Recommended Posts

Week 4, October Crowd: 1,300 Chord's Corner: Rip interviews Robert Oxford, who immediately thanks Mr. Chord for showing him the way, by demonstrating to him that it takes a certain ruthlessness, and not just skill, to get ahead. Oxford then made it clear that he was his own man, and not the fifth wrestler to join Camp Chord, but he does consider Rip a class act, and a very close friend. B Marc Speed & Darryl "The Dog" Freeman defeated Cowboys & Indians at 6:39 when Speed pinned Ace Youngblood after a snap spinning neckbreaker. C- Chance Fortune is next to lambaste The Insane Heat for blowing his chance at the Empire title last week by getting himself disqualified. Chance would see to it he wouldn't get that chance again. C The Insane Heat defeated Chance Fortune at 10:21 via pinfall after the Heatseeker. C Nevada Nuclear promo: We adored Sam Keith, but now we must infect him. If we infect the great Sam Keith, everyone will love us. Yes, it's a radioactive Gollum gimmick, only in professional wrestling. B Rip Chord promo: Joanne Rodriguez was fun for a while as a sideshow attraction, but the circus is about to leave town, because Steve Flash wouldn't lose to a woman, not even on his worst day. B Sam Keith made Nevada Nuclear submit to the Proton Lock at 13:55 B Joanne Rodriguez notes that Barry Kingman was responsible for her losing the Tri-State Title in the first place, and she has assurance from Alex Braun that if Kingman sticks his nose in her business tonight, there'd be consequences. B- NYCW Tri-State Title: Steve Flash defeated Joanne Rodriguez at 10:47 with the Flash of Brilliance to retain the Tri-State Title. B- Grudge Match: Robert Oxford defeated Art Reed by countout, when he rammed Reed headfirst into the ringside stairs. B- Alex Braun promo. The gist: Barry Kingman is a weak, woman hating punk who needs to be put in his place, and I'm just the man to do it. B NYCW Empire Title: Alex Braun defeated Barry Kingman at 10:57 via pinfall after Braun Damage. B Closing Ceremonies: J-Ro shoots some shirts, Rip Chord is Better Than You: At painting, as he works over a modern art masterpiece. Double A* Overall: B Next Week: There's a HUGE show to start off November, as Mean Jean Cattley faces Sam Keith in a grudge match, while Steve Flash tries to become a double champion, as well as the first 2-time Empire Champion as he faces Alex Braun. Scout also faces Donnie J. Also appearing: Camp Chord's Perez & Champagne defend the tag titles, Sam Keith, The Insane Heat, Jimmy Cox, & more!

Always enjoyed reading the diaries, but never bothered to join the forums after I found out I wouldn't be able to run this game on my mac *sigh*, but I had to join today to comment on how much I enjoy this fine piece of writing, and two Reel Big Fish references in a row to boot. You are the man BriFidelity!

Week 4, November Crowd: 2000 (Another sellout, meaning every show in November sold out, meaning we made $120K in ticket sales this month) Joanne Rodriguez starts to show by explaining that her career so far in NYCW has been great, aside from one black spot: Barry Kingman. She explains that Barry's not here tonight, so she'll be able to do what she does best: wrestle (what? thought it was something else?) B Joanne Rodriguez pinned Jimmy Cox at 9:23 with the J-Rocker C+ Camp Chord promo -- even though they're in singles competition, they talk together. B+ Alex Braun promo The gist: Scout's days on the top of the heap are over, the Alex Braun era cements itself tonight. A NYCW Empire Title: Scout and Alex Braun fought to a wild Double DQ at 9:49, and continued to brawl afterward, fighting all the way to the locker room. Two years to the day. That was when The Stomper finally relented, and I started to realize my dream. And things have changed. Hell, the only person left from the NYCW Roster that existed when I started is Steve Flash. And that first show, when 253 people showed up and we lost thousands of dollars... it seems like another world. 