WCW-Monday Night Wars: Montreal Aftermath '98

Recommended Posts

I'm playing the Montreal Aftermatch mod, with the edits made by justtxyank. I've already glossed over December and had a few brief feuds, I'll be starting my "diary" with the first Nitro of 1998. It just happens to be the night after StarrCade as well. My roster is as-follows: MAIN-EVENT: Bret Hart (F) Curt Hennig (H) *WCW United States Champion* Diamond Dallas Page (F) Hollywood Hogan (H) Kevin Nash (H) *WCW Tag Champion* Lex Luger (F) Randy Savage (H) Raven (H) Ric Flair (F) Scott Hall (H) *WCW Tag Champion* Sid Vicious (H) Sting (F) *WCW World Champion* The Big Show (F) UPPER-MIDCARD: Booker T (F) Buff Bagwell (H) Chavo Guerrero Jr. (H) Chris Jericho (F) Davey Boy Smith (F) Eddie Guerrero (H) Goldberg (F) Konnan (H) Meng (H) Perry Saturn (H) Rey Mysterio Jr. (F) *WCW Television Champion* Rick Steiner (F) Scott Norton (H) Scott Steiner (F) Stevie Ray (F) The Barbarian (H) William Regal (H) MIDCARD: Alex Wright (F) Billy Kidman (H) Brian Knobbs (F) Chris Kanyon (H) Dean Malenko (F) Disciple (H) Disco Inferno (F) El Dandy (H) *WCW Cruiserweight Champion* Fit Finlay (F) Hugh Morrus (H) Jerry Saggs (F) Jim Duggan (F) Johnny Grunge (H) Juventud Guerrera (F) nWo Sting (H) Psicosis (H) Ray Traylor (F) Riggs (H) Rocco Rock (H) Sick Boy (H) Stevie Richards (H) Ernest "The Cat" Miller (H) Ultimo Dragon (F) Van Hammer (H) Wrath (H) LOWER-MIDCARD: Barry Darsow (H) Glacier (F) Kenny Kaos (F) La Parka (F) Norman Smiley (F) Silver King (H) Super Calo (F) The Renegade (F) Yuji Nagata (H) OPENER: Lodi (H) Louie Spicolli (H) Prince Iaukea (H) Robbie Rage (F) Scott Armstrong (F) Steve Armstrong (F) Villano IV (H) Villano V (H) Yoshihiro Tajiri (H) JOBBER: Johnny Swinger (H) Shoichi Funaki (F) OCCASIONAL WRESTLER: Brad Armstrong (H) Jim Neidhart (F) Roddy Piper (F) Virgil (H) MANAGER: Arn Anderson (F) Rick Rude (H) Sonny Onoo (H) Ted DiBiase (H) AUTHORITY FIGURE: Eric Bischoff (H) J.J. Dillon (F) Ted Turner (F) PERSONALITY: Elizabeth (H) Gene Okerlund (F) Jimmy Hart (H) Kimberly Page (F) Teddy Long (H) ...if it wasn't already clear, (F) is for Face & (H) is for Heel. My writing will be pretty minimalistic: I won't be doing in-depth play-by-plays or scripts for promos. For the most part, I'll just touch on the basic style and story of the match, mentioning the key spots throughout. Promos will also be given general overviews, with perhaps the odd killer line mentioned if I manage to think of anything good. My first Nitro of '98 will follows this, hopefully you're all interested...

