I Must Be Maaaaad!!!!

Yesterday my little brother ran the London Marathon. I was visiting my parents when he came back and I had been drinking a bit too much. In my drunken state I felt inspired to beat his time of 5 hrs 31 mins. After getting ridiculed and accused of leeting the drink talk I felt I had something to proove. When I got home I went straight to the London Marathon website and registered. Now it is the morning after the night before... and it's sinking in. I can't even run the length of my street! How am I going to run 26 miles? Anyway, I'm going to do it! I'm going to beat this beast! I WILL BEAT MY BROTHER'S TIME!!! Training starts when I get the ok from the doctor... I must be mad!

I think my family would have me checked out to make sure I wasn't going nuts or something if I all the sudden decided to do something like that.

Yeah, that is not the sanest thing I have heard lately. I'm hoping the marathon is a year away because you are going to need a lot of time to train if you can't even run the length of the block. Either that, or you should think long and hard about pulling out. It's better to get a bit of crap from your brother than to die.

Yeah the Marathon is a whole year away. My brother, who used to be an overweight junk food addict, only started training after Christmas, and I've always been fitter than him because I don't drive, I eat healthy (I'm a chef!), I don't use public transport so I walk everywhere... I have a head start over him, so I'm pretty confident. My only weaknesses are I don't exercise enough and beer! Apparently 5 hrs and 31 mins is good for a first time marathon runner. I am proud of my little brother... but I have to kick his ass! I can't let my little brother get the better of me. He's also entered for next year, so it'll be an actual competition rather than beat the clock. I am taking this seriously... I've made an appointment to see the doctor to get some advice, and today I did some light jogging to the Supermarket, which is about 1/2 mile away. I actually feel more determined the more I think about it.

Trust me, if you start training relatively soon, whilst it won't be a walk in the park you can get through. Hard part is going to be around Christmas time when its really tell how motivated you are. You keeping training over the holiday then you should be able to give a good attempt at beating his time. Something to keep in mind is that conditions were quite good for running yesterday. Yeah it was raining but the year before it was 28 degrees which is a joke when you're doing a marathon. Credit to him for getting 5 and a half hours but you can beat that.