6 people worked that show: Joey Poison, Champagne Lover, and Steve Flash are still here. Joey Minnesota bolted and is enjoying life in the big leagues in the SWF Midcard, American Buffalo wrestled about two matches for me and is working DAVE right now. Hell Monkey, he didn't mesh with the old crop of NYCW Faces and was too expensive for the time, but had a very good run with DAVE, and is an international superstar, demanding top dollar. I came in with a plan, I implemented it, and it's been successful, to where crowds have increased tenfold, we're making thousands of dollars, sometimes tens of thousands a show. Our highest paid talent, Sam Keith, probably makes more than those original six combined. I walked into the offices of NYCW, which moved to a slightly nicer neighborhood and got an upgrade after our successes, and the small office staff was waiting with a "surprise!" Backed up, of course, with balloons and a cake. The Stomper was there, but he wasn't really the sentimental type -- this was definitely arranged by one of the people in the office. Stomper acknowledged me with a nod, and I knew I had something from him more important than any cake, any surprise party: his respect. After the cake, the back patting, everything like that, I retreated to my office, where there was another surprise visitor. "If it isn't the King of New York." I said, surprised. Joey Minnesota, SWF superstar, got out of his seat and shook my hand. "You're not here because you got released, are you?" I said half joking, half optimistic. "Now you, of all people, know that I just signed a big, fat contract extension." Joey joked. I nodded. "Couldn't take a slight pay cut and come home, could ya?" "You know I love this place." Joey said with a smile. "But this is a dream come true man. I'm getting to work with people I've looked up to." I patted him on the shoulder. "No explination necessary Joe," I assured him, "We're both doing great, let's celebrate that." "Any time," Joey said. "I just thought I'd stop by to congratulate you on a job well done." With that, Joey left. The life of an SWF superstar is a busy one. "You know," I called to Joey while he was leaving, "I wanted to kill you when you left." "Yeah," Joey stated, looking back. "I know." He laughed as he passed Stomper, who was coming in. "What in the hell is Minnesota doing here?" "Negotiating my defection to SWF. Keith's stepping down from the booking team, and Mr. Eisen has hand-picked me to take his spot." "Bastard!" Stomper exclaimed. "I knew it was a bad idea to bring that rat Keith in here..." "Relax man! I was just ribbing you!" I explained. Two years ago, I was stalking the guy, now I was cracking wise with him. "Damn man, I'm too old for that stuff," my superior, pushing 60, explained. "Now that we've had our fun, let's talk business." Stomper proceeded to remind me of the goals he set some time ago: We had to make money under my run while becoming more popular, we easily did both. He then offered me a raise, which was nice for me -- a guy who wasn't getting paid at the start. Though, to his credit, I offered to work for free and Stomper began slipping me money when we became profitable, now it was just official.. We hammered out a deal, with Stomper laying down some goals: We had to keep growing in the Tri-State area, and we couldn't sink into debt while doing it. With over 100 grand in the coiffers, I took the lack of a "don't lose money" directive as a license to spend, and made a note to start courting high priced free agents. Still, the lineup for the next show was set. Week 1, Dec Crowd: 2,000 Dominion's talk show, aptly titled "Dominion's talk show" featured Jesse Hernandez, who spent the whole segment dancing while Dominion speculated about the prospects of Jesse upsetting Mean Jean Cattley. C Nevada Nuclear promo: We have three opponents to infect tonight, what a special occasion! C Unstable (Nevada Nuclear/The Insane Heat) & Jimmy Cox defeated Tennessee Bennett, Ace Youngblood, & Rick Sanders at 8:48 when Nevada pinned Youngblood with the Mushroom Cloud. C NYCW Tri-State Title: Steve Flash defeated Chance Fortune at 8:37 with the Flash of Brilliance. Steve Flash retained the NYCW Tri-State Title. B+ Mean Jean Cattley defeated Jesse Hernandez at 12:34 with the Mean Streak C Sam Keith dispenses some sage wisdom. There's not a man on this Earth who isn't beatable, and the ones who think they are unbeatable set themselves for a fall. Scout experienced that against Alex Braun, and will experience it again tonight. A Art Reed defeated Barry Kingman at 10:38 with the Dread Lock. B A video, displaying