WCW Nitro: Monday, Week 1, January '98 #1: Bischoff books Sting/nWo Sting (B+) Sting comes out, wearing his newly-won WCW World Championship. Speaking for the first time since adopting the "Crow" gimmick, he thanks the fans for their ongoing trust in and support of him. Eric Bischoff interrupts and books Sting in a match with the nWo "imposter" Sting, with the Title on-the-line, as the main-event for tonight. #2: Flair praises Bret (B) Ric Flair is being interviewed backstage and spends the entire interview praising WCW's latest talent, Bret Hart, for his win in his debut match over Randy Savage. #3: Malenko/Calo/Juvi vs. El Dandy & Villanos 4 & 5 (C) Basic 3 vs. 3 "2-out-of-3-falls" Lucha Libré match: fast-paced with many highspots and technical wrestling. Dean Malenko pins El Dandy in 6:44 for the winning fall. #4: Chris Jericho vs. Ultimo Dragon (C+) Another fast-paced, technical match with numerous acrobatic highspots: Ultimo pins Jericho with La Magistral in 12:18. #5: Jericho temper tantrum (C+) After his loss to Ultimo Dragon, Chris Jericho throws a temper tantrum, yelling and stomping outside the ring. #6: Los Guerreros vs. Harlem Heat (C+) Standard tag match between the two, fast-paced back-and-forth action. Stevie Ray pins Chavo Guerrero Jr. in 6:33 following a Heat Seeker. #7: Steiner Brothers argue (B-) Following their loss of the WCW Tag Titles at StarrCade last night, Rick & Scott argue between themselves over their loss. #8: Diamond Dallas Page vs. The Disciple (C-) DDP pins Disciple in 5:18 after hitting the Diamond Clash. Match wasn't very good, as DDP & Disciple don't have any chemistry whatsoever. Ted DiBiase managed to keep the match interesting with some good managing work at ringside. DDP came out of the match looking good. #9: Kimberly & Bagwell flirt (C+) Kimberly playfully, semi-mockingly flirts with Bagwell backstage. After she exits to celebrate DDP's win with her client, Buff Bagwell stops smiling and adopts a serious expression. #10: TV Title: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Perry Saturn (B) This is a StarrCade rematch, following Saturn losing the TV Title to Rey last night. A basic brawl with Rey hitting the occasional highspot. Saturn is disqualified in 4:36 for refusing to break the Rings of Saturn after Rey reaches the ropes. #11: Big Show rescues Rey Mysterio Jr. from Raven & Saturn (B) After Saturn's loss to Rey, his "boss" Raven runs in and the two of them begin to beat Mysterio Jr. down. Before too much damage can be done, The Big Show runs in and chases Raven & Saturn away, saving Rey from a serious beating. #12: Big Show challenges Raven (B) Backstage after saving Rey Mysterio Jr., The Big Show challenges Raven to a match. #13: Public Enemy & Nasty Boys fight (C-) Following last night's double disqualification, the two feuding tag teams run into each other and once again begin to brawl. Eventually, it spills out into the main arena, with the four brawlers crashing into the concession stand. With foodstuffs spilled everywhere, eventually the brawl is broken up by security. #14: Lex Luger vs. Virgil (C) A "showcase" match for Luger, with him mostly-dominating Virgil with power moves and occasional brawling. Lex won by submission in 5:33 with the Torture Rack. Luger & Virgil have very little chemistry, so the match felt awkward to the audience. Ted DiBiase, again, did some good managing work at ringside and Luger's perfomance stood out as being good. #15: Luger beaten down by nWo (B+) Lex Luger is celebrating his victory over Virgil in the ring, when Curt Hennig runs in with his manager Rick Rude and they proceed to beat Luger down. Ted DiBiase also jumps in and rouses his client Virgil, and the four nWo members brutally attack Luger. #16: Goldberg vs. Barry Darsow (C) Goldberg effectively squashes Darsow in 4:50, pinning him following a Jackhammer. Goldberg's perfomance stood out as being good. Goldberg is 10-0. #17: Davey Boy seeks revenge on Savage (B+) Davey Boy finds Randy Savage backstage and attacks his knee, saying it's revenge for when Savage attacked him in order to "send a message" to his brother-in-law Bret. Savage, still hurting from the Sharpshooter last night, immediately hits the floor and begins screaming in pain. #18: DiBiase & Outsiders challenge Steiners (B) The Outsiders are backstage with their manager Ted DiBiase, taunting the Steiners for their loss last night. They offer to give them their rematch for the Titles later tonight. #19: Ric Flair vs. Scott Norton (C+) Ric Flair, following his loss to Curt Hennig last night, faces off against another nWo member Scott Norton. Flair wins via disqualification in 3:50 when Buff Bagwell runs in and attacks him. #20: Bret saves Flair from nWo (B+) Ric Flair is being beaten down by Norton, Bagwell & Rude following his match with Bagwell. Bret Hart runs in and fends the nWo off, saving Flair from a beating. #21: Piper's Pit (B+) Roddy Piper interviews Hollywood Hogan via satellite, who claims to be recovering from last night's match with Sting. Hogan taunts Sting and vows that his reign as WCW World Champion will be over as soon as Hogan gets his rematch. #22: Tag Title: The Outsiders vs. Steiner Brothers (B+) A back-and-forth brawl between two teams ends when Scott Steiner, frustrated with the obvious bias shown by nWo referee Nick Patrick, slugs him and storms out of the ring, getting the Steiners disqualified in 11:56. Kevin Nash looked good out there. #23: World Title: Sting vs. nWo Sting (B) Sting dominates this match, with nWo Sting barely getting in any effective or sustained offense. nWo Sting taps out to the Scorpion Deathlock in 5:31. #24: Hogan attempts to jump Sting (B+) Almost immediately after his match is over, Hollywood Hogan attempts to blindside Sting. However, his attack fails and Sting manages to get the upperhand, sending Hogan reeling. Well, that's my first show for '98. I got a 42.17 rating for the TV broadcast.

