crayon
As part of my anime/manga Otaku-verse (working title) mod I've just begun work on a promotion consisting of the OS-tan universe (basically we're talking about personifications of computer Operating Systems) However, I'm really only familiar with a few OS's in real life, and many of the OS-tan's don't have a lot of information on them, so I was hoping I could get some input on different OS's unique features, and quirks (at least in relation to their time), be they good or bad, in order for me to create their movesets and personalities. OS's I'm needing input on atm is: Apple: Mac OS9 OSX Jaguar, OSX Panther, OSX Tiger, OSX Cheetah, OSX Leopard, and OSX Puma and then Mac's just in general relation to Windows Linux: Redhat Fedora Mandriva Ubuntu SuSE Gentoo Knoppix Slackware ArchLinux Linspire and then Linux just in general relation to Windows MS: WinXP Home Edition Win98 Win98 SE Win95 I realize it's a big list, but all the slightest information will help. And in this case, biased opinions and fanboyism is most welcome :P

crayon
Ah, if my request is a little confusimg.. what I mean is like Windows XP is/was known to look really nice but be pretty useless by contrast, and ate a huge amount of RAM at the time. As such I've reflected that in her stats and personality and given her the "RAM Obliteration" and "Rice Bowl to the Head" as finishers. example of what I'm doing:
bobinc
Why do you need back info on OS's, its a OS you are just making it up as you go along anyway because I am sure any OS doesn't have Brawling or Athleticism.
crayon
That's true, but with any kind of personification it is nice to be able use various unique factors of it which you can identify. For some already established examples, MacOS-tan uses the bomb from the Mac error dialog to throw at people, Vista's aero abilities are represented by having a lot of see through clothing, windows 2000 is seen as ME-tan's intelligent and stable sister. Makes it way easier in creating fitting finishers, personalities, that bios that stand out from each other. And does lend quite well to certain stat setting (sex appeal, flashiness, menace, the technical skills, safety, etc... you'd be surprised) I think I'm going to manage with the Mac OS's for now.. but am still very clueless on the Linux variations. Still, I am a little surprised that I've posted on an internet forum and not been able to get one personal opinion on an operating system so far. But hey, anything can happen round here I guess :P

Only a matter of time before ペットロック gets a show. :p
shipshirt
To each his own, but wow... I just Googled it and it looks like there are OS-Tan forums...you'd probably be better off checking those.
foxesman
Erm... Why... How... What...? No, I just don't know what question to ask first. Am I insane? I love the way some people think...
Michael Wayne
this is interesting. I might actually play this if crayon were to release such a mod.
crayon
this is interesting. I might actually play this if crayon were to release such a mod.
Thanks for the added motivation :) This promotion of OS-Tan's was originally added just for a laugh and meant to be a small local operation.. but as I started researching it and found out that the "anime" personifications spills out over Windows to Apple to Linux and even to consoles(!) I've actually gotten really excited about it and could see it being a fun roster to work with. When you think of all the fanboy'ism that is present with Microsoft vs Apple vs Linux or Microsoft vs Sony vs Nintendo, it's almost too perfect for a diary :D
shamelessposer
I'm amazed that so many people aren't familiar with this concept. It's at least old enough for there to be a 98-tan.
crayon
The characters go far enough back to a MS-Dos and 3.1-tan even, but if I'm correct I believe that the whole thing started with the release of Windows ME and users of Futaba-chan likening the system to that of a cute clumsy girl who can't do anything right. And it spawned from there. I just found a couple of alcohol-tans. Awesomeness.

Sagitta
I wonder where Amiga-tan would fall in this list. :D
crayon
Just made a couple logos and a banner for the promotion. (like the banner.. logo.. eh, it'll do for now anyway) But I'm just wondering where you stick the banners though. And where they'll eventually show-up in game too. Any volunteers of information?
I wonder where Amiga-tan would fall in this list. :D
There actually is an Amiga-tan "Miggy".. but I can't find any decent pictures of her, sadly :/
shamelessposer
Banners will at the very least show up on the booking screen.