all the past encounters of Scout and Sam Keith played. Good production piece. A Scout promo The gist: He may lose a match on a rare occasion, but he'll never be defeated, because he'll never quit, never relent. A Sam Keith defeated Scout at 21:51 after Alex Braun interfered. Scout tried to retaliate, but was escorted from the premises. A Alex Braun took the mic, saying it was about time that someone gave Scout the same treatment he gave other people. Robert Oxford would be next to get a taste of his own medicine, Braun promised. B NYCW Empire Title: Alex Braun defeated Robert Oxford at 10:14 via a pinfall after Braun Damage. Three new champs in SWF, as Groucho Bling beat Human Arsenal for the Shooting Star Title, Enforcer Roberts beat Sam Keith for the North American Title. In the main event scene, Remo has made it 4 World Titles after defeating Henry Lee. Sammy Bach has wrested control of the TCW International Title from 3-time champ Randall Hopkirk. Rip Chord, who came to us on a downswing just after MAW closed, and agreed to work for a pittance, was now dealing from a position of power. He wanted a big raise, and really deserved one. I decided to use some of our newfound spending power to give Chord what he wanted. Week 2, December Crowd: 3,164 (Bigger building, since we could make up the $7,000 difference in renting a 5,000 seat venue instead of a 2,000 seater by selling just 280 extra tickets. we wound up selling far more. The change in venue made us an extra $22,100) Dominion's Talk Show: Donnie J. and Dominion talk Surfing, Babes, and beating Mean Jean Cattley. C+ Rip Chord cuts down Marc Speed on behalf of his boys, the greatest tag team in the world today. Chord + A live mic = goodness. A NYCW Tag Team Titles: Camp Chord defeated Darryl "The Dog" Freeman & Marc Speed at 6:34 when Freeman submitted to the Champagne Breakfast. Champagne and Perez introduced a cool little spot, where they communicate in Spanish, using their bilingual powers to gain an advantage over their English speaking rivals. C Mean Jean Cattley promo The Gist: How many undercard guys do I have to squash to get in the main event again? C+ Mean Jean Cattley defeated Donnie J. at 13:36 with the Mood Swing B- Art Reed defeated Barry Kingman at 12:23, after interference from Joanne Rodriguez. B+ Impromptu Grudge Match: Robert Oxford & Barry Kingman battled Art Reed & Joanne Rodriguez to a DDQ at 5:27 B Alex Braun promo. Tonight isn't about that bully Scout, who was given the week off, tonight is about wrestling, and going out and putting out the best effort he can against Jimmy Cox. Week 3, December Crowd: 3,195 Camp Chord promo The Gist: Throw anyone at us, we'll beat them, and look fabulous doing it. C NYCW Tag Team Titles: Camp Chord (Perez & Lover) defeated Jesse Hernandez & Joey Poison when Perez made Hernandez submit to the P-Clutch at 7:35 C- Joanne Rodriguez beat Darryl "The Dog" Freeman at 7:53 with the J-Rocker. C+ After the match, Joanne Rodriguez made a very interesting challenge. She explained that she grew up learning of the rich traditions of Mexican wrestling from her Grandfather. It was time to test Barry Kingman's honor, to settle their differences the traditional way: in a hair vs hair match. B Rip Chord is psyching up Steve Flash. Tennesee Bennett is everything that's wrong with wrestling: a grown man who is trying to get attention by running around dressed up like a cowboy. Key quote: "This isn't Halloween, so put the guy in the costume out of his misery." B+ NYCW Tri-State Title: Steve Flash defeated Tennesee Bennett at 14:08 with the Flash of Brilliance. B Scout defeated Robert Oxford and Rick Sanders in a triangle match at 12:54 with Danger Ahead B Alex Braun & Chance Fortune defeated Unstable at 11:47 when Braun pinned Nevada Nuclear after hitting Braun Damage. C+ Alex Braun accepts Scout's challenge. He beat him once, he'll beat him again, next week. B+ Mean Jean Cattley promo The Gist: Sam Keith is a legend, but legends have to fade away sometime. Tonight is Sam Keith's turn to fade away. B+ Sam Keith defeated Mean Jean Cattley at 21:48 via submission to the Proton Lock in an amazing match. The crowd was insane for this one, and exploded when it ended. Week 4, December Crowd: 3,172 Terry Agony and Dominion got into a verbal jousting match, but