I appreciate the views people, but remember that Posts giving feedback aren't just welcome...they're ALLOWED! I know that there's not exactly very much to go on, but I'm still working on the diary (it's my first one, isn't that obvious? Heh...) and its format, so I'm in kinda a rough "transitional" era right now. Suggestions are highly recommended. Any questions you have to ask about the on-air product are encouraged, too... WCW Saturday Night: Saturday, Week 1, January '98 -taped on Tuesday- #1: Davey Boy Smith & Jim Neidhart vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor (D+) A standard tag match, with all the Englishmen engaging in technical wrestling and Neidhart mostly hitting power moves. Neidhart pins Taylor with a Powerslam in 8:57 following a hot tag. #2: nWo attacks Davey & Neidhart (C+) Immediately after their match, the victory celebrations of Davey Boy Smith & Jim Neidhart are interrupted by the nWo: a limping Randy Savage leads Ted DiBiase, Virgil & Scott Norton on the attack. Neidhart is held back by Norton while Virgil, DiBiase & Savage beat down on Davey Boy, culminating with Savage punching Davey Boy in the face with brass knuckles and screaming obscenities at him. #3: La Parka vs. Hugh Morrus (C+) Filler comedy match that, for the most part, is just there to entertain the crowd with La Parka's dancing shenanigans. La Parka pins Hugh Morrus in 4:46 with a Sky Twister Press. #4: Faces of Fear vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. & Super Calo (D+) Almost a squash, the Faces of Fear-particularly Meng-spend the majority of the match beating down on the cruiserweights, brawling outside the ring and throwing them into the ringpost, guardrails, ramp etc. Rey Mysterio Jr. was somewhat slowed by a minor injury. After dominating Rey for a few minutes and preventing numerous tags-with The Barbarian making numerous illegal double-teams and assists-Meng pins Rey with a Superkick in 5:47. #5: Jericho taunts Rey (B-) Rey Mysterio Jr is staggering back down the aisle following the utter beating he suffered at the hands of the Faces of Fear. Chris Jericho is preparing to make the entrance for his match and taunts Rey about his loss, sneering and mocking his [lack] of stature. Rey looks displeased, but is in no shape to do anything about it. #6: Chris Jericho vs. El Dandy: WCW Cruiserweight Championship (C+) A great back-and-forth display of high-flying aerobatics and technical wizardry between the two, albeit for the most part with Jericho easily winning and Dandy only managing to hold his own with his Rudo tactics. After hitting the Double Lionbomb Jericho attempts to hit the Lionsault for the pin, but El Dandy manages to pull down the middle rope as Jericho tries to springboard off it and causes him to crash violently and suddenly into the turnbuckle. Jericho collapses to the mat, clutching his knee and screaming in pain. El Dandy quickly rolls out of the ring, grabs his belt and stumbles up the aisle, taking a cheap Count Out loss after 5:44. #7: Jericho attacks referees (C+) Following his possible injury and "victory" over the Cruiserweight Champion, Jericho starts pulling himself to his feet with the ropes. Referees Charles Robinson & Mark Curtis attempt to assist and inform him that while he won the match, El Dandy retains the Title as a result of the Count Out. Jericho mouths "bull****!" and shoves the two referees down, storming off and limping up the aisle. #8: Raven attacks Juvi (C+) Juvi is in the ring, waiting for his match with Raven. Suddenly, the lights go out and when they turn back on, Raven is behind Juvi. He low-blows the luchador, slams his head into the turnbuckle and throws him over the top rope to the outside. Raven then tears away the protective mat and hits the Raven Effect DDT on Juvi, driving his head into the concrete. Juvi lies motionless on the floor, and Raven grabs the mic... #9: Raven declines challenge (B+) Raven, while standing over the prone body of Juventud, declines the challenge made to him by The Big Show, claiming that he has no interest in doing to "that lumbering ogre" what he just did to Juvi. Raven walks off. #10: Goldberg squashes Silver King (D+) Another standard squash fare for Goldberg, helped by Silver King's luchadore overselling. Goldberg Spears a dazed Silver King and hits the Jackhammer in 2:56 for the pinfall. Goldberg & Silver King did not click in the match and it hampered their performance. Goldberg is 11-0. #11: Kimberly asks DDP about flowers (C+) Kimberly is sitting backstage trying to figure out who sent her a boquet of flowers. Diamond Dallas Page walks past and she asks him if he knows anything about them. DDP says he's never seen them before and doesn't know anything. #12: Sid hype video (C) A video is played over the TurnerTron, hyping the fact that Sid Vicious will soon be working in WCW. #13: Flair thanks Bret (B) Flair, sitting down backstage, cuts a promo where he thanks Bret Hart for saving him from the nWo beatdown on Nitro earlier in the week. #14: Sting/Hogan recap video (B+) A video plays over the TurnerTron, recapping the recent events between Sting & Hollywood Hogan, specifically Sting's comeback to WCW at StarrCade '97 and making Hogan submit to the Scorpion Deathlock to win the WCW World Championship. #15: The Outsiders vs. The Steiner Brothers: WCW Tag Championship (C+) Another average tag match between the two teams. Scott Steiner was counted out in 5:42 after suffering what appeared to be a mild injury, but seemed capable of getting back into the ring. Kevin Nash looked good out there. Overall: (C+) TV Rating: 21.39 I'm still working on trying to get my shows to set up into the next one, but it's still early days yet...

