*HYPE* Grunge Graphics Mod

Recommended Posts

I've started a new graphics mod here recently and wanted to see what you guys think. Right now I'm utilizing the Lithos icons for the taskbar, but I'm not totally sure I'm satisfied with the taskbar yet. Here's a screen, let me know what you guys think. Thanks for checking it out! Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm glad you like it! As for a release, I'd say give me at least a week or so seeing as there are 137 screens. But I am currently on a personal leave of absence so I wouldn't be suprised if I get it done much sooner!

May be the best one I've seen so far. It's got some color, isn't too serious but has some edge, easy on the eyes, and from that page it all stands out well. I'd say that this is everything the retail screens should have been. Looks well professional. Only nitpick I would make (and this may be a carry-over from the original layout) is that the list boxes don't have equal padding on both sides, between them and the boarder. For example: the "Finishes" box, the blue highlight goes right up against the boarder on the right hand side, whereas it starts a few pixels out on the left. If possible, it'd look better with the boarder frame extended to create that gap. But that's having to look very hard for flaws. Otherwise great job, and i'll be subscribing to this thread. As an aside, can anyone think of a more obvious icon that could be used for "back to main menu"? I'm continually hitting it, thinking it's the one page back button (since I'm used to back buttons being up the top in web-browsers) :P

Don't know.. atleast it's different. Don't really like the colour, but the background image is nice altough. Those buttons look quite bad with that colour and font if. And the taskbar is just too oily and overly coloured. Just my opinion, sorry. To each of his own etc. :)

Stu, this looks great and I like the effect it has as it kinda reminds me of the gritty look to older movies or like homages to them like the Grindhouse movies were. And I agree about it looking easy on the eyes and the colors looking good. My only suggestion, and I don't know if this is what you were talking about in your original post, was the texturing and depth to the top taskbar. I don't mean to seem nitpicky but I think that might be a problem especially since there is a level of depth to the rest of the page itself like the grids and stuff or whatever you call them. And also the fact that most people are used to most internet taskbars having that level of depth besides when they actually hold the cursor over the buttons. I hope this helps and I'd love to use it when you get it done!

That's if I'm interpreting it right.. kinda reminds me of worn decal graffiti ThriceP86 above me makes a good point too. Even if it was just something subtle that you don't neccessarily notice unless you're looking for it.

I believe the easiest way to sum it up is that the taskbar icons don't neccessarily suggest "this is a thing you should click on." The most simple example would be that when you look at most buttons around the place, they'll have a slight raised effect or something to them, in relation to what they're sitting on. Not to say that you should go nuts beveling and embossing the taskbar like you just discovered the filter. You could do it keeping everything flat; just that the icons should somehow differentiate themselves from looking like a piece of the background (although you already have them standing out with their colors, so it's not that much of an issue). In fact, I think what they may be needing is some sort of common thing that holds them together. Like say (and by god i don't suggest you do this) you lenseflared each icon in the same upper left area; it'd look tacky as hell, but you'd be able to tell that they're all part the same group.. said group being taskbar buttons. I dunno, we're all just really being nitpicky here ain't we :) I'm really content with it as it is hehe

Yeah, crayon knows exactly what I mean especially with that lensflare part. I don't know much about graphics but I can pick up on that. Stu, it's not even if you really need to give it that depth the lensflare would do but maybe if you just put a thick border around them to give them a sharper look. Kind of like how most of the submit, post, and other buttons on these forums look. If that's even a good example or not. That way it'll make it look much more fuller, for the lack of a better word. I'm sure it will look awesome regardless of these comments. And Crayon, there's no way not to sound nitpicky. lol
