Kayfabe relationships

Recommended Posts

I remember seeing someone suggest "background storylines" or whatever you wish to call it. Meaning that currently in '07, once a storyline is over, it's really over with no consequences later on, which obviously isn't the case in real world. This suggestion is really derived from that one. I'd like to see some sort of "kayfabe relationships" screen. Apart from actual storylines, here you could see and alter all relationships and facts that actually cause storylines, affect them and are affected by them. You could have two workers to have a "heated rivalry" relationship, or "close friend", or "lover", to name some examples. These relationships would also be linked to the angles and matches you book. A close friend coming to an aid of his partner in a post-match brawl would boost the segment, as a known, hated enemy doing the same thing would confuse the fans and lower the rating. Also, the relationships themselves could have a momentum which would be altered by the angles - if an enemy helps out his villain, the momentum of their rivalry would obviously take a hit, while a friendship would become yet more solid. Game mechanic-wise, every spot in every angle could have a list of "benefits from" and "is harmed by" relationships, as well as "boosts relationship" and "harms relationship" choises. While I'm at it, this could be implemented to allow deeper storylines as well - instead of just having major and supporting characters, the storyline spots could be defined more accurately and could benefit or suffer from different kayfabe relationships. When two main eventers who are known to hate each other finally engage in a feud for the title, it would be big, and the storyline would obviously get a boost. Of course, it should be noted that the kayfabe relations would be completely different from real life relations, although they could be affected by them - real-life friends would pull off a better kayfabe relationship than guys who despise each other backstage, whether the relationship is a rivalry or a friendship.

I'd love to see kayfabe relationships added to the game. They make up such a big part of the true wrestling experience, after all, and I usually just have to use my imagination to see them in my game. It'd be nice to have something firm, with real ramifications within the game. :)

i remember making this suggestion before TEW 2007 was released giving the example of Kane and Undertaker being brothers in WWE, but adam sadly shot down the idea giving reasons which i cant really remember but were along the lines of if they change character then those relationships will be usless or somthing on those lines. But in TEW 2007 he atted alter ego's and now TEW2008 will have multiple alto ego's so really this idea has some solid ground. this is much needed for on screen head with things suck as brothers fueding (taker and kane). Marrage breakup (hhh and steph) and the latest of b***ard son (hornswoggle) Then tag teams, would Edge and Christian really have been over if WWE didnt portray them as Brothers? or the Dudley boys(family) Glad to see Dansc bringing this back up with more idea's added :D

I could see some practical use for this. Not so much Taker/Kane, which is pretty limited, but a big, nasty blood-feud is the kind of thing nobody forgets. I mean, Hogan and Savage, HHH and Michaels, Foley and the Rock. They all worked as partners, but it's not like anybody forgot the huge feuds between them. The only thing that makes this not work for me is that most of the time, kayfabe relationships are created by either: A) an existing, real relationship, or B) chemistry between the two, as partners or opponents or both. If the AI was smart enough to recognize chemistry, and to recognize their workers would rather work with their friends, we'd never notice this feature didn't exist.

The game "saving" all your storylines and keeping them for future call-backs even well after they've finished is one seemingly simple-enough way to keep this. It might be a strain on the overall memory and data though...
Then tag teams, would Edge and Christian really have been over if WWE didnt portray them as Brothers? or the Dudley boys(family)
Um - yes? The WWE themselves often seemed to forget that Edge and Christian were meant to be related, which probably tells you all you need to know about how "vital" that piece of information was to their success as a team.
