Dischord
Just an idea I wanted to put out there. What if along with the rising/falling of wrestling's popularity that is already in the game there were trends for the business. An example would be that wrestling fans shift from wanting a WWE Style promotion's show to more wrestling focused shows and as a promoter you could either change your style accordingly or take a risk and keep doing it your way with the risk that it could hurt business or the trend could end quickly and your promotion is fine. There is a lot of ways it could work.
crayon
I dunno how TEW currently works out what sortof fans are where, but this idea makes good sense to me. Obviously it'd have to be a very gradual shift or rare swing between trends, though EDIT: Just thought it could be partially tied into the industry as well. As in if the industry is doing well, it's likely that the trend is going to be in favor of the entertainment style, whereas if the industry is falling straight wrestling is going to become a more important commodity (with the casual fans jumping off, leaving the smarks behind). That's a pretty vague idea of it, but it struck me has having some kind of foundation. Also if you had something like this it would be good to have a breakdown in some kind of annual "State Of The Industry".. telling you what's most popular amongst fans right now, what's going out of fashion, and what style is experiencing the most growth (meaning possible future trends - do you get ahead of the curve and change your product now with the risk of no payoff, or do you stick with whatever's most popular, even though it could be out fashion in several months?) With the new promotion rankings, this kind of information could be come vital.. and leave a player torn between grabbing more eyeballs to stay on top, or sticking with the product they enjoy and hoping it delivers.
