Undertaker666
I'm currently using Windows XP: Professional Edition and i'm looking to buy a new quad core machine. Will all four processors be utilised if i'm running Windows XP or am I going to need to get the memory hungry beast known as Vista? (i'd rather not) And what's all this "32 bit" and "64 bit" malarky about? Why are there 2,483 different versions of Windows out these days?!
Blasphemywebleed
Windows XP 32 bit will utilise all 4 cores of the processor. However it wont recognise the 8gb of RAM you plan on having. 32 bit OS will recognise a maximum of 3gb ram due to it only recognising 232 bit addresses. Most system manufacturers cap their systems at a maximum of 8GB RAM but if uncapped then a Windows XP 64-bit operating system would be capable of recognising 128GB of RAM. infinitywpi
Probably not, but I'm not sure. As for 32-bit or 64-bit, I believe the only difference is 32bit only supports up to 2 gig of ram. Anything more than that, you need 64bit. I believe it's also dependant on what kind of CPU you have. But then, my hardware-techie days are behind me now...
