So as some of you may know I have a joint WCW WWF diary going which I'm really having a blast writing. Anyway I'm thinking about starting another diary using the CVerse 75 data and the promotion that really intrests me is HWA (Harlem Wrestling Alliance.) The issue is Harlem 75 was known to be pretty Racy and even looking at the roster you get that vibe. So anyway I think it would be a lot of fun to write a diary on this, but I don't want to offend anyone. What's everyones take on this do you think it would be ok to put up a diary thats going to have heavy racism in it or would it be better left alone? Would there even be any intrest in reading this? Thanks

In general, I'd be completely cool with it. Just try to keep the racism to your characters (the workers, their on-screen persona's, the bookers etc.) and not let it seem like these are your views, as the writer of the piece. Hopefully people can tell the difference.

depends on what you mean by racism? if you have men in white sheets as your tag champs and with a finisher called the burning cross, and the rest of your tag division is of ('em lets go with) ethnic persuasion. - that's probably not going over well. (even if the guys in the sheets are of ethnic persuasion them selves) if you mean the veiled tension that pervaded the era, and rampant Black/White/Hispanic/Asian stereo types that pervaded the era, and make up much of the camp sitcom from that era. Heck ya it would be a hoot. so if you have a tag team called ethnic persuasion with a gimmick that everyone steers around referring to them by their race because they get offended no matter what you say they are Black/White/Hispanic/Asian. "Me Mexican? why'd you say that? what about my this (waving hands from head to toe) makes you think i could possibly be a Mexican?) now that would be hysterical!

Somebody did do a HWA Dynasty awhile back. It was quite good, and I don't recall anyone complaining about anything in it. I think it was called 'Harlem Wrestling Alliance: Yes, it's as bad as it seems' or something to that effect. My search is acting screwy so I can't look for it at the moment.

I would go as far to say either it's acceptable (or tolerable) or not..... no grey area..... either go balls out on it.... or decide for what racism means/entails for your promotion (remember that racism is not a "white vs every other race" thing). What I mean is .... either take it as far as verbal spats with matches.... or full on racism (like in the 20's/30's). Also keep in mind that almost all pro wrestling storylines are a reflection on things that happen/happened in society, giving the storyline creator complete creative freedom only censored by their conscience/beliefs/morals. As a wrestling booker/creative writer ... where do your morals lie? How much racism would you allow in your promotion (be it story or real life tension between workers). If you think using racist-type remarks/comments and actions based on it would be acceptable go with that..... if you have no morals.... then anything goes and I hope we never meet (just kiddin!!) Hope that's useful