Hey! Yeah, I've been meaning to check out yours, it just keeps slipping my mind...I think WCW in '98 is popular simply because if WCW hadn't completely dropped the ball that year they may have actually beaten the WWF outright by the 21st century.
but remember that Posts giving feedback aren't just welcome...they're ALLOWED!
Best...promo...ever! Enjoying this, I like the straight to the point style, its a refreshing change of pace & should allow you to get a good history going. Should be interesting to see how the two WCW 1998 diaries progress.

Nice to have an attentive fan... As said earlier, though, I'm still experimenting with the format, so it might get more detailed...I'm never going to script an entire promo or do play-by-play for a whole match, however. Bobby Eaton, Steve McMichael & Dave Taylor have all been released from the company: I'm trying to cut down on my workers a bit, since I consider my roster to be entirely too bloated. WCW Nitro: Monday, Week 2, January '98 #1: Ted Turner announces Souled Out (D+) WCW Chairman Ted Turner opens up the show, standing in the ring and announcing that 2 weeks from now Souled Out will be on pay-per-view, co-presented by WCW and the nWo. #2: Ric Flair vs. Buff Bagwell (B) A standard rassilin' match, mostly a showcase for The Nature Boy and to prove that he can still "hang" with the younger talent. Flair pins Bagwell with a surprise Inside Cradle in 6:23. This match lifted the crowd. #3: Vicious & Delicious attack Flair (B+) As Ric Flair celebrates his victory over Buff Bagwell, his tag partner Scott Norton jumps into the ring and flattens him with a shoulderblock. Buff Bagwell springs back to his feet and starts putting the boots to Flair. After a brief beatdown, the two finish their attack: Norton puts Flair in a bearhug, as Buff hits his Buff Blockbuster. #4: Boogie Knights vs. Lodi & Van Hammer (C) Mostly a "comedy" match, with the Knights mugging for the crowd with their dance moves whenever they had the advantage. Alex Wright pinned Lodi with a Crossbody in 4:58. #5: Boogie Knights celebrate (D+) Following their victory over the members of Raven's Flock, Wright & Disco have a large dancing celebration in the middle of the ring. #6: El Dandy attacks Dean Malenko (C-) As Dean Malenko waits for his opponent in the ring, El Dandy appears seemingly from out-of-nowhere and blindsides Malenko. After a few rapid attacks, Malenko manages to counter and seize the advantage. El Dandy decides to retreat. #7: Faces of Fear vs. Chris Jericho & La Parka (C+) The Faces of Fear spent most of this match dominating La Parka, while Jericho "waited" on the apron seemingly without making any real effort to tag in. Eventually, La Parka manages to blind-tag Jericho in, who proceeds to taunt Meng while evading his offense. Eventually, Meng gets frustrated and proceeds to charge Jericho into the corner ringpost, brutally beating him down while The Barbarian contributes cheap-shots. Eventually, the referee has no choice but to call for the bell when Meng refuses to let Jericho out of the corner. #8: Jericho taunts Rey (B+) Despite barely being able to stand after the brutal beating he just took, Jericho grabs the mic and taunts Rey about how he was capable of pulling off what Rey's "12 year-old boy" self couldn't: beating the Faces of Fear in a tag match. #9: Nasty Boys vs. Los Guerreros (C+) A hot tag match between the two teams, with a significant portion of the match spent with the Los Guerreros attempting to have the referee disqualify the Nasty Boys for using illegal objects in the match: which were, of course, planted by the Guerreros. Eddie pinned Brian Knobbs after the Public Enemy ran in and attacked the Nasty Boys with cast-iron skillets. Eddie Guerrero's performance stood out as being good. #10: Ultimo Dragon vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.: TV Title (C+) A good, fast-paced, high-flying technical match between the two was abruptly ended in 13:48 when Chris Jericho ran in and, after a brief staredown, clotheslined Ultimo Dragon in full view of the referee, causing Rey to get disqualified. Jericho smirked and taunted Rey Mysterio as he walked back up the aisle. Rey remained in the ring, staring at Jericho with an unhappy expression. #11: Public Enemy vs. Steiner Bros. (B-) A ruthless brawl with brutally stiff punches and clotheslines thrown, both teams were already sporting serious bruising when the Nasty Boys ran in and attacked the Public Enemy with steel chairs, causing Nick Patrick to disqualify Rick Steiner at the 4:01 mark. Scott Steiner's performance stood out as being good, while Johnny Grunge was really off his game tonight. #12: Steiner Bros. argue (C-) As the Steiners leave the ring following their DQ loss to the Public Enemy, Scott begins to blame Rick for their loss, eventually asking Rick outright why he didn't "make sure that those sloppy, brawler trash didn't interfere in our match" and asks where his head has been of late. Rick protests, and Scott eventually relents, apologising. The two exit the arena together. #13: Raven and The Flock ambush The Big Show (B) Suddenly, the lights go out for a brief moment: when they turn back on, Raven is sitting in a chair in the middle of the ring with a mic in hand. He claims to have reconsidered his earlier judgment, and tells The Big Show to get in the ring and face him. The Big Show walks out and gets in the ring, staring Raven down. Suddenly, Sick Boy, Stevie Richards & Perry Saturn jump The Big Show, hammering away at him. Although he manages to fend them off, Raven attacks The Big Show with the chair and eventually beats him down to the mat, the attack culminating with Raven Pillmanising Big Show's right hand. #14: Raven taunts The Big Show (B+) Backstage, cameras have caught up with Raven, who laughs at the camera and mockingly asks Big Show how he's going to chokeslam people now. #15: Kimberly receives a note (D) Kimberly is backstage in her locker room, when she sees that a note is taped to her personal bags. She opens and reads it, looks upset and quickly leaves. #16: Goldberg vs. Ray Traylor (C) Another dominant "showcase" performance from Goldberg, he pinned Traylor with the Jackhammer in 2:38. The match suffered because there was not enough selling shown, but Goldberg's performance stood out as being good. #17: Davey Boy Smith vows revenge on Randy Savage (C+) A hospital room is displayed on the TurnerTron, with Gene Okerlund interviewing the bedridden Davey Boy Smith. Smith says that this is the second time that Savage has put him in the hospital, so he vows to settle the score and get revenge for his injuries: in a match at WCW/nWo Souled Out! #18: Konnan vs. Lex Luger (B) A fairly even contest between the two had its tides tip in Konnan's favour when Curt Hennig interfered, hit Luger with the US Title Belt and Konnan capitalised, getting the victory via pinfall in 3:35. This match lifted the crowd. #19: Rude instructs Hennig to beat down Luger (B+) Lex Luger, holding the back of his head and wondering what just happened in his last match, hears Rick Rude yell out "Now!" and turns around to once again get hit with Hennig's US Title Belt. Hennig continues to whip him with the strap, his assault culminating with a vicious choke attack. Hennig & Rude walk away laughing as a bloodied Luger gasps for breath and paramedics rush to tend to him. #20: Sid hype video (C) Another music video hyping the impending arrival of Sid Vicious is shown, this one focusing on his previous tenure within the company. #21: Hennig attacks a stretchered Luger (B+) Lex Luger is placed on a stretcher and wheeled out of the arena, when suddenly Curt Hennig appears again and pushes the stretcher into the guardrail, putting the boots to Luger again before being chased off by officials. #22: Diamond Dallas Page vs. Randy Savage (A*) The usual fantastic match between the two, a wild brawl was quickly cut short by a surprise attack on the Macho Man from an obviously still-injured Davey Boy Smith. This match lifted the crowd. #23: Davey Boy interrupts Savage's celebration (B+) Savage, now backstage, overstates his victory over DDP when he is blindsided by a chairshot from Davey Boy Smith. #24: Teddy Long manages Harlem Heat (C+) Teddy Long walks out to the ring and says that, after much deliberation, he's signed a new tag team: Harlem Heat! Booker T & Stevie Ray run down to the ring and exchange handshakes and a group hug with Teddy Long. Teddy Long is now a face. #25: Piper's Pit: Bret Hart (A*) Bret Hart is tonight's guest on Piper's Pit, who talks about his experiences after recently debuting in WCW. This segment lifted the crowd. #26: Harlem Heat vs. The Outsiders (B) A brawl between the two teams, very evenly matched. Kevin Nash came out of this match looking good. Stevie Ray quickly pinned Kevin Nash in 11:44 with a handful of tights after a belt shot while Teddy Long distracted Nick Patrick. This match lifted the crowd. #27: Harlem Heat & Teddy Long celebrate (B) Having just won the WCW Tag Titles in what had to be considered an upset, Harlem Heat and Teddy Long celebrate in the ring, hoisting their manager on their shoulders while Teddy holds the newly-won championship belts. #28: J.J. Dillon signs Sting & Hogan for Souled Out (B+) J.J. Dillion presides over a contract signing between Hogan & Sting, for a WCW World Title rematch between the two at Souled Out. After Sting signs, Hogan blindsides him and busts him open, signing the contract in Sting's blood. Overall: (B+) TV Rating: 41.12

I enjoy the diary, but I have three questions. 1) Why do you use Ted Turner on TV?? 2) The Piper's Pit is a WWF Trademark, so WCW would get sued if they used it. or? 3) Why do you have Paul Wight as "The Big Show"? wasn't he The Giant in WCW?

Ted Turner always whinges that he hasn't been used on enough shows: I know it's just an oversight in the game AI, but I'd rather NOT piss off my owner. As for the other two, they're just a personal preference thing.