didn't come to blows, because Agony is great at everything but technical wrestling, Dominion's good at that, but nothing else. Both are insanely charismatic, though. C Chance Fortune pinned Frankie Perez at 10:08 with the Stroke of Luck C Geri Smith came out, announced as the new commissioner of NYCW, which, she said, had nothing to do with being the Stomper's stepdaughter. She forced Joanne Rodriguez to sign a document ensuring that she would not back out of the post-match stipulation stating that she'd have her head shaved bald tonight in the middle of the ring if she lost to Barry Kingman. Thursdays in the Bronx: Special Friday Edition (stupid SWF and their Thursday PPV's) Week 2, January Crowd: 3,168 Nevada Nuclear promo. The Gist: A win tonight puts Unstable in the hunt for the tag titles. (remember when Insane Heat was pretty much a main eventer for about two weeks?) C- Unstable defeated Dickie Gellar and Jesse Hernandez at 7:33 when Heat pinned Hernandez with the Heatseeker. C- Rip Chord with more hype for Steve Flash. He wants Steve to show that "whacked out feminist" Joanne Rodriguez that professional wrestling is a man's world. B Joey Poison & Donnie J. defeated Camp Chord (Frankie Perez & Champagne Lover) at 7:39 when Donnie pinned Champagne after Death on Miami Beach. C+ NYCW Tri-State Title: Steve Flash defeated Joanne Rodriguez at 10:46 via pinfall after the Flash of Brilliance. B The lights dimmed, and when they came back on... Eric Tyler was standing in the ring. Tyler said that NYCW was supposed to stand for tradition, but the idiots in the crowd and the locker room had no idea what the word meant. He'd show them, starting tonight. A Eric Tyler pinned Rick Sanders at 11:40 via pinfall after hittng the Tyler Driver '06 B Alex Braun was next on the mic. The Gist: Scout was the better man, now it's time to pick up the pieces. B Alex Braun pinnedd Robert Oxford at 11:48 with Braun Damage B Scout promo. The Gist: Mean Jean Cattley's a solid wrestler, but there can only be one champion, one top dog, and it's Scout. A NYCW Empire Title: Scout beat Mean Jean Cattley at 21:22 via DQ when Rip Chord was caught interfering. Cattley and Chord had words after the match, culminating in Chord leaving the ring. Cattley took the house mic to address Chord. "Some of you know it, some of you don't, but I owe a big debt to that man, to Rip Chord. He took me under his wing, gave me a break in the old Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, and then brought me to NYCW when MAW closed down. Rip Chord still guides my career to this day, which makes this all the more painful to have to do." With that, the rest of Camp Chord -- Flash, Champagne Lover, and Frankie Perez, led an ambush on Chord, while Cattley screamed that Rip had taken them as far as he could, but he'd outlived his usefulness. Now, he'd be put down like an old dog. B+ (Match) B+ (Argument) B- (Ambush) J-Ro tried to lift the mood by shooting some shirts to the crowd, just to send them home with something upbeat. A* OVR: B DAVE has resorted to using lots of ex-NYCW wrestlers -- from the likes of Whistler, Travis Century, and American Buffalo, to the here today gone tomorrow, "Super" Mario Heroic. They also sport some strange tag teams -- X-Rated (JD Morgan/Puerto Rican Power) Subbacultcha (Warlord Pain & Chance) Express Delivery (American Buffalo/Teddy Powell) and the reigning DAVE Tag Champs: Blackout (Haruki Kudo & Demon Anger). Pecs scored a semi-upset, dethroning former World Champ Enforcer Roberts for the SWF North American Title. Next time: The first NYCW show without Rip Chord in a long time sees Eric Tyler takes on Sam Keith in a match that would be big enough to headline an SWF PPV (A* in the advance booking) Scout defends the Empire title against former nemesis Art Reed. Oh yeah, and Robert Oxford clashes with one of the biggest superstars, not to mention best workers, in the entire world. A household name on both sides of the Pacific. A man who has been ranked amongst the top ten wrestlers in the world over the past two years, cracking the top five this year. A man who was only available because, for some reason, head bookers only seem to get PPA contracts. I wasn't going to exploit that again, but if DAVE can sign him, so can I. NYCW fans, get ready for Haruki Kudo.

