ggazoo
Hey guys, first post. :) Having never played the previous versions of TEW, I was wondering if someone can answer some questions for me. 1) Do you have to book finishes, or can the winners of each match be a surprise? Do you have the option? 2) How long does it take to run a card? 3) When looking at the screen shots, it looks like the game is made up of fictional wrestlers. Can you edit the in game wrestlers to real life stars? And, if you can, are any of the fictional wrestlers based off real life guys? For example, Fire Pro Wrestling had fictional characters too, but it was pretty easy to figure out who was who; you just had to rename them. 4) Can you in fact create a wrestler from scratch? How many can you create? 5) Do you have to use one of the pre-made feds, or can you create a new one from scratch? For example, if I wanted to re-launch WCW, could I do it? 6) If you create your own fed, does it have to start small? 7) As the "promoter", can you get fired? One thing that I don't like in sports games is that when you run a Franchise, sometimes you can get "fired"... major bummer. lol 8) Can wrestlers age in this game? For example, could I hire a rookie Ric Flair, run 30 years, and watch him retire? What about career-ending injuries? 9) Where can I download mods from? Do mods for previous versions of the game work in 08? 10) I used to be a big fan of TNM. How does this game compare to TNM 7? Better? Worse? Why or why not? Sorry for all the questions, but I'll be shelling out quite a bit for this game if I get it. Running on my Mac, I'll have to upgrade to Leopard to run Boot Camp, and then get a copy of Windows XP. I just want to be sure that it's worth it.
Rathen4
Hey guys, first post. :) 1) Do you have to book finishes, or can the winners of each match be a surprise? Do you have the option? You can do either - pick a winner or have the game decide 2) How long does it take to run a card? To book a card probably around 3/4 minutes if you're quick. To actually process it is less than a few seconds. Reading the results takes longer than the calculations :) 3) When looking at the screen shots, it looks like the game is made up of fictional wrestlers. Can you edit the in game wrestlers to real life stars? And, if you can, are any of the fictional wrestlers based off real life guys? For example, Fire Pro Wrestling had fictional characters too, but it was pretty easy to figure out who was who; you just had to rename them. The Cornellverse is purely fictional, though there are some characters based on real life figures. You can download real world mods or edit in your own characters easily using the editor. 4) Can you in fact create a wrestler from scratch? How many can you create? Yes, and as many as you like. 5) Do you have to use one of the pre-made feds, or can you create a new one from scratch? For example, if I wanted to re-launch WCW, could I do it? Yes you could - you can make your own. 6) If you create your own fed, does it have to start small? No - if you make one in the editor it can be as big as you like. If you start a new company ingame then you can only have it up to cult size. 7) As the "promoter", can you get fired? One thing that I don't like in sports games is that when you run a Franchise, sometimes you can get "fired"... major bummer. lol If you play a Straight Edge game you can get fired. If you play free style you can't. 8) Can wrestlers age in this game? For example, could I hire a rookie Ric Flair, run 30 years, and watch him retire? What about career-ending injuries? Yes they age and get career ending injuries. They can also get sent to jail, quit the business, or die. 9) Where can I download mods from? Do mods for previous versions of the game work in 08? They're ususally all posted with download links in the mod forum. 10) I used to be a big fan of TNM. How does this game compare to TNM 7? Better? Worse? Why or why not? I have no idea what TNM is.
Try the demo out!
CribbsStyle
I played TNM 7, back in the day. TEW kills TNM, infact I shouldn't even have TNM in the same sentence as TEW.
Self
As you can't play the demo on a Mac... 3) When looking at the screen shots, it looks like the game is made up of fictional wrestlers. For example, Fire Pro Wrestling had fictional characters too, but it was pretty easy to figure out who was who; you just had to rename them. There are plenty of mods out there to emulate real life, but the fictional universe is pretty unique and special in it's own right. 4) Can you in fact create a wrestler from scratch? How many can you create? Yes. Thousands. 5) Do you have to use one of the pre-made feds, or can you create a new one from scratch? For example, if I wanted to re-launch WCW, could I do it? You can start whatever you want from scratch. 6) If you create your own fed, does it have to start small? Not sure. Don't think so. 7) As the "promoter", can you get fired? One thing that I don't like in sports games is that when you run a Franchise, sometimes you can get "fired"... major bummer. lol Yes you can. There is a 'Free Play' mode, but I'm not sure if you can still be fired in that. 8) Can wrestlers age in this game? For example, could I hire a rookie Ric Flair, run 30 years, and watch him retire? What about career-ending injuries? Yes 9) Where can I download mods from? Do mods for previous versions of the game work in 08? bobinc.net is a great site for mods. Previous version mods need to be ran through a converter, but work pretty well.

cyberkitten01
Hey guys, first post. :)
Welcome! :)
Having never played the previous versions of TEW, I was wondering if someone can answer some questions for me. 1) Do you have to book finishes, or can the winners of each match be a surprise? Do you have the option?
You can choose the winner or you can leave up to the Road Agent to pick for you and you won't find out until you run the match. The only downside to that (I used to play TMN too) is that it's hard to build up future stars if you're not sure they're going to win. But for throwaway undercard matches there's problem leaving it to fate
2) How long does it take to run a card?
On average for me booking a 2 and a half hour show takes me around 10 to 15 minutes.