WCW Saturday Night: Saturday, Week 2, January '98 #1: Cruiserweight 6-Pack Challenge: Dean Malenko vs. Juventud Guerrera vs. Psicosis vs. Silver King vs. Brad Armstrong vs. Super Calo (C+) A 6-Pack Challenge for the #1 Contendership for the Cruiserweight Title was won by Dean Malenko in 5:42 when Juventud Guerrera submitted to the Texas Cloverleaf. The match was filled with numerous highspots. #2: El Dandy ambushes Dean Malenko (C-) As Malenko is celebrating his victory and new #1 Contender status, El Dandy sneaks into the ring and clocks Dean with the Cruiserweight title, leaving him down and out on the mat. #3: Chris Kanyon & Wrath vs. Glacier, Ray Traylor & The Renegade (D-) A Hardcore Handicap Tag match, Wrath spent the majority of this match dominating the other team, with Kanyon only tagging in to get cheap shots against fallen oppoents. Kanyon pinned Traylor in 4:33 after Wrath had brutalised him with a steel chair, getting the dirty win with a handfull of tights. Kanyon & Wrath both looked good out there. #4: Bischoff books Sting/Kevin Nash (B) The cameras cut to Eric Bischoff walking backstage, who encounters Sting & Nash arguing in a corridor. Before it gets physical, Bischoff books the two of them in a match, with Sting's World Title on the line! Nash grins while Sting just stares right through Bischoff. #5: Chris Jericho "challenges" Rey Mysterio Jr. (C+) Jericho swaggers out to the ring, microphone in hand and challenges Rey Mysterio to a match RIGHT NOW, despite the announcers already informing us that Rey isn't in the building tonight. Instead, Ultimo Dragon's music hits and he enters the ring, wanting revenge against Jericho for costing him the TV Title on Nitro earlier this week. Jericho freaks, but Dragon jumps him and the match begins! #6: Chris Jericho vs. Ultimo Dragon (C+) Another fast-paced, high-spot filled, technical match that we've come to expect from the two. Jericho regularly bent the rules and argued with referee Randy Anderson in this match, eventually managing to get a cheap pinfall in 6:39 while his feet were on the ropes. Jericho quickly exits after his win. #7: Kimberly gets stalked (F+) Kimberly is nervously walking backstage, regularly checking behind her. After she reaches her dressing room door and enters, a shadowy figure emerges from hiding and runs off. #8: Teddy Long hypes Harlem Heat (E-) T'Lo is backstage with his new clients Harlem Heat, who are showing off their newly-won Tag Team Championships. He claims that they would've given The Outsiders their rematch TONIGHT but Scott Hall didn't have the guts to show up, so they'll save it for Souled Out next week. #9: Faces of Fear vs. Davey Boy & Neidhart (C-) A hardcore tag match that Meng dominated, taking everything that Davey Boy & Neidhart had while barely getting fazed. The Barbarian capitalised on interference from Randy Savage, hitting the distracted Davey Boy Smith with a Savate Kick and pinning him in 4:50. #10: Schiavone interviews Bret (B) Schiavone conducts a standard interview with Bret Hart backstage. #11: Elizabeth & Randy Savage taunt Davey Boy Smith (D-) Elizabeth & Randy Savage sit in their dressing room backstage, exchanging taunts directed at Davey Boy Smith. #12: Flair challenges Vicious & Delicious (B+) Flair comes out to the podium and sets a challenge for Vicious & Delicious: next week on Nitro they'll face himself and a mystery partner in a tag match. #13: Curt Hennig vs. Rick Steiner: US Title (C+) Not very much of a match, Hennig spent the majority of it stalling in any way possible to avoid actually having to lock up with Rick, whilst Hennig's manager Rick Rude distracted both Steiner and the referee in any way possible, regularly hitting Steiner when the referee was distracted. Eventually, a frustrated Scott Steiner runs in to help his brother and clocks Hennig with the US Championship belt, unfortunately in full view of the referee. Rick is disqualified at the 2:54 mark. #14: Sid appearance hype (C-) The announcers hype the fact that Sid Vicious will appear on Saturday Night next week. #15: Hennig taunts Luger about injury (B+) Hennig is now relaxing backstage, and cuts a promo where he viciously taunts and brags about causing Lex Luger's recent injuries. Rick Rude helped Curt Hennig in this segment. #16: Kevin Nash vs. Sting: World Title (B+) Sting defeated Kevin Nash via pinfall after a Scorpion Death Drop in 7:11, fending off numerous instances of attempted interference by Ted DiBiase during the match. This match lifted the crowd. #17: Harlem Heat save Sting from Hogan & Nash (B+) Celebrating his successful Title defense against Nash, Sting is blindsided by Hogan and the two nWo members begin to beat him down. However, Harlem Heat run in and chase the nWo off, saving Sting. Overall: (B) TV Rating: 26.08 Scott Hall missed this show, which I'm less than happy about. This is I think his 4th offense with this, so I fined him. Is he *ALWAYS* so consistently unreliable? Barry Darsow, Jeff Farmer, Ray Traylor & Michael Wallstreet have all been released. I still have way too many midcarders though...
Just on point 2, are you sure it is the legal property of the WWF? I'd just be surprised if Piper himself didn't come up with it. Interesting, but it'd be pretty easy to get around the name Piper's Pit with something a little different, I'm sure Roddy could host it well nonetheless. --- Good luck with the story. Personally, I find the flow of the show in the way it's presented a little hard to follow. Just seems to lack the fibre needed to get the stories across. But a WCW story is a WCW story so I'll be looking.

Just be thankful that he ain't turning up and then trying to vommit in the ring during a match after an all nighter.

I like the style, its what I started my (2001) WCW diary (which can be found here: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25831, although its fallen off the boards as I've been a lil busy and haven't got the next show up yet heh) with the idea of doing. I always felt that my job as a booker didn't entail scripting promos or laying out matches move for move, that was for the wrestlers themselves, but just getting the general jist and key points down. But I've gradually found myself adding more meat to the matches and stuff heh. My only suggestion would maybe be to find some way of differentiating matches and angles.

