Dana White's Huge Announcement

There is a lot of speculation as to what it will be Thursday. Network TV Deal, Floyd Mayweather, Zuffa being sold, or just something like Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva in Atlanta. He has disspelled the rumors of a TV deal earlier, so that limits the choices. Liddell/Spider doesn't change MMA over the next five years as he said (although Dana likes throwing that out there). That leaves Zuffa being sold and Mayweather. Dana has disspelled Mayweather, but it's still been rumored and Jim Rome even mentioned something about it. The more likely scenario, in my opinion, is that Zuffa has been sold and there are some interesting postings to back me up. Pro fighter Sean McCorkle (I guess) posted on The UG about Zuffa being sold to Dana White with the help of Vince McMahon. McMahon has ties to the NYSAC and will have the UFC in MSG by December. Also, they will take the UFC public eventually. MMAPayout mentions that Zuffa and an unknown party have been working a financial deal through Morgan Stanley as well. And with McMahon having his own press conference scheduled in New York on Thursday... I am talking myself into believing this is true.... and I wish it wasn't. However, if Vince is just a minority owner like said and leaves the actual sport part alone and simply helps advertise and market this could be good. Especially getting the NYSAC to approve MMA. So what are your thoughts and what do you think the announcement is?

This should worry a lot of MMA fans. This isn't Japan where the culture is inclined to treat pro wrestling as a legitimate sport. The first whiff that what goes on in the UFC is scripted or is treated as 'sports entertainment' and it will be the end of MMA in North America.

Dana disspelled everything today on CNBC, which means nothing as he wants to keep anything secret for Thursday... But it should only worry MMA fans if Vince has an active role in the company, which I doubt. From all reports talking about this happening is saying Dana (who already owns 10% of Zuffa) is the majority owner with Vince being minority. Vince is basically a Mark Cuban-esuqe financial backer who has pull with the NYSAC and big venues. If Vince stays out of the sport aspect and focuses on the advertising and marketing of the product it could be great for MMA. Vince would still be concerned with day-to-day operations of the WWE while Dana has Zuffa. It would be more as an investment for McMahon.