The game comes with the C-Verse, which is made up of fictional wrestlers. It isn't as black and white who the inspirations are like in Fire Pro, and as the C-Verse has evolved over 4 (right?) TEW titles it's come into it's own more and more. Some people love the C-Verse, but it can be hard to get into for new comers. You can indeed play with real wrestlers, these can be found in the Mods section, though it may be a week or two before a few of them are out. There's an in-game editor so as the game is going on you could change wrestler's names, bios and pictures if you so wanted
4) Can you in fact create a wrestler from scratch? How many can you create?
You can create wrestlers from scratch in the Editor, and there's no on how many you make (well there is, but it's something like a few hundred thousand)
5) Do you have to use one of the pre-made feds, or can you create a new one from scratch? For example, if I wanted to re-launch WCW, could I do it?
You can create your own promotions in the Editor too, so you can choose a pre-existing promotion or play your own
6) If you create your own fed, does it have to start small?
It can be as big or as small as you like
7) As the "promoter", can you get fired? One thing that I don't like in sports games is that when you run a Franchise, sometimes you can get "fired"... major bummer. lol
When you start a game you begin as the Head Booker, meaning the Owner is your boss and can fire you if you don't meet your targets or go against his wishes. You can choose to start as the Owner of the promotion, so nobody can fire you
8) Can wrestlers age in this game? For example, could I hire a rookie Ric Flair, run 30 years, and watch him retire? What about career-ending injuries?
Wrestlers do indeed end, and retire. There are also some serious injuries which could end a worker's career, or at least make them retire far earlier. Wrestlers can also die from things such as drug abuse
9) Where can I download mods from? Do mods for previous versions of the game work in 08?
There is a bustling mod community on the forum, with new mods being made all the time. However mods from previous versions don't work with TEW2008. They can be converted, but it's not quite the same
10) I used to be a big fan of TNM. How does this game compare to TNM 7? Better? Worse? Why or why not?
TNM 7 was great, but it was just a match simulator really with some vague booking elements. This game has so many features you would not believe. It's much more deep than TNM and much more rewarding. And hard!
Sorry for all the questions, but I'll be shelling out quite a bit for this game if I get it. Running on my Mac, I'll have to upgrade to Leopard to run Boot Camp, and then get a copy of Windows XP. You can lose your spare time to this for months and months if not longer so it's a great investment in my opinion Hope that was helpful :D Edit: Looks we were all trying to be helpful! ggazoo
Thanks guys! Much appreciated. A couple of other things based on your responses: - How in-depth is the create-a-wrestler? Do you create the move sets too? - How detailed do the cards get? Can you read the matches as the happen (ie hold for hold), and do the results give you how the match ended? What about match ratings? mp84
2) How long does it take to run a card?
I think this can be decieving in a way.. If you know what your doing, and have played previous versions before, then yes it can take anyway from 10-20 minutes. However, if your like me, where I haven't really played TEW, since back when it used to be EWF, then you'll be in for a bit of a learning curve :) .. My first card, I think took almost close to 45 minutes to an hour because I was trying to figure out what to do, and who to push as I was not familiar at all with the Cverse universe. However, as I'm playing more and more, and now have really grasped the ability to make my own storylines and angles, it does get a lot better.. But you gotta have patience as you will get confused here and there. Also the Cverse is not bad, yes there are some similiaries to RL, but I personally like the CVerse better, to me what really brings it to life are the cool pictures for all the characters. And if you want a better understanding of the Cverse, indeed to check the mods, the 1997 Cverse Mod in particular is really good, and from what Adam has told us, he is looking to make that Cannon into his universe, so its not like your playing something completly off base and all.. But if your interested in anykind of the innerworkings of wrestling of what goes on behind the scenes, certainly check it out.. MP

However, the good news, in creating your own Angles, you can put a ton of details into that if you wish, and its sort of cool, seeing the angle unfold on the screen, and then have it get a rating and all. As for the already created angles, there is some details, but its mostly general details, it doesn't go into to much explanation. MP
cyberkitten01
- How in-depth is the create-a-wrestler? Do you create the move sets too?
Create a Wrestler is very detailed, even down to the individuals personality, drug habits/problems with law/smoking etc, skills, popularity, relationships, potential. You don't create the individual moves a person does, but they do have move lists of finishers, such as secondary finishers and uber finishers like the Burning Hammer which are used say 4 times in a worker's career. The moves can be specified to cause blood, be done onto chair or through tables etc
- How detailed do the cards get? Can you read the matches as the happen (ie hold for hold), and do the results give you how the match ended? What about match ratings?
In the first TEW game the matches had lenghthy play-by-play, but after a few matches it all gets a bit samey and so it was replaced by road agent notes. It will tell you who won and with what finisher, and anything else notable about the match such as X interfered in the match, or that the two workers had good or bad chemistry, or the crowd's mood was lifted by the match or they thought it was too long for the workers involved and many many more Hope that's answered your questions :)
Kainlock
I would say comparing this to TNM is about what you prefer. I think TNM is more about telling a story. TEW is a game where you have to balance alot of features to make a succesful game. Having played both I would give the edge to TEW as it is more up to date and newer. I did enjoy TNM but I find that this makes it easier to build a federation and I don't have to be as creative or detailed to make a great federation, since the features help build its own story and I don't have to type so much to get across what I want to.