I just use a different colour for the text. But you can try italicising or bolding or indenting or whatever takes your fancy, just have a browse around a few diaries and copy/borrow whatever you think works/looks best heh :)

Well, I've slightly tweaked my formatting a bit, let's see if it works out at all... WCW Nitro: Monday, Week 3, January '98 #1: Goldberg vs. Brad Armstrong (B-) Goldberg pins Brad in 2:40 after hitting the Jackhammer. Goldberg is 14-0. #2: Bischoff bans Sting (B+) Eric Bischoff hits the ring, grabs the mic and informs the crowd that Sting has been barred from the building tonight, with security under orders to arrest him on-sight. #3: Norman Smiley, Boogie Knights & Funaki vs. Lodi, Riggs, Sick Boy & Van Hammer (D+) A tepid brawl between the face undercarders and The Flock members was brought to an end in 4:38 following a double disqualification: Riggs hit Funaki with a steel chair, only to get chokeslammed by an interfering Big Show shortly afterwards: subsequently, each member of The Flock also received a chokeslam of their own. The performance of Disco Inferno stood out as being good. Alex Wright came out of this match looking good. #4: The Big Show challenges Raven (B+) Big Show, standing over the defeated Flock members, challenges Raven to a match at Souled Out this Sunday. Raven comes out to the ramp and accepts: only on the condition that the match take place under Raven's Rules! Show agrees and stalks Raven back up the aisle. #5: Juventud Guerrera vs. Chris Jericho (C) An average match between the two was ended in 11:31 after Jericho pinned Juvi with his feet on the ropes. #6: Jericho taunts Juvi & Rey () Jericho takes a mic and stands over his fallen opponent, bragging about his "easy" victory and boasts that this is what he'll do to Mysterio, if Rey is ever man enough to accept his challenge...which might happen when he hits puberty: in 3 years! Again, the announcers stress that Rey is not in the building tonight. #7: Kimberly enlists DDP's help (B-) Kimberly, worried sick about her apparent stalker, enters DDP's locker room and asks him for protection. After hearing her story, he agrees and promises to look out for her from now on. #8: Rick Rude challenges the Steiner Bros. to face Curt Hennig & Konnan (B-) Curt Hennig & Konnan are in the ring with Rick Rude, who grabs a mic and challenges the Steiner Bros. to a match against this nWo tag team, since they're apparently incapable of beating The Outsiders. #9: WCW Tag Team Championship: Harlem Heat (c) vs. The Nasty Boys (C+) A straight-up brawl, Stevie Ray pinned Brian Knobbs in 5:48 after inadvertently capitalising on interference from the Public Enemy. Booker T looked good out there. #10: Harlem Heat save Nasty Boys from Public Enemy (B-) Following the Tag Title match, the Public Enemy continue to attack the Nasty Boys, until the champions Harlem Heat drive them off with beltshots. #11: Los Guerreros vs. Armstrong Bros. (C-) Despite the brevity of the match, Los Guerreros managed to include plenty of their trademark cheating shenanigans within. Chavo pinned Scott Armstrong clean in 2:55 with a Gory Bomb. Eddie Guerrero came out of this match looking good. #12: Steiners agree to Hennig/Konnan match (C+) Steiners are being interviewed backstage and accept Rude's challenge, agreeing to face off against Curt Hennig & Konnan later tonight. #13: Dean Malenko, Ultimo Dragon & Super Calo vs. Psicosis & Villanos 4 + 5 (C-) A standard lucha match between the two teams, with highspots and technical wrestling all around. The faces won in two straight falls, with the final fall occuring at 12:05 when Villano V submitted to Malenko's Texas Cloverleaf. #14: Dandy attempts to beatdown Malenko (C-) El Dandy tries to attack Malenko while he celebrates his victory, but once again he fails to get the upperhand on him. #15: Flair announces his mystery partner (B+) Ric Flair is backstage and says that he's now going to reveal his mystery partner for the upcoming tag match: and Bret Hart walks into frame. The two shake hands. #16: High Voltage vs. Faces of Fear (D+) The Faces of Fear dominated this match, with The Barbarian easily pinning Robbie Rage after a Savate Kick in 2:41. Robbie Rage was really off his game. The Faces of Fear looked good out there. #17: Public Enemy vs. Davey Boy & Neidhart[/] (C) Davey Boy pins Rocco Rock in 6:32 with the Running Powerslam. During the course of the match, the Nasty Boys ran in and attacked the Public Enemy but this wasn't a factor in the finish. #18: Savage attacks celebrating Davey Boy (B+) As Davey Boy is celebrating his win, Randy Savage runs in and beats him down: the attack culminating after Savage beats down Davey Boy with the ringbell. #19: Steiner Bros. vs. Curt Hennig & Konnan (C+) The majority of the match was spent displaying the lack of team coherency between the Steiners, with Scott wanting to spend the majority of the match as the legal man to the detriment of the team. While the Steiners were arguing over a tag and the referee was trying to separate them, Lex Luger snuck in and nailed an unsuspecting Hennig with a Bionic Forearm, allowing Scott to pin Curt in 8:25. Curt Hennig looked good out there. #20: Elizabeth challenges Davey Boy to face Savage (C+) Randy Savage is sitting backstage, while his manager Elizabeth challenges Davey Boy to face Savage at Souled Out this Sunday. #21: Sid: Up-Close & Personal (C-) A video is played over the TurnerTron, focusing on Sid Vicious, who is set to debut in the company within a week's time. #23: Vicious & Delicious vs. Ric Flair & Bret Hart (B-) Essentially a showcase for the two veterans, Ric Flair had Buff Bagwell submit to the Figure Four Leglock in 8:46. #24: Bret & Flair celebrate (B) After their victory, Bret & Flair celebrate in the ring, shaking hands. #25: Piper's Pit: Hogan-Sting runs in (B+) On the set of Piper's Pit, Hogan immediately grabs the mic away from the host and begins tearing into Sting: until he appears from seemingly out-of-nowhere and attacks Hogan with a baseball bat! Overall Rating: (C+) TV Rating: 41.79 The show's a little light on match content, but that's just 'cause it's PPV weekend, I guess...

