trying to get it ready for release day. :D
