Interface and compatibility.

Recommended Posts

Really excited to see a new TEW in the works since I love the previous games. My two questions are these: I'm a casual fan who is really in to the idea of these games. I love managment sims and love wrestling so combing the two is awesome. I bought TEW2007 and really enjoyed it. That said I can't play it much since I have Vista and it just doesn't want to work properly on Vista. Crashes galore and corruption of the explorer shell occur when running it for too long and so without XP it's a real pain. (tried every trick on the support forums and a few of my own all to no avail.) Still, I don't regret the purchase since on XP it runs perfectly and is fantastic fun. So my first question is how will TEW08 run on Vista? It's a big deal to me since I don't often have access to XP at home. I read that it will be "more" compatible but does that mean the crashing and shell corruption have been eliminated entirely or does it just hold off the enivitable for longer periods? My second question is about the interface. With games like these where so much information is being presented and is there to be manipulated an intuitive interface is difficult to create. I found TEW2007 lacking in some areas here. I found myself backtracking pages to check if someone was a heel or face and with split brands you can't filter out who is on each when doing the initial booking for a show (I believe) and so and so. There are other issues I find difficult as well. I also find that storylines are difficult to make and often vague on information as to who to place in each segment. Ultimatley it takes a long time to book even one show and can become frustrating so I want to know if TEW08 will feature a more intuitive system. Those are my main points right now. I want to also stress that I LOVE the series and these gripes are just that. I love the overall product and the attention to detail and features are just fantastic and the fact that these games are programmed by one guy and have this level of quality is mind blowing. So I'm not bashing at all just want to get some information on these points.
So my first question is how will TEW08 run on Vista? It's a big deal to me since I don't often have access to XP at home.
It should perform better under Vista, but it will not completely eliminate crashes as that simply isn't possible without switching to an entirely new language and writing the game from scratch; the Vista operating system doesn't handle memory allocation well, so no matter how well TEW is programmed eventually you will run out of memory and get a crash (shell corruption is due to the lack of memory, it isn't a separate issue). The game has been programmed specifically to reduce memory usage to the absolute lowest level required, in metaphorical terms there isn't an ounce of excess fat to be found anywhere in the code, so what you will experience is the best possible performance it can give without actively sacrificing features. The advice is still to try before you buy though. As always, the trial version is the exact same thing as the full game, so there's nothing hidden from you; if you get crashes while playing the demo at a frequency that is too high for you, you shouldn't purchase it.