Week 1, Feb Crowd: 3,051 Rip Chord came out to start the show. He admitted he no longer had it in him to assemble a team and lead them into the ring against the likes of Cattley, Flash, or The Latin Kings, but he loved the wrestling business, and -- even if he never showed it much -- loved the wrestling fans too much to stay away, so he was going to step back from the ring and call the matches as best he could. A NYCW Tag Team Titles: The Latin Kings defeated Cowboys & Indians at 10:33, when Frankie Perez pinned Ace Youngblood after Champagne Lover hit Ace with a Champagne Bottle when the ref wasn't looking. C+ Sam Keith defeated Terry Agony at 7:34 via submission to the Proton Lock. Agony was gassed by the end... at 7 1/2 minutes?!?! Work on your cardio Terry! B- Mean Jean Cattley bragged that he sent Rip Chord to the broadcast booth... permanently. He warned that he'd continue to be as mean as he can, meaner than ever, until he got his Empire Title shot. B Robert Oxford defeated Donnie J by submission at 11:46 with the Oxlock B- Eric Tyler complained about having to wrestle a woman, a task which would make the founding fathers of this great sport spin in their collective graves. B+ Eric Tyler pinned Joanne Rodriguez at 10:48 with the Tyler Driver '06 A Alex Braun warned Jean Cattley: "Be as mean as you can, you're gonna have to brother." B+ Mean Jean Cattley defeated Alex Braun at 11:24 with the old "foot on the ropes" Memphis Cradle. B+ Scout promo The Gist: He's defended this title against men from all promotions, all continents. He's taken on all comers, and Haruki Kudo's impressive credentials don't scare him. This is just another night at the office. B+ NYCW Empire Title: Haruki Kudo defeated Scout via pinfall with the Kudo Kutter at 20:38. Haruki Kudo won the NYCW Empire Title. After the match, Kudo and Scout shook hands A (Match) B+ (Handshake) Closing Ceremonies: J-Ro Shoots Shirts, Rip Chord Is Better Than You (albeit in a nice way, now that he's a face): at Baccarat. After all, the man is suave and sophisticated, at least as cool as James Bond and Bond loves Baccarat. (RCIBTY Credit: MightyDavidson) Double A* Overall: B+ and probably a good B+ at that. Next week: We try to keep the run of good shows going, but we're faced with a dilemma: We either run Thursday, the same night as the SWF PPV, and lose Keith & Tyler, or we run Friday, same day as BHOTWG's TV, and we lose Kudo. Sorry champ, it's a special return of Fridays in the Bronx! Our main event is a HYOOGE triangle match for the right to face Empire Champion Haruki Kudo involving Eric Tyler, Sam Keith, and Mean Jean Cattley.

Week 2, Feb Crowd: 3,068 There was a piece of breaking news delivered to the crowd via fliers on their chairs: Geri Smith has been removed of her duties as NYCW Commissioner, with a replacement to be named soon. Thursdays in the Bronx Week 3, Feb Crowd: 3,355 Terry Agony came out for another one of his rambling challenges... to no one in particular. Yep, pretty generic. Delivered well, though. B+ Mean Jean Cattley pinned Joey Poison at 7:35 with the Mean Streak B+ MJC took the mic and called out the new commissioner, whoever it is, to demand a title shot. Rip Chord left the broadcast booth, entered the ring, and revealed that HE was the new commissioner of NYCW. Chord boasted that he would have no problem giving Cattley a title shot, but he would have to earn one, and he had to start earning one next week against Art Reed. B+ Robert Oxford made Joanne Rodriguez submit to the OxLock at 7:06, cheating heavily to secure the show. B Scout promo, where he noted that we all have seen this before: Scout loses the title, the fans rally around the new king, who is promptly dethroned by Scout. The process was beginning again, Scout warned. A Sam Keith defeated Scout & Donnie J in a triangle match at 21:47 when he made Donnie J submit to the Proton Lock. Joanne is charismatic and incredibly beautiful, plus she speaks three languages, which is a nice skill for someone in your locker room to have. Just had the best match of her career in defeat against Eric Tyler. She's one of the premier female wrestlers in the world, and for good reason. Her mix of looks, charisma, and wrestling talent combine to make her an incredible asset to any company. Week 4, Feb.