Nobody wants to offer thoughts on anything? I'd like some more feedback if anyone's willing...also, my first PPV will be the next entry. Methinks I'll need to improve my build-up for the next one, since this was a little shaky... WCW Saturday Night: Saturday, Week 3, January '98 #1: Nature Boy challenges Hitman (B+) Ric Flair comes to the ring, mic in hand, praising Bret Hart for being his partner on Nitro against Vicious & Delicious. Flair then says that he'd love to have a good, old-school wrestling match with The Hitman at Souled Out this Sunday. Bret comes out and accepts the challenge, the two sealing the deal with a handshake. #2: Goldberg vs. Ernest Miller (C+) Goldberg utterly dominates, as expected. Pins The Cat in 2:51 with a Jackhammer. Goldberg is 15-0. #3: Rey requests match with Jericho (B-) Rey enters the office of J.J. Dillon and requests a match with Chris Jericho, claiming he needs it to defend his honour. Dillion accepts and books the match for Souled Out. #4: Steiner Bros. vs. Vicious & Delicious (B-) Though all workers performed to their usual standard, this match showed the deep rift between the Steiner Bros.: both men frequently avoided intended tags and deliberately made several "blind" ones. This miscommunication lead to Scott Norton pinning Rick Steiner in 7:06 after Rick Rude hit Rick Steiner with a chair. This match lifted the crowd. #5: Bischoff books Steiner Bros. (B-) Eric Bischoff enters the backstage dressing room of the Steiner Bros., who are in the midst of a heated argument. With a smirk, Bischoff tells them that they're better off saving their energy: as they'll have a match against each other at Souled Out! #6:Hennig challenges Luger: U.S. Title (B+) Curt Hennig challenges Lex Luger to a match, saying he'll even put the United States Championship on the line. #7: Kanyon & Wrath vs. Boogie Knights (D+) Wrath dominated this match, while Kanyon usually only tagged in to get cheap shots on downed opponents. Disco Inferno was pinned in 4:07 by Kanyon, after Wrath had flattened him. Kanyon illegally used the ropes for leverage. #8: Jericho demands a Title match (B) Jericho bursts into Bischoff's office, complaining about the match with Rey Mysterio Jr. that J.J. Dillon has made four Souled Out and demands that it be cancelled. Bischoff says that he won't cancel the match: instead, he'll make it for the TV Title! This seems to please Jericho. #9: Nasty Boys/Public Enemy announcement video (C) A video plays, hyping the No Disqualifications match at Souled Out between the Nasty Boys and the Public Enemy. #10: Raven DDTs Big Show into concrete (B+) The Big Show, hand in a cast, limps out and says that Raven can throw all the "Flocklings" he wants at him: come this Sunday at Souled Out The Big Show will beat him senseless. Raven suddenly appears, brutalising The Big Show with a crowbar. Raven tears up the protective mats and viciously spikes Big Show with the Evenflow DDT, driving his head into the concrete. Blood gushes from his head as Raven swaggers away. #11: Rey Mysterio Jr./Dean Malenko/Ultimo Dragon vs. Chris Jericho/El Dandy/Psicosis (C+) Rey, Malenko & Ultimo won this match in 5:45 two falls to one, coming back after initially losing the first fall. The final fall had Rey Mysterio pin Chris Jericho after hitting the West Coast Pop. #12: DiBiase orders Konnan & Virgil to attack Kidman (C+) Billy Kidman is lurking backstage, when suddenly Konnan and Virgil jump him, brutally beating him down while Ted DiBiase "directs traffic" from the sidelines. Kidman is left sprawled on the ground, a beaten mess, as the announcers condemn these actions. #13: Piper's Pit: Sid (C+) The debutant Sid Vicious appears as the guest on this edition of Piper's Pit. He introduces himself, saying he'll definitely make an impact in his return to WCW. #14: nWo taunts WCW (B+) Hollywood Hogan, Randy Savage & Curt Hennig are backstage in the nWo locker room, hurling insults at Sting, Davey Boy Smith & Lex Luger, vowing victory for the nWo in both the 10-man tag main event tonight and at Souled Out this Sunday. #15: WCW (Sting, Lex Luger, Harlem Heat, Davey Boy Smith) vs. nWo (Hollywood Hogan, Curt Hennig, The Outsiders, Randy Savage) (B-) A huge brawl between the two, completely involving the crowd with signature moves, poses and taunts. Hogan spent the majority of the match avoiding Sting, whilst Lex Luger/Curt Hennig and Davey Boy Smith/Randy Savage were at each others' throats the entire match. Curt Hennig submitted to Lex Luger's Human Torture Rack in 10:56. This match lifted the crowd. Lex Luger seemed off-his-game tonight. Overall Rating: (C+) TV Rating: 23.61 Well, that's my last show before WCW/nWo Souled Out so here's a "preview" of the PPV...an ad, if you will. Would you pay money to see this? Souled Out '98 Preview: WCW Championship: Sting (c) vs. Hollywood Hogan Ric Flair vs. Bret Hart WCW Tag Championship: Harlem Heat (c) vs. The Outsiders The Big Show vs. Raven Davey Boy Smith vs. Randy Savage WCW United States Championship: Curt Hennig (c) vs. Lex Luger Scott Steiner vs. Rick Steiner WCW Television Championship: Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. Chris Jericho Nasty Boys vs. Public Enemy: No DQ WCW Cruiserweight Championship: El Dandy (c) vs. Dean Malenko And of course, offer your predictions for the results.

