What do you do when you start a new game

Recommended Posts

What do you do when you start a new game? Do you instantly start pushing the people you want up the roster? Do you put together the "big feuds" you want to see right away? For me, I always end up booking the first month as if what I would expect from the company. Pushing feuds that seem to be "set" already (ie: Runaway train vs. Jack Bruce, Vengeance vs. Christian Faith) and then slowly begin to do what it is that I want to do. I think especially with the Cornellverse... I never seem to really get the "hang of it" until a couple of months in. Who I actually want to push... who is going to be worth it. Stuff like that. So I thought I'd ask to see what you guys do too. Cheers.

My usual first step is to hire Rex Reeves. Then I sort out the roster, create a storyline for each title (where necessary), and skip forward a few days to see what my owner goals are (usually, they prohibit me from hiring Rex Reeves ¬_¬).

Whenever I start a TCW game, it's always RDJ vs. Tommy until I can sort things out for who I want to bring in or start pushing. Joey Minnesota has been getting a heel turn to balance out the roster a little as well.

The only things I do when I start a new game, in every game, is to set all ticket prices +3 and the merchandising production to "Just in time". And then I check on the roster: If I lack the number of wrestlers I need, I'll search for good roster additions (daa). If not, I just check momentum. That's all. EDIT: and of course check all the owner goals as soon as they are set :)

First off, I play a few weeks randomly booking lousy storlines and average/lame cards, as I hire and fire wrestlers to perfect my roster. Once the roster is ready, I plan for around 6 months of storylines and feuds, and go on more or less following the plans (doesn't help in my current new game where I planned to have Chris Hero carry the main belt for a long time, but had him signed to a better deal by a way bigger company almost right away...)

it depends on the size and product of the company and what I want to do with them. the first thing i always do is lay out my spread sheet so i can see all the information i want without having to click back and forth throught he different TEW screens.
The only things I do when I start a new game, in every game, is to set all ticket prices +3 and the merchandising production to "Just in time".
I do this on every game as well. Here's an example of my first real game with 2008 playing OLLIE After laying out the roster i noticed they were incredibly heel heavy. And checking their guys out it seemed that they weren't going to be pulling good enough shows between their talent and low overness (since they are an overness based promotion) for me to concentrate on the area they already have a C popularity in. My decision was to run a weekly show to run in the two Mexican regions they weren't over in and to run a weekly show alternating between these two regions and then run the big events in my home region. The reason i had to hire a lot more guys is to not risk running the same matches again and again on a small roster. As it's a Mexican promotion i want to have enough Trios so first i look at who they already have: Los Phoenix and The Swarm (renamed El Enjambre, swarm in Spanish I translated all of the names that weren't already in Spanish). Then I see if i can form any others and I but together Laberinto Jr., Luis Montero Jr. and Tricolor Jr. as The Second Sons of lucha (in spansih though but i'm not on my home computer now so i can't remember) and Slayyer and Los Asesinos as Los Tipos Malos (The bad guys). I figure four trios aren't enough so I hire UK Dragon (Dragon Ingleses) and Canadian Dragon (Dragon Canadieses) and team them with Dragon Americano who is already on my roster as Los Dragones. I also hire Hijo Del Mephisto, El Sucio and Evil Spirit (Espiritu Malo) as the Acolytes of the Devil (Can't remember that translation either) Then I look at the tag teams I have since Enjambre I will mostly be fighting with Phoenix I one for the higher ranking titles (As Phoenix gets pushed to the main event with the roster additions and Enjambre I is on the cusp) I make all but Enjambre II & III inactive teams, Then we have Dos Phoenix, Los Asseinos and La Generation Segundo. wanting each trio to have a team within I make Dragon Americano and Dragon Ingleses into Dos Dragons and El Sucio and Espiritu Malo into Fuego y El Azurfe (Fire and Brimstone actually it's literally Fire and Sulfur). Julio Dominguez still needs some molding so I put him with Rafael Ruiz as Youth and Experience and needing more faces I hire Fearless Blue (Bravo Azul) and Daredevil Aero (Tamerario Aero) as Team XDW (Equipo XDW). Since my user character is a better heel then a face i need one more heel to even out the roster so i hire Velocidad. Now i've got my full schedule and my complete roster so I lay out the first big event and then lay out the shows building up to it. in the case of the first big show I only have one weekly show to lay out. So far i'm running good enough shows to jump between .6% and .8% in the regions I'm not over in and I'm running C- big shows in my home region. Since i'm a C in that region I'm losing popularity at about .1 or .2 per show but since I only run one show a month there the drop is not as great as my gains.
I tend to do that though with SWF I interpreted things slightly different. Vengeance's profile said he started feuding with Faith in the Summer and his insane momentum lead me to believe he'd just come out on top at the end of the feud, so the natural progression was him to go on to face Bruce. Train on the other hand is seriously on the decline and with Vengeance excelling in the main event I just don't see a spot there for both of them unless they're feuding with each other, which isn't likely.

Each promotion has a few changes that need to be made, and of course owner goals influence my decision on feuds/storylines. Usually I set my first show for week 3 to give me time to start the shake out and then make decisions on the fly.
I always import my own custom wrestlers, and I always seem to end up pushing them over the current roster.. I've fired at least half of the AAA roster already
Some of the AAA is decent, but I find that most of them just don't interest me. BSC has wrestlers who are far more fun, if they are less skilled.

I usually start with an idea of who's getting pushed and who's going to job. Besides the administrative busywork (the 'just in time' thing and raising ticket prices), I never ever ever go with the status quo. I treat the promotion like a business. If the status quo was doing well, I wouldn't have been hired. Successful companies rarely fire their CEO, after all. But before I take over a promotion, I already have an idea (even if it's vague) on who's going to hold what title and be involved in the top shelf storylines for the first 12-18 months of play. More than anything else, I reshape the promotion into what I believe it should be to lodge a Wolverine boot up the male promotions' asses. :)
