If you can't, try to get as close as possible. Don't go over 21.

MVP
I don't know much about Blackjack, but I met this guy in Las Vegas, brilliant player, brilliant card counter, won a lot of cash before getting caught and banned from most casinos. He's now a tourist guide, so you never know who you might find that has a nack for Blackjack, talk to friends, see if anyone knows how to play (and cheat) correctly. Self
Haven't played in ages, but that was my game. It's very simple. Try to get closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over. As soon as you know the few rules, it doesn't take long to strategise enough for basic luck to occasionally swing your way. 10 is the most likely number you'll get, because 10, Jack, Queen and King all make 10. If you've got 11 or under, you definitely hit. If it's over 11, then it's thinking time. You go with what feels right. Card counting can affect judgement, but if that's too much work for you, just go with your gut, and hope the cards that come up make 21 or slightly lower. I usually double down only on a pair of 9's or Aces. Two 10's stand a good chance of winning, so I usually don't split them.

sirniles2000
Well, one tip I would give you is to be the last person the dealer deals to, or as close as you can to it. That way, you can see what cards others are getting, and have a better idea of how to proceed with your own hand. Also, I would never sit at a table with less than three people(including yourself). When you do that, the deck is stacked too high in the dealer's favor. A very important thing to remember is that in most places, the dealer has to hit unless they have at least 17. Use that to your advantage. For example, if you have 13, most people would think to hit. However, if the dealer has a 2 face up, I would usually stay. The reason is because the dealer will have to hit, and with 10 being the most common number in blackjack to come up, there is a good chance that if you stay, the dealer will end up getting a ten when they hit and go over. The rule I usually follow is that if the dealer has a card showing that is less than 6, I stay no matter what, because they will have to hit and they run a good chance of going over(unless I have like five or something really low). Don't buy insurance. EVER. It is the BIGGEST RIPOFF EVER. Try to find a table with other players who seem to know what they are doing. By playing with others who know how to play, you stand a better chance of winning. Remember, in Blackjack it is everyone vs. the house. Always quit while you are ahead. If you give the house enough time, they will always make their money back. If you start to go on a losing streak, or you win a huge amount of money, WALK AWAY. Those are some of the basics. If you follow those things you should do pretty well. Blackjack is basically the only game I play at a casino, and I have always walked away with more money than I started with. One last thing. Remember to trust yourself. If you have a really strong gut feeling about something, then go with it.