Well it appears that nobody would buy that card...I jest, I jest. I think I'll be updating a little more frequently now, in a last-ditch effort to try and get a solid following...also, still tweaking with the formatting. Hopefully 'tis even more presentable! WCW/nWo Souled Out: Sunday, Week 3, January '98 #1: Goldberg vs. The Disciple (C+) The Disciple never stood a chance: after much stalling and desperately avoiding Goldberg by any means possible, Goldberg dominated for the rest of the match. Even interference from Ted DiBiase could not turn the tide in The Disciple's favour. Goldberg pins Disciple with the Jackhammer in 3:25. The match suffered because there was not enough selling shown. Goldberg came out of the match looking good. Goldberg is 16-0. #2: Ultimo Dragon/Juventud Guerrera/Super Calo/La Parka vs. Silver King/Prince Iaukea/Villano IV/Villano V (C) A "showcase" of most of the cruiserweights in WCW, an athletic, fast-paced high-flying match allowing all of its participants a chance to shine and show off what they can do. Mid-way through the match, Rey springboarded to the outside in an attempt to senton splash Jericho, but instead Rey crashed through an announcer's table, his spine colliding hard into the guardrail. Jericho worked Rey's back for the rest of the match, however Rey managed to rally at the 8 minute mark and eventually went for the West Coast Pop: but Jericho caught him during the headscissors, hit his double powerbomb and locked in his new "Walls of Jericho" submission move. Even the interference of Lodi & Stevie Richards was easily mitigated, with Big Show easily swatting them both aside. After repeated minor infractions between the two, Randy Anderson was rendered unconscious after Hogan used him as a shield from Sting's Stinger Splash. Immediately after the ref bump, Sid Vicious ran in and stood between the two contestants: before turning to Hogan, making the nWo "Too Sweet!" hand sign and attacking Sting. After hitting a powerbomb, Sting was left lying, but still managed to kick out of the Atomic Legdrop. As the referee came to, he saw Sting hit Hogan with a baseball bat and called for a double disqualification at 12:16. This match lifted the crowd. Overall Rating: (B-) PPV Buyrate: 9.62 I actually somewhat altered a few of my booking plans as I made this, but otherwise it's consistent. Would really appreciate some thoughts and critiques on this show!

I like it, but you could use with a bit more spacing and maybe putting in pictures to attract some of the "graphic lovers" as I call them.

I don't really have too many big (or sexy...or even daddy cool) plans for Nash aside from a few "big men" feuds. Of course, any recommendations/suggestions are encouraged. WCW Saturday Night: Saturday, Week 4, January '98 #1: Scott Steiner vs. The Renegade (C) Scott Steiner dominated this match, displaying his new heel attitude: repeatedly mocking and trash-talking the hapless Renegade after hitting him with brutally stiff strikes and slams, along with bending the rules, never making a clean break. Eventually, The Renegade passed out at 3:01 while in Steiner's new finishing hold, the Steiner Recliner. The performance of Scott Steiner stood out as being good. #2: Bischoff interrupts Luger: books him against Scott Hall (B+) Lex Luger is in the middle of the ring with a mic in-hand, claiming that Curt Hennig "acted like a coward" at Souled Out and demands a rematch with him TONIGHT! for the US Title. Instead, Eric Bischoff comes out and says that he beat Hennig: he just wasn't good enough to take the Title from him. Instead, tonight, he'll face Scott Hall! #3: Dean Malenko/Juventud Guerrera/Ultimo Dragon vs. El Dandy/Villano IV/Villano V (C) A standard Lucha Libré match style which seems to have found a niche with American audiences in WCW's growing cruiserweight division was won by the "técnico" team, coming back with two straight wins after a loss in the first fall. Dean Malenko pinned El Dandy at the 7:26 mark. #4: Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Robbie Rage (E+) Yoshihiro Tajiri dominated this match, brutally beating down Robbie Rage with stiff kicks and chops. While the referee was distracted by Tajiri's manager Sonny Onoo, Tajiri sprayed Asian mist in Rage's face and locked in the Tarantula at 1:49 for a submission win. This match brought the crowd's mood down. #5: Kenny Kaos saves Robbie Rage from Yoshihiro Tajiri (E+) Tajiri continues to attack Rage with his martial arts kicks after the bell, until Rage's tag team partner Kenny Kaos runs in and Tajiri slinks off. #6: Jericho self-hype (A) Chris Jericho lazes backstage, continuing his never-ending bragfest of winning the TV Title. #7: Davey Boy & Neidhart vs. Faces of Fear (C) A big, strong, powerhouse match between the four big heavyweights full of hard-hitting and full-contact slams. Meng pins Davey Boy in 6:34 after hitting him with a trashcan lid. #8: Los Guerreros hype video (C+) A tape is played over the TurnerTron, displaying the "Lie, Cheat & Steal" creed of the Los Guerreros. #9: WCW Tag Team Championship: Harlem Heat (c) vs. Public Enemy (C+) A solid brawl, with Booker T providing some high-flying energy inbetween the street-fighting. This also featured numerous instances of the Public Enemy deliberately disobeying the referees and breaking the rules whenever they could get away with it. Near the end of the match, the Nasty Boys ran in and clocked both members of the Public Enemy with chairs, allowing Stevie Ray to pin Rocco Rock in 4:49. The perfomance of Booker T stood out as being good. #10: Sid Vicious vs. Glacier (C-) After some stalling with a staredown and trash-talking, Glacier attempted to lock up only to be completely overpowered by Sid, who hit his powerbomb and pinned Glacier in 0:33. #11: DiBiase hypes nWo (C+) Ted DiBiase is backstage in the nWo locker room and passes by Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash, Randy Savage and Rick Rude, hyping each one up as he does. All five then walk into frame and vow that the nWo is stronger than ever despite recent setbacks. #12: Goldberg vs. Virgil (C-) Another total squash: Virgil never hit a single offensive move and was just a ragdoll for Goldberg to execute several chain throws on. Virgil was pinned at 1:32 after Goldberg hit the Jackhammer. Virgil seemed off his game tonight. Goldberg & Virgil don't seem to click, and it made for an awkward bout. The performance of Goldberg stood out as being good. #13: Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall (B-) Plenty of playing to the crowd in order to get them involved in this one, which was mostly a power showcase with a few flashes of technical wrestling and some brawling dispersed throughout. The two were very evenly matched in all regards, with Scott Hall usually only getting a definite advantage after cheating. After Luger had been knocked out of the ring and into the guardrail, Curt Hennig ran in and attacked him while Hall distracted the referee. Luger was then counted out at 8:58. This match lifted the crowd. Overall Rating: (C+) TV Rating: 23.19 Hope you all like squash...
